  1. All good points but the bottom line is you have to win too. This isn't Kansas or Missouri. We have always been able to produce good if not great scholar athletes. That was already happening. The recruit thing is also overblown and overated. Besides, our great recruit class 2 yrs ago... over half of them have left. The thing about recruiting is perception often trumps reality. So if you recruit great teams on paper and it doesn't show in the record... ppl start looking at the staff. That in the deed stuff is fine and dandy and great candy to eat... still the bottomline is wins and losses. That is what your program is measured by in the long run. I know Stevo has said its not nessarily the record that he goes by... still it isn't that way with the fans. We've seen too many champions and kinda know what it looks like now. I think the fans know hey we lose 5 games a yr... we won't be rated. So get us to that phase at least and then lets talk extention. We can always go get somebody who can recruit and put together a decent staff and system. Just like we found Bill. We can always get someone who will continue the fine academic record. We need someone to also take us to that next level too.
  2. KU game I thought Callahan called a magnificent game. Coz was schooled though in that 2nd half. KU made adjustments after half and found some things that worked. Biggest in my mind being that little counter that Cornish kept cutting back on. We never did quite adjust to it. Then they had the gall to pass off that look with a 3rd string QB. Cally and Taylor just used that poor CB on the left side. In the OSU game, didn't we like have corners with casts on and linebackers limping around? We looked mighty slow that game and didn't do a good job on the perimeter me thinks. Cory Mac was just coming back from a sprain ankle. Rudd and Bradley were slowed by minor ailments. Isn't that the game where we lost Dillard too? If I remember correctly, we didn't have Octo as well. Still no excuse for the low scoring second half. Offensive struggled with consistency that game if memory serves me right.
  3. Does anyone think he will get kicked off the team if he does get a conviction? I mean we are only talking misdemeanors. May get fines and probation unless he has a ugly previous record. I see a 2-3 game suspension maybe. Possibly more depending on what facts come out in the case. I can see them taking his face off the picture though. Not poster boy material right now.
  4. A little of both. Good luck that Davidson was in the right spot. I mean who knows how a ball will travel especially after it has hit something. Also great skill on Davidson's part. I mean the ball was that close to hitting the ground. He made a great heads up play there and really ... we seen him make quite a few heads up plays for us during his career. I still think Wiggins kicking the ball was more reaction than intention.
  5. Ya gotta wait a least a yr. Lets see what happens this yr. Its not like we have been setting the world on fire yet. Ranked once in the last 3 yrs and barely at that. We need to see more improvement I think before we start talking extention. No NU coach has averaged 5 losses in his first 3 yrs going back to 1960. No matter who's recruits you had. At least a yr. Lose 5 again and you wait another yr too.
  6. Depth...big concern. Its imparative we stay healthy. Especially in def. backfield.
  7. I voted for appearance. Shades of Groucho Marx!!! The fact he doesn't come off as a huge Husker backer, make him more appealing to me. No one in the region covers the big XII like he does. Go to any conf. school area and you will catch my drift when you pick up their local papers. Don't sugacoat my Huskers. If they stink it up say so. If they look like worldbeaters say that too. I think thats what he does. No he isn't right all the time when stating opinions, no writer is. At least he will say so when it warrants it and he holds nothing back. That I respect.
  8. Wake I think should be a concern. First of all its on the road. Don't let me remind ppl of our road record in the BC era so far. Its not what one could call stellar although we improved on the road last season. Then there is the OSU factor. The Pokes. Are they as good as Wake? I also don't have to remind you what they did to us last season on the road. Or Mizzou and KU the yr before. Thirdly the USC factor. That game is the next week after. We can't get caught looking ahead. Next is the well they lost some defenders. Yeah 3 DBs and a LB. Aren't we returning even less though? Bottomline is Wake improved vastly last season (didn't they like win their conf. or was darn close?). They lost their bowl game and vowed they would be better this yr. We don't want to be just another team in their way on their merry march to respectability. Which is another issue. They will no doubt be ranked whereas we aren't quite sure if we open up ranked. Lets don't forget, we weren't at end of last season. We could very well be underdogs that day. No way we look at them lightly. They aren't the same Deacons we seen last time. They return plenty on offense and defense to be a major player. They won't be as young and this time they will be expecting to win. Not just show up and give a good game. I think we will have the makings of a barnburner of a game this time around.
