  1. I am breaking my arm patting myself on the back for basically saying Texas was going to stay put...I scooped the so-called media on this days ago when starting this thread. Texas was just using this whole thing as leverage and was bluffing everyone as I said. Sure they would have gone Pac 10 if the Pac 10 let them control the conference! This is from the Denver Post and will be no surprise to Nebraska fans...”A source close to the Pac-10's expansion negotiations told The Denver Post that Texas insisted on better revenue sharing and its own network, which essentially killed the deal.” http://www.denverpost.com/commented/ci_15295447?source=commented- Big loser in my opinion is Boise State who should have waited to be invited into the new Big 12 north...instead they jumped on the Mountain West offer which they would have always had on the table regardless of what happened with the Big 12. Boise is still going to be crying for legitimacy whether in the WAC or Mountain West. Now what happens if the Pac 10 offers Utah? That only weakens the Mountain West. There is speculation that the Mountain West and WAC should just combine their best to get automatic BCS birth for the conference winner.
  2. I think our former foes in the Big 12 north will be easy to align with because of the proximity and relationships. I think we will see Colorado out of conference as a team to the west of us and any of the other north teams make perfect sense. May not be every year but perhaps one a year on a fairly regular basis.
  3. Kansas vs. Indiana? How about Kansas vs. Michigan State, now that is more like it. That works too! But Indiana has more championships than either of them despite not winning it all since 1987.
  4. Kansas is a crown jewel in basketball so maybe that alone keeps them alive for a Big 10 bid in future? I would take Kansas over Mizzou as Kansas is so rich with basketball tradition and their football is getting better. Kansas vs Indiana in basketball would be a great rivalry. I am good with where we are at with 12 teams in the new Big 10...many awesome games to look forward to! But in future it would be awesome to see Notre Dame come in as an east school and good old Kansas as a west school...I think around 14 teams is most you want to go with and have 7 in each division...you play your division 6 games and 3 from the other division...end with a conference championship...you could do it geographically like this: West: Nebraska Iowa Wisconsin Minnesota Illinois Northwestern Kansas (future) East: Michigan Michigan St. Ohio St. Penn St. Purdue Indiana Notre Dame (future) Jayhawk, I am pulling for you!
  5. In another thread I stated that don't be surprised to see Texas stay put as the anchor for a conference (i.e. revamped Big 12) in their region since they anchor that whole region. I still think that can happen and Texas is just enjoying all the love/coverage they are getting and the other remaining Big 12 schools sucking up to them right now. If they do go Pac 10 here is what I would do: West: USC UCLA Cal Stanford Oregon Oregon St. Washington Washington St. East: Arizona Arizona St. Oklahoma Oklahoma St. Colorado Texas Texas A&M/Texas Tech/Utah (2 of these 3 for 16 total) If Texas A&M goes SEC then Texas Tech and Utah. Texas Tech becomes travel partner when teams visit Texas and Utah becomes travel partner when teams visit Colorado. Utah may have some clout. They can bring travel partner to Colorado and also make it so state of Texas only adds 2 teams and conference doesn't start to sway everything Texas. I also don't think Texas Tech is a good fit for the Pac 10 and the Pac 10 only takes them if A&M says no and they have to take Tech as package with Texas. Will be interesting to see if Texas holds out for bringing A&M and Tech...Pac 10 already blocked Baylor. I never thought I'd see Pac 10 go to 16 teams but I have to think that is preference of Texas as they are main player in the East (a mini conference of 8 teams). The championship is easy...rotates between the Rose Bowl and Jerry World.
  6. I typically have pulled for Boise State but they have disappointed me here...move from one weak conference to another and you want legitimacy? They should have explored interests in aligning with a new Big 12...it is not like the Mountain West was going to reject them if they came later in the end anyway.
