Garret McGuire Hired as Wide Receivers Coach
Dogs In A Pile replied to Mavric's topic in Husker Football
Yep. Considering all the angst, hand wringing, doubts and dislike voiced by many when he was hired I'd say he is working out quite nicely. The feedback from players and recruits alike has been over the moon positive. Imagine that, Matt Rhule had a better handle on his hire that anonymous message board posters. Shocking. -

I'd rather have a #25 ranked class if it consists of kids that really want to be here and succeed along with a staff that will develop them as opposed to a #15 ranked class that consists of kids with a lot of baggage that don't really want to be here along with a staff that fails at development. -

An interview with one of the greatest Huskers of all time. Well worth the 4 minute listen. -

I don't care if he wears a toga as long as he can get the program turned around. -

Although they seemed perfectly normal at the time it is hard to get over how enormous the shoulder pads were back in the day compared to the modern version. -

I'd take his 44-27 record over NU's 23-42 record over the last 6 years. -
A lot of great matchups there that I will be tuning into. Looking at those it's no wonder the B1G media contract is through the roof.

I wonder if the staff knew about this or not. It will be interesting to see how it is handled.

I have high hopes for this team going into the season. That being said, I wouldn't be too surprised if we are 2-4 after the first 6 games. -
Hopefully our new coach won't do something as asinine as attempting an onside kick after just scoring 2 TD's in 28 seconds, going up by 11 and capturing the momentum.

Herbie's Hangout - Analysis of Colorado Scholarship Players -
We certainly could use an infusion of talent. Looking at Athlon Sports all B1G preseason projections almost makes me want to cry when I see how far we have fallen. No players from the offense in the 3 deep projections and only 1 second (Reimer) and 1 third (Newsome) from the defense. Hoping for (but not expecting) a breakout season which would certainly give a big boost to their recruiting efforts. Only so much you can do when the last time we had a winning season was when the kids they are recruiting were in grade school.

Cool. We're already lining up excuses.

IMHO, this kind of star rating for transfers is absolutely worthless since they were based on their evaluation from high school. If they were based on their performance during their college careers that would be worth looking at.

He had offers from offers from USC, Utah, Oregon State, Arizona State and Virginia. We need bodies on the OL for next season so probably worth a look.

I have no inside info but IMHO it was effort/attitude. After seeing the video that was posted where Allen totally ignored his position coach during a drill in spring ball and was subsequently kicked out of the drill the writing was on the wall. Allen came here because of Applewhite and apparently didn't mesh well with the new staff. The lack of mentions from the coaches while others were praised kind of raised a red flag to me.

Hope not. I hate those early games. Only bright spot is maybe the crowd wouldn't be quite so fired up. Need to get up early in the game and take the crowd out of it. Hopefully, they'll refrain from throwing batteries etc. at the players, coaches, officials and other people on the field this time around. -

The people that were allowed down on the field at Aviva Stadium in Dublin said it was the most immaculately manicured field they had ever seen. Like a putting green the size of a soccer field.
