  1. You know, while I don't buy into the whole conspiracy angle, I wouldn't at all be shocked if it were true. Remember, Disney Corp. (who owns ESPN and ABC) cringe whenever they have to cover us because we're not worth their time and money--their constant attacks and ugliness toward the Nebraska program on their various media channels reinforces this thought. So what better way to not have to deal with Nebraska than by making sure they're an also-ran from here on out... And yes, I know it's not true. I'm just saying I wouldn't be shocked if this was found out to be the truth down the road. Companies like Disney and Belo Corp. are just pure evil.
  2. Well, considering Callahan has yet to lay a goose egg, I'd consider this post to be ill-timed and illogically formed, at best. I guess the question we should be posing to you is why you want to see the 'Huskers do so bad that they fire their coach? Unless you've got a personal grudge/vendetta against the coaches and AD, you shouldn't be hoping they tank. And if you're thinking that firing Callahan is going to magically fix things...well, perhaps you need to go get some more of that wonderful TexAss education they've got down here and learn some football. I am assuming you need to learn football also since you want to criticize someone for asking if Cally's extension will keep him from getting fired anytime soon. Don't attack someone else's ability to understand the game unless they call Lucky a center and Keller a linebacker. No--it's apparent you and your friend have no time to learn anything about football since you're busy spewing venom and focusing on your anti-Bill Callahan slant. Your ignorance is what is bringing this program down, bottom line. Do the rest of 'Husker Nation a favor and go root for someone else--you have no idea what it is to be a Nebraska fan, and people like yourself that don't want to see our kids succeed are some of the lowest scum on God's green Earth. I hear Colorado could use a few fans like yourself...
  3. more like completly true. Huskerboard has been pathetic that last 2 weeks cuz of it. Honestly, any of the message boards have been pathetic as of late because of the influx of ignorant venom spewers. What' even more pathetic is how they claim to be 'fans' but are licking their chops, waiting for the next Nebraska loss so they can come on a message board and claim their supposed intellectual superiority. Frankly, anyone calling for anyone's head other than Coz at this point either a) is ignorant of how the game of football operates, B) bitter beyond any sort of understanding or reconciliation, or c) is a complete tool that gets off on hatred and venom.
  4. Agreed. And anyone with a pulse knows that Cally is an offensive-minded coach--naturally, the offense is flourishing under his guidance. Add to that the fact that we've actually got the special teams being...well...'special' again (unlike during the end of the Solich regime), and anyone asking for a housecleaning really hasn't got a clue. And I guess my concern is that we're taking consolation from a fan whose team can't even properly count the number of National Championships they have...

  6. And that's what it pretty much boils down to for me anyway. Had the D looked effective against USC, the loss wouldn't have stung as bad. Had the D played great against Ball St but Ball St came to play and played well, there wouldn't have been any problems. But the D was nowhere to be found during both games. And that's what I think most fans have heartburn with. Agreed, though I'll do you one better and say if we had even any semblance of defense, we would have taken that game from USC.
  7. -Keller -Receiving Corps -Offensive line during pass protection -Special teams overall -Hill emerging as another receiving threat We've got quite a few good things about this team--if we get a decent defense put on this year, then we're easily back in the Big XII title hunt. Hell, we were only a decent defense away from putting away USC--our offense and special teams were doing extremely well against them until CozBohl implemented his 'Matador 2' defense.
  8. Does Sam have a twin brother with eligibility that we can put on defense to fire them up? Yeah, we've got some good kids on defense, but as yesterday's conference indicated, they have no steam behind them. We need someone to step up and be the fire to create that steam...
  9. CozBohl should be gone at the end of the year...whether that be by way of a 'promotion' or he steps down of his own volition. But he's already being taken out of the loop--that's the death knell in college football. So, I guess what I'm saying is that while I understand the need to do this, threads like this are moot--the issue has already been decided.
  10. Actually, the passing game has been excellent, but our rushing game has been less than acceptable. Excellent pass protection from our O-Line, but horrible run blocking. Regardless, they are improved and are doing well. They are a bright spot, and a definite sign of progress for this team.
  11. Agreed--you're WAY off base here. Add to that the fact that Octo already feels bad for making comments like he did, and the kid's been punished enough. Give the kid a break, and let him focus on Saturday and his schoolwork.
  12. 1.Monte Kiffin- isnt he like 70? Might as well get McBRIDE same age 2.Marvin Sander- I love him for defensive Back coach as for DC not sure if he's shown enough to take over whole team. 3. Dan McCarney- Please are you kidding me? Why don't we bring back Kevin Steele if your going for failed Big 12 Coaches. That's funny--that failed Big XII Coach Kevin Steele is getting love down at 'Bama and the rest of the SEC.
