  1. So, I hear this Carter kid has us in the lead. Anybody think he might be our next commit?
  2. From wikipedia: "It was listed on early maps as "Boca Ratones". The literal translation of "Boca Raton" is "Mouse Mouth"[7] ("rat" in Spanish is "rata")[8]. One explanation for the origin is the Spanish word boca (or mouth) was (and still is) used to describe an inlet and ratón (literally mouse) was used by Spanish sailors to describe rocks that gnawed at a ship's cable. Another explanation is that it refers metaphorically to the sense of pirate's cove.[9][10] The name Boca Ratones originally appeared on eighteenth century maps associated with an inlet in the Biscayne Bay area of Miami. By the beginning of the nineteenth century, the term was mistakenly moved north to its current location on most maps and applied to Lake Boca Raton, whose inlet was closed at the time."
  3. Jen, I can't believe you're trying to talk common sense with us football fanatics! By definition, we're fanatical (that's where the word "fan" comes from, I think). But your point is well taken. Following recruiting is just for entertainment. Which guys we get and don't get, doesn't always translate into how good our team is. Good luck convincing the posters here, though.
  4. Coach Pelini's record IS 10-4 overall. Yes, but that obviously contradicts the 8-5 from last year. Pelini can't have had 5 losses last year and have only 4 losses overall.
  5. Great blog there. Thanks for the link.
  6. Even if/when LSU offers, I think we're still in the driver's seat for this kid. I've read that his parents really like the NU coaches.
  7. FAU does have a LOT of speed on Offense, especially in the TE/WR/FB position. We recruit 95% of our athletes from Florida, and speed is a strong suit in most Florida players. They will be at or slightly below NU in that regard. The REAL diffrence will be on the Lines. FAU and most Belt teams are undersized on the OL/DL compared to BCS programs and thats where you guys will have the strong advantage and depth. Im not saying we are close in talent in totatlity. But in Offense I think we are. This seems about right. As someone else mentioned, FAU isn't all that small on DL, but I think NU has a significant edge in talent on the lines - regardless of size. FAU has some speed and will probably get some big plays, especially early in the game. But the Blackshirts get better as the games goes on, and the lines will start to wear FAU down. IMO, NU wins by 3 TD's, but it's still a one score game going into the 4th quarter.
  8. Yeah as much as I would love to see him come here we are stacked at TE. There is a lot of young talent there as well. Because Chase Harper is a terrific athlete. The type you do not turn away just because. Would he play another position, or do you think he's good enough to get into the lineup at TE next year?
  9. Why are we recruiting a JUCO TE? We have 6 good TE's already, and none will graduate this year. What am I missing?
  10. Not to mention that Fisher fits the hybrid LB/DE role quite well, also.
  11. The Steelers, Patriots, Chargers, and more NFL teams are running the 34 D. The Steelers were the top run defense last season. I'm not sure how to find which college teams primarily run the 34, so I can't give more college related stats. Edit: Oops, that was for the postseason. The Steelers were #2 run defense for the regular season. And they did give up 3.3 ypc, so junior4949's point is still valid.
  12. It does if CU doesn't have the personnel to run the scheme and they don't. You have to have a DT that can take 2-3 guys and stuff the LOS every time, doesn't work otherwise. I don't see it at CU. Agreed. I think the losses on the DL are going to be huge for CU this season. I was just pointing out that the 3-4 D by itself does not mean we can run on it. Wiki - I'm too lazy to do real research - pedia Ok, thanks. I was just going with the 72 Dolphins off the top of my head. I probably shouldn't have been so lazy myself and looked it up.
  13. IIRC, the 3-4 defense was developed as a run-stopping D in the NFL in the 70's. Each team that runs it is obviously somewhat different, but just because CU is running the 3-4 doesn't mean we'll be able to run on them.
  14. I think there's a general misconception among football fans that a quick-strike/passing offense can score more often than a clock-control/running offense. Yes, the quick-strike does score in less time, but that is completely negated by the fact that the other team then gets the ball. So, if both offenses keep scoring, neither can out-score the other. The quick-strike does have an advantage at the end of each half, but the clock-control offense wears out the other team's defense and has advantages most of the second half.
  15. Here's the RB comparison: RUSHING GP-GS Att Gain Loss Net Avg TD Long Avg/G -------------------------------------------------------------- Sharp, Jake 13-10 186 888 28 860 4.6 12 47 66.2 Helu Jr., Roy 13-2 125 839 36 803 6.4 7 57 61.8 Castille, Q. 13-1 106 505 38 467 4.4 6 58 35.9 Helu put up almost as many yards as Sharp with 60 less carries. Which shows up in the ypc: 6.4 for Helu and 4.6 for Sharp. Sharp had 12 carries for 103 yards and 1 TD for 8.6 ypc against OU, which jayhawker keeps touting. Helu had 16 carries for 157 yards and 1 TD for 9.8 ypc against OU. I'm very certain I'd take Helu over Sharp given these stats, and I'd bet most other people would too. Castille wasn't far behind Sharp's number either.
  16. A bunch of FR and SO on the oline usually spells disaster. Even the two most experienced players (Spikes and Hatch) only started last year as frosh. At least most of them have redshirted - that helps. I thought KU was a slim favorite for the north, but now I'd have to say I'd give the get to MU and NU.
  17. I'd give him a B+. The CU game was closer than it should have been, and a lot of that was due to the fake FG which Bo called. Overall, I was very pleased with our progress last season.
  18. it's...IMPOSSIBLE i really don't think that word means what i think it does. Inconceivable. don't bet you're life on a game against a sicilian? Only if death is on the line.
  19. I'm going to say a "break out" player shouldn't be a projected starter. With that in mind, I'll go with Antonio Bell.
  20. I understand this is a message board, but for pete's sake could you at least attempt to spell correctly, use proper capitalization, proper syntax and punctuation? 1. It's Osborne, not osborn. 2. Doctor is a professional title and when the word is abrreviated it should look like this: Dr. 3. It's Pelini, not penili. 4. In a sentence, subjects and verbs must agree in number and tense. I'm not even going to address the absurdities contained in your post. I think that covers that.
  21. You took the words right out of my mouth.
  22. I think the definition of the "spread offense" is fairly general. You don't have to run the ball or have read-option to run a spread offense. TTech runs a spread offense but mostly pass with few runs. New England runs the ball more, but they usually have 3-5 guys split out wide.
  23. FYI, none of our QB's is a senior.
  24. I feel quite free to "dare" it, and you are missing my point here. I'm not saying they are not getting benefits out of playing college football. But they DO NOT getting benefits by EA Sports using them in a video game. What you are describing more closely relates to arguments about whether the university should be allowed to make money from attendance, TV rights, etc. I'm not sure why you think paying your way through school has anything to do with the argument, but I'll go ahead and say that I also put myself through school using a combination of the GI Bill and loans. So we're both paying for school, and we don't agree on this issue.
  25. That wasn't Beck's. While Beck did recruit him as a position coach, Pap was the main recruiter who did the majority of the leg work. So who has Beck recruited?
