  1. Although some coaches find their comfort zone at a coordinator position, or at a particular school, I think it is safe to say Watson would love a shot at a head coaching gig... specifically some place middle to upper tier. I honestly think we will take a hit when he leaves, but I have a feeling that coach Beck is going to learn a lot from Watson, and could potentially provide us with another O coordinator within the organization. QB's under watson have a very long line of success, and that is no coincidence.... that is what will really hurt.
  2. huskerjen... 1) When I said we need this guy, you took it all too seriously. Observe: "I need caffeine in the morning to get me going" 2) And I don't see anywhere in this thread where anyone indicated a meltdown if we didn't get him, yet you brought it up in your posts ad nauseum. 3) And you argue against other peoples opinions with.... an opinion. Albeit I agree with some of your "formula" for success, it's still an opinion. now if i had mod power this thread would be at about 40 posts long...
  3. Really need? No. Would it be nice to sign him? Sure. According to a poster above, Nebraska is Carter's #1 choice right now-which is very nice and I'll be really happy if he signs with the Huskers. However, if we don't sign this kid come February, the sun will still rise and life will go on. No. Armageddon will be amongst us all if Curtis Carter does not sign with the Huskers in February. I understand you were being sarcastic. However... Unfortunately some of the more passionate Husker fans among us, and by passionate I mean insane, would take it as such, especially if Carter commits and then signs with another team. I wasn't on this particular board, but I was on another Husker board when the whole Josh Freeman debacle broke and, at the time, their were some Husker fans who I seriously thought were either going to have: 1) a stoke, 2) a coronary and/or 3) their heads would explode. well i am not a recruiting expert but i follow this board pretty often.. sometimes i get pretty worried about the lax attitude that some people have hear... 'well we dont need him' 'it dont matter if he comes here or not' well i wonder who do we need? and when will they show up?? we can't keep thinking that all this talent will fall into our lap... we need to go out and get kids and make them want to come to nebraska or you know what we are never gonna challenge for anything serious again.. 9 wins is awesome but i hope nebraska can get into a BCS game contend every year and kiss ass.... when it comes to chilling on recruiting brah we need to get going in my opinion and do all we can to get kids here instead of just shrugging our shoulders when a recruit doesn't committ..... theres lots more opputrunities but the good deals are going fast and we dont want to be stuck with only dented cans at the grocery store... aloha this. We may not need Carter specifically.... but we NEED more guys like Carter... While we can't guarantee that he will be a super star, from the recent reports and such it sure is sounding like the odds are pretty good. This isn't a debate about stars or anything like that. this is about seeing a legitimate prospect with a very high ceiling that can help take nebraska to another level. Our offense is just begging for a receiving threat that can take it to the house on any given play. If we find one, he will play very early in his career at nebraska.
  4. man that makes football life so much easier.. knowing things like this.. are you a member of rivals or scout. beucase im tired of going on there websites seeing stuff like "is Nebraska still in the mix for blah blah" and then i get on here and no one really answers it.. i wish osmebody could let us know every main topic on huskers illustrated. that would also make my day or do you fans know any other websites that tell you the stuff rivals doesnt O It is a violation of board rules to post material from a pay site. If someone has an inside source and decides to divulge a little info here and there, that's another thing. As far as direct interviews with the recruits goes, pay sites are where you find that info. There are other ways of getting that info, but it is much more difficult. This site does a good job of keeping up to date. Usually not up to the minute, but close. As far as Carter goes. he could be an impact player for us... we really NEED this guy.
  5. Is it really that big of a deal to "give him a shot" at qb? a week throwing balls under the watchful eye of our staff and we will know whether or not he is going to make it at that position. I say give him a shot at QB if he wants it, but reach an understanding that there is not promise and there is a strong likelihood that he ends up at either WR or DB. We need playmakers at those positions... As soon as recruits notice that, they will be willing to work at one of those spots.
  6. hmmm, I guess I can stand rooting for Purdue. Much better than him going to the domers.
  7. Hack, Call of Duty I presume? Anyway, Bobby is extremely excited about the Huskers offer. He will be visiting this summer late July. we view Nebraska as... A program with a outstanding history. A program on the unswing with an unlimited upside. A program with a fan base that is un-matched in College sports. A prgram with an exceptional coaching staff who know how to prepare young men for life. A program with a vast number of outstanding educational options. Kind of hard to beat in my book. Can anyone share the offense the Huskers will be running? I assume a move to the spread is in the works? There will be some spread elements involved. The whole offense sort of evolved last year. We started the year primarily running a pro style/west coast offense. After the Missouri game we cut a bunch of stuff out of the playbook and started building on what was working best. The result is a hybrid West coast spread offense, predicated on short consistent passing and running from the shotgun. we didn't actually run that much qb zone read stuff, but it was in there several times a game to mix things up. I don't think it will ever become our bread and butter though, as it takes a toll on the QB and our methodical passing game really needs that cohesiveness that a distinguished starter gives you. The other thing to note... Shawn Watson has been an amazing offensive coordinator, and he actually builds the offense around the players strengths. So 3 years for now (if he hasn't landed a major head coaching gig) we could be doing something a little different. I think he will always try and stay fairly balanced though.
