Totally different vibe this week. The players actually look fired up and ready to play as opposed to docile and sedated -

That's the thing -- they're not. The expectations for so many have lowered over the past 20 years to the point that they'll be happy with 7/8 win seasons and competing for the West. Campbell does not give us an edge over any other team in the West in any way - not for his coaching ability, not for his recruiting ability, not for his ability to "form a foundation and culture."

Does he really? I haven't seen that posted anywhere

Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph
The Scarlet Pimpernel replied to Dansker's topic in Husker Football
A knock on him down here in Louisiana is that he wasn't smart enough to be a head coach and couldn't handle all the problem solving and complex thought processes and little Xs and Os needed to be successful. Guess we'll see. -
I'm saying now that if Mickey isn't hired then he's gone. His wife would consider it a slap in the face. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Brian Kelly pursue him after seeing what he's done for us. I see people saying how *insert past HC name here* was able to get 4* kids to the Lincoln, and yes, they were able to, at times. The thing is, we have been settling for primarily 3* guys when instead we need to after primarily 4* with a few high 3* mixed in and occasional 5*. There are only a select few coaches who can lure that level of talent here. Unfortunately it's doubtful that we pursue/land any of them.

That's going to be the next conflict. If he leads us to a bowl game, there are going to be some fans who want to keep him, and others who don't. On top of that, if he doesn't get the job, Nebraska is going to be labeled as racist... his wife already has a bad taste in her mouth. For the record, I chose 7. That means he'd have to win 6 of the final 8, and it would ensure a winning season.

Payton will be coaching in the NFL again soon. The Dolphins were going to offer him a 5-year, $100-million contract. He's also technically still under contract with the Saints... not sure how that would work for us.

You know what I mean. Why would he want to go back to that? It'd kinda be a slap in the face. Just my two cents.

Mike'l Severe rant on Scott Frost
The Scarlet Pimpernel replied to 308_Husker's topic in Husker Football
I wasn't referring to the stuff that's already known. I was referring to the stuff still hidden that may or may not come out in the future. They all have stuff they try to keep hidden. Some are better at hiding than others. -
Mike'l Severe rant on Scott Frost

Truth - and they all have skeletons in their closets of one kind or another. So that being said... why are we so concerned about hiring a coach with supposed strong character and integrity? They don't exist. -
LOL I said that last year when we were recruiting him. I saw him play multiple times in HS and had him rated as the #3 HS RB in Louisiana. Why would Mickey want to go from being head coach back to coordinator? If he doesn't get the gig he's likely gone, imo.
-
There's only 1 guy who could possibly get him to come here and we all know who it is... but Trev isn't gonna offer him the job, anyway.
-
I wouldn't force a head coach to keep any coaches... heck, I'm certainly glad that Brian Kelly didn't choose to retain Mickey Joseph. That said, I'd like to think that whomever the new head coach is will recognize the guys who are doing a good job and won't hire anyone who can't do a similar/better job. My biggest concerns are 1) if Mickey doesn't get the full-time gig is that he'll leave, and all of the WRs that he landed will follow him to his next spot; and 2) if Applewhite isn't retained, Grant (if he doesn't declare for the NFL draft) and Allen will follow him.
-
I think we have a good bit of talent... depending on who we hire, I think we can lure much more and have a quick turnaround. If MJ is given the job, I expect an influx of southern kids who are familiar with him to make the move. If Meyer is hired, our recruiting will immediately take off. Hire one of those middle of the road guys, like Campbell or Klieman or Leipold, and I expect things to improve, but at a slower pace.
-
...and I'd target them both. Doesn't mean they'll come, but I'd definitely try.

He can let Mickey come along with him on recruiting visits
