  1. Enough with the rumors! This is not journalism. Stop feeding this crap to yourself people!! SheepdogMark
  2. Enjoyed his highlight reel. A weapon catching the ball out of the backfield. I don't think we have a play like that for him at present. Could be a factor in his recruitment. Shades of Johnny "the Jet" Rodgers. I could see him returning kicks. SheepdogMark

  4. Ya think ... hearing about Harbaugh possible leaving as well ... I was just surprised to see the post on this day. I have no clue, but the bowl showing by Stanford and the quality of school it is ... I'm sure he's at their top. SheepdogMark
  5. Enjoyed this whole thread entitled, "Kody Spano", which really talked about alot of other QB's. Welcome to the board fearandloathing by the way. Say, I wanted to say to you that Knapplc is a MOD with 10,000+ posts. I know he doesn't need "defending" ... but I was just struck by the "challenge" within your posts. Knapp is a guy I've found pretty solid and knowledgeable about Husker football ... and how he says what he says on the board always goes a long way. He is very easy to get along with. I just wanted to express a little bit of love to my Knapp friend. I loved your thoughts as well ... don't get me wrong ... and many on here are very passionate about their views ... I guess I was just struck by a 30+ poster talking to a 10,000+ poster (MOD) like he had no clue. :-) I'm gonna give any person with any amount of posts a fair shake ... and ... being a man of tradition and respect ... I'm gonna give it to a guy like Knapplc. I know these thoughts don't add to this good discussion ... but I did feel compelled to speak up for the quality of this board, the MOD's and how they speak with respect to people like myself who is really just a fan with not a whole lot of knowledge. I'm gonna grant you both some respect and love ... both today and moving forward. SheepdogMark
  6. You are on your own on that opinion, in my mind Cotton needs to be the first one to go he is TERRIBLE! Thank you! Cotton sucks! Should not be here in the first place. Posted this in a new thread, but maybe it goes here. In regards to the coaching of the offensive line and the talent we have at that position, thought I'd submit these thoughts for consideration. I researched and gathered this info off of Rivals. Wisconsin was known this year for it's great offensive line. The Badgers' offensive line goes: 327 (Outland Trophy-winning left tackle Gabe Carimi) 323 (first-team All-America left guard John Moffitt) 318 (center Bill Nagy) 315 (right guard Kevin Zeitler) 322 (right tackle Ricky Wagner). Carimi - 3 star (2006) Moffitt - 3 star (2006) Nagy - 3 star (2006) Zeitler - 3 star (2008) Ricky Wagner - Walk on (Yes, walk on ... gotta love that!) Note that the Oglesby, a 5 star in 2007 and Konz, a 4 star in 2008 are not starting. jliehrs added some information on the guys: "Oglesby started 3 games his freshmen year, 10 games his sophomore year (injured in others), and started the first two games this year before hurting his knee, he played in a few other games, but had knee surgery in December. He has had a ton of injuries that have set him back, but was preseason 2nd team All-Big Ten according to Phil Steele and was on the Outland Trophy watch list. Konz started 9 games in 2009 and 10 games this year, he also got injured. He was a freshman All-American by sporting news last year, honorable mention All-Big Ten team and was on the watch list for the Rimington Trophy." Outside of Oglesby and Konz, all the rest of the Badgers recruits are 3-stars going back to 2005, a couple are two stars ... and don't forget that Ricky Wagner walked on. Doesn't one have to credit coaching to the success of Badger line? This is my concern for our line and the coaching in that area. It is looking more and more like we will have 4-stars across the board ... however, without the proper coaching what does it matter? Just some stats to add to the debate and comparison. SheepdogMark
  7. Great additional info to my post. I painted broad strokes to what I saw in the research. I don't follow the Badgers. Excellent info added to the post. Thanks. SheepdogMark
  8. Guys, Here's some interesting info I researched and gathered off of Rivals. Carimi - 3 star (2006) Moffitt - 3 star (2006) Nagy - 3 star (2006) Zeitler - 3 star (2008) Ricky Wagner - Walk on (Yes, walk on ... gotta love that!) Note that the Oglesby, a 5 star in 2007 and Konz, a 4 star in 2008 have not broken into the starting line-up (See jliehr's added information on the reasons in Post#2). Actually, those two players are the only two players recruited for the line that don't have 3-stars going back to 2005. Doesn't one have to credit coaching to the success of Badger line? This is my concern for our line and the coaching in that area. It is looking more and more like we will have 4-stars across the board ... however, without the proper coaching what does it matter? 9. Chiefs showed why they are the Chefs ... still!

