  1. Thanks! I was just writing to a friend of mine who went to OU and remains a Sooner fan to the core. We've had so much fun ribbing each other about the various games over the years. It IS sad that we won't get to play you guys anymore. If there was a school that I would love to take along with us to the Big 10 it would be you guys. Best wishes on the game on Saturday. It will be a Homecoming like no other. -ladyhawke~
  2. http://espn.go.com/college-football/bcs I can't believe Missouri is ahead of us! -ladyhawke~
  3. Ok, please correct me if I'm wrong, but when I watched the BCS standings on tv just awhile ago, they had Missouri ahead of Nebraska! What is up with that? We beat them dang good and we're going to our championship. Why would they be ahead of us? Please tell me I'm wrong! -ladyhawke~
  4. It's already been established in this thread, they received both the border war trophy, and a big xii north trophy. I apologize. I didn't see the post about them getting the border war trophy. How sad for our boys that we didn't get the trophy at our game. Thanks, -ladyhawke~
  5. Frost is not a candidate. He hasn't even been an Offensive Coordinator yet! That wasn't the question. The question was WOULD HE BE a valid candidate. The issue I have with Watson is the inconsistency. When we play with such passion and power like we've played against Missouri and Oklahoma State and even against Colorado I have to ask Where was that same passion/power when we played Texas or Iowa State or Texas A & M? I just don't get it. Same coach-same kids? What happened? I'm serious-could someone explain to me why we're so inconsistent? Were these just 'off games' for us? Was it just not having our first string quarterback playing? I believed that was it for awhile, but not after what I saw Friday night. So why the inconsistency? Thanks, -ladyhawke~ P.S. I think that Bo (and Dr. Tom) will make the decision as to whether we need to switch OC's. I posted the question out of curiosity, not because I was trying to start a 'Let's get rid of Watson' thread.
  6. I think it's a crime that he's not a finalist. Here is the way they determine the Groza: Prior to the start of each college football season, the Lou Groza Award Watch List consisting of 30 players is released. This Watch List is determined based on statistics from the previous season and preseason expectations. Information is received from national media, school sports information directors and other ranking sources. However, all Division I-A kickers are eligible for the coveted award. During the season the Groza Awards committee monitors the success of all kickers on a national level. Weekly, beginning in early September the award recognizes the three outstanding kickers of the week based on the previous week’s play. Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award committee announces its 20 semi-finalists in early-November. From this list, a panel of over 300 experts selects the top three finalists for the award in late November. That same group then selects the national winner. (Here is the website: http://www.lougrozaaward.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=pages.theaward&x=7001241) -ladyhawke~
  7. That was the Border War trophy-NOT Co-Big 12 North trophy. The Kansas-Missouri game is HUGE down there and they give a trophy for that win. didn't see him there just the playsers holding up the trophy
  8. If Shawn Watson were to get the boot who would you predict would take his place? My husband and I were wondering about that and he wondered how Scott Frost would do in that position. Scott is at Oregon right now. Would he be a valid candidate? -ladyhawke~
  9. I agree but Cody did well! The offense really stepped up their game today. FABULOUS WIN!!! Onward to Texas!! -ladyhawke~
  10. After I read his column this morning I thought-Man! I thought he was on OUR side? Blah!
  11. Sorry, my bad-(getting over a bad cold-codine makes me a little foggy brained) I totally agree with you! I'm still mad about last nights' game too! We were so hosed!!! I don't like it that Missouri is ahead of us but it makes sense to me and this is why: The AP poll ranking is by sportswriters and sportscasters-right? That means that every Texas loving sportswriter and sportscaster is going to vote against Nebraska. So it's logical to me that Missouri moved ahead of us based on the hate that Texas feels for NU. I'm thinking they voted for Missouri and Oklahoma just because the wanted Nebraska to go as low as possible on the polls. The Coaches Poll is voted on by the Division 1 coaches. They have us ahead of Missouri. I'll just be glad when we're out of this conference. Texas is like a cancer. They bully their way into a conference, ruin it then move on. It will be interesting to see how long the big 12 survives. I predict in 5 years it will be dissolved. Mizzou didn't play Texas. Also, when Mizzou played A&M it was actually 11 on 11.
  12. Duh, maybe because we beat them soundly and would have beaten them even more handily had our QB not been injured. And they also have 2 losses.. There's no doubt that we beat them soundly BUT they beat A & M. They also beat Texas. We did not. But quit your whining-we were ahead of Missouri in the Coaches Poll. To me that's a better indicator of our true performance. I'm sure the coaches watched our game and saw how we were hosed by the refs.
  13. I expected they would move ahead of us as they had beaten A & M. BUT! We are still ahead of A & M. It's not a bad place to be. Hopefully, it will motivate our boys to play their best come Friday.
  14. I would like to see Rex Burkhead given a shot a qb. When they play the Rexcat I've just been waiting for him to throw a pass. Could be cool-he could BE another Joey Ganz.
