i told you guys a few weeks ago he makes his predictions on emotion, not fact...here's a fact--for some reason he has a bone to pick with the Cornhuskers and their fans. here's some emotion--forgive him Lord for he knows not what he does. And forgive us of the carnage we reap when we crush, son, crush.

good thoughts. i was thinking the same thing. i would hate for him to get frustrated at seeing the field as a true freshman, then being in a backlog at a postition he was switched to at end of a season....he needs to be on the field somewhere.

it's gotta be colorado. it's closest to Nebraska, it's right down the interstate, we own the buffs, i see so much Husker gear out here it's not even funny. i was working out at my the gym the other day and this really old lady was taking the tour to maybe join. and she came over and talked to me for 25 minutes about being from Nebraska and how she just loves it out here ever since her husband died and she moved to denver because she has met so many people from the Great State, and they're so easy to talk to cuz we all have the Cornhuskers in common. all because i was wearing my red hat with N. i have lived in Kansas, colorado and am from Nebraska. i lived in chicago for a 1.5 years and travel to NYC in the fall every year. i am also in dallas once a week almost and atlanta quite a bit. (i travel for work) the most Husker fans i see are in Colorado. but that's just my experience.

i think receiver is one area callahan put in immediate help when he got here. he brought in some good talent. side note: this article sums up why i think most freshman should redshirt. more than a few players on our team entering their 3rd year are saying "i'm finally playing up to speed and getting the picture. what it takes to play. my first year was a whirlwind."

as they are licking their wounds, nevada will be asking themselves why they ever signed up to play us...that bad of a beatdown wasn't worth the money!!

poopbear, i'm not just calling you names. i feel like it's appropriate to call you that cuz you sh#t all over this board with your negativity. it's one thing to play devil's advocate and another to not even see a bright side to ANYthing. to keep arguing that TO never went below .500 is a little short sighted to the fact that the game has changed sooo much since the 70's and 80's: fewer scholarships, more NCAA oversight, more teams, better facilities, longer schedules, everyone works out year round now, more money, more expectations, higher salaries, better competition, different ranking system, more bowl games, hell! we're not even in the same gawd dang conference!! etc..etc..etc..etc..etc...the game has changed!! to see what we did in the 90's and what SC is doing now--there may be one team per decade who has a great run and then everyone catches up. like your some damn perfectionist? i have lived my whole life (30yrs) and not seen us lose to KU, OSU, mizzery, 9 wins, bowl games, et al. i wish those records were still intact but they're not. it was time for a change. we were certainly behind the curve in recruiting and philosophy. you CANNOT argue that. even TO knew it!! we are going to be fine and you need to show some patience and take the lumps with everyone else. it's not like any one of us are bigger Cornhusker fans than anyone else. and if your 'perfectionist expectations' aren't met with this team, then jump on someone else's band wagon. i'm going to stick it out for better or worse. and have a good, positive attitude about it.

i actually see some of poopbear's points. he makes a little sense in his arguments, and has stayed pretty consistent with most of his talking points. it doesn't change my mind about the change and the progress we needed and have made. i just think a little reality HAS to play a role in dealing with our current situation. plain and simple: something happened that night in Boulder when CU trounced us. a cosmic shift in the football world occured. "mike tyson was beat by buster douglas." we just have not been the same since. everyone kicked the top dog while it was down. but now the dog has a new owner. and to teach an old dog new tricks, it takes time, patience, repition, cadence, and language. we are learning to piss in the neighbors yard instead of our own (see ya Beck & Co.). we have quit chasing our tail and now are ready to establish some turf. we were ALL loyal to our former owners, that's what makes this state special. we are being fed with top recruits, a new dog house, fresh grass, and let off the rope. we will still sniff the wrong butt sometimes, but mostly are hunting the right prey. poopbear--you have every right to feel how you do and be pessimistic about the future (and the past) but, i think people here just want to be positive and have a bright outlook. especially since we're undefeated right now. we realize you have some valid points and just want to be level-headed about your assesment (some things i actually agree with you) but damn kid, nearly every post you write is negative. how about a few things you do like about the program every once in a while?

