  1. Oh......God I miss ice cold PBRs in the bottle. 10 or so of them is always just perfect for getting primed for NU games. Some day soon......yummmmm.
  2. That's a good point as I forgot about that game. I was shocked to see them playing so well. He knocked the Hogeyes out the last two years too. Yes, you're right.....Kill very well may be a keeper.
  3. When your running the triple option, as we were in the highly successful years that Frazier, Crouch, and Frost were QB's. There was no reason for them to be pass first QB's. It's the OPTION! ? Tom Osborne designed a hell of an offense, he was one of the great strategists of the game, his playcalling was among the best ever and he found some damn good QB's that could execute his type of system. Now Beck, as I said before, wants to have a more capable passing attack. He's made it very clear that he is not happy with the passing game. He's made it clear that he, Martinez, and the rest of the team are focusing the majority of their effort on improving that aspect of the offense. What in the world makes you think Osborne and Beck would want the same type of QB's to operate two entirely different types of offense is something I just can't grasp. You do realize that we are not running the triple option at Nebraska 95% of the time like we did in the 90's? I can't find the link to the article, but Beck even states in a recent article, he wants a "PASS FIRST" QB that has the ability to run. Clearly Osborne wasn't all to concerned with PASSING QB'S when we ran the ball 90% of the time. Ok, that's all well said. Very good points, compadre'. However, a few side comments from Beck, at least to me, isn't iron-clad proof (or very clear) that he "really" wants to trash our run first offense and go fluffball. Or even the Kansas route. Maybe that's just blind hope of mine but we'll see. Again, good post TttR.
  4. Well, guys like Frost, Frazier & Crouch weren't even remotely "pass 1st" dual qbs and all they did was win. And win. And win. Sure, a qb who excels at everything is gravy (and non-existent) but just "maybe" being a big threat running the ball is worth more than you guys think? Also, just "maybe" having a capable OLine is kind of important too? Also, just "maybe" having some WRs who reliably catch the ball might help somewhat? Who knows? Maybe the Blackshirts actually more frequently stopping someone probably wouldn't hurt either? Many here think the immediate insertion of Carnes, Armstrong or anybody else would magically turn our offense into 1983 and our team national champions. Maybe you're right! I doubt it but we'll see. GBR!!
  5. Z. Lee had a zillion or so of his passes dropped too. As horrid as our offense was in 2009, if we could have caught more of his passes it would have helped a lot. You bet, even a marginal RB like Lucky who could and would "catch the ball" is a fine asset. I just couldn't agree with this post more. I too would most gladly take an average speed WR who catches the damn ball any day (& twice on Sunday) "and" remembers what route he's supposed to run over a flashy, electric WR who may or may not catch passes or run the right routes. Bo/Beck got tons of grief from internet fans for playing guys like Marlowe over JT last year but to me it was easily the right call. I'd love to see JT excel too as his ceiling is through the roof but until he starts catching passes and running the right routes he'll stay watching others play.
  6. Yeah, Swift and Peterson both had great hands alright. Another guy worth mentioning is Matt Davison. He wasn't big, and certainly wasn't fast. But the guy had GREAT hands. Caught everything thrown his way. I think Davison had the best hands of any NU receiver that I've seen. I fully agree. That guy was simply sensational at catching the ball. Oh yeah, easily the best NU WR hands I've ever seen.
  7. Well zoogies my old friend, I gotta say I didn' t see Crouch as a great "moves" guy at all. Or at least not even remotely close to "real" moves guys like B. Sanders, LP, D. Dubose (before injury), etc. He was tough as nails (much, MUCH more than Tmart running the ball) and just like Tmart having insane acceleration. I just think you and others casually discount a very, very vicious weapon with deadly gap speed. Sure, it would be best If guys like Crouch/Tmart had the shake & bake of a LP. They don't & didn't. But even LP (imo the best RB we've ever had) didn't have their gap speed. Crouch tore opponents apart with it for 3.5 years. And no, it wasn't because "defenders were out of position". It was because defenders couldn't react fast enough. Same thing with Tmart in 2010 (before injuries). Yeah, as you know I'm a Tmart homer but really I'm even more a huge fan of Warp-7 acceleration. Crouch had it. Bo Jackson had it. Tmart had (maybe still does) it. It fun as hell to watch and a deadly weapon. Bo knows that. Beck knows that. Lastly, my good friend, I thought Tmart looked pretty good on some of the option plays we ran last year. With some practice at it, I think he could excel. We'll see. I think we're gonna have a lot of fun this year.
