  1. I have seen so many posts about Cody Green. 1. To Redshirt or not to Redshirt 2. Will he start at some point this year or next 3. He walks on water Let me ask a question; Did Suh have a position battle this year? No! He had a job and unless he came in out of shape or had a season ending injury the job was his. Why should Lee be any different. Let's assume Lee goes out and has an above average to really good or even great season. As the QB should he really have to go into spring and then Fall camp in a position Battle? No! Again, unless Lee went into the Spring or Fall out of shape or injured for the year, the job should be his unless HE loses it. If he is below average or worse this year then yes there should be a battle, but if Lee has a good or better than good year this year, as we all hope, then in no way shape or form should he have to battle for a job next year. I realize competition is a great thing, but there are certain times and spots where the incumbent should not have a position battle on his hands, but rather a situation where it is his job unless he LOSES it. So many fans have annointed Green the next coming, many of the same people that put Beck in the same category. Maybe Lee struggles or falls on his face, but maybe just maybe he makes us ask "Joe Who" because he turns out to be as good as advertised. As fans we should hope for the latter scenario, the one in which Lee is as good as advertised. After all he is our starter this year. CORRECT?
  2. As fans we have to hope our starter does a great job. My Opinion, we as fans want Cody to redshirt. Why? Lee is gonna make us fans ask "why wasnt he playing last year". He is and will be better than Joe ever thought of being. Due to this, he will start next year also, so having Green redshirt makes the most sense. Should Lee get hurt early in the season and be out for an extended period then i think you may end up seeing a 2 QB system for the remainder of the year. However, should Lee stay healthy, Washington will get the mopup duty and Green will Redshirt.
  3. NewEarth, I actually got your back here. I have heard a lot of comedy in this thread. 1. If Joe had started 1 year, 3 years, or 8 years here HE WAS NEVER GONNA PLAY IN THE NFL. Love Joe just not good enough, not enough talent, lacks arm strength, height, etc. I agree with newearth, a large number of husker fans get a serious (to quote)"boner) about a lot of our players. We love them cuz they play for us but that doesnt make them good at the NFL level. Zac Lee will be a better NFL prospect, doesnt mean he will be better for us but is a better NFL prospect than keller, Joe , and Taylor. This whole post is along the same lines as the ones stating shock and awe about swift and peterson not making it. They were not very good. They did good for us, but at the nfl level they are poor to terrible. There are great college players everywhere that will not be good in the nfl, Joe, tommy, tebow, jason white, josh heupel, the list goes on and on. thank you newearth for stating your opinion
  4. The whole Solich thing is one of the better moments not one of the saddest. If Solich were still here we would be in the same position we were in 2 years ago, only we would have no chance of a brighter future. We have that chance today. Solich needed fired, it was the one and only good thing Pedey did
  5. I think we have to put complete trust in our coaches. they certainly know football better than we do. Anything that can be done to help defense the spread is good by me, since the NCAA isn't going to do anything. IMO the spread works so well because there are unfair advantages across the board for the offense. 1. The lineman can get to the line then stand up. 2. the QB gets under center then backs out and looks 3. skill positions get set and then unset etc. Some simple rule changes were needed to even the playing field for the defenses. 1. Once a player gets set, only one can go in motion. if more than one get out of their set position then it is a penalty 2. if the QB gets under center he has to stay. 3. if a QB gives a head nod at the line of scrimmage or anything that simulates a snap it is a penalty so do the same when the QB from shotgun position picks his leg up to simulate the snap. 4. once you go to the line of scrimmage treat it like a huddle so that no substitutions can be made. I am all for genious on offense and defense, but the rules of the game need to keep up. the principal is to outthink the other coaches. IMO the spread simply gives a lot of unfair advantages to the offense
  6. Right now Swift is in the top 5 anywhere from 3-5 spot is debatable. This time 10 years from now he wont be in the top 10. He will be one of the shorter lived top 5 guys ever
  7. sure O'hanlon has had some tackles for losses, that is going to happen if you play enough snaps. O'hanlon is a good guy but lets not try to muddy the waters. He is not good in run support at all. for ever tackle for a loss there have been 5 complete whiffs on the edge. He cannot make a tackle period if a blocker gets to him. he is bad angles, bad form, bad tackling period. His coverage is bad. I love the guys effort, dont get me wrong, but other than his knowledge of the Defense (im reaching here) O'hanlon doesnt do anything well and most of it is simply below average. I would assume the poster is right and that RT snapped back at coach or something because Bo has proven that one mistake will not send you to the bench. RT had one mistake and it gave KU a TD but i dont see him getting benched for that. Look at the facts, Bo has seen O'hanlon make multiple mistakes in one series and hasnt pulled him

