  1. I would gladly stop watching football all together for 5 million. I slowly quit watching football for free over the past 10-15 years anyway. I would be disappointed with the team/results if that meant Riley was still coaching, but I have no problem spending my Saturdays somewhere other than infront of a TV or packed like a sardine on a aluminum bench. Winning is great, but everything else about being a football fan is pretty forgettable.
  2. Lol that's probably true, and with all due respect to Lee, I hope all three of our QBs this year preform better than him.
  3. In a shoot-out sort of scenario, Gebbia's arm and accuracy gives us more of an edge than AMs legs. I wouldn't say we need to take more risks, I would say we need to probably pass more than we would necessarily want, but that it has to be smart and mistake free, not risky. Something most true freshman struggle with. If we're down a score or two, we're going to pass the ball more. If Gebbia's arm is clearly better than AM, I know who I would want on the field in that situation. I'd be thrilled if AM proved to be as good or better of a passer, but if not, we can't have passes floating too long or too high, and not expect to pay for it at some point. He would need to be a really really great runner to make up for any floating or inaccurate passes, we need sharp accuracy.
  4. Another reason I lean toward Gebbia, is because of the Blackshirts. No offense to our D or D coaches, but I look at the schedule, and I only see 3 or 4 teams that I expect us to hold under 20 points. I see another 5 teams that will likely score 35+. I'd be thrilled to be proven wrong by AM, but on paper, I'd rather have Gebbia in command if/and when we need to play fun-and-gun on the road. It's not even game day, but we already know that if we want to beat OSU, we will need to score 45+ points. We're going to need to sling the ball without turning it over. I just think Gebbia's skill set gives us a better chance in the shoot-outs we're about to get into.
  5. I think we'll probably see both QBs in the first week or two, but if we want to realistically compete in conference play, we need to be settled on "the" QB by week 3, imo. There's nothing wrong with pulling a QB mid game or mid season if he's performing poorly, but unless we seriously plan on drawing up packages for both, then we're going to suffer once we get into the meat grinder of conference play if we're still playing musical chairs - even in practice. Imo, if either QB takes over sometime in the middle of the season it's likely because something bad has happened, not because it finally "clicked" for the other guy. I voted for Gebbia because I think he's more of a complete player, I think he offers more flexibility in terms of gameplaning week to week and with potential in-game adjustments. I think he's better suited to use the skill players around him on any given week..... On paper, I look at him as a Joe Ganz type. Solid passer, solid runner, level head, it might look ugly or broken at times, but if everyone else does their jobs, we'll do pretty well. He might not be electric as a runner, but I think he's like Ganz in that he's a grinder, a gamer. I think AM will get playing time this season, but unless he takes control by week 2 or 3, then I don't think he'll be starting at the end of the season.
  6. Ok thanks, I didn't see that report
  7. I'm confused, out of context, what reports said they were pressuring Martinez to go faster? If Gebbia is making better reads and is more accurate with passes, I think that qualifies as more efficient at the moment. Regarding pressuring Martinez, do you mean the coaches want him to play faster? Or that the D played more aggressively against him than Gebbia? If the coaches want Martinez to play faster, it tells me that he either has a higher ceiling, or that he's playing tentative. I used to have a coach that would say "I'd rather have to hold you back than to try to get you to play faster" (paraphrasing to apply here). That would favor Gebbia imo, if they aren't asking him to play faster, then he must be playing fast enough already. Or AM truly has separated himself, and they want him to reach his potential asap.
  8. It's crazy, college kids are so indecisive.
  9. Yes but we're actually living in a JJ Abrams movie.
  10. Wow, in hindsight, you can really see how casual that practice/culture really was from those clips.
  11. I've flip flopped on black unis over the years. I don't think they look very good, but I get it. My main sticking point with alternate unis has more to do with overall design concept than it does color. If an argument couldn't be made that our alternate uni looks "in-line" with our traditional look, I'm probably not going to like it. An alternate shouldn't stick or like a sore thumb compared to regular unis. Most people should think, "wow we should wear that next week" (like everyone said after the 62 throw-back), not "I hope we get another black uni this year" (because the last one wasn't that great, and nobody really cares if we don't actually wear that same exact uni again). That doesn't mean black or gold are off limits, or red helmets, or anything, just don't kill the project by trying too hard. We don't need to try to look good, we already do. My point is, they better not use duct tape again.
  12. Gamedays won't be much better, this is your warning.
  13. Its funny that Davis in the distant-background is as big as Frost in the foreground in the second to last pic.
  14. Can you imagine that along with some Wildcat or direct RB snaps mixed in, all at a Frost's no-huddle pace.
  15. Nobody has ever said "tall kills" though.... Speed kills, and we're going to play fast, really really fast.
  16. Idk what you mean by angst. I think our striped pants look good, but our plain pants just look miles better than with stripes. Simple as that.
  17. I agree, but would add team chemistry to that ceteria list.... Team unity has been one issue this staff had gone out of its way to emphasise this off-season, so I expect the starter to be the one who has fully embraced whatever leadership qualities this staff is looking for. Maybe not the top issue, because I expect all of the QBs to have good command and leadership, but I think it will play a factor.
  18. Same, but I wouldn't mind if we wear the striped pants once every year or two as a throwback though. Just often enough to remind people how much better no stripes looks haha. I'd like a road version of last year's throwback too, and a road version of the 62 throw back too. I don't think it would hurt anyone's feelings of we wore those every year or two. If I had to guess on this year's alternate it would be that we aren't getting one, or based on Frosts daily wardrobe, I'd say that we're finally going to have a straight forward black-out uni. That guy only wears black lol.
  19. It sure seems like someone spiked Frosts Gatorade with Kool-aid today.
  20. I don't see it that way. I hope we have several top flight QBs here in 5 years, but we don't even know how good Martinez or Gebbia really are, so it's impossible to guess if we will have anyone significantly better or not. And it's impossible to say if a "better" QB will make it to campus to start with, or learn the offense, or stay healthy. I know it seems impossible to think that we won't be better off, but unless we can point to this QB or that QB, then we really shouldn't gameplan around the abilities of a current HS QB. For this season, if Gebbia wins the starting position, I don't see why we wouldn't try to use Martinez' RS. Play him in 4 games (1 or 2 up front, save the other 2 for if Gebbia gets injured or struggles), and still use his RS. That's the ideal scenario if Gebbia is equal or better this season. If Martinez or another newcomer is better, then by all means play him. But if someone's not going to contribute, then why waste the chance to RS them. With the new RS rules, as a general team rule, I feel like we should be playing our true freshmen as much as possible during our first 4 or last 4 home games. Limiting exposure of the higher classman, and saving their bodies as much as possible for the brutal road games.
  21. Yeah, I agree, but I think limit Martinez to two games to start, not three. Maybe we adjust the plan after week 1 or 2, but best case scenario in my mind (assuming they'rere basically even at the end of camp) is that we get Martinez game experience, but still try to use his RS. If they are even, then think limit Martinez to only two of the first 3 games, maybe even a full game. So we're getting him exprience right away in the event that we do need him, but can still use him (and keep his RS) in the scenario that Gebbia gets a minor injury, but doesn't necessarily miss more than a game here or there. And in the scenario that Gebbia stays healthy all season, then we can play Martinez in clean-up time in the playoffs to get him more experience before next season, and still use his RS. Or maybe Martinez is just better, and should play all season. Hard telling.
  22. Watching Farmers presser, he looks and acts like a bull waiting in the chute. I feel for anyone who lines up across from him.
