  1. i think it's like Matt Davison said during his in-game interview: "There are questions that NEED to be answered this week." Pedersen didn't take callers on the show. I can see why he wouldn't want to take lunatic calls, but he owes an explanation to fans directly.
  2. coming from a family whose father coached very successfully in at the college level for over 25 years, i can say with some levelheadness that indeed, it is important to have some kind of option game. this is true for the high school and college games because the players aren't as conditioned, disciplined, or trustworthy 100% of the time. when running a play that has different 'options', all it takes is ONE breakdown by one defender to get a good gain. then later, to keep them guessing, to keep them off balance. an 'option' can be run out of the gun (which is like WVU), out of a multiple set (like Florida), or out of the I (like old Nebraska U). the way we ran it in the 80's was straight triple option and clearly couldn't be run today. a quick trap by the FB or pull it and attack the D-ends and wait to pitch or keep would, nowadays, get the QB hurt or would not gain much yardage because safeties and OLB are sooo much faster and have much better range today. in the 90's the triple option morphed into belly options, counter options, and read options. couple that with great power running (i.e. with a fullback lead on almost all plays), and good effective play-action passing and it is possible with the right players to be fully effective today. yes, a more capable thrower and a more agile running type quarterback are needed, along with countless hours of repetition and chemistry. i personally think these hybrid type offenses run by WVU and Florida, where the QB is a runner, passer, and distributor is MUCH more effective at the COLLEGE level where great talent is great talent, but there will always be a weak link in the D. having a few option plays keeps the D honest and makes them prepare in pratctice for a long time to just defend a few basic plays. in today's college football world you have to be able to spread the field and open lanes against the defense. but to keep them in check it is important to attack with plays that force them to defend and be responsible. and that is what the option does.
  3. the difference was, we had in our 2nd and 3rd teams and were just running ISO's. like i said, if they wanted to score again, just go for it. i truly don't have a problem with that. but to have in your starters the whole game and then FAKE a field goal, that's rubbing it in the face of the players who are young men and beaten already. just going for it and running a play, that's challenging the coaches to put players in to stop it. that's okay.
  4. thanks for making me laugh. i really needed it. it's not the end of the world when retards are happy to swim laps.
  5. i was classless to fake a field goal. they should have just gone for it. what he was trying to do was put nails in for the next few years. imagine that, setting a tone.
  6. i know this thread is beat to absolute death but i gotta say it my way to feel better even for a minute... i was watching the game last night and all i could think was "Man, this defense we're running looks familiar." Then i realized, as Mizzou wasnt' slowing down and kept getting point after point, that it looked like the EXACT SAME f'ing DEFENSE WE RAN AGAINST TEXAS TECH AND GAVE UP 70 POINTS. So at this point in the night I quit screaming, "Rush the passer! Send more than 3 down lineman!" and just watched to see if there would be any adjustments from TWDCE (The Worst Def. Coordinator Ever) and sure enough, nope. So now I've been driven to insanity. All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy All Coz and no fire makes i am i a dull boy now, how could i type that so many times in a row? isn't that kind of a waste of time and just plain stupid? well, ask Cozgrove how he could run the same f,ucking defense 80 times in a row and in two different games? because i've gone completely insane watching him destroy our tradition!!!
  7. Davison's interview was the highlight of the game. Seriously, it was. what he said about our program and such was RIGHT ON THE MONEY. Players don't believe in themselves or each other, how could a program only 6 years removed from playing in a NC game in the Rose Bowl be so far off, there are some questions that NEED to be answered this week. Fans don't have to apologize for high expectations, we have a rich tradition that needs to be fulfilled, the passion and emotion of the college game has turned into a professional one. etc... I just sat there and nodded my head in silent agreement. I like Callahan as a leader and offensive coach. I think he can recruit well and I think his players trust him and play hard for him. I even think he was a steal to get in here at the right time for the program's turning point. But wins and losses don't lie. Neither do the big game stats and the numbers against ranked teams and teams on the road. We have had our rays of sunshine against Michigan and such, but like my brother said last night, "When was the last time you felt truly sastisfied with a Nebraska game." (let alone season?) I texted my friend after the game was over. He is a K-state fan (who, like most K-state fans was actually calling me and talking sh#t last nite) who knows nothing about having a sick feeling in your gut about the only team that truly matters to you. And for the first time ever, ever in my life I told him that I just don't think we are that good or that our coaches have an emphasis on passion and fire and guts and intensity. I admitted for the first time EVER in my life that maybe Nebraska just isn't very good. I completely agree with you California Husker. I will still go to the KU and CU games this year and cheer and support. I always will. But today is the day I quit having expectations and gut feelings about winning all of our games and maybe an upset or two and just somehow maybe, maybe getting into a championship game. The Huskers will have to earn back my blind loyalty and will have to play with a lot of fire and passion before I look to them without gumption. They may play for Nebraska, but they are not playing like Nebraska.