  13. Agreed. Octavian and Bowman are going to be the saviors of this defense from an emotional standpoint. I hope they step up and require 1000% from everyone going forward.
  14. 'committee'? oi! that don't sound good. is this solid or just a rumor? It's in between solid and just a rumor right now. The folks I've heard this from have been on about a couple of other issues (like Murtha's injury pre-USC), but I wouldn't, say, bet money that it's happening. If I had a gun to my head, I'd believe it to be fact. Whether or not that pans out, we may not know until the end of the season.
  15. I ask this because certain 'well-informed' folks on other boards have intimated that CozBohl has quietly been relieved of his DC title and is only now coaching the Linebackers, with the Defense being run by committee/Callahan. If that's the truth of the matter, can the rest of the staff get it done? Folks in the SEC were high on our defensive line coach when we got him, Elmo (despite last game) has actually done alright (this year) with our secondary (last game they were bad, but they did well the other three...), and we've got coaches like Watson that are known to carve defenses up...and one would assume you would have to know how a defense works before you can dissect them. Anyway, is there any hope for a MeeChicken-style turnaround for this team, or are we doomed to a 6-6 season, a toilet bowl, and a mass suicide in Nebraska that makes Jonestown look like nothing?
  16. We need to hold off on giving them to all starters at the beginning of the year, and dole out the Blackshirts sparingly. Of course, it would be better if we didn't have a DC that had no clue what was going on with the defense, tradition or otherwise. Could someone maybe try to get Kiffin or Steele in here to be DC...please?
  17. So far, nothing, but my understanding is that Vs. and Fox Sports still have options on it that have yet to expire?... Otherwise, we'll be crashing Huskers.com in a couple of weekends...
  18. Some folks have been giving the offensive line grief for the way they played...and from what happened, our O-Line didn't suffer until our offense became one-dimensional (because our defense played Matador more than defender...). Our O-Line was at a numerical disadvantage, which led to the piss-poor ground game and the two interceptions IMO. But you're right--our offense was doing well until that point, and a decent defense (not even the best in the land...just one that could occasionally stop the run) would have helped to give us a win and/or keep it extremely tight. That's why the people that are calling for Callahan's head right now are looking so out of touch--we have improved as a team, but we're still not 100% where we need to be. But the Big XII title (depending if OU is legit or not, which no one knows currently) is still available. We just need Cally to get a better defensive coordinator for the long haul if he wants to elevate the team to the next level.
  19. I think we should 'clean house' and hire Bugeater at every coaching position. He seems to have the answer for everything. Only if you want a team that sucks worse than Notre Dame. Seriously--we've improved since '03 on offense and special teams. Our defense is what is lacking, and I don't think Coz will ever fix it (based on past performance history at Wisconsin and here.) Maybe we can get Monte Kiffin to come in and be Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator? Maybe Charlie will come out of retirement for us? I guess my question is who is out there that would be a good defensive coordinator for us? Dan McCartney?
  20. Agreed, but USC didn't 'dominate' our offense until they were put in a position to be one-dimensional. And our special teams are a hell of a lot better than they were during the Solich era. As I've said before--if we had a defense that could have stopped the run even JUST occasionally, we win that game. We're getting there, but we need to have patience, lest we end up like Notre Dame.
  21. Agreed. Other than Callahan keeping Coz on, I have no qualms with how he's been working Nebraska. I think we've progressed beyond our 2003 squad (so far) on offense and special teams...but on defense, well, I've officially joined the 'Fire Coz' bandwagon this week.
  22. Agreed. And you may not have seen it, but our receivers blocked well too. Overall, our offense is vastly improved over where it was circa 2003. Same thing with our special teams play (which, other than that fluke fumble that went USC's way...) which I thought was outstanding. It's just too bad our defense seems to have regressed since 2003.
  23. Agreed. Our offense and special teams were actually good Saturday--yeah, Lucky couldn't get squat, but Cody Glenn looked good, and our passing game was excellent. If we could have peeled one or two of those nine out of the box early on, we would have been able to run the ball...which we did a little bit after we passed extremely well against them. And don't lump the defensive secondary w/the rest of the defense (and Doc Oct)--they did an excellent job against the USC receivers, and didn't have problems until they spent the better half of the evening compensating for our poor front seven. Callahan can stay--he and Watson are the real deal on offense. Cosgrove on defense, though...I'd donate money to the University to buy out his contract and get a real defensive coordinator in here.
  24. I believe...and I hope the rest of you do too.
