  1. Great, let's just give up a huge play every drive. What could possibly go wrong?
  2. I think 2/3 of the recent posts in this thread prove the OP's point.
  3. So, what people need to realize is that everything we are experiencing follows a pattern that has been repeated dozens if not hundreds of times across college football. The end-of-the-world proclaimers, the excuse makers, the optimists, the defiant fans who vow to stand with the team even if it means they will never smile again. The people screaming for HC's head, the people who hate the AD, the people who are worried about attendance. And so forth. Nothing of this is unique, even though of course it feels unique to those schools going through it. There is no such thing as permanent down for a program like Nebraska. We will rise again, and we will fall again. If we are lucky, there will be a national championship at some point. The important thing is to try and be a little zen about it and have fun. Nothing worse than a bitter fan.
  4. Of course they will figure it out. Great programs don't stay down forever, and our college football landscape does not allow for much "social mobility" among the teams. Which is great for Nebraska right now.
  5. I don't believe that for a second. Anyone who bothers to do a little homework knows that "9 win coach" was fired for good reasons.
  6. I just started a thread in the Football forum, and it seems to have gotten deleted immediately. There was nothing inflammatory in there, so I'm not sure what's going on there. Could someone look into that, please? I also got a message that I wasn't authorized to post in a threat. Not sure if that's related.
  7. This is my first year as a NU (grad) student, and I was stoked to be a Cornhusker. But wow...looks like I picked the wrong year to start rooting for the Big Red. To be clear, I think this team will get better, and Big Red will start winning again. I even think Mike Riley will figure things out. But to lose four winnable games like this is just more than I can take. This is just too frustrating to watch, and I like my Saturdays too much to be miserable.
  8. I notice this or similar statements being made a lot, but why is this? Surely Nebraska (and some really angry boosters) have deep enough pockets to pay out. And with regards to perception...I'm sure the football world would understand that a program like Nebraska can't afford back to back losing seasons.
  9. Nope He's not a screw up. I have followed OSU football casually for a while (they are local). He did well with what he had available. But OSU was satisfied with moderately successful seasons for a long time. Nebraska is an entirely different league.
  10. How so? I get that there were many reasons for firing Pelini, but if Nebraska fires a 9-4 coach, surely they won't waste too much time with Riley. We still need to make our mark in the B1G.
  11. So, realistically, can AD fire Riley? How much is his buyout? How long is his contract?
  12. Thanks for these insights! So it doesn't sound like many of these problems are new. It makes sense that the program takes a dip with a new HC. I am just surprised by how bad we look. You know, I am also a Gators and (CSU) Rams fan (I shamelessly follow all schools I have attended), so my tolerance for pain is fairly high these days. I guess it's a good thing that this community doesn't think a 9-4 season is acceptable.
  13. 9-4 sounds like a great season compared to this train wreck. Thanks, Redux!
  14. I am trying to understand where this horrific inconsistency on both sides of the ball comes from after a good season last year. Does it seem to be the HC change mainly? What about the rest of the coaching stuff, lots of replacements? Key players lost? Not looking for a perfect explanation (which probably doesn't exist at this point), just some input. Btw, I live in Oregon and have followed the Beavers casually for a few years. These last second heart breakers and discipline issues don't look like him.
  15. Lots of good things in this game, but man, that defense and our total inability to tackle someone in the open field is gonna lose us a ton of games. :/
  16. I second the Leaf. I'm only 10 miles from my nearest towers, but I just attached it to the wall behind my TV. Picture is excellent unless there is interference from heavy rain etc. I use this plus a Sling TV subscription during football season and have never missed cable TV for even a second.
  17. That sounds like a perfect Oregon experience. The coast up here is beautiful, and if you like beer, the whole area is a paradise. Astoria is actually still in OR, but Washington is a stone throw away. Lol, yeah. That was a sad attempt at a first post. LOL there is a reason why the show Portlandia is so funny. It's because there is a lot of truth behind it. It is a very nice town, but I have never seen so many dreadlocks in my life, no what that is not true, I saw more in Seattle. Seriously. Portlandia is often a pretty accurate representation of the real Portland. The rest of Oregon is actually pretty conservative, but there is a definite live and let live attitude here, so people get along. It's probably the beer.
  18. Oh, no, Oregonians in general are nice and very laid back people. Ducks fans are a bit full of themselves, but who can blame them these days? Hope you'll get to spend at least a little time in Portland, it's fantastic town. Probably a bit too hipster for Midwestern taste, but great beer, great food, and great people. Thanks, BIGREDIOWAN!
  19. I agree. Getting a new dog doesn't mean any disrespect or lack of love for your first one. There are plenty of dogs in need of a good home. The sooner you can get one, the better. Of course everyone in the family should be ready for this step. Edit: Also, I just accidentally reported someone's post here. Hit the wrong button. Sorry, mods!
  20. Hi, I'm new. I started a master's program at UNL this fall. It's completely online. I live in Portland, OR and have never set foot into Nebraska (yet - this will change), but there is a lot of room in my heart for college football teams. So the day I got my acceptance letter, I bought a Cornhuskers shirt. I've worn it a couple of times when I was out in bars, and I have been amazed how many Go Big Reds I got every time. I knew Nebraska had an amazing fan base, but I did not expect there to be so many fans on the West Coast. Also, it feels great to be part of this. Can't wait to see Lincoln, UNL, and Memorial Stadium!
