  1. $15M isn't that much anymore. Nick Saban alone gets paid $11M. There are coaches with buyouts of $15M and $12M. Are you afraid of doing what needs to be done (aka doing business) or live in loserville because you are afraid of what the line item says on the accounting sheets?
  2. Hearing rumblings that Frost has already made it clear that he wants be a candidate for the job.
  3. But he has Nebraska connections. Therefore he is not qualified for the job. He isn't ready for a P5 job. What makes Forst a good coach, he only went 6-7 last year and that wasn't an 0-12 team he inherited. I don't have a clue why people use those talking points when it is obvious to anyone with a good football mind that Coach Frost is a solid football coach and has an impressive resume.
  4. Good thing today is Wednesday so the Ohio State game is almost here and the Riley supporters (not saying OP is) will no longer have the talking points of "but what if we beat," "but what if we beat," etc. Those are desperate talking points for people who are afraid of making change. Change happens all of the time in sports and business. Just today a MLB team fired a top level employee for losing in the playoffs for the second year in a row. And people are afraid of firing Riley because of two losing sesons out of three (which is going to happen)? Crazyness. Who cares if a couple of recruits leave. You want a good head coach so you win games in the future and good recruits in the future will come.
  5. The easiest way to spot a potential hire before news breaks is to follow the AD's on twitter and just randomly check their latest follows once a day and if you see someone starting to follow Nebraska accounts, then you will have found the hire. It may not go down that way, but it is the easiest way to find the answer to who will be hired before the news breaks.
  6. Yep, that would be the case if he had all of the control. Who would Tom Osborne recommend is a good question to ask.
  7. Jeff Long is the latest rumors. There have been rumors of the AD at TCU and the AD at Ole Miss. People are just guessing. The interim AD was on the radio this morning talking about the AD search and from what he was saying there isn't a lead candidate right now.
  8. Very good interview. He isn't going to become the full-time AD. I know people already know that, but he remains consistent on that. He talked about the football program, AD search and more. On the AD search, he talked about the need to hire someone that understands the Nebraska culture and also understands other things like the walkon program. Sounds to me that we could end up hiring someone with Nebraska ties. I know Jeff Long and Brett are the latest rumors that will end up being false. Doesn't sound like they are going down that path. Tom Osborne will have say in the search process (or has already). Like it or not, that is what he talked about so it would be reasonable to expect that kind of result when the hire is announced. Ed Stewart is my guess on who gets hired. On the football side of things, he repeated several times about the need to win more football games. He spends time with donors and others of the level during football games so you can assume that his thinking will be different now than when he came back for a few weeks based on the desires of the donors. He stated the culture in the athletic department is good, but they need to win more football games. You could tell he almost tripped up by saying "we gott get a .." then caught himself and changed the course of the sentence. http://www.1620thezone.com/SharpandBenningPodcastPage.aspx
  9. Year Tom Herman Scott Frost 2014 OC for nat. champ. 10. Saying things can be correctable from film study is one thing, but it is another to be able to have the player be able to make the corrections. For example, bad angles on run fits can be noticed easily with film study, but it isn't easy to fix bad habits in a game. Reps, reps, reps. And some players just never get it and that can be from high school to the pros. Some call it football instincts.
  11. Things are being run by the leadership right now. Heck, they are meeting with recruits on their officials before games and the following day. They are active and they want to win. I'm sure a final decision to fire Riley hasn't been made yet, but with the way things are going, and it will get ugly again on Saturday, that they pretty much already know the direction and are planning for it. I'm sure the leadership will be talking about Riley's status during the interview process.
  12. Personally, I prefer there not to be leaks. When a leak breaks for an AD level position, it can mean two things - the AD is leaking it from their end to get a raise or they want to pull out because they want to stay at their school.
  13. Interview requests went out and I'm sure they are in the interview process and weeding down candidates. We should hear something about who the new AD is before the end of the month. There is interest in the job from sitting AD's according to some national media people.
  14. Mike Riley will be fired. There is a post on Scout from a p oster that has connections to real insiders and that is the plan. Mike has not been told he will be fired but he knows he could get fired and is getting desperate not to get fired. Hence why he is now begging for more time. Riley has been a career failure everywhere he has gone and he will continue to have losing seasons at Nebraska. There is no point in keeping Riley around. Cut bait, deal with the impact, hire a new coach and move on with life.
