  1. the offense is not great--but they don't have to be--just cut the penalties and wait for an opportunity.
  2. this is the funniest topic on the board right now..
  3. Post of the day. Paul in WI just nailed it on the head. What Snyder has done at K-state is amazing. He has taken worse talent then Nebraska and made them win. That being said--HE IS BILL SNYDER. What he did at K-state the first time was amazing, what he is doing now is equally impressive. He is probably the best coach in college football when it comes to taking little talent and making something out of it. Watson is no Snyder--but we all know that. But if we fire Watson, we don't get a Bill Snyder, we get another 4-6 years of rebuilding. That may be worth doing, but lets do it for the right philosophical reasons--not because "the play calling sucks".
  4. Let me see if I have this right-- the screen passes suck the bubble screen sucks our play calling is predictable our players are not tough we need smashmouth we need option why don't we run more why don't we use the tight ends more I'm sure there are more, but these are the problems most Watson haters are having (it seems). My take: Watson is not the problem, he has become the scapegoat. Let me first say that I am not a big fan of this system and I wish we never would have stopped the option--but this is what we have. I was watching football all day today--and you know what I saw? screens, bubbles, runs out of the shotgun and draws. The same stuff Watson calls. It was working OK for most of those schools. Maybe, just maybe, the reason we are getting "predictalble passes and runs" is because our offensive players are not capable of doing more. Watson spends 80 hours a week doing nothing but offense for a division I program. Don't you think the idea of "throwing downfield" has crossed his mind. There is probably a reason he doesn't do it. That reason is probably because our receivers couldn't catch a cold and our QB's are young and inexperienced. They can't manage to hook up on most 5 yard passes--it is pretty hard to have "unpredictable plays" when your people can't execute a play right in front of them. Well then "just run up the middle". I think that idea has probably also popped into watson's brain at some point. If it was that simple don't you think he would do it? The reason we don't is probably because our O-line can't knock anyone off the line and most of our RB's are hurt or are Freshmen. Let's put it this way Watson hater-- You are now hired to be OC, what plays are YOU going to call? Remember, most passes will not be caught and most runs will be stuffed behind the line. Good luck. Seriously, think about this. It is 3rd and 6, what are you going to call? This offense was never going to be good. The reason we put up numbers early on in the season is because we were hiding our deficiencies. Now ever team (and any fan who has watched more than a couple games) knows them. We simply don't have the players--yet. I see glimmers of hope out there--but most of them are young kids just getting experience. Give them a chance to grow. Watson may not be the right guy for this job, and this offense is probably not the right offense for Nebraska, but a lot of the anger and bitching at Watson is misguided. You are a fan, you have a right to your opinion, but you don't have a right to be a jack-ass. I am pissed that our team has sunk so low as to lose two straight and then look like crap against Baylor. I can't believe I just typed that. we have fallen so far... But changing coaches all the time is not how teams get back on top.
  5. I don't remember feeling this bad after a win. ugly. Thank you Crick and Suh!
  6. I am not a green guy--but I was at the game on Thursday, and it was clear to everyone in the stadium that what we need is a QB who can put the ball where the players can catch it. Lee seems like a nice guy, and I think we keep starting him, but the best/fastest WR in the world would have made no difference on 90% of the incomplete passes this week. (yes, I know it was raining etc.)
  7. my 4th trip to columbia and these were the best fans so far. Very polite and fun to tailgate with. Some guy threw a beer at us, but we laughed it off, (it didn't hit us) and the mizzou guys in the next tent laid into them pretty good. At the stadium there were two missouri a-holes behind us. Talking stupid smack and being drunk jerks. Then in the 4th quarter they shut up pretty quick and left early. for the record, during the 4th quarter some nebraska guys in front of me were the a-holes. I had a lot of fun with fans of both colors around me. a lot of good people go to college football games--it is just a few people who are jerks.
  8. In person you can really see the difference in the secondary. Those guys are all over the defenders. WAY different than what I have seen in the past. They were all over those receivers last night. It reminded me of the Charlie years.
  9. the thing I liked about Crouch was that he would deliver a hit on every play. I think the guy never went out of bounds. He also had less talent around him than Frazier. Frazier was the man on a great team. his TEAMS were fun to watch. When EC was playing, you knew he was going to have to carry the team on his back--and most of the time he did.
