  1. I really think we need this guy. Go get him guys. GBR!!
  2. Nebraska doesn't have the players behind Suh that USC and Florida do, that's apples and oranges. This thread has suddenly taken a turn for the worse. I think it's exhausted its worth.
  3. This is true, but then you are not really talking about the 2008 Huskers with that statement. Without Ganz we don't neccessarily have a crap QB, just an unproven one. On the DL, though, we don't have any true killers except for Suh. Junior made some good points that the DL had very good stats across the board. It's true. However, while I hate to look stubborn, I honestly believe that the whole line benefits from a guy like Suh. Oh well, I guess I'm stubborn. At least I admit it. Great thread. So you are saying, hypothetically, that we go 8-4 with the 2nd string QB say Witt, but not with a 2nd string DT, say Barfield? I don't see it. We outscored our opponents to win games, we didn't shut them down defensively. ISU and NMSU don't count, they were just inept in and of themselves. No no no. Don't put words in my mouth, now. C'mon bop. I'm saying I think Suh is more important to this team than Ganz. I did also say that I thought we wouldn't be 8-4 without him. That's it. It's tough to say what would have happened if Ganz went down. I simply think he's more valuable, that's it. Well, I think we might be able to be 8-4 with Suh's backup playing and definitely not with Ganz's backup playing. Back in '94 when Tommie went down, the D did admirably to get some W's with Brook at the helm, but no way we win the NC w/o Tommie. Ganz is more valuable, the MVP of the team, IMO. I think Swift is 2nd in line, then probably Suh, although I think Potter was nearly as good as Suh. Now, if they would have used Suh more widely as a receiver, then maybe he trumps Swift. I would be thrilled if Suh becomes a dominant force next yr though and our D really starts shutting other teams down. Don't forget though, not only did they win with Brook in 94, but against #6 K State they had to start Matt Turman.... and we crushed them without throwing but maybe like 5 times or something. Hey, I could be wrong, I just think what I think.

  6. The NEW most disturbing thread on Huskerboard is....
  7. I can accept or at least consider almost any argument for or against Suh or Ganz either way, it's a fun debate. However, this.... "NU has the same record at 8-4 if Suh goes down to injury early in the season like Turner did." .... I can't agree with. Teams win and lose games in the trenches. Suh's value to the team is much more difficult to see tangibly than Ganz's value. You can't measure the disruption that a DL can have on a game when he is dominating and doesn't record a stat. To paraphrase another board member... you can't only use stats to measure greatness. Suh, however, does have great stats for a DL and his value is even better than those stats would indicate. I think our DBs (with all of their wealth of experience) might appreciate the plays that they make because of something Suh does or something the offense does to game plan because of him. Ganz is the easy pick to make. You Ganz guys may still be right, I'm not infallible by any stretch, I just think for my money... it's Suh. JMHO
  8. Murillo.... he's a shutdown corner! Ummm no, I have to go with the guy who was a huge difference maker all year long. He had his games where he didn't do much because he was doubled on but that opened other guys up for plays. Early on it seemed like Suh was the one guy that other teams tried to account for on our dfense. Congrats big guy, you are my MVP! Now where can I buy 7 #93 Husker Jerseys?
  9. Nice article. Cody sounds like a great kid. I think he will fit in well with Nebraskans. I'm pumped!
  10. The kid is still taking classes in high school, it's a little early to be saying he should or shouldn't be our starter next year. There are kids who can come in as true freshmen and start right away for teams who are very good teams (like Pryor and Ohio State). However, it's an incredible burden in my opinion to put on a kid to expect that from him. I hope he comes in and gives us four years of great play. When talking to friends in discussions about next years QB I have often said that our starter next year may not even be here yet, but I do think it's unlikely that he ends up as our starter over other guys who have two or three years in the system already. Either way, we have a great player coming in and I am geeked about that!
