  1. Toughness! https://www.inquirer.com/philly/sports/colleges/temple/20160830_Jensen__Coach_Matt_Rhule_took_unique_path_to_Temple_football_job.html?outputType=amp “They Call Me Assassin”. One of coach Rhule’s favorite books growing up. https://www.amazon.com/THEY-STILL-CALL-ASSASSIN-Again/dp/096235791X/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1EOB7TOIKJM5X&keywords=jack+tatum&qid=1681956423&sprefix=jack+tat%2Caps%2C137&sr=8-3
  2. HERBIE IS MUCH TOO CLEAN! If we're going to instill grittiness and true mental toughness around here, some things have got to change. Needs to have a smudge of grease on his face and a scratch on his cheek. Overalls have dirt and grease on them and torn. He’s holding a wrench with dirty, oily hands from penetrating oil and has a scrapped knuckle from where the wrench slipped. Incorporate some sweat and blood. The guy has a spritely, determined, accomplished look on his face like he’s gone through and won a battle on the farm repairing the planter, combine or some other piece of heavy equipment successfully and undeterred. For good measure, maybe he's even eating from a bag of popcorn.
  3. It’s unlikely we’ll see a whole lot of it. It’s another thing opponents would have to prepare for. Possibly sprinkle some in here and there as the season progresses when it’s not expected…
  4. Wouldn’t be surprised at all to see some incorporated in.
  5. You got something against OLD guys?
  6. The car salesman didn't have a shared vision or know how to develop a winning culture. Practices have to occur prior to games not during them. Proclaiming "This is Nebraska" and "I love these guys" and "I'll go to battle with so and so" while not adhering to standards that are expected of the team produced the results (or lack thereof) for far too long.
  7. Interesting...You envision the defense more than the offense being a concern early on. We definitely have to win the line of scrimmage. We're in agreement, it will take some time for development. Consistency should improve as the season goes along. Hopefully we'll be able to sustain drives to take pressure off the defense. We have to have a the run game there. As you say, we'll have to have it. It remains to be seen. Dang, I sure hope there's improvement to the offensive line performances.
  8. You don't have everyone doing the very same things! It has to be tailored to the position and individual players. The one size fits all approach doesn't work. It has to be individualized. Like accuracy first, then speed, technique first then higher weights. Technique not only is about how it's done but the speed in which it's done and when. And, flexibility has to be incorporated along with strength. The two work together. It'll be interesting to see how the changes translate to on field performances. Dynamic exercises help too. Maybe we won't have statues out there but players that can actually move and react more fluidly.
  9. How does a player trust a coach that doesn't know that he (the player) isn't delivering his best? That's his obligation to you, to help you be your best and contribute what you have to offer. A never-ending discovery process. It's earned through what he consistently demonstrates on your behalf. And, how does a coach trust a player but through the actions he demonstrates on a consistent basis. When both are acting in their and each other's interest there is trust! It's the foundation of the relationship, really the team. Not anyone's ego but caring, being earnestly interested. Authentic with who you are coach and player. You have to have accountability while being genuinely interested in the player as a person. And, the actions of the coach and his staff helps to determine the team's culture having accountability. We have standards, not rules that the team adheres to because there is a purpose to the standards, not because someone charged with leading you told you so. We have standards in order to WIN and winning is FUN. And, having fun is the reward for doing what is required for winning. The more playing is fun, the more success the team experiences. There's got to be a shared vision. Cohesiveness. Discipline, beginning with what's demonstrated by the coaches. Real competitiveness, not just practicing. Doing the things that are done in games. All of it including physical contact. Learning occurs as a consequence of playing games though games are not practice! Playing fundamentally sound. Having attention to detail. Making change constant. Everyone discovering and delivering their BEST.