  15. I think it might be different in the Big 10. I think that Bo, coming from Ohio, played for Ohio State, played in the Big 10 will make a difference. As for other coaches not going 'bezerk' during the game: Did anyone see Iowa State's coach during last night's game? He was every bit as livid at the officiating of their game than Bo was at ours. When you're getting hosed for something you didn't do, you will get a little 'hot under the collar' to say the least. And about him yelling at Martinez: He was trying to get him fired up. Just because you're a 'star quarterback' doesn't mean you can sit and sulk after you get hurt. You need to be in there motivating your guys to play harder. Pelini saw that Martinez wasn't doing that so gave him an earful. I also think that because it's so noisy sometimes (and not just at last night's game) that Bo exaggerates his speech so he can be heard. He had every right to be angry. Anyone watching that game who has any football sense at all saw what happened-even people from A & M commented that they knew the refs gave them that game. A & M knows it won this game by their '12th Man'=He was wearing stripes. ladyhawke~
  16. I was just reading the comments on the College Station's newspaper website. A & M knows they didn't really win this game. Here are a couple of samples: "We definitely had the refs on our side tonight. If we can book these refs every game we might win more. A wins a win." "Most of the comments already tell the story. Nebraska feels the big 12 officials were not going to allow them to win this game, and A&M feels knows they were on the receiving end. I am not a fan of either of these teams, but wow, this is without a doubt a homer job by the big 12 officials. I've heard Nebraska fans early in the year say they weren't going to get many breaks this year in conference games because of their decision to leave the conference. I can't help to think that Nebraska only feels better tonight, about leaving a corrupt conference as the big 12. Those schools who are left in the big 12 may think they stuck it to a team tonight who dissed them by leaving the conference. As an outsider looking in, you might as well call it the Texas 10 conference. UT and A&M control the conference, anybody who thinks otherwise is part of the corruption." Sad game...I just hope we can get our crap together by Friday night against Colorado. I also wonder how we'll play against Oklahoma (I'm hoping we'll play them and NOT Oklahoma State) -ladyhawke!
  17. I hope there is some way that both MO and KU can come to the Big 10. My sister-in-law, who was born/raised in Nebraska but lives in MO and is now a die hard Tiger fan, totally bit my head off when I sent her the 'Farmaggedon' piece from this board! She totally blames Nebraska! So for my family's sake I hope they get to come along. Blah! We didn't start the fire!! -ladyhawke~
  18. Now we know why so many people 'hate' Nebraska and blame them for the break up of the Big 12! The media is fueling this. That interviewer was a total jerk! Suh was class personified! He did NOT take the bait that crusty 'fisherman' was casting! Thanks Suh for representing the Big Red! We'll be following you with the Tigers this fall!
  19. Hey 'Duffman' This is brilliant! and hilarious! I hope it comes to fruition. The Omaha World Herald even referred to 'Farmageddon'. Did you create this? So funny! I love it paired with the picture of the farmer leaning on his rake/hoe and an nuclear bomb exploding in the backgroun. What a great rivalry this will be! Much better than the Colorado faux rivalry. As to all the folks who think that Nebraska is the reason the Big 12 broke up? Sorry-we didn't start the fire. -ladyhawke~
  20. Yeah I heard the same tripe on ESPNU last night. Those people don't know jack. I'm glad Texas is suffering. If they would've given in to the concessions that Osborne asked for in the first place when we allowed them to come to the Big 8 then none of this would've happened. 10/16 can't come soon enough for me!
  21. This was an interesting piece not from a reporter but from someone who went through the break up of the SWC. It seems that there was alot more going on than just sanctions! NolanForAD: The SWC had a rule that forbid any referee that lived in the State of Arkansas from working a game involving the University of Arkansas. Understandable, except there was no rule forbidding a ref calling a game involving his alma mater. As a result, Arkansas played every conference game against a team from Texas with refs from Texas, often with refs that graduated from the school Arkansas was playing against. In football, we had a winning record against every school but UT and in basketball we absolutely dominated. They didn't like it and they cheated against us. We suffered numerous "questionable" calls that cost us huge games, the most notorious of which was the one that nullified a TD against UT in 69. It was a phantom call made by a graduate of the University of Texas. The old SWC schools other than Arkansas are among the most notorious NCAA violators. SMU, Tamu, Houston, and Texas Tech took turns being convicted of the 'most infractions ever.' Texas and Baylor were also no strangers to the NCAA infractions committee. Some SEC schools (Bama) are also known for cheating but none compare to what was going on in Texas. The Governor of Texas was caught paying players at SMU - top that! We were SICK and TIRED of dealing with a band of outlaws that treated us like the proverbial red-headed stepchild. When we got thw chance to move to the premier conference, knowing full well that the SWC could not survive after losing one of the big three (AR UT and Tamu). We left them to die and we knew it and liked it- they had it coming. UT Tamu Baylor and TT eventually got lucky and got into the Big12. Old school Arkansas fans only want them and the other four to suffer and certainly don't EVER want to associate with them again. The youngsters that want to join the Big12 need to study the history of those programs so they can understand how offensive that suggestion is to those of us who were around in those days. Those cheaters cost us at least 2 nc's - 78 and 69. Never forget! ***This person sounds as passionate about his football as we do here in Nebraska. I'm just angry that we have to leave OUR HOUSE! I wonder if Osborne saw this day coming. It's sad. All the tradition traded for what? Money? Money has ruined sports. (Getting off of my soapbox now)
  22. EXACTLY! THANK YOU!! It ain't over til it's over.
  23. Hello 'Nexus' Thank you for your intelligent reply! I am very impressed. It has helped to relieve some of my stress about the situation. I see that CU has already left (which doesn't bother me in the least) It will be interesting to see what happens on Friday. I'm just angry that Texas came in and took over our house and now they're going to burn it down just like they did when they were in the SEC. To me they are like a cancer that destroys any conference they join. I don't know why they don't start their own conference. They have more than enough teams to make it work. Then they could leave everyone else alone. I'm sad to see the old Big 8 break up but if truth be known this was probably inevitable. It's bittersweet. Thanks again for responding, ladyhawke~
  24. IF (and it's a very big if to me) we decide to leave I, for one, will be very sad. I've been watching this conference since I was a little kid. (I'm older than dirt now!) I remember the Big 8 and how NU dominated it. It's just grieves me that we would think of throwing away all of our tradition. This is OUR house! Why are we the ones to leave. Let Texas go to the Pac 10. They will destroy it just like they did the SEC. They are like a cancer to college football. Why don't they just start their own conference and see how long they last. (frustrated here!!!)