  9. Joe's not a pro prospect for the same primary reason Chase Daniel isn't: height. The biggest O-linemen end up in the NFL and the QB is under center. Neither would be able to see squat. Neither Joe nor Chase have outstanding arm strength either. Chase may stick with an NFL team because of his accuracy and leadership, but Joe is a huge longshot. During the game, the announcers stated that NFL scouts had Chase listed as the #7 QB in the draft. The only QB they could really even compare him to was Brees at NO. He'll probably be a perennial backup his NFL career. I don't think Ganz has any shot at all. If nothing else, his INT to TD ratio will scare most off. As good as the Big 12 QB's are this year, I'm not sure I'd give many/any of them much of a chance at the next level of making big noise. I think Bradford has a good chance to play in the NFL. Other than that i would have to agree with you. The Big 12 has several really good "college" QB's but very few if any NFL level QB's. 7th best QB could mean 6th or 7th round
  10. Mr. Chamberlain, comeon man, you are the epitomy of ROSE COLORED GLASSES. If i can quote from earlier, you said Ganz has "a rocket arm". please man, if you like ganz fine, if you want to defend him fine, but do it honestly. Ganz has a pop gun arm not a rocket arm. in fact his arm is worse than Spano, Witt, and Lee for sure. He is a below avg runner and a sub par decision maker. Keller, while not great, was a better QB in the purest sense of the word. Keller got invited to the Combine, Ganz will not, period. I dont question Bo, but i am curious as to why, when bo arrived, he said all positions are open for competition except QB. I for one think that we have better talent and better players and better gamers sitting on the bench, but Joe is a senior, therefore he is going to play. Fine, just give the backup a series or 2 to get some reps for next year. In regards to the Backup, i hear Lee is slowly but surely overtaking Witt. It seems the more he learns the offense the more his overwhelming ability is coming together. Play Lee a series in the first half and a series in the second half. If by chance we get into a situation like the last 2 games where our QB is playing like doodoo and Lee seems to have his feet under him, leave him in. Ganz does not get a pass at all. Our line has sucked, our running game has sucked, but so has Joe
  11. Man first off learn to spell 2nd you are one of the worst fans i know 3rd we played pretty good saturday. if cody glenn doesnt get hurt we probably win 4th mizzou will lose 2 games and we will win the north 5th we will beat TT this Saturday, Bank on It 6th Joe Ganz is a great player so why play guys that arent near as good 7th Cally is completely in the clear here. his classes are great its just that they havent learned the entire playbook yet and Hello Ryan I dont believe anything i just said except the fact that you need to learn to fricking spell
  12. I am not for firing coaches all the time. I am not for bashing coaches. I realize that we are in a rebuilding process. What i dont realize or understand is our offensive IDENTITY. This is what worries me the most about our rebuilding process. Anyone that watched the game Sat. realized that we need more athletes on both sides of the ball. I have no doubt that Pelini will get those athletes here for the Defense. The offense, now that is another matter. I have a hard time understanding how we are going to get really good offensive players to come here when; 1) we have no identity, 2) we rotate RB(if i am a big time RB i would look elsewhere) 3. It is proven that under this system Frosh WR cant and wont play so why shouldnt a WR prospect look elsewhere. This offensive scheme or lack of scheme scares me to death. Maybe I am wrong but I dont see recruits digging deep for information, i see them seeing the surface of the situation. For Example, a recruit reads that Lucky is the top back in the Big 12. Lucky is one of the top 5 backs in the country ( i realize this may not be true) but the recruits read this and then watch as we split carries 3 ways. As a RB recruit this would scare me off of NU. No back wants to go somewhere where they have to split carries. This is just one example and Lord knows i could be way off base but this is some of the stuff that scares me. Thoughts