2 things i'll agree with that article 1. that our 'stars' aren't performing as great, as fast as some at other programs. 2. that callahan's system might out complicate itself sometimes, especially if we expect kids to play early. however, each of these can be remedied because the 5*'s won't have to do everything and the more depth we build will give youngsters time to learn the complicated system. maybe he didn't inheirit Baylor, but we have seen a paradigm shift of a program like few in the country. My dad was great friends with a lot of the people who were in the 'old regime'. they told him Osborne knew of the difficulties that lay ahead in the Big XII and that there was some writing on the wall about what kind of success he could have with recruiting challenges and expectations, after 3 NC's in 4 years. he didn't leave an empty nest to Solich, but he left one that was in need of a makeover. Solich failed in that makeover. Callahan is having some successes and most of us feel is headed in the right direction. yeah, stats don't lie, but they don't tell a human side of the story either. Nebraska will never fall out of the football elite. But sometimes, changes must be made that take a little time to ensure future success.

i didn't know he was from Tonga. man, i tell you what!! we had two dudes from tonga on our team, those people from that little island are some FREAKS physically. never really very tall, but could rip trees out of the ground and would run across fire, nails, and thumb tacks, while carrying three cement bags over their shoulders . tough and fast, baby!!

maybe Lucky is hurt worse than we thought, or maybe they are just being cautious to make SURE he is rested and ready for the long haul. maybe they know he will be okay and doesn't need a lot of the reps the new guys do. i know he needs to practice, for sure, but if they're switching freshman around, maybe they're just seeing if new guys can adapt and perform. in other words, the starters are set and they're trying to find some depth. another good thing to think about is if prince is moving back to RB, the DB situation may be improving to the point they can test players in other positions!!

btw, i really like Lucky and think he's due for a breakout season. he has size, speed, and agility. if he can get some attitude and some good breaks, he could have a great year!!

no, i wasn't referring to Lucky demanding to play, he came where he saw an opportunity, like you said. corey ross played a pretty big role that year. some kids you hear them talk to the media and they think they should play right away. (i remember philip dillard getting a little cocky as a freshman, we saw how that turned out.) i know coaches, especially callahan at Nebraska needs to show he's willing to play his best players and meet booster demands of gettting high profile recruits and playing them. but i think most Husker fans are smarter than that. if he would've redshirted Luck, i for one, would have said, "Wow, he's taking a big risk not playing his 5* right away, but i understand they are building for the future." kids get hurt, transfer, flunk out, get arrested, etc...i know that. but personally (and i mean personally, it happened to me) i think a kids confidence can get crushed worse by having failure early by trying to play too soon, than being told they have HUGE expectations of them when they are truly ready and need to redshirt. now, adrian peterson obviously was ready (1,900 yds as a frosh). but so was his team.... i know there are 311 ways we could look at this so it is redundant to talk about cuz each situation is different. some kids need to redshirt and some need to play right away. Luky hasn't underperformed but hasn't blown anyone away either. if our team was better and had players that had been in the system longer in front of him that could take some of the pressure off him, i think it would have helped. we weren't going to compete for BIG XII championships that year anyway, so let's allow the players to grow. okay, enough from me. i hope Lucky gets over his concussion and runs for 1300 yds and receives for 250 and scores 15 td's. then we can put all this to rest. then the hype can really be there for next year.

live up to the hype? No. played well as a youngster? Yes. he came here instead of USC cuz he wanted to be a part of the rebuilding process. he wanted to contribute to a proud tradition and stake his claim away from home and on his own. like skersfan said, some kds mature at different times. it sounds like (according to him) he kind of started 'getting it' this summer. i truly believe there are very few players who can REALLY contibute as a freshman unless their team is the shiznit. like adrian peterson and reggie bush and ahman green, these guys played on teams that only made THEM better not the other way around. Lucky came to a situation where the team wasn't great and he, by himself, wasn't going to make it better. yet, he was thrust into a playing position on an offense he didn't understand, with skills not yet developed, and in a completely different world from highschool in north hollywood. he showed some flashes of athleticism and made some decent plays, but probably could have redshirted and really been ready for a breakout season this year, his third. it kind of sucks these kids almost demand playing time to consider a school and try to rush to greatness. instead of soaking up the college atmosphere and becoming a better player over time they all want to be Bo Jackson. not everyone is going pro; Lucky may get his chance yet. but could you imagine if he could have just chilled, gotten bigger and stronger and learned the offense, all while not having to live up to the hype as a true freshman on an avergae team? He might be getting twice the hype and exposure and actually be ready for the NFL after this year or next. just my thoughts on freshman playing too early. i know some guys are ready and we all want instant gratification, but then reality sets in and guys don't play as well or as long as they should.

these better go to a cornhusker fan. i would bid on them right now but my wife is having a baby about 3 days before this game.