  8. let it be by the code...
  9. we ask for a chance that's fair...
  10. yes, the vagina monologue was a bit much...sorry.
  11. but according to elmo, sacks don't really matter. unless you beat 2 top 10 teams and are ranked 6 after only being in existence for 10 years. then they kind of matter. oh, and when the QB is on his back for a 5 yard loss, then they matter. and i guess when it's 3rd and 6 and a sack happens and the other team has to punt. then it matters.
  12. you from chi-town, spider and scorpions? i used to drink gallons of gooseisland when i lived there.
  13. BTW starting #3. (add a little Guiness, makes the BM taste like a steak...a vodka steak)
  14. yes, robsker. i hope they dominate and i hope daniel(s) plays like a hurt vagina. HAHA!!!
  15. let's do this!!! pass the vodka and BM mix. mostly pass the vodka.
  16. i got my first bloody mary going. i needed it after robsker took me to task on the mindset thread. my bro is coming down from Ft. Collins and we are settling into our game chairs at 6:30. it's going to be a fun ride tonight. here's to takin one down!! GO BIG RED
  17. iwould like to see some sprint draws and some quick count traps. something thats gets the ball to the line of scrimmage in a hurry.
  18. listen here robsker: i have played college football. my dad played and coached @ Nebraska under Devaney and Osborne. then was a college coach for 25 years. don't lecture me on what it takes to play at this level. i was not fortunate to play for Nebraska but was on a very good DII school and started as a freshman. who are you to question my manhood? i get up sore in the morning and hurt in places i never thought i would and i'm only 30, all because i sold out on every play i was in because it could have been my last. and here's Q and Ruud talking about having their feelings hurt?!? all i was saying was, pertaining to the original thread post was the mind set of the Huskers seems to be galvinizing and getting some intensity from our younger players. i can say whatever the hell i want to after Q goes in front of the media and says he's not having 'fun'. if it takes a few younger guys like Culbert, Castille, and Dillard to shake things up and step up to the plate, then i hope they do. if you don't want to read some positive opinions or even some un-constructive criticism then don't come on this board. i can say whatever i want. and if i was at a roundtable discussion with those guys, i would say, "hey, i know you're trying your best, but quit bitching about the media and fans and the pressure and go sell your body out to make a few plays and shut everybody up." i would say that, because i had people say it to me. go big Red
  19. i have read a few things from Culbert and Dillard and especially Keller about how the team is bonding and circling the wagons. Slauson has stepped up about the negativity being motivating. haven't heard much from Q or Ruud about how it's not fun and their vaginas hurt recently. sounds like Dillard may start and Culbert will see some good action. we need to run the ball so maybe Castille will get on the field. my point is, some poor play early in the year has exposed some of the softies and the younger guys who are simply hungry to play fast and get nasty are rising to the top. let the cream rise baby. let it rise.
  20. actually, this guy is hilarious. i sersiously wonder if he talks like this in real life. i would say, "Yes. Yes, he does."
  21. i was at the 13 inning Rockies v Padres game. i had free tix to tonights game. but priorities are priorities. i would hate to get text messages to see what's going on for the Huskers just to watch baseball.
  22. a couple weeks ago, i had a post about Coz that interviewed one of his old players. in the article the former linebacker said maybe the game has passed him by. i think this confirms it. now his assistants are spewing his rhetoric from a guy who coached 20 years ago.