  8. I think that's fair enough. But for gap speed he's easily #1 imo (if he has the 2010 juice back).
  9. Well, just maybe that's because our division has possibly the two fastest qbs in cfb? Duh. E. Crouch wasn't anything close to LP as a "runner" either so...so what? I guess you thought he s*cked too. The point is they both had just amazingly gap speed that defenses struggled mightily to contain. "If" Tmart has his wheels in good order he's going to badly hurt opponent DCs (good "runner" or not) this year.
  10. Ha...I just don't like the guy at all. But as usual, I'm in the extreme minority about this and that's ok. I tell ya what zoogies, regardless of our head bureaucrat, you've got just a few months to get ready for a scoring explosion this year. You're gonna love it!
  11. Well, I hear a lot of rumors that he has his "shot out of a cannon" acceleration back. If that's true, this offense is going to be a tough, rough SOB to stop. Add to that his possible better passing mechanics? Then yet again add that maybe our WRs stop dropping passes everywhere (heck, it has to stop someday, right?)? Lastly, with the young road-grader talent coming on board it could really be something. A lot of variables, I know. Still, I think this year the offense carries NU on it's back.
  12. Yep, those Barney Fife's are priceless! If you don't believe it......just ask them. Forget that the average cop has an IQ of a gerbil. Who cares? Them with our awesome public school teachers..... can't be bought out, can't go out of business, meet the slave taxpayer requirements or file bankruptcy.....gravy train forever! It's really, really the true blue American way.
  13. Hey, Harv......haven't you sucked enough free $$$ for doing nothing? How about you just STFU. There's trillions of brain-dead bureaucrats who have accomplished nothing...just like you.
  14. Of course, not a single word about our WR's dropping balls everywhere for the last three years. As always "Z. Lee & Tmart S*CK"!! Haha....until we get a qb who sews the ball (and then super glues it) on the WR's numbers it will never change. Let's just continue blaming it on our qbs. They s*ck!!!!
  15. Past 5 years. 2011: 1 team with 0 losses, 4 teams with 1 loss 2010: 3 teams with 0 losses, 5 teams with 1 loss 2009: 5 teams with 0 losses, 1 team with 1 loss 2008: 2 teams with 0 losses, 7 teams with 1 loss 2007: 1 team with 0 losses, 2 teams with 1 loss, 10 teams with 2 losses Boise with a loss, with their weak SOS, is not deserving of a shot at the championship. 2 loss teams are not deserving either. One of the 2 loss teams would have gotten the 4th spot in 2007, but I don't care that one is picked over the other 9 since you didn't leave out a deserving team. Likewise in 2010, you had 3 teams with a solid claim that wouldn't get left out, and you can pick 1 of the 5 who doesn't really have a claim to fill the 4th spot, leaving out 4 who didn't deserve it anyway. 2009 is the only problem, and I don't really have an issue leaving out Boise State playing a much weaker schedule. So let me get this straight... If I'm correct in my dating, you would rather NOT have seen the matchup of Boise St. vs Oklahoma at the Fiesta bowl in what i consider to be one of my favorite matchups of all time? This is what America is all about, what we love. Seeing the little guy coming out of nowhere to win it all. Or to have a heartbreaker. We crave it. And this committee is gonna allow it when applicable. Because it will bring the ratings. And I'm glad. Because I know all the people who say Boise and TCU don't belong will either eat their words or prove me wrong. But we'll all be watching it, won't we? Well, imo America is not, or at least should be not, about getting something for nothing. Cruising through a creampuff schedule via a bottom dweller conference is NOT earning it. To "you" playing 12 high school teams is the same as playing in the SEC or Big10 and should be rewarded equally. We'll agree to disagree about this one.