  10. I don't think many of you are being fair to Tom. He is simply saying that if Bo gives him material to work with that the fans will get more material about bo and the huskers. If you regularly read his column you know that he likes Bo quite a bit. Tom's job also depends on getting quotes, so yeah of course he wants the coach to speak. Look, half of the coaches lose every week--many of them in close games--but most of them realize that the media needs them and the fans want to hear from them. most of them go do side-interviews and they all do pressers. That doesn't mean Bo has to be nice, but to be pissed at the sports media is deflecting your anger about the game onto people who had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. Its kind of like having a crappy day at work and so you take it out on the custodial staff. you may be "keeping it real" but you are still kind of an ass.
  11. dear husker fan, please stop being so shallow minded. It is a loss-- By 1 point-- to a team that was ranked higher than us-- in their home stadium. the sky is not falling and our coaches and players are doing fine. The reason you are upset is because the team performed reasonably well and almost won the game. With a couple more weapons or more experience the team probably wins the game by 21 (by scoring touchdowns instead of field goals). It was not an embarrassing loss, and most reasonable people who watched that game probably think nebraska is better than they thought they were last week. The defense was amazing for 58 minutes. The offense showed it can actually run the ball. Special teams were special. Bo and company will focus on closing the deal and watson and co will need to figure out how to score in the red zone. we figure those things out and we could be in for a great big 12 season and an even better 2010. I LOVE nebraska football, and I love this message board--but lets not turn this into something it is not. The team lost a game that almost everyone expected us to lose before the season started. That does not mean a coach or O.C. or player is incompetent. It just means we lost a game. If you want off the bandwagon, feel free to jump off now--I think we are in for a great ride in the near future!
  12. wife just brought me a plate of 8 layer nachos. Ohh yeah--its game time!
  13. everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to say Q is just a back up RB who only rushed 500 yards is a little disingenuous. It hurts, and it hurts bad. and if H. gets injured at some point this season--even if only for a game--it is going to hurt really bad. I'm not saying the sky is falling, I'm not saying I'm throwing away my tickets. I'm saying that having a really strong backfield was our main strategy for some games this year. Good defense and a backfield that can dominate wins some games. Helu is the man, but now he is the only man. Anyone here want to take bets that both Helu and Lee stay at 100%all season? Anyone feel like our backups for those positions are ready to be big 12 starters? Look, one man doesn't make a team--but for the same people who have been quick to report that our backfield is going to dominate to now pretend like it is no big deal is a little bit much for me to take--and I take a pull from the kool-aid as much as anyone else. I just may be adding some jack daniels to mine.
  14. great game guys! This is my favorite basketball team in nebraska history. Not the best, just my favorite! Big Congrats to Doc!
  15. nice work on that headline OWH! http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1200...;u_sid=10533950
  16. Crouch could really take (and give) a hit. Every time I see a QB go out of bounds to avoid a hit I think about Crouch and how he would have hit the guy and gone down in bounds just to pick up one more yard. The guy was a college football stud--and that is what the Heisman is for.
  17. Hagg earned his today--he saved the game for us. The blocked pass was going to a wide open clemson receiver near the endzone and his sack speaks for itself. Those were clutch plays when we needed clutch plays. The defense played tough today--they may not have the big names of past teams but they played with the same heart and intensity as many of those teams. It makes me really excited for next year!
  18. It was a team effort--but Hagg was a stud on that last drive. Without his plays we are probably looking at a very different end of the season.
  19. this may be the first time I refer to the defense as blackshirts with the same pride as I did back in the day. Way to go guys--amazing game today!
  20. I have a project for the husker faithful. I was in thinking about Missouri and how they will have very few people at their bowl game, and was wondering if anyone has ever put together a picture of all the stadiums we went to and claimed as our own. You know how they alway show the top down shot and there is more red than the opposing team color? I don't really mean a the bowls specifically-- more like when we went to Notre Damn and tuned the stadium red. Wouldn't that make a cool poster? Put 10 stadiums on the poster and write "there i no place like Nebraska" on the bottom. Maybe just wishful thinking, but I know some of you have some really great skills!
  21. ouch, Gtech looked good this week! It was fun watching their triple option. I forgot how awesome a well run option attack is. If you put husker uniforms on them you would have sworn you were watching a nebraska team from the mid 90's. and they did that in their first year running the system with player who are not recruited to do it. Very impressive. That would be a fun game to watch GBR!
  22. Look, you can like whoever you want--but the Bill Callahan thing was funny and classless and the Bo thing is just classless. I still like Bo, I still think he is a better coach. But fair is fair. GBR
  23. I live in St. Louis, and he is better than anyone I have read from here or when I lived in Kansas City. He is opinionated which rubs some people the wrong way, but his writing is top notch if you ask me (you didn't).