Easy there, they are still going to the playoffs...

  10. Agreed Paul. I do think that the performance in the bowl did open up his mind to other options. The flood gates are not open ... but there are cracks. In the end, what you said I agree with and I'm not on the bandwagon as some I've heard saying, "here it comes ... let the decommits begin". Those kinds of "fans" obviously don't see the whole picture and the process ... they just want wins and can see anything other then the color red. SheepdogMark
  11. Read your thoughts ... and I agree with you that Mizzou game was a good win ... never would discount that. Again, my post was about the build up that results after sealing that win and setting up us representing the North in the conference championship. In the end, I think we see the same thing ... from some different perspectives as fans. Enjoyed the interaction. SheepdogMark
  12. that's dumb. did the missouri game matter? kansas state? okie state? TO made a statement once to the effect that the "big games" are the ones you lose. pretty much echos your statement. i agree though that we laid an egg in the bowl game and it might hurt recruiting. we're all disappointed that this season didn't fulfill its (unexpected) early promise, but let's not act like it was a total failure. we won 10 games and were darn close to being in the fiesta bowl. obviously we need to keep improving now and get this offense going one way or the other. You miss the point Dylan ... of course games matter ... but the point is you get to a point where you are say 5-0 and playing a team you want revenge, lets say it's Texas ... you are undefeated and a chance to go 6-0 and beat the team that cost the Big 12 Championship the year before ... Texas isn't that good this year anyway ... lets roll 'em ... and what happens ... you lose the game ... the one that really matters. No paybacks there. Ok, you lost a game you should have won ... you dropped four TD passes ... season isn't over ... all goals still before you ... lets get a win at Ok. Light ... you do ... you beat a great Ok. Light team with great firepower in their own house and show that you have some guns as well (Hey, we really have a nice QB in Martinez!). On top of it, you take care of Missouri and that budding rivalry and "show 'em" who's boss ... ok, hey ... back on track. You kinda give away a bit to Iowa State but hey, a W is a W. Still on course ... setting up for the game that matters. Lets take care of a bad Kansas team as we welcome Turner ... as we should ... cause if we do, you would think that all that is left is to beat a surging A & M team and we set up for a solid finish against Colorado (should be a W) and we go into the Big 12 with one loss. We can win the conference and go represent the Big 12 to the country. Oh wait, the game that really matters now is A & M ... we go "lay the egg" and screw up everything accomplished in the past three wins. At the time people on huskerboard are still thinking about a possible trip in a big BSC bowl and perhaps a shot at the national championship ... but when it matters ... we fold. That's ok ... all our goals are still in front of us (if I remember Bo's Q & A after that game correctly) ... even with the bad calls ... all we have to do is go to the conference championship and are goals can be attained ... oh wait ... choke ... when it matters. We lose the very game we now say was all that mattered. Oh, that's ok, lets go to the Holiday bowl and end on a good note ... hey, we'll have won 11 games ... 11-3 isn't all that bad. Let's make a good solid push and set ourselves up for a good recruiting run ... and WHEN IT MATTERS ... major FAIL! I understand if you "think that's dumb" ... but that was the thought in my mind. I just didn't think the statement would be challenged as "dumb". My view is alot of Husker fans see the same thing I do. To me, it seemed everytime this season we got ourselves where THIS win was gonna take is in the direction of acheiving our goals with this BIG WIN ... that one that would take us to a higher place ... when it really mattered ... we laid an egg. Just an opinion ... thanks for listening. SheepdogMark
  13. Jliehr, I enjoyed your post listing the rankings. Thanks for work on the post. I appreciate this line of argument, especially on a board full of opinion. I think a point to add to the discussion would be the quality of recruit we get verses Kansas. However, with our program the past 4-5 years we haunt had great recruits year in and out either. For me, I see the character issues as well for Mangino ... and I'm going to conclude as well that his weight is an expression of some deeper issues. I would think a guy like him would offer some grace to a mistake rather than berate the student/athlete. He's not for me ... but your argument substatiated the issue with some solid stats. SheepdogMark
