  1. I heard you the first time. THe new o-line and Yant are batting 1000 Destroyed a team we were supposed to beat by 10 by almost 50 points. That was without any pick 6s or easy scores or lots of turnovers. We only punted ONCE Thank goodness the coaching staff figured out they didnt have the right mix in and were going to hold kids accountable. So far- so good. Tempering the no fear of failure junk.
  2. The new O-line and Yant have only had the one opportunity- not 35 or whatever the number is. They are 1 for 1 right now, in rather dominating fashion. AM played a very good game, I'm hoping he continues like he did against NW.
  3. Good observation. Interesting- some aren't giving the Oline or Yant much credit because it was "Northwestern" but that same tempering doesn't exist with them when talking about Martinez .
  4. The DE squeezes hard- closes ground on the QB immediately- no feathering, it's a pitch read all the way and early. Fake is going away. The spacing on Frosts version of the triple is very big, so not as much need to press/attack into the unblocked edge defender at all- he's not going to be able to get to the pitch man- not Betts anyways.
  5. Yes, our Oline coach was really awful. Early in my coaching career- with little power. Young guy- older guy coaching Oline. That off season I learned how to coach the OLine and it was MUCH better the following season as I got more control and made that my position group.
  6. RB got jumpy and ahead of himself. He's not supposed to set up that wide or shallow. Got to give the big guys a chance to block for you- which he did'nt. Nice play by our unblocked defender in space. Excellent burst and angle.
  7. In the direct sight line of the referee who is only a few yards away. BIG officials and their reluctance to call Offensive holding penalties when we are on defense- has been very consistent. Ridiculous.
  8. When a dad is harping on how bad the opponent is to make it look better for his son just isn't good. FORDHAM wasn't better than Northwestern and we struggled to move the ball consistently against FORDHAM. We didn't dominate BUFFALO either ILLINOIS has only won a single game- against us- Nebraska until last week against Charolette College- or Emily College- I cant remember who they beat. So don't rail against the competition- that isn't valid unless you want to talk about our struggles against Illinois, FORDHAM and Buffalo- teams worse than Northwestern. Benhardt looked horrible against MSU, he got manhandled. Positions are earned, and that success is rented, you have to put in the work. OTHERS deserve their chance and guess what- it looked pretty darned impressive compared to what weve seen. Earn it back or change positions.
  9. If the read was the top of the screen first and it looks like it is- then AM should have thrown it. Receiver was past the sticks and had a 4 yard cushion at the break. Protection was there early.
  10. Iowa- it's an odd deal. Like the team- don't get their silly fans. I worked the entire state for a good number of years, lived in DM. Great spots, Dubque, Iowa City/CR/Amanas in the fall. Great people, hard working etc. Lived in DM during our crushing dominating time- 94-97. Yes they were very jealous, covetous and even a little hateful. Even though we weren't really playing much. I didn't care what the Hawks were doing-never crossed my mind. Now we are in the BIG- I totally respect and admire the job they've done. They aren't great but they get quite a bit out of the talent that they do have. Appreciate the development, good fundamentals, good defense, coaching, special teams etc. Some of their fans are real jackwagons- but I've never been one that is jealous or covetous of what success others have-if anything learn from it, admire it. So I overlook those low information- green eyed jealous fans (sorry if I offended anyones feelings using those accurately descriptive words) and give Iowa football a well deserved tip of my cap.
  11. This may end up being the case. With Bolt and Childress and the totally under appreciated recruiting hotbed that is Nebraska. Doesn't hurt that much of the BIG doesn't take baseball seriously or invest much in it.
  12. I hear you. What I saw was- Michigan was really aware of the screen- got penetration then retreated on the fly to snuff out the screen. They are really- really good. That's funny and some real truth to what you're saying. I was OC on a team once with a horrific, tiny, terrible Oline. The only play we were consistently good at was the screen- not blocking defensive linemen was something that team had perfected and could have taught classes on. I think several ended up moving to Mexico and becoming great OLE bullfighters later in life
  13. Nice thought- makes sense. However we just havent run much in the way of screens this season so far. Its a lot tougher play to pull off than many think. You would think it would work. Wisconsin tried- and was snuffed out the only time I saw them try it. Michigan is really well coached. I wasnt able to watch every snap of the Wisconsin- Michigan game- but the one I saw was unsuccessful.
  14. OK Bill Clinton. You said he has really gotten coached up since last year. Lots of us wonder- where was that development before if it happened so well in this off season? Did Coach V read a new book or figure out some new drills? What was so different this off season than the previous 2 that saw a literal regression in AMs skills?
  15. Hes bent because son not starting. Claimed double standard. BUT as it seems, the new oline lineup did REALLY well without him and when the son got in- he false started on his first snap. The results are the results.
  16. So was AM not coached up the previous 2 years? Was Verduzco too busy doing his opera, harry potter routine?
  17. Screens help also- which we dont have. Sometimes the QB draw can hit big. RJ is a nice blocker out of the backfield. One thing HCSF is pretty good at is play design. Hitting short passes in vacated areas works too. Hopefully he can dial them up at the right time. UNFORTUNATELY- Michigan is pretty good at giving a blitz look- then backing out of at at the snap. They are a really tough out when it comes to their defense. They are also a bit random- was trying to do the - what will they do- what would I do playcalling thing- it was tough. AND they also get plenty of pressure with just 4 rushing.
  18. Very true. Most of us thought we would do better than we have- but it wasn't like it was the mid 90s and we were mauling everyone. It was wait and see- but with some confidence we would consistently be vying for Division titles. Just not in a dominating fashion. In BASEBALL - some may have had that thought, but not football.
  19. If you havent seen Michigans defense- they are REALLY good and extremely well coached. QB draws help but we need a screen game to slow them down- which we dont have. Our defense will do well. Offensive wise- it is going to be quite the challenge.
  20. People get on Harbaugh- he's a different guy. But at the end of the day, he really loves football and Michigan, hes good for the game. I met him doing a private Coaching Clinic at Schembeckler Hall for a group that had connections a few years back. He was in the complex on a Sunday- not part of the clinic and walked in on our field demo. He insisted on working with the kids and then got us all a cool tour of the lockerroom and then the dining room. Then the only 2 things you could drink was water and milk. He was gracious and very kind. He is a lover and defender of the game and I'm a fan- with the exception of this coming Saturday. He's a genuine guy- generous to a fault and good for the game. Would love to see him finally get OSU off his back.
  21. Tickets are cheap- get in the stadiums are $35 and 50 Yard liners are only $80. Definitely worth thinking about.
  22. RJ has improved But THIS is the definition of a shoe string- ankle type tackle.
  23. Another of Yants running through tackles. TRUCKS the MLB one on one.
  24. You do what you want to do and I will do the same. On a positive note a HIGHLIGHT if you will- this is an issue no one really identified here- that looks like it is now being addressed. A football Xs and Os thing some who follow that kind of stuff might find interesting. Would be interesting to see if HCSF was working on this- with the Oline thanks to input from locals Stai and Dish- Stai and Dish are good friends. . Or I guess we can bury our heads in the sand and rehash some other things that have been already rehashed many many times over.
