  1. I did some research awhile back and put it on the board. Something to the affect that there have been over 50 head coaching vacancies since he left NU. So the question is valid. Why hasnt anyone taken the chance on the guy. You cant sugarcoat no experience. He might do well, he might not. It's a bigger risk to take. And for every Bob Stoops name dropping, where are all the other success stories at major tradition-rich winning football programs? Or else look at the other side of it - Randy Shannon was the DC at Miami, Fla for 5 years. They won the 2001 championship. They loved him there. He's the coach now. And sitting at 10-12 in two years. Keep in mind they did not change the program completely around either. My point is, smaller schools take those chances with promoting assistant coaches.
  2. Since when did weed make fans so violent? Seriously though, I think it says a lot, that Hawkins and Co. want a good hard fought football game w/o fan interference.
  3. Good article. He's definately done well since jumping in late against Texas. I agree with his quotes. I dont think he is refering to everyone, but to most of them.
  4. I hate to say it, not really, but I have a strong feeling that Pelini is going to be stuck on an island and passed over at both NU & LSU. I think it will come down to the obvious: Why have so many teams passed over this guy? I think that's what will bite him. The thought will linger. In fact, I think Pelini will finally see the light bulb after all this and do what Gill did (who wanted to be a HC): Go start your head coaching career at a small school, or a place that is usually hovering around .500, learn on the job, and about managing everything (players, coaches, AD, recruits, boosters, alumni, fans). A&M wont chance it, and maybe Arkansas might. But they want an Arkansas guy. As far as the rumor, makes obvious sense that TO prolly discussed with Solich on some stuff, including Pelini. He's prolly discussing things with McBride and a few other close people too.
  5. I dont think I have respect for CU, but I wont deny that it's always a good anticipation game. I would rather see us play them somewhere in the middle of the season. I think when both teams are battling with 10-1 records, then it becomes more important & the hype gets justified. I dont hate CU. But I dont like them. They have put together some really good teams over the years. Just have never liked their head coaches & some of their player's jacked up pre & post game comments. But so far I havent developed a bad taste about Hawkins yet.
  6. Fellas, am I the only one who basically sensed OLDMAN was just being frustrated? I think he started the thread to obviously let some personal steam out. I dont think his intentions were to get dumped on by anyone who has a keyboard. He's not flaming anyone, so ease up on the attacks. Stating your opinion on if the game is important to you is better than sh!tting on someone b/c his thought process is different than yours. I'm just saying... BTW, it's clear that he is not on this board each and every day to debate, argue, and flame. Just frustrated. This season has taken it's toll on many.
  7. Like Auburn? Where scoring 17 points is a good day? And having to depend on defense, special teams, and field position? That's NFL stuff. I like scoring. I like defense too. So then I guess I like the best of both worlds. I do agree that defense is HUGE and we need it here big time.
  8. That's so tragic. Thoughts and prayers to the Stacy & Bama family.
  9. I would have liked to upload the video right here, but it's not Youtube. Check this out.. Still Want To Smoke?
  10. I think we should start our own Huskerboard rumor and see how far it travels I think I'll start one on my other board that goes like this.... "It's being reported on www.Huskerboard.com that Tom Osborne has hired an inter-net poster named "Hack" to be Nebraska's new HC. Hack has started to fill coaching postions by making Husker Rob-DC, AR Husker-OC and BigRedIowan towel boy. More news to come". Careful... that towel boy may get loose in the showers and start snapping away. "hey guys, anyone drop a bar of soap?" <SNAP!> Then again, you would have a DC that's all talk, an OC who's technical talk is too expensive, and a HC that would.. um... well... he would prolly bring home a championship.
  11. In that order? With no rest bro, your arms wont support you after those deadlifts. Good luck and dont cheese out! Make a program, stick to the program. I need to see that movie.
  12. I understand. You think you'll watch the game though?
  13. That's because they are overly confident with their team. So that they can just insert anyone into the HC position or DC. Crazy thinking if you ask me.
  14. mmkay. I'm just going to believe what I believe. TO will interview several candidates. It's going to take several weeks, maybe a month. No one knows until he holds a presser to announce the new HC. Rumors are fun though.