  13. I have to say yes. 1. the coach, whether or not he gets it done remains to be seen, but as a fan i am in his corner way more than i ever was BC, because Bo has fire and passion and is truly for NU and not himself. I truly believe he will get it done. 2. we got crushed, but we didnt quit like last year. 3. When someone isnt doing a very good job, this year we see a new person in the game as opposed to the last few when the same players played come hell or high water. We are rebuilding, it was to be expected, but there are some things I, as an arm chair fan, would like to see. 1. If Ganz was a great qb then i would have no problem with him taking every snap. He is not great however, in fact he is barely average. I would love to see the backups get some snaps so that we dont go into next year with no experience. truth be told, the games we win this year we would win with the backups getting some meaningful reps, while the games we lose we are gonna lose no matter who plays. Joe is not a qb that will put us on his shoulders and carry us to a win. we need to get some experience for the others. 2. Young players, especially WR, that cannot redshirt, lets play them. I mean Dennard cant redshirt cuz he plays on ST so lets see if he can chase around some WR with a little more speed and tenacity than say Thorell. Brooks and Henry and Paul and Gilleylan, lets see if they can stretch the field and get open. what do we have to lose 3. Offense, create some formof identity. dont really care what it is but get an identity.
  14. i will preface this with " i truly dont care which one plays" but why the hell should Helu start? because he had one good run? I am all for getting the best guy in there but maybe we could give one of them 25 carries a game and see if they can get it down. hell the way they are doing things you cant judge who is better anyway. honestly i want lucky in there for 20-25 carries as long as they are making him a part of the passing game as well. if they would do that then he is by far the best choice. I still think it needs to be Lucky. if you watch the game again, you can add for yourselves how many times he saved joes butt by picking up the right blitzer or making the block that was necessary. oh yeah, it generally is a bad decision to get a guy completely involved in the offense (running and passing) when he is your best runner in space, your best receiver period, and your best blocker. I like Helu, but the grass is always greener. Whatever they do, whoever they play, stick with it. give someone the damn ball 20-25 times, throw them some and see what happens. RB by committee is BS always has been always will be
  15. how can big name programs across the country. programs better than ours at this time, play FROSH WR. not only play them but make them the go to guys. yet here we hear they "dont know the offense". correct me if i am wrong but all spring didnt we hear a ton about gilleylan (sp?) and all fall didnt we hear how good Khiry Cooper was and isnt will henry 6'6 running a 4.4 forty? How come other true frosh can "learn" the offense at these high powered schools yet hear at NU our potential playmakers that our young "dont know the offense yet" the running game needs to step up, but the ability to pass the ball effectively downfield helps teams run the ball. do you think knoshawn moreno would be what he is if Georgia threw the ball 3 yards all the time
  16. suh was out of line, the first was a late hit, the second frustration. doesnt make either right i still think pelini got the flag not for what was said but because he was out of the box
  17. you are correct here as well, but watch the film, asante saw the play and went where he needed to be, shed blockers and made plays against the run game. Major didnt, he collapsed inside, or tried to follow the play down the line leaving gaping holes in the open field back to the strong side. remember the SS is more of a run stopper than pass defender in a lot of cases. Major created huge problems by not shedding blocks or being out of positionn. yes the dline was wore down, but that makes being in the right spots and making the right reads that much more essential. Also, outside of Glenn watch the LB Wortman was really bad and Dillard not really far behind. one thing that will help this D is if our MLB will step up and be a playmaker which is not happening That could very well be the case, but the best of the worst then is still Asante
  18. a few more observations from my viewing. 1. play calling bad. first series lucky gets 8 yards on 2 carries and 3rd and 2 we thrown some stupid tricky screen. what happened to the "establish the run" theme. was bad all night. it really wasnt that we couldnt run, WE NEVER FRICKING TRIED. 2. QB play was really bad. bad decisions, lack of progression. Joe looked at the primary and then tucked the ball all night. several times he could have stepped up in the pocket and delivered the ball the the 2nd or 3rd WR but never tried just tucked it and ran. when he did throw the ball it was late or very poorly thrown. now before you go quoting stats to me understand almost half his yards came against a soft zone in the 4th quarter. however, in the money times, he was really bad 3. o-line, smith and huff were awful. smith may be athletic as hell but he is getting owned and this is not the first game, huff the same. when you have 2 lineman getting owned on the same side it equal bad news. contrary to popular opinion, vtech did not stack the box like we expected. we abandoned the run completely and they got to the qb over the left side with a 4 man rush a ton. 3 i-backs and a combined 15 carries, you tell me where we tried to run.
