  1. To give a little more empathy than a lot of these replies... I used to be the same way, so I know exactly what you are saying my friend. However, I lost this feeling sometime during the Bo years (one too many blow outs), and frankly I think it is a much healthier way to be. We shouldn't overly identify with a football (or any sports) team. Our happiness (even if just for a day or two) should not be dependent on how well they perform. One could almost say perhaps it is better for us that we have gone through this so that we won't do this any more going forward. But I think, despite what a lot of folks are saying here, that many of us understand EXACTLY what you mean, and we've been through the same feelings and process. Hang in there, the good Frost years are coming up... but even when things get good, remember that it's just a game, and even if they win or lose it doesn't change your life for better or worse.
  2. I agree with you that it has no bearing on MR job security but it is more than formality because it increases the money that must be paid to him when he is let go.
  3. Leach is a nut... better off if he stays out in the middle of Washington. I agree with #1 & #2. #4 seems iffy to me.. I don't think he has much upside and his offense would limit our chances of getting to a championship. Better off taking Les Miles assistant Wilson than Les at this point. Any of these are way, waaay better than Riley. Riley's a great person but only an average coach.
  4. This isn't the Pac10/12... what you are describing occurred there, where teams are quite frankly pretty flakey and usually have just godawful defenses. There is far less probability of this occurring in the B1G. I don't see this team beating tOSU or Penn State. Just not happening. If nothing else, tOSU's O-line (and almost all of their athletes) are even better than Wisconsin's. Thanks to this last game Urban will know that all he has to do is let his big boys pound us on the ground and in the 4th quarter there will be giant, giant holes to run through. Not that it will go that far.
  5. Well the good news is, if any outside coaches were worried about us firing a 9 win/year coach, they don't have to worry now. Riley couldn't get 9 wins this year if his life depended on it. Yes firing a 9 win coach makes you look a bit nuts, but firing a 4-8 coach is something everyone understands.
  6. Your post is a mass of negativity. Luckily the boosters et al are not nearly stupid enough to do this in my opinion. I think they keep Riley “officially” until almost the end of the year before firing him and announcing a new HC or HC search. Unofficially he is already gone.
  7. Taylor had almost 10 yds per carry. He is the real deal.
  8. Thankfully Wisconsin keeps trying to throw it, which they really don’t have to do. They are gashing us pretty badly. We should thank them for that.
  9. One thing to keep in mind is that they are running right through our front and it’s not even the 4th quarter yet. Imagine what kind of damage they will do in the 4th....
  10. Because the pregame made it look like we had a chance?
  11. Look at what team is #2 in your rankings... more data that Scott Frost should be the next HC...
  12. 1-7. We maybe beat either Illinois or Northwestern but not both. Everyone else beats us...assuming we stay at our current level. Its not optimistic but it is realistic based on what we know now.
  13. Are we going backward in time? Do you mean 2018?
  14. We all would. But sometimes you have to take a risk and strike while the iron is hot.
  15. If the O-line plays like they did on Saturday against Rutgers the season IS over...
  16. Ok, another good point I'll stop now.
  17. Ok, I agree with you and I was wrong in my original comment. They are either very close in performance or Pelini might even be a bit better.
  18. I wouldn't consider that Riley has been recruiting for 3 years... I'd say instead that Riley had more 4 stars in his first 2 years (10) than Pelini did in his last 2 (6). And that is significant I think.
  19. Ok those are some good points. I guess it comes down to whether you consider the 0.01 delta between Pelini's average and Riley's to be significant then. At least so far Riley has been very consistent in class average, but Pelini had 2 years that were better than any of Riley's so far.
