  1. Agreed. I doubt any "open" schollies from this year end up being available for next. Additional schollies for next year will likely come from the inevitable transfers, kicked off team, not making grades, injuries, etc.
  2. We may offer a true FB in 2011. We may only take 3 OL this class because we're pretty stacked in the 2 previous classes, but you can never have too many OL. As others have said, we're likely to take 2 DT and 2 DE and maybe one other DL. We should have some top-ranked guys looking at us after the way the season ended and the hype Suh has gotten to go along with Dorsey from a couple years ago. Should help recruiting throughout the entire defense.
  3. Between Clemson and NU, it's been a pretty good season for you.
  4. In the article Rome says that he's trying to get in the 8 man rotation on the d-line. So he's not necessarily looking to start but just get some PT, which isn't out of the question.
  5. Yes sir. Here's the breakdown: Rushing = 147 ypg. Passing = 176 ypg. Total = 323 ypg. Oh, so it's a ratio by yards. I thought it was by play calls. Ok thanks.
  6. 1988 1/2 vs. Miami (Florida) (11-1) L 3 23 @ Miami, FL Orange Bowl 1989 1/1 vs. Florida State (10-2) L 17 41 @ Tempe, AZ Fiesta Bowl 1990 1/1 vs. Georgia Tech (11-0-1) L 21 45 @ Orlando, FL Citrus Bowl 1991 1/1 vs. Miami (Florida) (12-0) L 0 22 @ Miami, FL Orange Bowl 1992 1/1 vs. Florida State (11-1) L 14 27 @ Miami, FL Orange Bowl Yeah that was great Didn't 4 of those teams win the MNC? Serious question.
  7. Bo & Wats have been notified. Get that O fixed for next season so we can snag this kid. We need to run the "Goldilocks Offense". Not too much run, not too much pass, but just right.
  8. Don't get me wrong, the NCAA is about as stupid and confusing a governing body as anything I've ever seen or heard of. I'm just pointing out that a school like NU can still get in trouble even if the person (people) responsible are not officially connected to the school. Can the rule be abused? Absolutely. Is it a good rule? Probably not. But that's the rule as far as I understand it.
  9. AND have the option to pass the ball effectively when 9 in the box, 3rd and long or, heaven forbid, when we're behind in the fourth quarter. This was from 1980 to 1992 the biggest issue with TO's offense. Yeah, I'd hate for that kind of production. But I agree with your point, we need to be able to pass at least some. But we're unlikely to have an offense that does everything well. I suspect we'll continue what has happened under Pelini and Watson - figure out what the players we have do best.
  10. Are you sure we passed more than ran in 2009? If that's the case, I'm really surprised. I thought we were balanced early in the season and then mostly running late.
  11. The NCAA won't do anything to an individual, whether associated with the university or not. What the NCAA can do is sanction the university. So even if you are not a student, booster, or employee, the NCAA can still go after the school you are supporting. To my knowledge, the NCAA has never actually done this, but it is possible. The NCAA is a private organization, not a government agency, so they can make whatever rules they want. However, as the article above points out, the NCAA could end up in some sticky legal problems if they tried enforcing the rule.
  12. I have a good amount of confidence in this, too. What I worry about is the fanbase not being grounded, which can in turn have a negative effect when our unrealistic expectations aren't met. When has the fanbase ever been grounded in reality? Just look at the unrealistic expectations for our offense this season. By the moaning and groaning, you'd think Watson had never had a successful offense, even though we'd been top 25 the previous year. And then later in the season fans just expected the defense to dominate every team, which they mostly did, but the expectation for them to do it every week was pretty unrealistic.
  13. Does anyone know if his name is pronounced like "soup" or like "sour"?
  14. ND also lost a superstar WR.
  15. If he got an offer at this point, we'd all be baffled. Why is that? Seems perfectly fine to offer the kid.
  16. Doesn't the NCAA have exceptions for these kinds of situations when there is a coaching change? I thought that even if a player has signed his LOI, he can back out of it without penalty if there is a head coaching change. I'm pretty sure this happened this last month, though I forget the player and school. But I could be wrong about this. He hasn't signed his letter yet. He won't until Feb. 3rd, so he can take classes at USC or wherever this spring, sign an intent in Feb., and still go where he wants. Only Dec. graduating JUCO's have already signed.
  17. Ah yes, the ol' silent commit. (I'm not doubting anybody or their info, it's just that this happens every year right about now and on through signing day.)
  18. This is the perfect example why people need to start chilling out regarding this Staff and recruiting. You want to know why the staff cooled on a stud OT in Texas? Because he can't get himself qualified so why waste your time and effort on him when you have comparable or better targets, i.e. Moudy and Simek, to try go get. You're wasting your time. Nobody wants to hear about reason when rumor and innuendo make it more dramatic.
  19. Very impressive. I love team players.
  20. Maybe the reported 3 open schollies are due to Mitchell, Evans, and Cotton all taking greyshirts.
  21. Can we move the 05 recruiting class discussion to another thread? I'm sure there are several already started. So nobody knows the status of Mobley? He's got some good measurables, and we could use some receivers in this class. I like everybody we have in the class right now, so I wouldn't want to bump anyone. It's just too bad we're filling up already.
  22. From everything I've heard, Cotton has done quite well recruiting for the OL the last couple years. I think he's made most, if not all, of the in-home visits for the OL recruits.
  23. I think we'll be in the MNC mix next year. That doesn't mean we'll win it, but we'll be in the discussion. That's all you can really hope for each season. You never know when injuries, lucky bounces, and bad officiating will influence a game for or against NU. For the offense, I think we'll have a top 25 offense next season. I know that sounds crazy, but we've got 10 starters returning. 10! With 3 quality RB's, all with some experience, and an improving OL, we should have the running game next season many were predicting us to have this year. Also, the WR's and TE's look pretty solid and could be special if Paul and McNeil excel and another WR and TE is at least solid. The QB position could be good, bad, or even ugly, but I think it'll be decent due to health, experience, and an improved OL. For the defense, I don't think we'll be as dominating as this year, no matter what Bo says. But I still think we'll be top 10 or 15. That's still a really good defense. Losing Suh, Dillard, Asante, and O'Hanlon will definitely hurt. But our DB's look excellent and the DL should still be strong with Crick, Allen, and Meredith. The real question for me will be whether the LB's can emerge and play even close to how Dillard did. And how many running vs passing teams we'll face. Teams might find some success running, but passing teams could be in trouble against those corners.
