  1. After second thought, these announcers aren't half bad...
  2. It will be. Rutgers contribution just won't be very much. Felt that way about Illinois and Purdue games. At this point there isn't any outcome that would surprise me. A blowout in our favor would be surprising, lol.
  3. I have a feeling that this is going to be another high scoring game. Could go either way...
  4. Correct. This thread is about the athletic administration and not about Riley. I've heard the whole contract extension talk for Eichorst has ruffled a lot of feathers and that donations to the program (from a football standpoint) leaves a lot to be desired.
  5. I hear something BIG is about to go down at DONU. Recently, University President Hank Bounds spoke to the media regarding Perlman, Eichorst, Nebraska football. There was a rumor Trev Alberts was in Lincoln but this was confirmed that he is not. Donations apparently to the program regarding football are at an all-time low. Not sure what this means for Perlman/ADSE/Riley. Link
  6. Real classy to crap on Jammal Lord. While he wasn't the best passing QB, his time at NU is under appreciated. He had bad RB's and WR's and Lord was out there pretty much all by himself. Agreed. If Jammal Lord had played at NU five or six years earlier he would be remembered among the all time great Husker QBs. The guy was a heck of an athlete. He just didn't have the surrounding cast. Disagree. Jammal Lord put up huge stats by calling his own number. He ran a Nebraska offense where the most successful play was a broken scramble. He was a 46% passer, and although not asked to pass much, still threw 12 interceptions his Junior year. His passing numbers didn't significantly improve his Senior year and his rushing numbers were considerably worse. His running backs, Dahrran Deidrick and Cory Ross weren't chopped liver. They'd probably be starting for Nebraska today. His defense gave up only 14.5 points a game, comparable to our then-recent national championship teams. Aesthetically, Jammal Lord's offense was a horrible thing to watch. Great athlete? Sure, why not. But a quarterback I'm still trying to forget. If anything, Lord is over-rated for being under-rated. Every time he did an audible from the strong side everyone knew it would be an option to the weak side or vice versa, lol. I still remember hearing groans in Memorial Stadium whenever that occurred.
  7. Against MSU, we showed quarters coverage and then would adjust to Cover 2 on the fly which is something we haven't really seen. This is something Stanford does a lot against Oregon except they're in a 3-4 base and we go with 4-3. We would switch from man-to-man to zone before the snap and this caught MSU off guard. With quarters coverage you can stop the run, the bubble pass, and 4 verticals and other deep concepts and you bring 9 men into the box while you do it. If you have enough speed, you can shut down the short passing game. You can adjust to a Cover 2, Cover 3, or even Cover 4. That's the thing with Quarters is it adds flexibility to your defense. You have to have very good talent to perfect it even though the scheme can be ran with inferior talent on D and it can put that talent in perfect position to stop an offense, you still have to win the one on one battles. The Quarters coverage is now being ran in a lot of high schools across the country so as long as we recruit players familiar with the scheme, the transition to Nebraska will be easier. I would have liked to see more creativity from the quarters coverage look such as doing it from a 3-4, 4-2-5, or even a 3-3 stack. It's a very aggressive defensive scheme and you have to have the ability to disguise your blitzes and we don't do that. The scheme allows a player to play with confidence and you gain that from having consistent success and knowing your assignment. You can really punish an offense with this defensive scheme, you don't need superior talent to be successful with it but it does help. You do have to have very good technique. A lot of high schools that were .500 around the country have turned the corner running a Quarters coverage scheme. At times against MSU, we forced Cook to throw the ball at tight angles and his intended target either had a corner right on him or he had a safety flying full speed at him it's just we got beat on numerous occasions because Cook is a very good QB but when you saw our pass defense make clutch plays, they were executing the scheme correctly and winning the battles. MSU also runs a similar scheme with their defense but our OL and our RB's were winning the battles. It's tough to say if our problems on defense are because of Banker (jury is out based on his record) or talent, or players not buying in. The buck always stops with the coach who is teaching it.
  8. I agree with this. If people were to go back and watch highlights of him, he is very explosive. I watched a ton of his QB runs and he just had this burst of speed going into second gear and would break away from defenders.
  9. Ganz played in what, roughly 17 games? If he had as many starts as TA, Joey would be way ahead of the pack statistically as far as passing stats go.
  10. When the big boy started getting yards after contact, you could tell the MSU defense was getting tired of tackling/chasing him. This was a case of Imani doing what he knows best and that's heading north and breaking through arm tackles it was a great thing to see. I also saw some good pass blocking on his part as well hopefully this translates into more playing time in the final 2 games.