  8. From everything I have heard and read he isn't "upset" about LSU not offering. He just mentioned lsu has always been one of his favorite programs.... nothing about him scorning them for not offering yet. This one is going to play out for awhile, which is fine because we will have the opportunity to bring him in for a game. He has also mentioned he is paying close attention to where he is needed most (assuming he feels he could make an early impact on the depth chart). If we lack playmakers at receiver this year, that might help our case a lot.
  9. he had several issues from what I had heard. grades, practice habits, etc... he was in the doghouse from the get go and decided to transfer (louisville) i believe.
  10. does this tighten the screws on Gabbert? I have a feeling it will. Wats really liked what he saw from Robinson in person. it's a win win situation if we get either one of these guys. Robinson has a great deal of respect for the coaches (namely HCBP) and one of the deciding factors to where he commits is the coaching staff and the integrity they have. Hold on tight, the recruiting roller coaster is just starting...
  11. nice find... needs to be updated though!
  12. What about everyone else though? Is there anyone who might be in trouble from the sounds of it, everyone who signed with nebraska this year should make it academically. I don't know when the last time it was that we had this happen, but I like it.... I will give credit to the coaches for properly evaluating the players and making sure they weren't a huge risk...
  13. There is a lot that goes into the running game. Last year we had trouble establishing a power running game early because of missed assignments. TE's needed to sure up their blocking big time. I don't think our game plan changes much from last year. They have had another year to get blocking assignments down, another year in the weight program and I think they will be better. Helu and Castille will both be better than last year, and hopefully ward and okafor can provide a solid third and fourth option. In practice our line has had some opportunities to go against a decent defensive line as well, so that can only help.
  14. very lame attempt at humor.... BUT much of what he said was true Been reported that Mizzou commit Marquise Hill has stated he will take an official visit to nebraska and is still a Mizzou commit but probably now considered a very soft verbal. Marquise said, "I really want to go to a Big 12 North school, and I want to go to the best one. I thought Missouri was gonna be the top, but now with Bo Pelini at Nebraska I think they will soon be the best in the North and Big 12 champs. I want to play for the best team, and I feel Nebraska will be that team."
  15. Greg Paulus will be playing for the Orange this season. http://www.news14.com/content/local_news/t...ke/Default.aspx
  16. http://www.news14.com/content/local_news/t...ke/Default.aspx Heading to Syracuse
  17. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if they play "artificial" crowd noise through the speakers? I know memorial gets rockin when it really NEEDS to, but the last few games I have been to I have been sort of disappointed with the crowd noise It seems like I remember it ALWAYS being loud when the blackshirts are on the field, winning or losing. Can they alternate speakers in the east and west to start "husker power" chants or anything like that?
  18. Yeah, just look what speed has done for the Raiders . I don't think you always have to be 6'4 to play receiver, but 5'7 is to short, unless he is a return man, or a darron sproles type RB. If we didn't go after this kid hard, then we are just plain stupid. who are talking about anyway? We have offered no 5'7 receivers from FL. I want the type of stud that can play as a freshman, and Keeston Terry is not that good. I still want hm, but he a long term project. I have kept my comments to myself, but Terry doesn't bring a whole lot more to the table than the other receivers we have on the roster currently. If we can get another guy as consistent as Swift, then we need to get him. Hopefully Terry is that guy. But we are REALLY hurting for a game breaker at WR. If TTU and MU can pull one in, so should we. Sucks we had to miss on another guy like Mccay, but I think the coaches knew this for awhile and have moved on anyways.
  19. Bo was announced awhile before that. (he coached in the national champ game after the press conference for him) National signing day is the first wednesday in february, so most likely a recruiting announcement was on that day??? idk, now i'm curious Edit - Looking at commitment dates, Osborne twins and Antonio Bell made their commitments on 1/27/08, so I'm not sure that is enough to warrant the traffic
  20. Agree with most of this. I am still not convinced that we would be hesitant to put in Latravis this year though. I honestly think he is going to be #2 either way. Kellogg did well at our QB camp which is encouraging but he will be way behind in the offense and adjusting to game speed... Our best option might be getting Ebke back there for a #3 option to preserve a rs for Cody IMO. BW - out of curiousity, what do you think the plan is with LT Washington? do you think they want to RS him to compete for the starting position next year and take over once Lee is gone? giving Green 2 years to potentially start?
  21. Is he nuts... hahaha Okay. He will be slightly missed. He would have been way better once we got our big guys out there next year, but we have some other guys that should be able to step up.
  22. correct. No worries, I don't think this guy was even in our top 5 on the board for QB's.