  9. New approach, attitude ths time around. No more measuring stick thinking by staff. No more trying to keep it close thinking either. Put it to em early and often and make them play catch up. This is a big opportunity to be mentioned with the best out there. Lets take full advantage and win going away just like they did last yr in L.A.
  10. Bottomline... No matter what actually transpired. Who started it... who fault is whos... You broke team rules. Got drunk... got into a fight... spent a drunken night in jail. I'm sure the guys have repeatedly been warned about staying out of situations like this. Some type of punishment is in order me thinks. No matter the outcome in the eyes of the law.
  11. Win the division again of course. Be nice to win the conference but I don't think it is a must. We do need to improve upon a 5 loss season. Need to make a bowl, win that and make sure we are ranked at the end. So be ranked once again at the end is my biggest expectation. We wern't last yr and barely the yr before.
  12. It was Hybl. Was hit as he was delivering the ball by that DE that played on the otherside of Thomas. Can't remember his name, the big guy. It was borderline late as many Sooner fans will testify. Always felt White was hurt on a play he as scrambling on before he actually left the game. He was smacked pretty good along the sidelines and when he got up he looked pale as a ghost and testing his knee a lil. On the play when he left the game, no one hit hit him. He kinda landed funny as he made a cut on the sidelines while throwing the ball. I still think Hybl played the rest of that game with a concussion. The hit was on a block though. Fonoti put a pancake on Calmus then jumped on top of him afterwards that made me laugh. Calmus got up complaining to refs. This was right after he alledgedly tugged on our PRet ankle causing some strife. Game was rough all right. A instant classic (thinking about the Heisman play where Crouch caught the dbl reverse pass).
  13. Enjoy fellas... (this shows the Tatum/White hit 2 times in a row) http://www.metacafe.com/watch/37869/footballs_biggest_hits/
  14. Two come to mind for me. Miami LB John Vilma unloading on one of our recievers in the Rose Bowl. The other was Crouch and Reed going mano to mano along the sidelines in the same game. Both got up and laughed at each other. One of my favorite NFL hits is the 76 Superbowl when Oak Saf Jack Tatum blindsided Minn. WR Sammy White in the back after a catch and Sammy's helmet flew about 10 yds (how did he hang onto that ball?). Then again there's Dick Butkus. If you are old enough to remember seeing him play... you seen hits like these every game.
  15. I seen Iggy cuss out the whole So. Miss st. visitor side stands a few yrs ago. And think, Cally got heat for his hillbillies comments...ahem. Iggy was ready to take on sections of fans that night. On ESPN too. Of course he was dominating that night. They hated him. Probably his best game at least that I can remember. Iggy was suspended for spring ball and summer workouts if I remember correctly. Something about beating up a whole party. At least anyone that dared to step up and stop him. Wasn't the rumor that he threw someone through a wall? Something about someone using the "N" word when addressing his buddy. Now there's a NFL prospect. Can ya get him to use it (rage-fire-desire) to his advantage instead of disadvantage and put it somewhere until really needed? There lies his future. When he beat up a teamate that next fall (as much as the school will not confirm or deny... they never really came out said what happened), he was dismissed. Didn't he try to like beg his way back too? He needed at babysitter. Or his momma close by. Bet he doesn't act like that with Momma around...
  16. Didn't we have some pkgs last with a 3-4 look last yr? We didn't use it a whole lot but I'm sure it was a topic last yr. So this is old news. Also... the press was limited to spring workouts last yr too. So this reviewer needed to do more homework if you ask me.
  17. Nevermind if he broke any public laws. He certainly broke team rules. I'm sure they have been told over and over again about getting into situations like this. Its going to be a long summer. The staff is going to have to set a example someway. We just don't need these things to be happening ya think? I don't care if they drop all charges... some punishment is in order. Come on Mo! Say it ain't so!!!
  18. I'm with Husker In Hawaii, this is funny stuff, but also an insightful observation, Keep in mind the 4 cops didn't have to pound on him....just surrounding him was enough to get the message through (at least I don't think they had to use any force). Still funny though.... In the police report, they say he crossed his arms and wouldn't let them cuff him. Thus it took 4 of them to get er done. He kept questioning why they were arresting him...Doh!