  10. I think there's some reasons for pause. There are depth and experience issues for sure. Coach Rhule has to work with what he's got and then bring the offense around to what he's wanting more and more. It's not just about continuously getting better but bringing out the best in each player whatever "that" is for making their contributions. I think they're doing a good with addressing that. The defense should be pretty solid and only improve as the season progresses. It'll probably carry the team for the most part. Look for the offense to be more aggressive with improved cohesion running effectively and hopefully being able to capitalize with the TE's. I'm sure it'll improve as the season goes on too as other contributors gain more experience. I think that 5-6 wins is a realistic expectation. A bit more enjoyable than what we've come accustomed to. We should have a good deal of more experienced speed on offense heading into 2024. The receiving core looks promising. We've really needed to do better having experienced depth. They're doing a number of things to address that so as many contributors are available to get on the field in all areas adding some versatility. Then minimize errors, have a good kicking game and a productive special teams. Keep building adding pieces. Get to the bowl game. The O-line remains a question mark. It'd be helpful to add some depth there if possible. Will be interesting how the QB situation plays out. It seems that they are aiming for an active, imposing offense. How well we can stretch the field to complement play along the line of scrimmage remains to be seen how it might materialize. That's where some limitation for the moment might be an issue due to inexperience. It could be a little rough this year with some limitations though there should be cause for for encouragement with some real momentum heading into next season the potential there to be very good and, a lot more fun. I don't think that the cohesiveness has been there and the staff is putting effort into having a shared vision for the team. A great many things have been improved which will translate into winning. Accountability, togetherness, being disciplined. Those sorts of things.
  11. Not really. That's true. Each story, all experiences are all different and unique. Lots of nuances. I appreciate that you consider different possibilities.
  12. There must be abuser activist groups where people attend to deny the reality of domestic violence and the potential severe outcomes of it. These were serious charges. We can only hope that what transpired that day and any other irregularities in their relationship have in fact effectively been addressed by both. And, whatever possible conduct on Mickey Joseph's part or behavioral issues he might have are in the process of being confronted head on in the interest of everyone. Particularly the family's children. We say that we value accountability. To have a culture where people are safe, are free to achieve their best and contribute. Actions bringing physical harm to others, trauma and anything threatening the welfare of others, if true, should always have consequences. No exceptions. There are complexities for sure. I assume nothing. I just don't want to later learn that a death occurred or someone has to endure the affects of having gone through ongoing traumatic experiences when, it could have been prevented.
  13. What a shrew. Interesting how you show up to this topic…Rarely if ever do I see you participating elsewhere here. No apologies from me.
  14. Making statements like that does cause a dopamine hit. Lol I can appreciate what you’re saying though!
  15. I think Allen comes around. Not to minimize his actions or rather inaction the other day. It's just part of the process. He's certainly got the talent. Now he's got to work on the mental aspect of his game. I think he and Ervin will be battling for the lead back. He (Gabe) has had limited opportunity. There were opportunities that he missed receiving the ball on the outside too where there were other open receivers. He'll be making better cuts. They have the highest ceilings. Johnson likely contributes as well. Quite versatile. Anthony Grant has work to do and needs to pick it up.
  16. Hopefully he knows his coverages better than many agents and doesn't drop the ball when team members are counting on him.
  17. Word is that being a cowboy was a secret aspiration for both Sanders and Rhule.
  18. Been hearing good things on Singleton for some time now. Sounds like he's poised to do well!
  19. There were failures on so many levels. For all the talk about culture, that was among the worst in my opinion. A winning one can't be established if the leadership isn't living by the standards themselves. And you've got to be yourself whatever "it" is. Individuals in organizations can relate with what's real. It seemed to me that Scott Frost was attempting an identity shift as odd as that might be. No matter what one thinks of his personality, he didn't seem to be the coach that he was at UCF. His organization lacked commitment, enthusiasm and competence. Offered lots of excuses. Didn't have the answers or establish a shared vision for his team.
  20. Gotta turn up the heat. No half baked efforts. There’s no kindness in a coach not demanding everyone’s best for the team.
  21. Guess we'll find out if he's got cattle to go along with his hat.
  22. There were a few deluded accounts during the coaching search that's for sure!
