  1. Maybe that is why he waited until now to make the announcement? Maybe waiting on a school to say they will take him with or without a waiver?
  2. I understand the uncertainty but Betts eligibility shouldn't be too much of a worry right now and shouldn't make KJ's commitment to Iowa any more or less important. The team will be fine and hopefully KJ is happy wherever he ultimately signs.
  3. Betts is in. (Relaxed admissions standards ). Nothing to indicate Manning won't be in as well at this point. Remember, the whole nation is depending on online classes right now. The point of the "haul" comments is that we signed several receivers last class, many of whom were highly sought after. Therefore, it is okay to be optimistic that we may have depth at the position now and missing out on one recruit shouldn't sour the whole group.
  4. I wouldn't read into it too much, most of us felt invincible around that time in our lives. Happy for him and hope he finds individual success wherever he goes. That said, I hope Iowa's peak during his tenure is a couple Pinstripe Bowl runs mixed with a Belk Bowl appearance and four losses to DONU.
  5. Bingo, winning is the only step left that the program needs to get back on track. Remember, this is the golden era of Iowa football with their 8-5 W-L average the past ten years (9-3 past five). Them winning a couple head to heads with recruits is expected during this period.
  6. I'm afraid we will have to disagree as you are spinning comments to fit your narrative. KJ is a good receiver, he will likely do well at Iowa. That said, we have numerous good receivers in the program and therefore, we do not need to panic. KJ would be a nice addition to the class but not one who the staff placed all their bets on (Foster Sarell, Darnay Holmes, Bookie, etc.) I'm flattered, thank you.
  7. I think KJ is a good talent but given our haul last class, we aren't in desperate need at his spot. Wish him the best but not a dagger to the program or morale. Hopefully he's the last from the metro going to Iowa City for awhile.
  8. Probably a mix of both. The whole family had a bitter taste after his brothers were passed over for the flashy recruitment of West coast receivers who didn't pan out or never showed up. We stocked up with some talented receivers last class so KJ would be a good addition but not necessarily a must get for the staff this year. Good for him if he thinks Iowa is a better fit. I don't see this being as big of a hit to the program confidence as some of our previous in-state misses.
  9. I get a feeling that he will not end up there. They are on a tear the past week though. Best medicine for us is to get back to winning and a lot of these problems will start falling in our favor.
  10. I think the answer to solve that is something we can all agree on... the bubble screen.
  11. It is possible we fail to make a bowl but with all spring & summer to evaluate and adjust, the staff should be in better position to get creative knowing who is coming back and who isn't going to be here. Last year, Hunt and Legrone were expected to be two of the larger bodied receivers on the team and their suspensions left a clear size void. Hunt was listed as the projected starter all summer. With the influx of redshirts and newcomers, I think the team is more well-positioned to handle attrition though JD back would be a huge boost.
  12. Though maybe not draft worthy, I think he would find a foothold on almost any NFL team. Numerous undrafted players made it work as a receiver: Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, Cole Beasley, Adam Thielen, Doug Baldwin as well our own Stanley Morgan. As JD is 23 years old, if this is possibly an NFL-related absence it is understandable if he decides to go that route and max out his chances for years in the league. If instead it is a transfer consideration, I would be disappointed. Otherwise, I can't blame him for taking the leave of absence to consider things.
  13. Good point though hindsight is always 20/20. Would more due diligence have helped? Maybe? It is easy to put blame back on the coaches after the fact but no one would have said a word if the guy turned out to be an upstanding citizen to society after signing. That said, there proved to be a pattern of off the field issues going on. Add in lawsuits and a struggling program and it isn't an unreasonable decision for Dantonio to take his money and run.
  14. So far it's been job offers to parents of a recruit but the source is his former shady director of recruiting so there could be some legitimacy to the accusations with that insider knowledge.
  15. Former recruiting director filed claim with NCAA stating the program violated several recruiting rules. Several legal issues with bad off field player behavior and his administration being less than 100% supportive of the coach or staff in the media.
  16. Mark Dantonio has decided to step down at Michigan State (source). He received a $4.3 million longevity bonus on Jan. 15th. Given all the drama going on around East Lansing, doesn't seem too surprising but the timing is definitely less than ideal. Could be a rough decade for Sparty ahead with the timing and all the issues they're facing.
  17. This entire thread is subjective. What is "nationally relevant" to me might differ from what you consider to be "nationally relevant". Could it take ten or more years to win a title? Possibly. Could it take ten or more years to finish in the top 10? Maybe... though I'd bet we will be there within 2-3 years.
  18. Could have been intentional, the ESPN writer (Paula Lavigne) has a strong focus on sexual assault on college campuses as one of the topics in her wheelhouse. I'd be surprised if local media had access to the comprehensive story versus maybe just whispers/rumors. Local media would put themselves in a tough spot if they report or misrepresent a part of the story without being fully informed. Local writer could hurt future access to program, players & coaches if erroneous or excessive in reporting details. Similar to why trade rumors, coach firings, etc. are often publicized by national outlets ("Woj bomb" in the NBA, Schefter with NFL) before they are published by local beat reporters.
  19. San Diego State was his first offer but otherwise we appear to be the big name team pursuing.
  20. Could be any number of sources for the details. I think you're right on this not being over. There is probably some shady area where she may have consented to activity A but not to parts B, C, etc. Not a good look for anyone involved
  21. Negative, are you referring to police sharing the information with the university athletic department or the university's banning of the two players as the leak? My personal hunch is that it's a complicated situation where the victim proved to be very trustworthy from the start and her word carried more weight than the players differing accounts.
  22. My understanding is that she notified the police first who quickly informed the coaching staff & admins about the issue. As far as the criminal charges part, she may be working through those options and weighing pros/cons as she would likely be exposed publicly.
  23. Actually, she did. Based on that article (the only info available to us right now), it was stated that she didn't want that contact she received and told Hunt so before even arriving at the apartment. Her immediate reaction after the event was to report it to the police. She didn't run to the media or file a lawsuit before reporting to the police... to me, that indicates that she felt violated. Based on the football staff's immediate action, they clearly thought there was enough smoke to suspend both players.
  24. Doesn't really matter what she texted or who she called. She said no. The fact that she reported it to police immediately after is a pretty surefire sign that she didn't want what happened to happen. Was she dumb for going? Probably should've thought it through more as to what exactly she expected to do there but still doesn't excuse the players.
  25. Their line did well on three big runs and did a decent job in pass protection. After that first quarter though, our defense (especially d-line) was dominant in keeping them at bay especially in the run game. At only 55 yards passing and a pick going into Iowa's final drive, Stanley didn't appear to be too much of a threat either. That said, you are correct that we did not get home very often to lay a finger on Stanley.