  14. Agreed Fuzzy! At this point, if I were an offensive lineman I might consider another school, especially if I were a top recruit. Stars don't matter unless you are coached up. We talk so much about how we can take a 3-star recruit like Suh and turn him into a stud. At present, it's looking like we might take four 4-star recruits and turn them into a mediocre line. This puzzles and concerns me ... both the coaching and the lack of effort coupled with a lack of discipline that results in penalties. SheepdogMark
  15. Your questions seem to have a "topic" entitled "The Bowl Effect" ... however, it seems to me the posts thus far point to all the other issues that should "help" make an "effect" for us. Here's my take ... we sucked and put a final "stamp" on this season. We lost every game that mattered ... FACT! I would expect the staff to use the "negative" in the eyes of recruits as an "opportunity" for them in our future. I think the "bowl effect" is gonna make some key recruits with some nice stars to consider some other schools as they talk in their ear ... we have now opened the door to some shady recruiting by our lack of taking care of business. I don't see how we improved out position with any top tier talent in terms of coaching or attitude ... we laid an egg ... it smells. How all that pans out ... I don't know ... but I certainly don't think it's fair to just graze over this bowl game like it didn't matter or hurt our recruiting ... it did ... it does. SheepdogMark
  16. My main thought after reading the entire thread is ... we have a couple of QB's coming in that certainly have some shake and bake ... like it or not injured or not ... the performance of Martinez and the issue of likeableness and leadership have opened the door to any newcomer. Thus, I remain optimistic at the QB position. I have more concerns on our offensive line ... even with the recruits ... we have not pushed around a lot of teams and we seem to underperform and have to many mistakes which comes down to coaching. Again, we have lost every game that mattered in this season. SheepdogMark
  17. We suck! We lost every game that mattered during this season. Lots of talk by players, coaches and fans about how this won didn't matter ... all our goals are still in front of us ... and then we go lay an egg ... again. SheepdogMark
  18. USC is amazing and puzzling ... they have their sanctions and they still have four of the top 100 recruits. They have the #4 and #5 recruits in the whole country and are looking like they might land 6-7 of the top 100 recruits. That is just crazy-scary! There's gotta be some nice bribes goin' on over their, some really good pot and a few other benefits outside of the weather and the girls ... cause that just doesn't seem right. SheepdogMark
  19. I've checked on this guy almost everyday for 3-4 weeks. Very interested in him ... almost a fetish. :-) However, I have nothing to add to the forum topic on him as I have no info ... just waitin' and hopin'. I do think we stand out among the four schools in terms of the best combination of football and athletics ... but does he see that? My guess is that if he is "that good" he can play just as early at Nebraska as he could anywhere else ... if he earns it ... and that gets back to how honest he is with his own soul and effort and what others coaches are telling him. We take a hit with the honesty in many cases that one will have to earn it. SheepdogMark
  20. Set him up with a username and password to huskerboard.com and teach him how to use the board. This board is a great environment for him and you to build memories of Husker football. SheepdogMark PS. Saw a Husker Flag for sale on ebay today signed by TO and Mackavicka (spelling) ... it's only a $1000.
  21. I was curious on the source. Confirmation? A few posts later fan said it was Scout? SheepdogMark
  22. Huskers just beat Miami 24-17 for the National Championship on ESPN. Good job Huskers!

    1. C N Red

      C N Red

Now everyone knows why Bo chose the Skers over the Canes. We are better.

  23. I think the log needs a more traditional look. The font needs more of a bevel and a traditional block to it like the Michigan "M" and/or the Husker "N". If the color is blue it should be a much darker blue. Personally, I'd love to see it be a dark blue with a black edge of vice versa. I don't mind the "legends" and "leaders" idea because of the intent ... would prefer "black" and "blue" and include the colors in the logo. SheepdogMark
  24. No offense intended ... but that was a "Fail". SheepdogMark
  25. Welcome to the board. Thanks for the post! Not interested in this game ... but expected it. SheepdogMark