  20. Thanks for this. I also added Rival's rankings and here is the new table. Then I made some plots in JMP. Class Average Recruit Ct #4* Rivals Rank Recruiter 02 .8316 18 (2) 39 Solich 03 .8316 19 (2) 42 Solich 04 .8237 20 (2) 27 Callahan 05* 0.8523 32 (7) 5 Callahan 06* 0.8493 22 (5) 20 Callahan 07* 0.8587 26 (6) 13 Callahan 08 .8449 29 (3) 30 Callahan 09 .8580 19 (2) 28 Pelini 10* 0.8642 20 (5) 22 Pelini 11 .8832 21 (9) 15 Pelini 12 .8773 17 (8) 25 Pelini 13 .8655 24 (7) 17 Pelini 14 .8601 25 (2) 32 Pelini 15 .8617 21 (4) 31 Pelini 16 .8707 21 (5) 24 Riley 17 .8758 20 (5) 20 Riley 18 51* Riley I didn't count the current recruiting year since obviously that is not done yet. It is close but at least in Average (not sure what that is) Riley is ahead of Pelini. Same thing with Rival's ranking. Riley is slightly lower/better. Pelini has a slight edge on average # of 4* recruits (by 0.25 per year). But it is indeed close no matter which way you slice it. The things that stand out here are: Callahan was by far the best recruiter by 'class rank' but is worse than Pelini or Riley by Average... Solich had two really bad years recruiting right at the end Callahan had an amazing 2005 class (inc. Suh). Riley and Pelini are closer in recruiting performance on average than I expected
  21. Well as for how do we know there aren't consequences as he describes... we don't... well, I don't. I have no contacts on the team or the coaches office, but I assume JP gets to visit and hang out and see if he wants. So I trust him more than some random poster. Do I have documented, verifiable proof? No, but I won't ever get that either. Not unless Riley comes right out and says it. A lot of folks here seem to really focus on the 'Truth'. As if the 'Truth' is some magical, absolute thing that it is possible to know. I've got news for you. We almost never know the 'Truth' and likely mostly never will. The best we can get is 'more or less likely' or 'some evidence for' or 'some evidence against' or 'strong evidence for' or 'strong evidence against'. I rate this article as 'some evidence for' what he is saying. Certainly he gives several examples and others have given examples as well. Some of those are known occurrences that are in the media and some are things that only someone close to the team might have seen. Given the actual performance and issues we've seen on the team, the 'some evidence for' getting added to the performance of the team makes this 'more likely than not' to me, but others may have a higher standard - fine. But please don't pretend we will ever know the 'Truth' or that all of these articles or inputs have to be at some 'defined ultimate Truth level' we are never going to get that... at least not until we are dead. The enemy of 'good' is 'best'.
  22. Really? I have to admit I didn't do the math on the recuiting classes but if I remember correctly the classes we had with Bo were typically ranked in the 30s, while with Rilely we seem to be in the 20s. But I haven't done the averages. And of course everyone here keeps saying how he is so much better of a recruiter than Bo was and how Bo's teams just kept getting worse because he hated recruiting.
  23. I miss hating Oklahoma... don't miss playing Texas, so NO. Also I think the godawful seasons we've been having would hurt worse against the Big8/12 teams we played when I was growing up. It's a little easier to take against B1G teams that we don't really have a history with.
  24. By the numbers Bo is a better football coach than Riley. There can be no argument with that. Riley is a better recruiter though, again by the numbers there is also no arguing with THAT. They are both not acceptable as coaches for Nebraska when we want exceptional teams, not average or worse than average teams.
  25. Look you can dislike the messenger (and I don't, but I understand why others might) and still need to hear the message. Is there some level of 'back in my day we used to have to go uphill both ways to school' in these comments from JP? Yes probably. But while I never played college ball, the bit i did play resonates with what JP said about accountability. I know that I focused a LOT better on what I was doing when I knew there were consequences for screwing up. When I jumped off-sides in practice because I hadn't paid close enough attention to what the QB said and then had to run laps, well guess next time what I made sure to do? Are there things nowadays that coaches used to do to punish players that they can no longer do? Yes. But there are other ways to hold them accountable and without accountability -bad behaviors won't change. JP is 100% right about that. If there is indeed a lack of accountability in the athletic department in general and the football team in particular, well, success at a focused, championship level WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE. JP is again 100% right about that.
