  1. The more I learn about this offense the more I am convinced that it is not only a perfect fit for Nebraska, but that we should have invented it! It is the next progression out of the option offense and would have been amazing for crouch and others. I am not really being critical here, but just kind of living in an alternate universe... now that the spread is so prolific, I am not sure we should go to it, I am just saying that it seems like an offense that would have naturally fit us coming out of the Osborne years. Either way, nice work today guys... we are only going to get better from here.
  2. offense is not playing up to potential. Lets get to the ground game and get some yards!
  3. anyone who says we are going to win 10 is closer to a Mizzou fan than a Nebraska fan. They have been saying that stuff for years. Only now are they any good. Smart husker fan knows that predicting 10 wins is silly. If the team does it--great! But to predict it based on the facts we have seen would be unwarranted. Watch a few games from the top 10--we don't look like that. Not yet.
  4. this just proves that we have a lot of fans... which is a great thing. After a win vs. V.T. I could see us crack the top 25. Go get um Huskers!
  5. easy there... we just beat a team we were supposed to beat. Our fortunes have not changed from last week. I would love 9-3 as much as the next guy but I think that would be about a best case scenario for right now. Those option lanes and rushing lanes will not be as open for the next 9 games. So, 9-3 possible--sure we are going 9-3 because we are now a much better team then last week--Not so sure.
  6. I hate not being able to watch--thank god for the internet. Sounds like we should run all day. please, please run all day!!
  7. I've been to two games at KU including the beatdown you guys put on us and had a great time both times. The fans were as nice as anyone and very friendly. Keep up the good work. Here is hoping you are the second best team in the north!
  8. Let me tell you a little story about team X. Team X, is an nice little team. For the most part they do the right things, they usually make a run at the beginning of the season and their fans get really excited. They start predicting great things in their future. Then they hit a stumbling block. The fans feel let down because they believed this was the team to do it but then the team got embarrassed so the fans were a little embarrassed. Team X comes out the next week, but the wind has already been taken out of their sails. They were feeling pretty good about themselves before, but now they are not so sure. They falter again. The fans don't want to be seen as stupid, so they proclaim that they knew this season was no different than the other and they go about their daily lives. Team X implodes and the fans wait until the next year, where they are promised something even bigger and better. the cycle continues... The question is... who is team X Is it every Missouri team for the last 50 years? The 2008 Missouri Team? The 2008 Huskers? I'll let you know in January.
  9. I get your point, but I think we have a little more national prestige than the schools you mention. Yeah, we stink right now, but you find Husker fans all over the country. Still, we need to be able to win some games to make it on TV. As for all the interest in the "new huskers". I don't get the feeling that there is much outside of Nebraska. People may be curious, but I don't think many of them are interested. Bo was not a big name hire and most outsiders are not seeing it the same way that insiders are. Just a couple thoughts from a Husker fan in St. Louis
  10. This is interesting, but as a previous person said, this may be a little skewed. Keep in mind we were coming off a 10 win season and (although we were on the downside) still considered a perennial national power. Of course, we got players on the 1st/2nd team. Now we are coming off a losing season, so the powers that be are not going to load up the honors with players from our team. Also, keep in mind that this time last year this board was EXPLODING with praise for Callahan and how great we were going to be. It is easy to say Cally was the root of all of our problems and now that he is gone everything will be good again, but the reality is that Cally was probably not as good as we thought last year, but he is probably not as bad as he is now vilified. (don't get be wrong, I'm thrilled to see him go, especially with Bo at the helm) I'm just saying that one coaching change isn't likely to fix everything. It took us 6 years to get to this point, we should expect it to take at least 3 to get back where we want to be.
  11. This is a great point. It makes us feel better to think Callahan was everything that was wrong with the program and now that he is gone everything will be better. That being said, the offense was not as good as the stats say. We did put up a lot of yards and points but most of them were meaningless when we were down by three touchdowns or more playing against scrubs. Everything will be different this year.
  12. Something for the off season. Man, I need some football to start up! http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vau...06144/index.htm
  13. what does it take to be an Academic All -American?
  14. I was too drunk to see the end last time. maybe it will turn out better this time.
  15. TO is so unlike so many other coaches and players. We really were/are lucky to have him. It is scary to think some people might have tried to chase him off before his big run.
  16. we just came off a 5-7 season. The fact that we are on ESPN shows respect. How many other 5-7 teams (or similar) do they talk about that are not called Notre Dame?
  17. Our history doesn't mean much anymore. You can say 1968 etc. all you want, but teams do not fear us. For most of the kids playing, they know we have not been very good for a while.
  18. some of you guys make me wonder... Sam may not have been the best QB, but if anything he was a victim of too much hype. He can't control that. He was a solid player who said the right things and did the right things. He took responsibility for everything that went wrong on the field including a huge list of things he never had control about and he was the most well spoken people at any press conference including the millionaire coaches. He played for NEBRASKA He worked hard for NEBRASKA He came here when and did his best to help out a NEBRASKA team He did his job--take any defense from the mid 90's and put them with last year's team and we are talking BCS if not NC. Topics like this make me wonder about "Nebraska fan"
  19. man, that guy should write for the DN
  20. I always thought Terry was a moron who didn't know when to shut up. But that was a good well thought out article. Maybe it was because I didn't have to listen to him say it!
  21. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/foot...g.ap/index.html I don't think this has been posted yet...
  22. This article makes some good points, the problem is that it is too soon. What would the author want Bo to do? Hold a press conference and say that we are no longer offering the scholarship? He can yank that thing at any time. The smart thing to do is to wait and see. If the kid looks like a bad seed then you can tell him to take a hike later. I do like the line about this being a privilege. Many of these students athletes do seem to think it is their right to play. It is not. Of course, this kid will get a scholarship somewhere no matter what, so maybe they are not that far off after all. The reference to TO and LP is ridiculous. TO has repeatedly said that he made the wrong decision and would do it differently if he had the chance. Each situation is different. The question I want them all to ask is... If [insert student athlete here] was playing 4th string what would I do? Answer that question and then do it. (easier said than done)
  23. Rome has always been a nebraska fan. He talks about the team quite a bit, probably because it gets a reaction.