  19. you are correct here as well, but watch the film, asante saw the play and went where he needed to be, shed blockers and made plays against the run game. 20. Then make judgements. All over the place people are calling for Major over Asante. Yes, Asante got hurt went back in and got burnt. Happens. Rewatch the game, and watch the containment and execution of stopping the run in the first half and compare it to the second half. The first half (with Asante) we contained Taylor, we stopped the run pretty well. the second half was a whole different story(with Major). Major was out of position play after play, he lost containment several times allowing Taylor outside, they didnt throw much so we dont know how he would have done in pass coverage, but the 3 times I have watched the game, i get the same results. We were much better defensively with Asante over Major. i have no dog in the hunt so to speak so i just want the best to play, and from my observations (watching the film) Asante was way way way better than Major. the one we need to be complaining about is O'hanlon. are you fricking kidding me. he tackles noone, he just dives at their feet. there was one play where taylor got wide down the sideline. Ohanlon gave chase with an angle and got passed by our LB who had to make the play. oh yeah, ohanlon was chasing him in a horsehoe pattern meaning he ran blindly to the line the did a uturn and gave chase, however RT was in for one series in which he made every play including 2 huge hits and we never saw him again. Asante is far from the problem, in fact, our defense was much worse in the second half with Major in regards to their responsibilities. ohanlon = nice story but need playmakers i.e. RT
  21. I put the running game woes, significantly on the coaches. We heard all off season about a change of philosophy in the running game. However, we have seen zero changes as far as i am concerned. We have a line with a lot of potential ( in a straight forward style running game) This line is not that great in the outside zone blocking scheme. Yet, a vast majority of our running plays have been stretches and read plays. We have seen very few straight off tackle type of plays. We have seen very little of the type of running we were told we would see which is smashmouth. I believe our line could be significantly more dominant if we put them in situations where they could line up and blow someone of the ball as opposed to dancing down the line with them. I am not ready to freak or moan about anything in regards to this team. I am not now nor have i ever been a fan of the WCO and this is primarily why. I would really like to see how our line would perform given the chance to either man block or at worse inside zone block as opposed to all the outside zone blocking they have done to date. If our running philosophy changed, i think the O-Line could potentially be a unit talked about every week
  22. ray 233, i may not like to but i will always admit when i am wrong. and it appears that i was wrong here. Big Red Breakfast, O'hanlon is going to start over Rt. Dont know as i believe it will stay this way all year, but congrats to that young man and hey, i would rather have him play if he is in the right spots as opposed to a guy out of position all the time just looking for the big hit. I believe this may be what RT needs, maybe he assumed he was a lock but now we will see him shore up his play. I think it is obvious that if both understand the D the same then RT would play as he is the better pure player. I was wrong, i hate being wrong, but i was, lol
  23. yeah i was at practice and asante and thenarse were with the 1's the whole time
  24. I highly doubt this to be true conidring practice today was in shorts and helmets. There was no real practice simply mental reps and walkthrough.
  25. you can look at this in more than one way. yes they may be gawdy numbers for the good, but they are also gawdy for the bad. 23 picks is a ton, a number that will cost us more than one game. I certainly hope that Ganz does a great job, but i certainly dont think we have anything to go by. In fact i would argue that if we were to base his success this year by what we saw last year, then he would not have a very good year. why do i say this, we threw an ungodly amount in the last 3 games. 1 game we had zero chance so we just kept chucking it and the 4 picks really should have been 7. the 2nd game was against a dismal ksu where cally was trying to keep his job by running up the score. the 3rd game was the only crunch time game and honestly, Ganz sh#t the bed with 2 horrific passes that led to our downfall. Therefore if i was going to base this year off of last i would be extremely worried. Thats why i dont base this year on last, it would give me an ulcer.