  19. Good thing you don't live in Durham, North Carolina. You would have probably hung the three athletes there out to dry as well. Heck, even the radio station today had several witnesses on complaining the cops wouldn't even take their statements because it contradicted the bouncers statement. Is it really too much to ask to allow MO a chance to tell his side? Okay... How is he going to explain not leaving. Being drunk. Fighting in the first place. Trying to climb back over the wall to fight more. Resisting arrest. Going to jail. He is going to have witnesses confirming none of this happened too? He can tell his side all he wants. The simple matter of the fact is he BROKE TEAM RULES!!!!! Some sort of suspension is in order. Sheesh a guy on the baseball team got drunk and broke some property on a campus lot and was suspended from the team. He didn't go to jail. I see the same happening to Mo. Just no way around it.
  20. And their words are going to mean ????? when they get to court? What did these apologists have to say on the radio? The D.A. will have the owner, whoever was on the door, the barkeep, both alledged victims, no doubt some regulars who he screamed at (he only cussed out half the bar according to the police report), plus 4 policemen or more and a toxicology report on his percieved drunkeness to help his case. Mo is going to have ???? Yep Mo is going to come out of this one without a scratch. No way around it. Mo is knee deep in doo-doo.
  21. And how do you know there are more witnesses to back his side? Reading it on the internet? Only place I've seen of these so called witnesses. Did he or not break team rules?!?!!!! We don't need to go to court to establish this. Sheesh police show up and they see him being beligerent and still trying to get back in to fight some more. So he gets arrested. He gets punished for that alone. Doesn't he? Forget who started what and who threw what punch. You are drunk in public, fighting and resisting arrest. I rest my case.
  22. Oh yeah... Where are you getting all these witnesses. From the internet? I haven't read anywhere yet that disputes what has been reported already outside of hearsay. Not a witness went up and gave a conflicting report to police either. I do know should he get to court and they try his charges... they are going to walk in with at least 10 witnesses all saying Mo started the whole thing, wouldn't leave and then resisted arrest. They will no doubt have pics of the guys cut face... the bruise on his GF face. A toxicology report of his alcohol content, and the clincher... 4 policemen testifying that it took all four to get him under arrest. Now Mo is going to have who in his corner to testify? Dudes ... this is the real world... wake up and smell the coffee.
  23. This has nothing to do with agendas. He broke team rules. He is hurting the program by his actions. Forget any formal charges. I'm sure the team has a rule about public drunkeness. Getting into fights. Resisting public officials and going to jail. If I'm coach... immediate suspension until further notice. We don't even have to go to court first. Just maybe after I've cooled a bit and the case is settled and all facts/directives given you are reinstated. And with that a severe penalty. You got drunk... got in a fight... wouldn't leave and got arrested. What else do you need as a coach? Look you guys can defend him all you want. When it comes to the team and doing the things you are expected to do... the rules are different than it is for you or I. That is if you want to wear the scarlet and cream. If you can't abide by those rules... sever concequences could and should be in order. Clearly you want the report to be not true. So maybe its you and those that think like you that have the agenda.
  24. Who said he was pretty intoxicated? Link? The police did. They tested him and he blew a .126 at the station. Plus he had a chance to leave once they got him out of the bar but he repeatly tried to go back in and finish what he started. Its all in the police report with plenty of witnesses reporting the whole ordeal. Look... there is no defending his actions. I can't find anthing that makes me go... oh poor Mo. He messed up and has to face the consequences just as it was me or you... He wasn't driving. So .1 really isn't off the scale. And it's clear to anyone reading your posts that you could care less that there are witnesses that dispute the affidavit filed today. You have an agenda, and you could clearly care less about waiting until all the facts are out. What facts are these? I haven't heard anything that said he wasn't drunk (Doesn't the team have a policy of this? Public drunkeness? I'm sure they do). Comeon you know .126 is pretty hammered rather you are driving or not. Haven't heard anyone say the other guy started this fight. Nor anyone say the guy even struck Mo. In fact the police reports witnesses say Mo walked up to the guy, started the confrontation and pretty much dominated him punching him to the ground where he then held a dominating position and proceded to choke him also puching his GF who tried to stop him. The guy never even got a punch in according to the report. PPl had to pull Mo off this guy. And Mo isn't some small dude either. Now you can say I have a agenda... okay... I'm on the WE DON'T NEED THIS KIND OF CRAP agenda. Defend him all you want... Mo is totally in the wrong here. He could of left and probably none of this is even a topic had he done so. No stick around and keep causing trouble trying to get back in and fight more until they call the police and they arrive. Then lets resist arrest. Sheesh... I can't see how I can defend any of his actions...
