  1. I live there now. For the record it was gerrymandered but it's only a "Trump lean" last time I checked. I'll vote for the someone not Trump who has the best chance of beating him. Unless at that point the polling is 35-35-30 and Johnson's losing. Then I'll probably vote for him assuming I don't find out that I don't like him. I liked what he says and his approach, but not his voting record on issues that matter to me (i.e. gun control, stem cell research etc)
  2. I am so very excited for you! I cry each time the tunnel walk starts, and I can't get to the stadium early enough (much to my friends' dismay) it's just such an incredible day. I miss those OK vs NU games too - what a great tradition that was. I only get back once every couple years now, and so much has changed with tailgating, etc. Others can help more. I can say that if you can get a room at The Embassy Suites downtown it's a perfect location - breakfast included, they have a big party for pregame (the band comes there) and it's easily walked to and from the stadium.
  3. And yet, depending on where you are (state) for this election voting has to be more calculated than just supporting who you want. Wise decisions and right decisions aren't necessarily the same this go round. It's like Survivor and making alliances and figuring out how to vote to make sure the right person survives in the long run.
  4. I'd forgotten how big his head is. Truly. Big. Nugget.
  5. From your mouth to gods' ears! Seriously I don't know how anyone can look at the two conventions on paper and say: "hmmm Antonio Sabato Jr. Chaachi, some WWF guy, 5 family members speaking highly of a candidate" OR "sitting president, VP, multiple past presidents, current senate and congress people, shoot her biggest competitor endorses her proudly". I think i'll vote for the guy that has his kids and wife saying he's solid.
  6. What's more silly than that rule is that he isn't polling at 15% yet. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!! very true - need money and exposure - Maybe if he would say some real wacko bird things he'd get some free media time. Nah, I don't think any candidate would do something like that Oh he's said them - just on small outlets. Samantha Bee had a good interview w/Johnson. Funny, but it didn't make me think he was a strong option. Edit: or at least not a strong option for me and the issues that are my hot buttons.
  7. "He brought feelings to a frickin' fact fight!" (possibly my fav quote of the election season so far)
  8. I have yet to watch all the speeches, but what I can say, is that the CANDIDATE will likely take some time to outline what she is going to do and HOW she is going to do it (did the other guy ever share the how's for anything btw?) when she speaks. The speakers leading up to her are there to introduce her and her vision, history and skills. Typically national conventions are about instilling hope and sharing the qualifications of the candidate, not spending the two-three days leading up to that person's speech fear mongering and instilling despair into the country. Last week's of course, spent a lot more time with two bit tv stars and family members teeing up the crowd for Trumps catchy sound bites. From my memory, that isn't typical.
  9. If you haven't seen this yet, or don't have HBO it's a fantastic 16mins. I still can't get my arms around Newt Gingrich's interview with CNN. But his comments and attitude is exactly what's so wacky about this election, and the republican Trump ticket in particular. "Newt Gingrich brought a feeling to a frickxng fact fight".
  10. Let me ask you this. Other than white men, what minority is more likely to be a Republican than a Democrat. Not blacks Not women Not hispanics Not young people Not gay people .....etc. BTW...this is a serious question. I've thought about this a lot. I guess you could say Christians. I'm not sure Jewish people would be Republican. Anyone???? I see your point but, minority groups being fooled and played by a political party is hardly evidence that said party is really any better for them. Sure, the Dems pickup more of those minority groups but the real question is, should they? I'm not sure how any sensible adult could blindly support either party any more. Great point. I never will understand blacks voting for Dems at a 95% rate...especially given that black lives are not better under Obama. The Dems are great at identity politics and racial and class warfare which is why Obama has not done more to address the racial divisions in this country. With the white vote shrinking, he wants to do everything possible to maximize the minority vote. REALLY? You don't understand it? You've got a party figurehead like Rudy Giuliani (and a hell of a lot other angry old white guys) up there saying things like "Black Lives Matter is inherently racist" and you can't comprehend why black people wouldn't fall in line? And honestly, the republican party claims that black lives are no better under Obama ... I don't know a black person that has said that. Not one. Umm...here you go..listen to Tavis Smiley and the real data points and tell me that no black person feels lives are worse under Obama. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/01/tavis-smiley-on-every-leading-economic-issue-black-americans-have-lost-ground-under-obama-video/ And more articles on this topic: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/433222/black-americans-barack-obama-going-backwards-under-president-obama Hey BNL - good articles here. I guess my perspective was on the polls where people were asked how they felt their lives were (subjective for sure) and how many were happy with Obama. Those numbers are high, as they are with younger folks, women, and white college graduates. Then the question becomes, if the majority of the black population says they're happy with him and their lives currently does it matter what the statistician numbers show? What I'd like to look for is how the performance of of the black population is on these stats vs. white or the total american public. I've had a hard time finding numbers that are easy to compare. Essentially if the stats for black americans are on pace with what white americans experienced during the same timeframe, then this is a non issue, and for me the issue becomes why are we looking at americans by race instead of as a whole? Or by region? If there are huge discrepancies, or out of proportion changes (i.e. white americans had increase in wages of 8% and black americans had an increase of 3%) then there are way bigger problems. There are ups and downs in financial markets, employment etc., some of which is tied to the presidential office, some that are totally out of that position's control. When I set out to research there is data out there showing mostly positives when it comes to market growth and unemployment etc. under Obama. Essentially there is good, and there is bad - and either of us could probably find info to back up our opinions. Lots of hypothetical questions posed in my answer I suppose, but honestly I don't have the energy to dig through more data to find out any more tonight.
  11. I think you're right on that from ADS, if only it wasn't so telling when it comes to how HS kids think and act.
  12. So I'm sure I'll get beat up by some of you on this, but wanted to note it nonetheless. I put a lot of stock into how a recruit carries himself, when I see them, how they act on social media and etc. For instance I changed my vote on Lindsey after watching him interact w/our staff at FNL (I have him going to OSU). So last night on Twitter after Echols announced his visit date (Fresno St) he got the typical #GBR congrats. Not a ton, as I think the state is very rightly focused on other things right now, and they were very vanilla, "going to be great to get you on campus" stuff, with the exception of one ND fan, who chirped about what losers Husker fans were because they talk to recruits on Twitter, and they he guessed that was because our coaching staff can't recruit so the people of the state must have to. No biggie really, happens all the time, but what pissed me off, and leads me to believe the Hunter is playing us to get his followers up and make a trip with his buddy and nothing more is that he reacted to no Nebraska tweets EXCEPT to the ND person that said we fans were losers. Again, small potatoes in the scheme of things, but he proved early on in the recruiting process that he is one to play the Twitter currency game. I see zero chance of him being N and kinda think he's a punk for playing us. His back and forth on visits and announcements is indicative of that as well. Perhaps my mind changes as the days go on but right now I put him in the Kylin Hill bucket - no thanks. Don't like people playing with the good fans of NE.

