  2. I'm picking Purdue to win by at least 17 points. They will eat up our defense through the air and it will drive people nuts. It will be worse than Arkansas State.
  3. Didn't read the OP yet, but just going off of what this topic is about it is pretty clear what has taken place, IMO. 1: Incompetent leadership. Elite football programs have everyone bought in from the Chancellor to the players. When WI hired Barry it was a change of culture. Before he was hired the leadership at WI didn't give a crap about football. Then Donna was hired and it all changed. Now football is a focus at that school. 2: A loss of identity that also coincided with terrible hires at the AD and head coach levels. Nebraska is a culture of toughness, discipline, and out work the other guy. Fearless play. The program changed to a culture of softness, passiveness, doing what is just needed, and the like. The program is currently at the levels of the losing seasons in the 1960's. That trend will not be reversed until there is a competent head coach that understands Nebraska. Trying to out recruit the likes of USCw for pro style play is the dumbest thing ever tried at Nebraska. How to fix it? Bring in a native son, bring back what Nebraska was known from since the hiring of Bob to Solich. There is one guy that has the number one offense in the country that knows Nebraska. This isn't rocket science, folks.
  4. Only partly true. You have to ask the AD to speak with the head coach and AD's don't let anyone do that until the regular season is done. It is rare will a school go around the AD. Arkansas did it to get Bret from WIsconsin and was hit with a lot bad PR. It took a good 3 years before things started to fade away from that discussion. You can reach out to agents to get feelers before a formal interview/job offer when you can speak with a coach directly. After all of these years I haven't seen any school make a monster splash on a coaching search just because they fired someone on 10/17 instead of 11/11. LSU fired their coach before the season was done and ended up with their DL coach. MI fired their coach and had to wait until the NFL season was done.
  5. Coach Frost is scout team QB running the option in practice this week. They play Navy this Saturday at 2:30 pm CT.
  6. The only thing that firing Riley right now would do is put more stress on the football team. With only 5 games left of the season you might as well just let him finish the season out and work on getting the new coach, a deal greed to behind closed doors, and then when the time comes you terminate the contract with Riley and sign the contract with the new coach. The AD at UCF would not want schools talking directly with Frost until the regular season is done anyways.
  7. LSU hired their defensive line coach after previously hiring Saban away from Michigan State and Miles from Oklahoma State. Georgia hired a defensive coordinator. Miami hired a coach that got fired from Georgia. Syracuse hired a coach from a MAC school. Virginia Tech hired a coach from Memphis. Virginia hired a coach from BYU. Every head coach moves up from the ranks of assistant or coordinator. You strike gold when you get the next stud that is moving up from assistant or coordinator. The reality is, even if you hire a coach from another P5 school that wins big, it is highly unlikely to happen twice in a row. Oklahoma hired a coordinator and again hired a coordinator. If a P5 coach gets poached soon, I suspect it will be the Iowa State head coach. Penn State hired their coach from Vandy after two 9 win seasons. Before that they were hiring guys from the NFL.
  8. Riley's fate has already been determined. The move to getting the next coach will start soon.
  9. He will speak with Chip who will tell us to offer Frost. TO will tell him to hire Frost too. That is how we will get Frost. Frost runs a more hat on hat blocking scheme compared to Chip's zone blocking. Otherwise it is the same offense.

  12. There was nothing in that presser today that was supportive of Riley. Everything was backhanded comments basically indicating he knows Riley sucks and doesn't even need time to make the choice. Get to Lincoln, get settled in, fire coach at season end, hire new coach. Bill talked with the leadership at Nebraska for over an hour last night and everyone was pissed off and angry. There is no way Riley is being retained. The only reason why Riley isn't fired today is because it's just another 5 games left. You are better off getting the coaching search started and then bull the trigger.
  13. Liking this new guy already. He knows Riley sucks and will replace his ass. Who he hires is what will matter. I'm sure hoping it will be Frost. I could live with Chip Kelly.
  14. It is clear he was brought in to build the football program back up. That means Riley is basically already fired without being fired yet. Chip Kelly, IMO, now becomes a realistic candidate because of the connection from Oregon. Realistic: Chip Kelly Frost Utah caoch Navy coach (might be pushing it, but still a solid coach) His focus will be to build the football program back up so I suspect he goes with someone that is a bright football mind.
  15. Read was at Montana before Bill started there. Bill became AD at Montana in 1990. Read was there in 1986.
  16. Monata won a national championship and also played for another national title when he was the AD there. Monata never had a losing season when he was their AD. started as the AD at Oregon the same year that Mike Bellotti became the head coach. The rise of Oregon football was because of Bill - stadium improvements, investment in the sport, etc. The foundation was laid out for Chip Kelly to take over and make the run he did. The more I research this the more it becomes clear, IMO, this is a football minded hire. They went out and found an AD with success and revitalizing football programs.
  17. Should also say he did an amazing job at Montana for football. If I remember right, didn't Montaka win a national championship for football when he was the AD there? The rise of Oregon football was under Bill. I'm a happy person this afternoon.
  18. Played football at a high level and did a great job at Oregon and Washington State for football. Good hire. Now go and hire Scott Frost and then we will have Bounds that knows football, an AD that has done good things in college football (Oregon and Washington State) and if we can get Frost the football program will be a lot healthier moving forward. One last piece of the puzzle remains. Go and get it done.
  19. Fielding a team that isn't even competitive is an insult to the state, the alumni, the players, etc. Coaching is a results oriented profession and he isn't getting results.
  20. Chatter on Twitter that the new AD is Danny White from UCF. Personally I hope that is true. I would be very happy with the prospects of being able to land Scott Frost.
  21. Purdue plays Rutgers next week and should win that game. I suspect Purdue will be favored in two weeks.
  22. Why leave Oregon? Because a single alumni approves everything. You have no real control over things.
  23. Mike Riley has always been a failed coach. He had some good years at Oregon State (Bo level) but the majority of the time he has flat out sucked. He has been a complete disaster since 2010. 24. It was on Twitter earlier today. Yesterday there was an article saying the AD's at ISU, Oregon and Arkansas. This morning there was an article saying Oregon and Arkansas. I would be happy with Mullens or White. Personally, I would want White since he has direct contact with Frost.
  25. I would be very happy with that. That would drastically increase the chance of Frost coming.