  16. Great point! "Now", the smart way to to cruise through a Boise St. schedule. Play nobody, go undefeated and gear up for the one game season in the bowl.
  17. I agree Trev's a sharp cookie and would be an excellent replacement. No hurry on that though.
  18. Go look at what opposing defenses did to Denard Robinson last year, and how they slowed him down. Same for Braxton Miller. Both of whom torched us. Blitzes are not overrated. Used correctly they are very effective. They cannot be used in all situations, but Bo uses them in nearly no situation, and that's wrong. I guess you'll have to point me to which teams slowed them down: Denard Robinson: vs. NU - 11/18, 180 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT; 23 rush, 83 yds (3.6 ypc), 2 TD - 263 total yds, 4 TDs vs. Notre Dame: 11/24, 338 yds, 4 TD, 3 INT; 16 rush, 108 yds (6.8 ypc), 1 TD - 446 total yds, 5 TDs vs. Mich St.: 9/24, 123 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT; 18 rush, 42 yds (2.3 ypc), 1 TD - 165 total yds, 2 TDs vs. Iowa: 17/37, 194 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT; 12 car, 55 yds (4.6 ypc) - 249 total yds, 2 TDs vs. Ohio St. - 14/17, 167 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT; 26 rush, 170 yds (6.5 ypc), 2 TD - 337 total yards, 5 TDs So Michigan St. (#5 in the country in yards allowed and arch-rival) had him bottled up, Iowa was about the same and ND and Ohio St. were much worse. I suppose you can throw VaTech in as a team that bottled him up but it's a lot easier to have everyone on the same page when you have a month to prepare. Braxton Miller: vs. NU (3 quarters) - 5/8, 95 yds, 1 TD; 10 rush, 91 yds (9.1 ypc) - 186 total yds, 1 TD vs. Mich St. - 5/10, 56 yds, 1 INT; 9 rush, -27 yds (-3.0 ypc) - 29 total yds vs. Wisconsin - 7/12, 89 yds, 1 TD; 19 rush, 99 yds (5.2 ypc), 2 TD - 188 total yds, 3 TD vs. Penn St. - 7/17, 83 yds, 1 TD; 18 rush, 105 yds (5.8 ypc), 1 TD - 188 total yds, 2 TD vs. Michigan - 14/25, 235 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT; 16 rush, 100 yds (6.3 ypc), 1 TD - 335 total yds, 3 TD So, again, Mich St. had his number, Wisc & Penn St. were comparable and he torched Michigan. You can argue that he compiled his stats against us in only 3 quarters but he only completed one pass and had 3 rushes for 12 yards playing all but 5 plays of the third quarter so we were doing better in the second half and our offense was actually holding the ball which is a large part of why both these QBs were able to put up the stats they did against us. I don't argue that I wish we could do some things differently but I think is misleading when people talk like we're the only team that has problems with mobile QBs. They hurt a lot of people and, as shown above, they hurt a lot of teams worse than us. Absolutely. What's so amazing is that so very many posters here are always sobbing for a return to some cement shoes pocket qb like Z. Lee or Z. Taylor. You would think "Nebraska" fans more than anyone else would understand what huge threat to defenses a great running qb is but......NOOOOOooo! They demand a Dan Marino 1st and foremost but if he runs like M. Vick that's ok too. Like they just grow on trees. Ha....it's never boring here! GBR!!
  19. I hope to "finally" get back to my priceless South Dakota sometime this fall. If I do, me & the better half will swing by Lincoln and buy you & zoogies an ice cold one! Where from in SD? The big city of Oldham (was 200 population.....but now only 199...:-)).
  20. Calvin Jones and Derek Brown are the first RBs I remember watching Yeah, those are the first two I really remember, when I was living and dying with every Nebraska play. But the first guy I remember, when I was like four or five years old, was End-Zone Jones. I remember asking my dad like a million times why they called him that, and my dad would finally get frustrated and mutter "because he scores touchdowns, dammit. Let me watch the game." Ha! Oh yeah....he was fast as hell, huh? A home-run hitter.....
  21. I thought the guy would be a superstar......I really did. Oh well.
  22. More or less than the arguments do? More or less.