  15. Not sure why LSU would let their DC become a HC somewhere else if Miles leaves. Also, I think Miles is not one of their guys (southerner, diehard SEC crazed fanatic). And they know this. I think they are overly confident that they can insert anyone at HC and get the job done b/c of their speed and talent alone. Which would be why they are not overly impressed with Pelini's value.
  16. If Turner does get introduced as the next coach, I'm curious to see if the Pelini backers are going to throw a tantrum, or support him.
  17. The story is not accurate. Seriously, it's sooo not true. Let me clear it up, people. It was a Jack and Coke. I was the bartender. And the banging sound in the ballroom was not the B&D pumping so loud (bass & drum). It was the 2003 defensive unit running through a bathroom wall for Pelini to enter. Rumors. Are. Fun. Humor. Is. Good.
  18. dude what part of Dallas you in? I grew up in Denton/Lake Dallas. So i take it you must not be a Cowboys fan if you think we'll lose to the Jets? anyway its cool I found another Husker fan from DFW. Oh and I love the ICP avatar to. here's my headline prediction- "The Bleeding has stopped, Callahan finally fired- Watson named interim coach for the bowl game" PM'd you. There's a lot of Nebraskans living out here.
  19. I just do not see it happening. There has been way to much "unknown" for the past month. You would think TO would have already given Callahan his assurance that he would be back, but some changes to his staff are needed beyond recommendation. Suppose that took place? Suppose Callahan said "these are my guys, let me do my job". And the friction began. We just do not know. Somewhere from the preceding days of firing Steve Pederson, hiring Tom Osborne, and the present time, there has been too much uncertainty from the coaching staff, players, and recruits. So why would Dr. Tom allow the coach to be unsure if he would be back or not, while some recruits start de-committing? That doesnt make sense. Since that introduction, it seemed clear at that point Callahan knew he was walking on eggshells. If he returns, then I will have to be supportive the best I can. But looking back, I will also feel totally snowballed by the whole situation.
  20. Dirk drops 42; Mavs route Bucks Despite win over UT, A&M fires Francione NASCAR heats up Hunting Gear on Sale this weekend only at The Great Outdoors Cowboys looking past Jets and ahead to Packers I'm in Dallas so there you go.
  21. What bothers me is this: Ohio State's regular season is officially over. And we are only half way through November. While the rest of the college football world is battling the next two to three weeks, Ohio State will quietly sit back, eat some popcorn, and see how far they can sneak up in the standings. If LSU stumbles, they are out. If Kansas beats Mizzou, then loses to OU or Texas, they are out. If West Virginia barely beats UConn & Pitt, they are in. And who do they play? Ohio State. With no Big 10 Championship game, they can sneak into the title game by default. Unreal. The current BCS Standings: 1. LSU - 2 games left (Arkansas & SEC Championship game - possibly a Georgia team that is playing tough) 2. Kansas - possibly 2 games left (Missouri & Big 12 Championship game) 3. West Virginia - 2 games left (UConn & Pittsburgh). 4. Missouri - possibly 2 games left (Kansas & Big 12 Championship game) 5. Ohio State - season officially completed by Nov 17.
  22. Yah it's definately a wacky division. With Petersen as the Husker's coach, you could expect that extra "umph" against OU and CU. Petersen beat Stoops and coached under Hawkins. I find that interesting.
  23. I am real impressed with this guy. Have no clue if he will be considered. Or if he would even want to interview. I have been impressed ever since the Fiesta Bowl. Havent heard much talk about him on the board. Some highlights: Career Record: 22-1 Pts game: 42.8 Pts allowed: 18.7 Total offense: 482.0 Total defense: 299.6 Pass yards game: 276 Rush yards game: 205 Only coach to win 13 games in his first season as a Division I coach. Beat OU (against a healthy Adrian Peterson) in Fiesta Bowl. Finished season undefeated. Won the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year award (2006). Offensive Coordinator at Boise State (2001-2005). Has a Psych degree, and a masters degree in Educational Psychology. Boise State plays undefeated Hawaii against that insane passing attack in Honolulu, Friday night at 9pm. It will be interesting to see if he can figure out how to slow it down. Chris Petersen Bio
  24. If you go 6-6 you become bowl eligible. So if a 6-6 team plays a 7-5 team, whoever wins doesnt exaclty prove anything. Not as far as I am concerned.
