  1. Turner Gill is not the next coach. IF TG was the choice why not make the announcement and get on the recruiting trail, etc.? I like TG and would welcome him back as OC. But if he was the one, then they should announce by end of the week. Osborne's comments are that coach will likely be announced next week. My feeling is that Pelini is still the choice and out of respect for him coaching in the SEC championship, the announcement will come after that game and he has chance to address his LSU players. I say early next week it is Pelini...
  2. Meh. Grobe is not high on my list. He is a pretty good coach and seems to be a solid, stand-up guy. But remember this guy lost twice to Callahan afterall.
  3. I don't think he is a candidate for NU but on a local radio show today in So. CA they were interviewing Terry Bowden. He was adamant that he will be back in coaching and says he misses coaching and absolutely wants back in. I think he will wind up at either Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Ole Miss, or Southern Miss. What do you think? Or if Les Miles does not go to Michigan, would they look at Terry Bowden? Or if Les Miles does go to Michigan, would LSU want Terry Bowden?
  4. Hmmm...wonder where Rome got this scoop? He's not just some local jock spouting off so would be interested to know if Rome knows this, then TO must know this as well. Was Rome just speculating or did he say he was sure Cowher was interested? Heck, interview the guy! I like Pelini but Cowher seems like he is Pelini but with like 20 more years experience...interesting.
  5. Why the hell are you watching Oprah? why the hell aren't you watching Oprah?
  6. Sweet video. I always liked this one as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35bZ75QlRX8
  7. My guess is the broadcast booth for a year or two...then back to the NFL as an OC if right thing opens up for him. He'll be fine.
  8. Peterson from Boise State will definitely be a candidate if UCLA opens up. I'd say Leach is behind him but would also be a candidate. Norvell will not be a candidate. Those that want Dorrell out would want Norvell out as well. The UCLA offense has been the problem. I live in southern CA and a local show even mentioned Callahan as a possible candidate at UCLA which I would never see happening. The sentiment from UCLA fans is that Dorrell's west coast offense has not worked and Norvell gets criticism on this also. The Dorrell apologists point to the fact UCLA has had massive injuries at QB this year. If Dorrell can upset USC again this year that will save his job. If USC blows him out, then he is likely gone. If it is a tight game and they still lose, this thing could go either way...I'd say they'd then likley see if they can get a big catch before letting Dorrell go. If so, he is gone...if not, then they keep him.
  9. Wow...Pelini on board the plane! Guess it makes sense since he can't wait later in the week since he will be at practice prepping for the SEC Championship!
  10. Anytime there is a successful college head coach, they are going to be rumored for jobs in the NFL...difficult to know if that would be Pelini's ultimate goal but sure he would be asked question in the interview. On one hand if he is getting head coaching offers in NFL, then it must mean we did well with him. Pelini strikes me as one that can motivate college kids...NFL is different story...guys like Pete Carroll, Steve Spurrier, and Nick Saban did not do so well in the NFL...I think the recent prevailing thinking on this is that some would be wise to stay in the college game where they have most influence. Here in southern CA this always comes up with Pete Carroll and the reaction is why would he leave...fans love him, team loves him, program is behind him 100%, he is paid very well, he is the King of L.A. (no NFL team to share spotlight with). If Pelini succeeded at Nebraska he'd be viewed same way in Nebraska (no NFL to compete with either). If we get 6-8 years from Pelini and he wins so much, wins national championship, he is so good, etc. that the NFL comes courting, then we just have to live with that and be happy.
  11. This scenario has been intriguing me. I think it could happen and would have a very positive reaction from the fan base. In thinking about it, we need both of these guys for different reasons and they compliment each other. They have coached together before so that is a positive (I have never heard they did not like coaching together). The one thing that makes me think this could actually happen is that with Gill you have a guy that is not about ego...if TO really feels like he could help the team in coming back as the OC, then I can see Gill really considering it. I think it would be really cool, actually.
  12. These names have already been discussed ad nauseum for weeks right here at HuskerBoard! That's where they got these names. hahaha
  13. Peterson is a good coach...my guess is he will eventually wind up in the Pac 10. He is rumored to be a top choice for UCLA if Karl Dorrell is let go. I'm not sure he'd fix our defense problems but he is a good candidate.
