  1. Callahan would still be here if he had someone to run a defense for him.
  2. I don't know if either of us has "ever changing stipulations," but perhaps it seems that way when people respond to your strawperson arguments and rambling. JJ is spot on, you..................not so much
  3. Not liking the hire is not what annoys most of us, it is not being willing to acknowledge the building pile of evidence that a lot of things happening in the program are better under Riley, from program positivity, to coaching, to gung-ho recruiting. These things can not be denied and if a fan truly wants Nebraska to be better, he has to be willing to acknowledge that this is happening. There are some here and elsewhere that do not want these thing to occur, because it makes the firing of 408 look like a better idea every day that passes.
  4. Without the playoffs, the SEC wins 8 in a row. Ohio St. never makes it in the old BCS. How many of those 7 in a row go to someone else if we have a playoff 8 years ago???
  5. To put it simply; What we had was failing and what we have is promising. I am looking forward with some positivity again instead of living week to week with dread of what will happen on the football field.
  6. Life's not fair. And "getting called on the carpet" on an internet forum is not exactly bothersome. So, to use a quote you like....."boo hoo". Don't care that Pelini's not here. His direct deposit has him all smiles, I'm sure......and Husker nation is footing every dime. Oh, and Ohio State and Michigan would laugh Riley's resume to the round file. And no, I don't care that he was wanted by USC or Alabama over a decade ago. Good day. You've done a pretty good job pretending to be objective, advocating for balance, and pointing out some hypocrisies, but you totally jumped the shark here, TheSker. Turns out you've had a petty little agenda after all. Not that we didn't know it all along. So please stop pretending that you're rooting for Nebraska. You are positively giddy at the prospect of Mike Riley's team losing. I'm not the first Husker fan not happy with who the coach is the past 15 years.......but you're free to slant that however you wish. It's the internet. I did not, and do not, like the Riley hire. Somebody needs a hug because he doesn't have a team he can root for...
  7. Simmer down, now. Even with McNeese State, some of us optimists saw all of the above last season, leading up to Michigan State in Game 6. I'm high on Mike Riley, but in fairness to the advice I've given his critics, maybe we should all wait a season or three before declaring anything with bold assurance. I am ok with waiting, but when there is stark evidence it is hard to ignore. In fairness, the optimists ignored 6 years of evidence that it was not going to get better under 408, some still don't see it after an NCAA record of 408 yards was set against NEBRASKA, not Southern Alabama or FAU or any other school that has fielded a pathetic football team in the last 130 years. I think your bias is so strong against anything Bo Pelini, that you assume anything different is better. You are almost correct here, Harbaugh would have barely been an upgrade. but you are correct in thinking that I believe that 408 is a mouth breathing moron and I would boo him off the field should he ever return.

I think your bias is so strong against anything Bo Pelini, that you assume anything different is better. We were favored in game 1, and by a combination of execution and coaching, we lost the game. In game 2, we played a much weaker opponent, and won handily. There were things in each game we did well, and some we struggled with. Some of your points may be true, some may not, and some can not in any way be objectively measured at this point in time. I suggest a wait and see approach before crowning anyone. Well I say the heck with the saunders approach. There is nothing wrong with being biased against Pelini (he earned every bit of it) so, keep up the good work, I will. The moments of hope and optimism over the last 15 years in this program have been few and far between. I say we enjoy this for now and celebrate it, even if some of it might be premature. We'll have plenty of time to turn on MR if things don't work out. It's almost like some people don't want us to be happy with our coach. +1000
  9. I could see this if we weren't running the same coverage against BYU. Unless we were fine losing a game as long as we didn't tip our hand to future opponents. So you don't think this staff is capable of holding back schemes for later in the season for specific opponents? McBride did it all the time, worked on schemes all fall and broke them out when needed. These guys have been around the block at least twice, they know better than to show all their cards at once. Langsdorf said said all fall that he was going to run the fullback and throw to the tightend, yet it really has not happened much yet. I would not be surprised if he did not break out the fullback trap for Miami. So it's more important to hold some things back for later than it is to win games? Jesus Mav, come on man. You wouldn't be bitching if we had batted down the Hail Mary. Do you actually believe there was a scheme we could have used on the hail mary that we held back and risked losing? That's insane. Have I brought up the Hail Mary play anywhere? Are any of the plays we've been going through in great detail the Hail Mary? I'm talking about the 337 passing yards we gave up BEFORE the Hail Mary. That if we would have played some better defense for the previous 59:59 the Hail Mary could have been inconsequential. So yes, I would have the same complains had we batted down the Hail Mary (other than then it would have just been bad defense, not bad defense that cost us the game). I would counter, that if we had used better clock management, we win and they never have a chance for the last drive. Or if we convert a third down, we win, we had them beat with the amount of playbook we used, no need to go deeper. The gameplan was sound, the execution was not.

