  1. Everyone who has replied to me thus far, you make some good points... I dunno, maybe I am too old and completely out of touch with how this new generation responds to adversity.
  2. Why would you "resent" your coaches? Their job is to win football games. As a player, I would hope your goal would be to want to win as well--and that you'll be willing to pay the price to do what it takes in order to win. The military is not much different. No matter how hard our drill instructors hammered us, no one ever resented them; because we all understood they had a job to do, and it was our job to learn the training that could potentially save our lives in combat. Point is, in my opinion, hating or resenting your coaches/instructors for demanding excellence is pretty pathetic. If you're a player on a college football team and you're not there to give your all to win, then leave and go do something else. Don't be the anchor or dead weight dragging the yeam down.
  3. Well he's here for 5 years at the absolute minimum. Frost didn't quit back in the day when things were tough for him as a player, and there is NO WAY he's quitting now.
  4. Probability of a Wisconsin win: 99.8% Hell Purdue was projected to have a 62-63% chance of winning and they put 42 on us. I am going to watch the game next Saturday,...but for how long???? I don't know. I'm thinking we're going to get severely thumped again.
  5. Let me ask you...You ever been in situation where you had to pay physically for someone else's mistake(s), i.e. do pushups, climb the mountain, bear crawls, crab walks, etc? Well, I have. And probably many others who have been in the military have as well. I am here to tell you, nothing will turn a team (or platoon) against a fellow member faster than them being hammered with PT while the offender(s) watch. You can disagree with me, that is fine. But I know what works in correcting mistakes in a group setting. You punish the entire group and things just kinda sort themselves out.
  6. *Recruiting the right players takes time. *Recruiting depth takes time. *Getting the players physically ready takes time. *Installing new systems in all three phases takes time. Getting our players to NOT hit players out of bounds, NOT make late hits on the QB, etc...Those are things that are basic principles that players know not to do from their Pop Warner days.
  7. It couldn't hurt to try. All I know is when teamwork is not happening, punishing the entire team is the best motivator. Like I said before, the best part of my suggested approach is that it puts it all on the players. Don't commit stupid penalties, then there is no punishment. Make stupid decisions and commit penalties, then pay the price. You'd be amazed at how effective this type of approach truly is. The unstated goal to this approach is, as @grandpasknee said: to get the team to self-police.
  8. Are you at practice every day? Do you know for 100% what is being done to address this issue? My point is, probably none of us here in Messageboardville know what is being done. And further, whatever *is* being done, if anything, clearly is NOT working.
  9. Well we could do it your way and just accept there is nothing that can be done about these penalties. Coach Frost will do things his way. That doesn't mean no one can suggest an alternative--this is a message board after all. To the point about #21...I legit never saw him and usually he sticks out like a sore thumb because he's being beaten on nearly every snap.
  10. I don't think Lamar Jackson played at all today.
  11. Why can't there be a -1 option for posts like this?
  12. And what I am saying is there are ways to make people who don't care, to make them suffer to the point where they voluntarily quit and leave the team. And yes, while a college football team and a platoon in the miltary are different, there are many similarities: team/platoon cohesion, trust, teamwork, effort, and never giving up are commonalities among both settings. Additional commonalities include group punishment and reward.
  13. I doubt anything like I have suggested has been done because dumb penalties are still happening. I am also a believer in calling out the offenders by name to the rest of the team. For example, "Okay, everyone in the bear crawl position because (forgot the player's name who did it) hit a player who was already out of bounds." Into the crab walk position because so and so blocked a player in the back on a punt return. Physical punishment, via physical training, is the greatest inducer of misery coaches and military instructors have. And here is the beauty of it: the players themselves are in control as to the extent of any punishment. Do it right, there will be none...do it wrong and get hammered. Simple yet effective.
  14. I have an idea to stop the penalties... For every yard the team is penalized, the entire team does 100 yard bear crawls after practice. Let me tell you something from my military days, NOTHING does more to stop bad habits or get screw ups to start doing s#!t right faster than punishing the entire team. Because then, the over-whelming majority of players who aren't screwing up, get together and "blanket party" the offenders.
  15. To the bolded word: I think contextually, using the word masochistic would have been a much better fit. To the point of this thread: *We're cutting down on turnovers...only went -1. *The offense is getting better. *For a "blitzing and attacking" defense, we're doing neither. *Too many blown coverages on defense. Some of the penalties called on Nebraska were obviously the right call. You can't hit a player out of bounds. However, at least half of our penalties were absolutely chicken-s#!t, pathetic, ticky-tack calls. Purdue's OL and DBs were grabbing and holding our DL and WR's all game long and. Purdue's WRs were constantly pushing off, and in all cases, not a single flag was thrown. I also don't like blamimg referees, but the calls are so one sided I question the integrity of Big 10 officiating. Referees will penalize Nebraska for things that they let every other team get away with. I mean at this point, the proof is indisputable. I am not sure how Coach Frost is going to fix this. Referees are just looking for an excuse to penalize us. And if they can't see a real penalty to call, they'll make one up. So here is the biggest thing I have learned, Nebraska has to not only defeat our opponent, but they have to defeat the referees also. The refs are on the side of who ever our opponent is. On offense, this game against Purdue we showed more consistent life, than any other game. We had a fantastic opening drive then a snoozer 2nd Q, but showed some explosive potential through the 2nd half.
  16. @tmfr15, name me one other fan base who would keep selling out their stadium every single game over the last 15+ years Nebraska football has endured? Hell name me one program that would have sold out all their games if they had the equivalent of Mike Riley the last 3 sessons? You may "cringe" at the Best Fans label, but that is your weird drama. To me it is an immense source of pride. As @Landlord link shows, Nebraska fans are reknown in college football for how well we treat opposing fans and that is something to be immensely proud of. I guess what I am saying is maybe find something else to cringe over.
  17. Yeah but alcohol can even make fans accostomed to losing do and say things that they would normally pass by if sober. And while most of us (even the pre-season kool-aid drinkers like me) now understand just how steep of climb this re-build job is; there will always be those morons who get on sports talk radio, twitter, etc and start putting the idea out that Frost or some of his coaches should be fired. Hell, we've already seen such posts already here on this board and that was after just a few games. So yeah, we lose again, at home, to Purdue and certain sectors of this fan base could become totally unhinged and yeah, things could get much much worse.
  18. Do I think the "meltdown" could get any worse? Yes, yes I do. I legit have no idea what will happen in this game. As always, hoping for an NU win...
  19. I don't even want to know the meltdown that will come to this board if Nebraska loses at home to Purdue.
  20. Yeah I agree. I don't think it'll last. It is one of those passing fancys like automobiles.
  21. Your post here is anecdotal...but...it definitely matches up to what we are seeing in college football with the QB position.
  22. Then could you make it so that funny or sad (or any other emoticon) could be used in conjunction with a +1/upvote? And perhaps this is a "pandora's box" but what about adding an option to give a post a -1? Not necessarily have affect rep points, but just have it as a way to say I disagree with your post?