  7. Looking forward to playing Iowa. Huskers--> <--Hawkeyes
  8. Boise St. does not fit into the pac 10 academically. Cannibalizing the mountain west and taking Boise out of the WAC (only good program) to save the big 12 is an interesting idea but doesn't seem likely at all. It would make a lot of people very angry to see the mountain west, which has been slowly trying to build into a major conference with a BCS bid be ruined so Texas can keep their party going. The geography is also not good. Football teams may have deep travel pockets but surprisingly enough there are other NCAA sports besides football. There's plenty of incentive for the southern teams and remainder of the north to hang together. In my mind a more likely scenario is ISU, KU, K-State, Missouri, OSU and Oklahoma forming the new north division with six Texas schools forming the new southern division. TCU, Southern Methodist, Rice...I don't know but I'm sure there's at least two Texas programs that would love to be in that action. Agree Boise St. does not fit Pac 10 academically and that is why they will need to come into my proposed new conference....which I just don't see Rice and SMU joining...those teams have no recent BCS credibility and will be looked at as big time cupcakes...I think Texas would actually get backlash for making their division too winnable. Plus you want Texas and OU in same division so they play every year. On the other hand, Boise St., Utah, and TCU all have recent BCS credibility. They now have the chance to earn the big $$$. And, Texas comes out saying, "see our conference is welcoming these teams which have captured BCS interest last few years and played in recent BCS bowls, blah, blah, blah". So the $$$ will deem the dismantling of the Mountain West.
  9. Why? Are they going to fire Cogrove?Wow, I typed his name with out cringingthats probably because you misspelled it. :laughpound That's a good one right there. "Cogrove"...dude couldn't even bring himself to spell it! I know how it feels, bro. :rollin
  10. Either Iowa or Penn State would be a great tradition for day after Thanksgiving. Probably Iowa because they would be in our division and we'd play them every year. So I think it will be Iowa as the new tradition.
  11. I think Grimble will give us another look. USC has a big mess to clean up for awhile.
  12. This is just an opinion I have and I am not married to it but I have been thinking Texas will not end up going anywhere. The Big 12 will be reshaped with Nebraska and Colorado leaving and I think could wind up something like this (14 teams): South: Texas Texas A&M Texas Tech Baylor TCU Oklahoma Oklahoma St. North: Kansas Kansas St. Mizzou Iowa St. Boise St. Utah BYU Reasons why this would work for Texas: Texas still controls a situation like this with all their lil' Texas brothers adding TCU. Keeps Texas happy geographically. Keeps Texas/OU rivalry alive. Jerry World would be site of the conference championship. Texas realistically will win this conference regularly racking up BCS Bowls. Keeps much of the Big 12 in tact. Adds hot newcomers "buzz" who want to play with the big boys to get BCS birth, yet are not strong enough to threaten Texas' power. Keeps Texas in power and control of the conference. Reasons why other conferences do not work for Texas: Would be a smaller fish in SEC. Geographically challenged for Big 10. I will still say the Pac 10 is alive but a lot has to work out...I think the Pac 10 is also a geographic nightmare for Texas (student athlete travel will be issue). Another conference means losing a lot of their Texas brothers and rivals. So do not be surprised in the end if Texas stays put. They are a geographic anchor for that entire region and once they leave that anchor spot, their power and control is diluted. For now, it sure is nice though for them to be mentioned as a prized school and program that is nationally relevant and basically saying only Texas and Notre Dame have this type of power and influence. Notice how right now Texas is a shining star program while OU is not even mentioned...I have to believe Texas is loving that! But in the end, Texas is playing one big bluff and will stay put. They actually may have bluffed the entire Pac 10 which now has Colorado and no travel partner for their teams when playing in Colorado. I can't blame Colorado for accepting Pac 10 invite but they stick out as geographically odd unless the Pac 10 acts fast. Do you really think Texas likes the Pac 10's preference for Colorado when Baylor would likely have to come in any mega team deal involving Texas? Baylor is now blocked out so don't be surprised to see Texas give the middle finger now to the Pac 10.