No coach wants to lose games and you use your playbook accordingly. The BYU game was not lost until the clock read :00 kind of hard to use any of your playbook after that. As I said earlier, Tom and Charlie always held back a portion of the playbook for later in the season, I believe Riley and Banker are doing the same. I happen to think it is the smart thing to do. If you think they should put everything out on film during the first game, fine, I would think that to seem foolish to most common sense thinking people.
  12. Alex Lewis "Coach Riley brings a sense of knowledge to the field that we have not had before" A player can not make a bigger statement than that about the change from the last years to this year.

  15. I almost forgot. and one of the biggest ones. No more complaining about how hard recruiting is..
  16. Its time to put a stake through the Bolievers! Qb play is much improved Tackling is much improved Receiving is much improved O-line play is much improved Linebacker play is much improved Playcalling is much improved Run defense is much improved Half time adjustments, ah yes, half time adjustments again! Team moral and chemistry is much improved We have professionals that are teachers and not just yellers. All this and we have yet to field a team at full strength. If Riley could win a Conference Championship in his first year, hell any year, that would throw the final shovel of dirt on them. They should build a statue of Eichorst for fixing one of Tom's biggest mistakes. Thank you Shawn Eichorst, for making decisions to help make Husker football GREAT again.
  17. NCAA Power Rankings Nebraska - #36 Miami - #52
  18. He wanted to give him more time by rushing only 1, but he forgot to tell the team in the huddle. DUH!
  19. The stupid stick has been unleashed in this thread...... The Pelini lovers and the Riley haters must have been beaten nearly to death with it.. Too bad it was nearly. Just sayin.
  20. All in all, that premise is true, how many times in the last 50 years has a coach not won 9 games, maybe 2??? I believe it to be as true a fact as the stats bear out. I have no doubt that 9 wins will come about again this year. So if someone says that even a blind monkey can do it, you, nor anyone else can prove them wrong.
  21. I think your mommie needs to put your binkie back in your mouth and you should go nighty nite, this is big boy football talk. I' not pissed at ya'll even though some of you are pissed at me for stating the obvious. When you say you are coaching by committee it ususally means who ever in charge does not have a clue. And Radar if this is "big boy football talk" why do you have your panties all in a bunch over what I posted. Sounds like radar is the one that' pissed and this is just the first game. I am not happy with the loss but all in all there are some things to like about this team. You come in a say you googled Riley and it came up idiot, just reminds me of someone still in diapers that has no clue about bigboy football. My opinion of you stands.

  23. And he lost many games he should have won, some by nearly 70 points, so do you have a point you want to make because you haven't made one yet. Riley lost one game against a quality opponent because there was 1 second left on the clock, I remember 408 doing the same, so I guess that makes them even.......right.......................................... Take it down a notch there bro. Really? what is wrong with this post, Someone said that maybe I took the post wrong, and I said mayby so, but the point is legit. You're jumping on a guy because you misread. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. Saying I jumped on a guy because I said he did not make his point is a little lame but that is fine, I will try to refrain from hurting any ones feelings.

  25. Newby needs to stay on the bench, just because some are 4* players doesn't mean they have college talent. Newby showed me nothing, Wilbon has some talent he can hone and Cross should have kept on the weight, he is not better as a lighter player, only effective about 50% of the time.