  11. Stanford IMO runs a better quarters coverage. They will adjust to a Cover 2 but mostly Cover 3 if they see a formation that appears to be a passing situation or depending on down and distance. Our defense looked a lot more comfortable in Cover 2 coverage against Michigan State. Talent will always trump scheme and maybe this is the case of the talent being utilized incorrectly, I don't know. It sounds like the coaches are placing blame on players not "buying in." To the average fan that may sound like an excuse to get an extra year and I hope that's not the case because I don't see Banker having much success on defense. Riley needs to think real hard about getting a known commodity to coach defense.
  12. I can't see Riley firing Banker. Perhaps he will help him land a job elsewhere that way he won't have to fire him otherwise it's hard to imagine our defense getting any better. If we were a top 50 defense, I'd be more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but at this point of the season based on what I have seen thus far, I cannot do that.
  13. IF Langsdorff can figure out to run the football ,and utilize our stable of RBs, I am fine with him. He is actually a good QB coach, he just needs a real QB at the helm ,and I think that is what we are all hoping for with O'Brien. You look at his track record at Oregon State and he did a decent job. He had multiple QBs with NFL talent there and also Oregon State had utilized the run with some decent RBs. I have hope for Langs, and will give him another year with Riley. Banker on the other hand needs to be replaced. I understand the long relationship with him and Riley, and I doubt Riley fires him, so I wouldn't be surprised if Riley just gives him a position job, like D-Line. Go out there and hire Orgeron. That's just it. We have moments like last night or the Minny game where it seems like Langsdorf 'gets it', and then we have an Illinois, or Purdue on our hands. And I agree with what you say about Banker and Ogeron. Kinda shocked that Riley didn't tap him sooner when he was offering on Twitter to come to Lincoln--I think a lot of folks could have weathered this season better knowing there was, say, a Top 15 recruiting class waiting in the wings. And Orgeron would've been guaranteed to bring in a Top 15 class? It's a hypothetical, and a more realistic one were Ogeron on staff. There were quite a few folks hoping Riley would bring him on just for his recruiting acumen. That's not to say this staff can't make a Top 15 class happen...just that it's not as likely without. I wouldn't have minded Orgeron on this staff, and there was a rumor that he was interested. We probably won't have a Top 15 class this season, probably more like Top 25, which is where we've hovered for the past 10 years or so. It's tough to say. He is known as one of the premiere recruiters in CFB though. I imagine having him on staff would have been similar to when we had John Blake recruiting for us and our top ranked 2005 recruiting class. Blake had a hand in a majority of the commitments. Orgeron has landed some good players at LSU. I don't know if I could see Orgeron leaving LSU anytime soon but he has a track record of wanting to be challenged. I wish Nebraska could get high profile assistants like LSU has -- Orgeron (DL), Kevin Steele (DC). Yeah, I don't see how our class will get in the top 15 just based off the total number of recruits we're looking for unless the rest of them are 4-star recruits.
  14. I thought it was a bad call too if you try to look at it from an unbiased point of view, anyway. I was pretty sure the TD would be called back for illegal touching and my reaction to them confirming it's a TD I was like everyone else in the stadium I heard the crowd in the stadium absolutely go nuts when the call was confirmed. With that in mind, I'm pretty sure the rest of the stadium wasn't as confused as your emoticons are. I didn't know the wording of the rule so when the play happened I was pretty sure it was going to get called back as well. I was there. A lot of fans around me weren't too confident the TD would stand. We had a pretty good vantage point by the way but there were some who were a bit tedious waiting for Nebraska to somehow get "screwed out of the call" so I was a bit surprised the TD stood and immediately after, I was thinking to myself, "Oh, f**k! Now we have to play defense!"

  16. Not sure if this has been posted but for those who weren't at the game, this is a pretty good video of the Nebraska sideline in the final minutes of it and the post game.
  17. Coaches coach and players play. It took a team effort to win the game but at the end of the day, I tip my hat to the players. They were in this game from the coin toss!
  18. Yep! Nate Gerry almost had a pick from the Cover 2. In person, I definitely saw more Cover 2 in that game than I had seen all year. We should have come up with at least a couple INT's tonight. Cook just got lucky.
  19. He was also in the locker room jumping up and and down dancing with the players. He's got to continue to get more involved/exposure like that.
  20. "He who sheds his blood with me today shall be my motherf****** brother!"
