Who said Taylor paid? I believe there are NCAA rules against a University coaching a player in the off-season. There are a handful of highly sought-after quarterback gurus, and utilizing one doesn't infer failure of the OC. Not sure who paid but TM did spend time with Steve Calhoun in 2012 and 2013.

Pelini seemed to get caught up in his masterful scheme used in the Big 12 days, when there was no qb run game to worry about, and very little run game period. We played offenses who slung it around 50 times a game. we could line up 4 down, tee off, and sit 7 in coverage, after hours of film study, and know each team's every tendancy, route concept, check, and skillset. Theres so many instances in 2009 and 2010 where it's clearly obvious that each and every one of our 7 db's/backers knew what routes were coming before the snap. This made our matchup coverage like a blanket. And it wasnt bend dont break, it was shut down. Then the big ten came along and from team to team there was variety of different systems. There was spread with qb run. there was convential with power. Mobile qb's. Running qb's. New teams to get acclimated too. And for whatever reason, it seemed like the adjustment was never made. there was a tidbit about Dave Arranda (Wisconsin DC) in a think it was during the Wisconsin game about his defensive philosophy coming from the Pac12 when he was asked about transitioning to the BigTen and he was quoted as saying "you have to get a safety down the the line, and you gotta get 8-9 in the box and stop the run first and foremost. Nothing else matters if you cant stop the run" or something along those lines. This was a tenured Pac12 guy that used 3 man rush to defend wide open spreads that knew what had to be done without coaching a down in the Big10. So I'm just mind boggled by the overall lack of adjustment by our staff in 4 seasons in the new conference. amen

Not jumping on you TTRR because this has been brought up several times other places but this is a perfect example of lies, damn lies and statistics. Manning was about as bad as possible last year. That stat has been thrown out a lot as "look how good he did with Manning." But in the four years prior to last year, Manning averaged 4,226 yards, 61.5% completions, 28 TDs, 17 INTs, and a 89.6 rating. He had 4,410 yards, 63.1%, 30 TDs, 14 INTs and a 92.1 rating this year. That is, he basically returned to form after a terrible year last year. I'd say it's similar to a pitching coach in baseball that has to come in to correct a glitch after an off year.

Mike Riley has 3 years. Had we landed a big name coach with proven success there would have been more flexibility. However, we are taking a huge gamble with Riley IMHO. He does not have a history that says he deserves a benefit of the doubt. SE stated we are out to play championship football. He then hired Mike Riley. My expectations have not changed and will not change due to the previous staffs recruiting efforts or the new hire that was made. This program is at the brink....if this hire fails, it will be almost impossible to recover from. At which point our ability to spend "resources" on a proven coach may have passed us by. I hope I am wrong. Doesn't have the history? Look how he turned that program around.

Hope its a good hire. If Boyd Epply had input then it likely is. Had anyone else heard that Bo had Dobson run S&C on the honor system? It was up to the players whether to show up because they are "grown men".