  11. He certainly has the measurables doesn't he? I'm a little concerned that it looks like he didn't have that many offers, but then that shouldn't be the only indicator of talent. Lots of great players didn't get offers from lots of schools. Welcome Mr.Middleton.
  12. What "evidence" from any source is there that someone is blowing hot smoke up anyone's butt to get Jarvis? I was just wondering, several posts have signaled that others are "low-ballin" promises like such. I know in earlier posts Giles said of his Gamecock visit, "They were saying how much they need me, telling me that I'm a gamechanger. They were talking about how I can have an impact on the program." Personally, I don't know of any recruiter, including Nebraska, that wouldn't say the same thing to a recruit ... and be 100% true and as well have a clear conscience. As well, I can't think of any of these programs Giles might go to where he won't have to "earn it". My two cents, SheepdogMark Well said.
  13. He would also be in jail. Rape rumors are bs. No coach would ever look past such a crime. If a coach tried to cover up a rape, he would be fired immediately and possibly charge with aiding and abetting. Great point. I agree.
  14. As a head coach he is completely invested emotionally in that team. Having coached myself, I know that you start to look at these kids much like you look at your own kids. When you teach kids and coach them and guide them into success there is no greater feeling. That's why it's better for him. My favorite moment in sports too didn't involve my playing days but my coaching days. There's no better feeling than leading kids (of any age) to success. I hope someday you come to feel the same way. It's tremendously rewarding. Plus, it's a tremendous achievement... like he said, considering where the program was when he took over. It's right on par with Bill Snyder's turn around at K-State. At least K-State was in a major conference.
  15. Factually, every state is obligated to pursue these charges once they know about them. The crux in a case like this though, is that the autorities have to be nitified of the crime. The police and the prosecutors cannot put together and try a case that if they don't know that there is a crime. Also, they need to have a victim and some way to put together a case. What I mean by that is that if they get an anonymous tip or something that it happened but no one will talk about it what can they base their case on? There must be a factual basis for the case. If the girl got pregnant and had a child they could get a court order for DNA testing and prosecute that way regardless of how cooperative the victim and their family are. FYI
  16. I agree with this, it's a great point. Guys, there is no outright accusation, but you can't deny that he intended to use NU as an example of potential wrongdoing. Either way, it wasn't very well written as too much was left to interpret.
  17. I have a tough time buying this story. This is not the kind of thing an athletic department can keep hush hush. What we're talking about here would get him major prison time. I don't want to judge any dads out there, I just know that if something like that happened to my daughter I wouldn't just sit on my hands about it. That's another reason I have trouble thinking it is true. Not saying you are lying just saying all rumors shouldn't neccessarily be taken as gospel.
  18. I think what they were saying is that just by mentioning NU, Pelini, and Gill it is kind of implied that there could be some sort of discrimination involved.
  19. He didn't exactly say anything about Osborne or NU being discriminatory but the implication is kind of there in the haze isn't it? Is the answer the NFL's Rooney rule? I don't think so. Anyone remember a couple of years back when one NFL team was all set to hire their coach (for the life of me I can't remember who it was or what team) and they couldn't get any black candidates to interview? I think they tried to interview Dennis Green and he declined because he knew who they were going to hire and didn't want to be a "token" interview. The whole situation was messed up because the team had a guy all picked out and could be punished if they didn't interview any black condidates. But no black candidates would interview because they knew they weren't going to be the guy. Catch 22.
  20. I played against him in 88 and 89 and Erik Strickland was the best football player I think I've ever seen at the high school level. He would have been awesome in FB in college if he'd went that way instead of FB. Calvin Jones- Fast as all get out. Clester Johnson was a freak of nature physically. One of my friends went to BW and said that the wrestling coach asked Clester to wrestle for them in districts after their guy got hurt and couldn't go. They had no one else with a chance of doing very good so Clester stepped in and qualified for state and eventually took like 4th or something. Not sure if that story is true or not but it was told to me by an offensive lineman for BW. Also played dodgeball against Terrence Badgett in gym class in high school. He could vaporize you from all the way across the gym!
