  1. If Nebraska protested the hire like Tennessee, then Barney Cotton would probably still be the head coach right now. I think things ultimately worked out for the best.
  2. This offense doesn't require a mobile QB. Look at Chip Kelly with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. Nick Foles, a lead-footed pocket passer if there ever was one, had his best season under Kelly that year. Foles started 10 games and threw 27 TDs and just 2 INTs. The Eagles went 10-6 and won the NFC East. A mobile QB is a nice luxury to have but not a necessity. You need a smart and accurate QB that can make the proper reads pre-snap. Although a guy that can do those things and also run a 4.5 40 makes things even easier.
  3. I don't post as much in this thread anymore. It's way too easy to fall behind and nobody cares about comments from 17 pages ago. Anyways, here are a few thoughts from this odd day. I was always cautiously optimistic Nebraska would get Frost. It looks like the biggest hurdle, Florida, is out of the way now. I suppose Texas A&M and potentially Florida State could make a run at him. But you've got to like Nebraska's odds. Florida firing McElwain early didn't help them get the alleged top two guys on their list. Dan Mullen is still a good hire though. He will do well at Florida. Maybe not Spurrier or Meyer well, but better than Ron Zook, Will Muschamp or McElwain. Tennessee fans may have done irreparable harm to their program. "Prefiring" a coach before he gets hired isn't a good look. (I'm not getting into the Schiano allegations at Penn State because it's hearsay.) Good luck hiring another coach that wants to go there after that, let alone one that fans will ever accept. Tennessee may be the new Minnesota or Pitt now. Just some team that was really good 40-50 years ago. And I'll end on another Nebraska note. Nebraska hiring Scott Frost would be the best thing to happen to this program in a long time. A breathe of fresh air that would unite and excite the fan base.
  4. I don't know how to photoshop GIFs or videos. If someone else does though, just put Frost's head onto the body of the USF guy that scores. Caption it "UCF trying to keep Frost in Orlando."
  5. I think there are three scenarios. 1) Nebraska hires Scott Frost: Frost and UCF play Memphis on Saturday. If it's Frost, I think it's officially announced within 48 hours of the AAC title game. 2) Nebraska hires someone else knowing they can't get Frost: If this is the case, I think it's officially announced within the next two days and by Monday afternoon at the latest. 3) Nebraska doesn't hire Frost, but thinks they are getting him until the bitter end: This is the really bad scenario. Hopefully some of the backup plans are still available. I think it may take until the middle of December if this happens.
  6. The refs weren't really that bad. Nebraska was that bad.
  7. I don't know if that specific scenario has happened. I know that Steve Spurrier won a Heisman at Florida and then went back there to coach. Not exactly the same, I think he's from Tennessee, but similar. Jim Harbaugh to Michigan is also similar, but not the same. He didn't win a Heisman like Spurrier either. Those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head. Where the guy was an extremely successful QB and then went back to his alma mater to be the head coach.
  8. To the OP, assuming that Frost is hired by Nebraska, I think there are only two realistic scenarios. Scenario 1: UCF loses to South Florida on Black Friday. Nebraska could have Frost hired anywhere between that Friday night and that Sunday. Scenario 2: UCF beats South Florida on Black Friday and plays in AAC title game. Nebraska hires Frost on the Sunday or Monday after conference championship weekend.
  9. I also hope it's true. I'm sure someone else has already said this, but it would be fun for Nebraska and Florida to play in a bowl in a few years and have it be Frost vs. Kelly.
  10. An easier conference, better facilities, lower academic standards and the Noles have been much more successful in the last seven years.
  11. I'm not necessarily speaking for myself, but I think a lot of people just feel like they've been burned too many times in the past. We were told to trust Eichorst and trust Riley.
  12. Again, I don't have any inside info. I still feel like Florida is the only other school to be worried about. Tennessee - Third best job in the division, have to play Alabama every year in crossover game UCLA - Not even the best job in own city, bad facilities, and ultimately it's a basketball school that doesn't care much about football Arkansas - It's the fifth or sixth best job in the division, plus you have to play Alabama every year Other jobs aren't open yet. I could see Texas A&M or Auburn being problematic, but that's about it. I think it's Nebraska or Florida for Frost. And Frost may not be Florida's top choice.
  13. I don't have any inside info and I'm just speculating. I don't think Gates necessarily dislikes Tanner Lee. I think he just doesn't have the motivation or desire to work hard. My guess is he is super confident in his abilities, like most D-I athletes are, and just thinks he's going to leave after this year and play in the NFL. Nebraska hasn't been good in his time there and he's ready to leave. Therefore, he's just going through the motions and that's why he plays poorly. Again, just speculation on my part.
  14. My dad was born and raised in Omaha and graduated from Nebraska. I never lived in Nebraska but grew up in South Dakota, so I was still close. I'm a Nebraska fan because of my dad and because the Huskers were really good when I was a kid.
  15. Also, a waiting period was never discussed for the recently-filled job as AD. I'm not going to pretend I read every single piece of Nebraska news. But between the Lincoln Journal Star, the Omaha World Herald, the Rivals guys, the 247 guys, and everyone on this message board, I think someone would have mentioned a definitive waiting period if there was one.
  16. For the people asking for the legalize on hiring Scott Frost. Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer and I've never lived in Nebraska. I'm almost positive Nebraska does not have a mandatory waiting period. Nebraska has changed head coaches three times since 2003. We'd remember if Nebraska had to wait X amount of days to officially hire someone. If I'm wrong and there is a waiting period, then it's only three or four days. Either way, it isn't going to be an issue in hiring a new head coach.
  17. I don't know man. I'd probably take three straight 10-3 seasons. A 10-3 season in the Big 10 west also means you're probably not finishing third in your division.
  18. Ultimately, I'd prefer to find out Frost is the new Nebraska coach on 11/25. However, it's been SOOOOO long since Nebraska won a conference title. A conference title by proxy* would be nice. Gives us two reasons to cheer. * - Yes, that was a joke.
  19. Haha. Fair enough. I'm glad you put in terms I could understand. Whenever I tell people my thing was a bearer bonds scheme gone wrong, it never has the same oomph.
  20. I wasn't here in 2014. I've seen sock mentioned numerous times. I don't need an oral history, but could I get a brief explanation of the sock thread of 2014?
  21. It's also worth noting that Nebraska had a huge team in terms of total numbers. There may have been 150 total players. Phillips was a returning starter in 1995. Frost was a scout team quarterback. It's possible they basically never talked prior to the incident.
  22. Maybe there weren't. I don't disagree with you. I'm just saying that in terms of shady things colleges can do to help them win, the idea of county scholarships doesn't seem to rank that high to me. At least in a state like Nebraska. In Texas, California or Florida? Yes, that would seem very advantageous.
  23. I don't know much about county scholarships. This is how it was explained to me, by someone who isn't a Nebraska fan. Nebraska had numerous kinds of academic scholarships. They had a specific kind that were dubbed county scholarships. They were called that because they went to the best walkon in-state football player in each county. Some say it's true, some it isn't. I don't really care. Even if it is true, I don't think it would have anything to do with Nebraska's struggles today.
  24. I hear ya, but that just means Lane Kiffin can go to Florida State. All Joey Freshwater needs to hear is that FSU used to be an all-girls school and he'll sign within minutes.