  14. My early guess would be 8-4. Definite 2 losses are Oklahoma and VA Tech. We likely lose 2 more of these 3...Texas Tech, Missouri, Kansas. Unfortunately our defense has to be re-built from the ground up...would not be surprised to see 7-5.
  15. Exactly. As soon as a saw the all white uni's I knew we were screwed. Agree...knew we could be in trouble when seeing the white uni's. They don't look good at all. I hope we don't use them in the future...a very ugly look, just look like garbage.
  16. Player: J.R. Bryant Hometown: Garden City, KS Position: LB Height: 6'3" Weight: 228 lbs. 40 time: 4.48 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Okie State, Texas Tech Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: Bryant is #32 on Rivals Juco Top 50 for 2008. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 25% Looks like he will visit other schools...assume he'd likely visit once new coaching staff is in place.
  17. Thought we might see renewed interest from Womble since Gray decommit but looks like that will not be the case. Womble likes North Carolina and will still visit South Carolina and Arizona State. The fact that we have lost recruits and not started back up with others (like Womble) convinces me BC and staff are gone. Why would TO keep BC as many of our recruits have left and others (like Womble) appear to no longer be on the radar?
  18. I looked at the scoring defense statistics. It pretty much follows suit as to what I showed prior with the total defense categories. Here is how it looks (again with Nebraska shown also): 2006 Florida (23rd in scoring offense / 6th in scoring defense) Nebraska (17th / 24th) 2005 Texas (1st / 8th) Nebraska (67th / 25th) 2004 USC (6th / 3rd) Nebraska (58th / 71st) 2003 LSU (19th / 1st) Nebraska (74th / 2nd w/Pelini) 2002 Ohio State (41st / 2nd) Nebraska (59th / 45th) 2001 Miami (3rd / 1st) Nebraska (7th / 6th) 2000 Oklahoma (7th / 7th) Nebraska (4th / 26th) 1999 Florida St. (4th / 10th) Nebraska 12th / 3rd) I only went back to 1999 as that is how far the NCAA website has archived back to (others feel free to knock yourself out with more research). Not one BCS champion above has had less than a Top 10 scoring defense! We are not guaranteed this with Pelini but I think he is obviously the number one guy out there if you want to create a top defense year in and year out. This can be done at Nebraska and will be foundation for many great bowl games to come and gives us best chance to play for BCS title. Of course it is not going to hold to form every year but I think we all want consistency with our team where every year we have a chance to win the Big 12 and beyond. We should never be out of the top 25 again!
  19. I did a bit of research and just scratched the surface on the following... Here are the recent BCS champions with their total offense rank and defense rank for their championship years in parentheses (offense rank / defense rank); I also put the yearly Nebraska numbers in for good measure: 2006 Florida (19th in total offense / 6th in total defense) Nebraska (14th / 56th) 2005 Texas (3rd / 10th) Nebraska (96th / 26th) 2004 USC (12th / 6th) Nebraska (69th / 56th) 2003 LSU (31st / 1st) Nebraska (83rd / 11th w/Pelini) 2002 Ohio State (70th / 23rd) Nebraska (61st / 55th) 2001 Miami (8th / 6th) Nebraska (12th / 8th) 2000 Oklahoma (18th / 8th) Nebraska (6th / 26th) In nearly every instance the BCS champion had a higher ranked defense than offense (exception of Texas in 2005 but they still had a Top 10 Defense). In fact, you can argue that it is essential to have a Top 10 defense to win the BCS (all teams listed above do with exception of Ohio State in 2002). The last time we had a Top 10 defense we at least reached the championship game in 2001. I think we need Pelini so we can regularly have a Top 10 defense. We need to yearly have a Top 10 defense with a top 25 offense. That is very achievable and that will bring us back to the promised land. I don't expect Oregon or Missouri to win the BCS...both have great offenses but lack defenses. If the formula above holds form again this year the BCS champion will likely be LSU, Oklahoma, Kansas, or West Virginia (all these teams have top ranked defenses with offenses that are good enough to win it all). BRING BACK BO!
  20. Anybody up for cool sigs with... Lucky, Ganz, Castille (this would be an offense one) Thenarse, Suh, Blue (this would be a defense one) Put "chamrocck" somewhere in the sig. Or wondering if anyone wants to do anything cool with the Pelini picture I have as my current sig? Thanks!
