  1. Cam has great feet and is pretty aggressive. Even Sichterman seems to block better when he pulls for whatever reason- maybe its me. He just doesn't have much bend when he's pass blocking.
  2. One would have thought that Minny learned their lesson with Glenn Mason. A very good coach who could consistently get them to Bowl games and winning records- they fired him. If PJ can sustain what Jerry Kill established- they should be happy.
  3. Correct. I would just like to see less of the IZ plays and more of the outside wham, option and powers or Gs with guards pulling. Even counter trey. The non inside zone plays seem to be a good bit more effective than IZ.
  4. True. Coaching is about philosophy, strategy, scheme, management, communication, player evaluation, on field analysis/adjustments and teaching ability. Then Adapting your approach a bit based on the ingredients/players you have available in order to maximize your end equation. Not everyone has the same ability to teach and that is broken down into what to teach, how to teach it and how to get the most out of your practice time- effectiveness and efficiency. If your group isn't effective over the long haul it's a you problem- not a circumstances issue. Interestingly enough we have seen steady progress every year with Chins group.
  5. I get it. However if Martinez hits Allen in stride, he has the 8 yards pretty easily. There was room.
  6. No doubt our Oline isn't giving AM much help. However it's on AM to get rid of the ball quickly when he sees an open receiver. In this clip Austin Allen a 6'9" target is in his line of sight- wide open on a crossing route and AM does not throw- takes a sack instead. The pocket isn't going to be clean for 5 seconds AM- There are too many of these and yes as always we LOVE AM- great kid, works hard- gives us best chance to win etc etc
  7. Fair enough. None of us doubt his competitiveness or his desire to win. Hate to play amateur Psychologist but I will. SF has faced some real challenges at NU from way back. He came to campus wearing his Stanford jacket and got his a$$ kicked in practice by his "teammates". He persevered through that. He was anointed QB and struggled out of the gate, got booed and criticized. He stayed the course and ended up prevailing. THen in just his second year as a HC- we wins a "national championship" with a team that had gone winless. He has been conditioned to think he's right, stay the course, ignore the critics. That has worked for him. His arrogance was on full display even early on and we applauded him for it, myself included. Even his mentor Coach Osborne faced a little bit of this and stayed his course too- and succeeded. Will he be willing to humble himself and really significantly change the way he coaches and approaches things? Will he be able to really give up his play calling duties and just stick to play design which he seems to be very good at? Can he flip his approach to coaching so it includes some accountability? Can he be an effective CEO? I don't know. I hope so.
  8. Fair enough. Allen is a Captain right? He and Cam seem to be playing well on offense. Defense, there has to be several. Doman, Reimers, Stille? No truly off the charts dominant players- but good players who play really hard and aren't making a ton of mistakes. But yeah they have to be a bit of a badass and I know little of their personalities.
  9. The net is- the things that are wrong- are structural issues that have been consistently bad over the course of 4 years. They aren't the type of thing that usually get's fixed with a few tweaks. I'm a fan, go to the games, I'm looking for a reason to be hopeful. The maybe if we do this, maybe if we do that- just need more time, need to shore up this position group etc and we're ok- I've gone through all that to get some hope about my beloved Huskers. Yes, we've been close to winning all these games- but that's been the case for FOUR YEARS. Same issues every season with the exception of the defense. The Special Teams, Red Zone scoring, offensive line, penalties, poor clock management and poor play calling in the crunch- I'm not sure we get solved. Frost is 1-13 when faced with the chance for the offense to win or tie the game on the last drive of the game. His clock management and game management make him look like someone that just isn't good in the clutch- when heady play and calmness prevail. You wouldn't think someone with his background would be that way- but he is unfortunately. How does anyone explain that away? Until this season we have been way upside down with turnovers also. The mindset that we are going to win with offense and the no fear of failure thing that breeds sloppy play just isn't going to work in the BIG. I'm not calling for Frost to be fired- but I'm not confident at all he will turn things around. It's a longshot and I hope he's able to somehow go 6-6 and survive. BUT long term to be successful- Frost would have to have a real change of heart and be open to a lot of change- and he hasn't shown that he's that type of guy.
  10. Would be a HUGE mistake overlooking Northwestern. Yes, they haven't looked good and have QB issues- that hasn't mattered in the past. Fitz is a very good coach, he gets every last drop out of his team. Expect him to play close to the vest on offense. They usually play great defense and good special teams. He just wants to be close in the fourth. They will be patient and just wait for NU to make our typical mistakes- let us beat ourselves. When it comes to Special Teams- don't be surprised if he takes a few chances, onside kick, fake field goal, fake punt etc. He won't be respecting our offense or ability to score- so why not? IIRK- didn't Fitz onside kick and recover against a Frost coached team in the past?
  11. The deal is- whatever the HC is involved with- the perception is that it is very important- a priority and it gets its fair share of resources and practice time. Im guessing that helped Bo a bit when it came to Special Teams.
  12. Left guard is getting manhandled a lot, no wonder Frost is pissed . Second play of game and our TD run by AM, very similar plays. at 44:27 here. In second play of game TE pulls behind LOS to outside wham or if not there to LB. On second play of game LG blown up so bad- the ball carrier can't get there we get nothing. Here AM is deep enough that he can avoid the pileup. In any event the LG is getting owned.
  13. Yes, fine line. However player accountability within the team worked pretty well at one time. The Peter Bros and Wistrom had a code thing going on that seemed to work for those teams?
  14. Yes, he called out LG and RT- so Piper/Hixson and Benhardt
  15. Benhardt and Sichterman being called out I like it Move Teddy to RT or LT and move a T inside
  16. Just watch the full play- right guard pulls
  17. Wish they would run more of this type of run concept. RG pulls to kickout EMLOS- allows 2 players to get to LB level. Yes, just 5 yards, but better than 3 on our typical IZ plays and stay ahead of the chains on first down. Sichterman doesnt do too bad when he pulls.
  18. Great play by AM here. Benhart gets OWNED like a 140 lb 18 year old with nice features and a pretty mouth in prison/ Sichterman gets beat- but hangs on with a nice tackle aka HOLD. AM squares his shoulders nicely and in this case yes, he didnt have an early target
  19. Youre right- his feet are set- he has plenty of time and good line of sight. He should have tossed it before he scrambled- not happy feet. It's first down, first play of the game. Your best receiver is open for a modest gain- TAKE IT
  20. First offensive snap. Clean pocket- looking right at Toure for a nice 6-7 yard gain. Instead he gets happy feet- sacked.
  21. For his career, he’completing 45.2% inside an opponent’s 20. This season, it’s 30.8%. From OWH- AM is completing 45% of this passes in the Red Zone. This season it's 31%. NU ranks over 100 in Red Zone efficiency on offense- consistently over 100 under HCSF
  22. Matt got his butt chewed by Coach Frost during the game. Maybe he's turning over a new leaf. Haven't heard a peep about Bando since he got sick and was supposedly in the mix for playing time.