  15. Scott Frost - hell yes. Should be the top target. Chip Kelly - I would go after him. Give a big offer and make him say no. Les Miles - no. David Shaw - wouldn't be against it, but he is staying at Stanford. Paul Johnson - no. Too old and doesn't recruit at a high level. Chris Peterson - we missed our chance previously. Dan Mullen - hell no. He is another Mike Riley Gus Mulzahn - he wouldn't come so don't bother. Kyle Whittingham - wouldn't be against it. Jeremy Pruitt - Seriously? Mark Helfrich - No Justin Fuente - He isn't coming but you should ask. Justin Wilcox - No. Charlie Strong - No Tom Herman - He is at his job for years and years. Gary Patterson - not coming Clay Helton - Who? Brian Kelly - No thanks . Jeff Brohm - I would ask. DJ Durkin - No. Matt Canada - No. Dave Aranda - No. Bob Stoops - he retired for a reason. The Navy coach is the guy that should be on this list. Solid coach but would need to recruit at a higher level. I wouldn't be against this kind of hire. Frost should be at the top of the list.
  16. Poster on Scout that has connections to insiders: compta (4835) 134 months Oct 8, 7:14 AM via Mobile Reply Quote A change at the top after the season. According to those who I've spoken with, can't see a way for him to dig his way out of this hole.
  17. Name me a program that doesn't have talent coming in. Hooke was a high level recruiter at Michigan but his coaching sucked. USC always recruited elite talent before Pete Carroll was hired. 1996 John Robinson 6–6 3–5 T-5th 1997 John Robinson 6–5 4–4 T-5th 1998 Paul Hackett 8–5 5–3 T-3rd L Sun 1999 Paul Hackett 6–6 3–5 T-6th 2000 Paul Hackett 5–7 2–6 T-8th 2001 Pete Carroll 6–6 Pete won the Orange Bowl in his second season. Why? Coaching. This graph popped up on Twitter today with a clear agenda. The person two tweeted this out is a clear Riley supporter based on his Twitter history. If Riley continues to lose, and he will, he will be fired. This is Riley's 3rd year. That means players he has recruited should already be getting developed and becoming starters. When the OP is listing players that have not signed, there is an agenda.
  18. How is competing for the B1G West unrealistic? Did you read what I wrote or just read the title and assume things?
  19. This kind of analysis doesn't prove anything. All it shows is that young players are not getting developed as they enter the program. The data is also combining years of classes together (some not even signed) to try and push an agenda. You can compile 4 recruiting classes for any school and make the right column look like that.
  20. Tom Osborne was a confident man that spoke with confidence, calmness, assertiveness, he had his players attention and they bought in. When you watch Scott Frost's pressers, his pregame speeches, etc, you can see a lot of similarities. Coach Frost believes in his system. He has confidence that what he does in practice and game prep will work and his players feed off of it. He has his team bought in already and they are play some amazing football. They are sound. They play hard, They play with passion. They continue to work hard to keep improvement. Every week you can see the improvement in that team. Against Cincinnati the offense scored on every drive and had over 500 yards of offense and they didn't play a 4th quarter. I am a strong believer that Scott Frost would bring Nebraska back to it's glory. I'm not saying the will be a run like the 90's, but a contender for the B1G West every year is a realistic thing that Coach Frost can accomplish. Coach Frost doesn't recruit just to get elite talent, he recruits players that will fit his scheme. He is a scheme coach. Belichick is a scheme coach. When he gets new talent for his team he looks at what they can do for his team and if they meet a need, not just getting the big name on the market to make a splash on the team. Coach Frost is like that. He recruited a speedy running back that is undersized but when you see him on the football field, there is no way that kid wasn't good enough for an offer from bigger schools. Coach Frost leads the nation in scoring per game and he also has one of the biggest point differentials of the season. Nebraska would be stupid not to hire Coach Frost at the end of this season. If Nebraska doesn't hire him at the end of the season, there will be other P5 programs that will come calling and that will likely mean he would be gone for forever and winning big at other schools. The time is now to offer Coach Frost the Nebraska job (at season end).