  13. Well, I did have a hard time telling these 2 apart...but you made it easy for me, thanks for the tip!
  14. It will be really interesting to see if the Pac 10 gets mesmerized with Texas. Reports are Colorado is gone to the Pac 10. It is all unraveling now. At first I was really not thinking the Pac 10 could pull this off (I mean these teams are nowhere near the Pacific)...but the LA Times article says only 2 cross over games between west/east per year so I can see that. http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegesports/2010/06/09/pac-10-expansion-on-thursday-it-becomes-the-pac-11/ and LA Times
  15. Ok, going with what I have experienced and known of these fanbases: Michigan - smug, arrogant, annoying. Not so much of late because they suck. Wisconsin - very good fanbase. I like these guys and usually pull for them in Big 10 football. Purdue - actually know some fans...seem down to earth, just hope they can be good. Respectful. Ohio State - the fans I know are alright...not so much different than other top program fans thinking they are the best. Illinois - only care when their team is good. Penn State - enthusiastic, loyal, passionate, seems like a very good fanbase. Don't know enough about the other schools to comment.
  16. IMO the Jags pick was one of the biggest reaches in first round...not saying Tebow was your pick at #10 but Tebow at #25 could be argued he was taken 10 picks too soon...but Alualu at #10? He was taken more than 10 picks too soon. I think it is winding up that the Rams blew it. Could have had Suh and then grab Clausen next and 2 huge needs are filled but instead get Bradford and ?.
  17. Watched more of McShay tonight...he just comes across as a poser. He never really has anything insightful so tend to agree he is just there to play off Kiper and stir some discussion. Dissing Suh and continually trashing on Tebow is getting old. The more I watch Gruden the more I like him. He was the best guy on that set tonight.
  18. Kid is on the rise. Made all camp at TCU recently (best 25 from 280 prospects according to this link). http://rise.espn.go.com/football/articles/2010/04/14-texas-all-camp-team.aspx
  19. We should and better handle Idaho or we have issues. Washington will be a tough game at their place...have watched these guys. Last year sort of hung with LSU but ultimately did not have depth to win. Shocked USC. Competed well at Notre Dame and could have won. Drubbed #19 Cal to end season. They are very hot and cold but I expect them to be more consistent and Locker is probably the best QB in the country. Would not be surprised if they get to 8 wins. We better be ready.
  20. Would love to have this kid. Could be a stellar DE for years with Pelini & Co. Looks very positive for us!
  21. Bottomline is we need a visit from him. If we don't get a visit, then I predict LSU or Bama.
  22. From what I can tell the Skins robbed the Rams here...gave up very little. I try to like the Rams but they just continue to crap themselves.
  23. From Husker Journal: APRIL 21 2010. MESSAGE BOARDS CAMERON COFFMAN, QB, 6-2, 180, 4.7, RAYMORE (RAYMORE-PECULIAR), MO Cameron has offers from Kansas State, Nebraska, Iowa State, Arizona State and Wyoming “I’ve been to Kansas State lots of times my brother plays there and I went to Iowa State about three weeks ago. I’ve been to Nebraska too.” Coffman said Likes Coach Snyder “I like Coach Snyder a lot he seems to get them working hard, a discipline football team. My brother likes it there and tells me how hard they work through the summer.” Coffman said No Stranger To Nebraska “I’ve been down there (Nebraska) a few times before and saw most of everything. Last year I went to the Kansas State and Nebraska game, it was for the Big 12 North Championship. The crowd was loud and they (fans) love their football.” Coffman said “I love the Nebraska fans they’re awesome. I’ve been down there for about three home games and the fans love their Huskers.” Coffman said “I really like Coach Rhoades (Iowa State) he a real good coach. The offensive coordinator and quarterback coach (Tom Herman) is real young and easy to get along with.” Coffman said Make Trip To The Desert “I think I’m going to check out Arizona State later this summer and a week before school is out. I like ASU the weather is warm and my dad is friends with the athletic director down there. I just got started talking with the Arizona State coaches.” Coffman said Check Out The Tide “I’m actually going to Alabama for a regional Elite 11 camp then check out Alabama the next day and talk to their coaches. I was going to go the one (camp) in Berkeley but my dad talked to the Alabama coaches and they wanted me to come down there and check them out.” Coffman said “I’m not sure when I’m going to commit. I want to check out everybody out that offers me, just take my time.” Coffman said