  14. I disagree. These poll numbers do not include any information post-DNC leak. If anything, things will be a wash, but I think Trump will actually extend his lead. 538 even predicting a Trump victory at this point! http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/#now Yeah i saw that Nate Silver now has Trump in the lead. Hillary is likely to get a bounce herself but it could be tamed by the corruption in the DNC. How can anyone take Hillary and Obama seriously anymore ever when they claim the Gop tries to disenfranchise voters while the Dems do not. I know many of you like watching the poll numbers - according to some published today, Trump saw no real bounce post convention. The people that liked him going in, liked him coming out. Those that were on the fence didn't leave any more likely to vote for him coming out of the convention, so his numbers didn't really move - flat. http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/poll-no-post-convention-bounce-donald-trump-n616426 http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/poll-no-post-convention-bounce-donald-trump-n616426
  15. I agree - I think this fundraiser is sketchy. Maybe well intentioned, but I don't get the impression that it's been well thought out, I messaged the planner and have yet to hear back. I'm sure that in the last 24 hours since the accident the person hasn't gotten UNL and the Foltz family's approval to raise money in his name and there's already almost $1k in the account (unless it's a family member, and from the content on the site that doesn't seem to be the case). I think it's insensitive to the family. It took YEARS before Brook was honored, and that was done by the university to my knowledge. After living through the Boston Strong fund raiser here as well as others that get started after tragedies, it's all too fresh, people will take advantage of others who just want to do "something". I was simply trying to donate money to a fund for the family and came across that, I didn't give any money. Went and checked out the creators facebook page. From what I could see he has no ties to the family or the university. Like you said, well intentions, but too soon. Not trying to be a downer just wanted to bring awareness to this. Hope I didnt come across sounding like I was coming down on you - wasnt the case at all. Times like this we all just want to do something - but there is always somebody who takes advantage. You. (And others) were at least smart enough to look into the creator of the fund. ,

  18. I'd suggest everyone give this a listen, it's only 20 minutes. Could have done with a little less of hearing how Tessitore's son is such a gifted athlete.
  19. If you know the person who set this up - you may want to ensure that they're complying with all the rules the state of NE has for fundraising for situations like this. I sent an email for clarity but haven't received a response. It's now hit twitter so I'm sure it will snowball quickly. There are lots of state and federal (and I'm assuming the University has a whole different set of rules) guidelines that have to be met for something like this ...
  20. Either that or he's getting good guideance and listening to it, either way you're right. I just hope that we're able to get him there for a one on one visit vs just a game day with a bunch of other recruits. I think he's one of our higher potential lands, and I'd love to make some headway with him asap. I don't doubt Williams is all over it, I get the sense he has a handle on our Lindsey chances and where Calvin currently stands. To be a little morbid, the energy at the Fresno State game is going to show absolutely everything Nebraska has. It's going to show how rabid we are as a fan base and how much our players mean to us. I have to imagine it's going to have a huge impact on the fans that are there. Thanks for the reminder of that - very true. Still want him there AND able to spend some time one on one at a separate visit. Think about when some of those lineman came in the off season and how they felt with the attention on them for the day ...
  21. I sent a note to the person who created it asking for clarity of the university and the family's involvement. If they're involved it needs to be documented in the text, and honestly if they're involved it is something that should be done through a university foundation, not a Go Fund Me. (my opinion) I'm sure it's well intentioned, but it will snowball into something significant and handling it this way is (imo) inappropriate.
  22. I'd hope that the family and the university have been consulted about this - I hope nobody donates to this cause without that backing. There are lots of people who take advantage of these situations.

At least someone on the Dems side TALKS to them and actually acts concerned about their issues. Instead, if you met a KKK member, which party is he most likely to belong to? If u watched the RNC last week there was plenty of outreach to blacks and minorities...it needs to continue though Oh come on!
