  1. Who have they played thats had a good offense? That team is not one of the top ten in the nation. Don't even bringup the score as a reason why they should be, since that same team only scored 19 point last week against Texas A & M. That may be true--I myself do not think Kansas is all that good--but at the same time...since when does scoring 39 points not win a game? Even if NU didn't come up with a win, they should have been a little closer than 37 points...but maybe it's just me.
  2. What's more shocking is giving up 39 to us. Reminds me of CU in '01, their D was exposed to Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. I think that'll happen to KU. Congrats on the win, enjoy it while it lasts. It's really sad that NU can't win a game by putting 39 on the board...
  3. Hmmm...let's see what's going on in college football right now. Oh, I see Mizzou is up against Colorado 48 to 10 and there's about 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Wait, if I remember correctly, Kansas just barely beat Colorado 19 to 14. Unless Colorado makes a miraculous comeback...looks like Mizzou is not only going to win against Colorado, but it looks like they are going to win by a substantial amount. I wonder what that means for Kansas on November 24th? Listen, I'm happy Kansas is undefeated and representing the Big 12 North and is number 8 in the country, but I honestly have to say that I am not too impressed with them. They really haven't proven anything to me. They have only faced three "okay" teams, and when they did, they didn't win in a convincing fashion. I just have this feeling that Kansas is going to have alot of trouble against Mizzou.
  4. You're joking right? Would Sam Keller have scored 80 points or something? Listen, I know there were some interceptions thrown..but to me, he started doing that when NU got down by so many. Almost as if he was trying to force plays to happen, because the defense couldn't stop KU's offense. I personally thought the offense played pretty damn good for racking up so many points and yardage against one of the top 10 defenses in the country.
  5. The wheels of the bus go round and round...
  6. Yes, this is true. Although if you were hinting at a comparison between KU and NU...well, it's kind of silly because I'm pretty sure everyone knows KU has a better team this year. NU is a less-than-average team this year (at best). Now...if you compare KU to the teams in the top 10...well, I don't want to say they don't belong there, but I don't think they do. They just haven't shown me anything yet this year. Now, if they beat Mizzou and go on to the Big 12 Championship...then I guess I will be a little more impressed. But...I just don't see that happening. So for somebody to come in here and say, "You need to respect KU and give them credit," is really kind of annoying. Tell me why I need to give them credit? Is it because 5 of the 8 games they played were against really crappy teams, or is it because they won by 8 points or less against the 3 teams that are "okay?"
  7. I guess I might as well get in on this action. I can see that happening pretty easily. While I don't think KU is as good as everyone says they are...they DEFINITELY have a decent team this year. That being said, I must say I was pretty impressed with NU last week. I absolutely loved what they did on defense during the first half; however, you could tell the NU players were getting tired during the second half, which resulted in a lot of missed tackles. When you put that many people up on the line, if a tackle is missed...it's going to hurt. Key factors to the game for NU: Offense-- -Establish the running game early. I know Ganz is a competitor, but establishing a running game early will take some pressure off of him and really let him get into a rhythm. -Let Ganz run around a little bit. I know he's no Vince Young, but I also know that HE CAN RUN. Even though KU's defense is quick, let him run with it. It will keep KU's defense on its feet and add another dimension to NU's offense. -Use what is working. I noticed last week against Texas, they used that passing play which had 3 or 4 receivers going down the field. It seemed like everytime they used it, Swift was more and more open each time. I think they should have continued to use it until Texas proved they could defend it. My point is, take a look at what the defense is giving you, and call the plays accordingly (this goes out to whoever may be calling the offensive plays this week). -For the love of God, get Lucky involved. I'm not too impressed with his actual RB abilities, but do the coaches not see what he can do when he comes out of the backfield and catches passes? KU's defense will be coming in to eat Ganz for breakfast...counter this with a few screen plays to Lucky. A few 10-15 yard gains and KU will be a little more hesitant in bringing the heat. -Speaking of underutilized players...what about Purify? Could we get him the ball a little more please? -NU's offense needs to stay on the field as much as possible. Make long drives down the field and finish it up with a touchdown. It doesn't matter how good KU's offense is...if they aren't on the field, they can't score. -NO TURNOVERS! Trust me, KU will make each turnover count. -Play like you have nothing to lose (because you don't) Defense-- -I just want to say that I really enjoyed watching the D play last week for the first 3 quarters. McCoy looked very uncomfortable in the pocket after a while. -NU must stop the KU run. I know...it's easier said than done, but see what Kansas is going to try and do in the beginning minutes of the game. It seems pretty obvious that they are going to try and establish their running game early, so I would make stopping the run in the first quarter a high importance goal. I know we want to stop the run for the whole game, but I feel it's important to set smaller goals that lead up to larger ones. Stop the run a quarter at a time. -Hit people. Be physical. Run to whoever has the ball. I felt NU did a pretty good job of this during the first half of the Texas game. If they can perform like this for 4 quarters, NU will be doing pretty good. -Remember fundamentals. Look, I have never played football, so I should probably be the last guy ranting about football fundamentals, but arm tackles against a KU team just isn't going to cut it. Make good contact and knock KU's players on the ground! -Take it a play at a time and do not get discouraged if KU makes a big play. It is bound to happen, just come back out on the field and do what you have been doing in practice all week. -Play like you have nothing to lose (because you don't) Alright, well, that's my take on the game. As for the outcome...I don't know, my name isn't Isaac Mendez and I cannot paint the future. I can only watch the game to see what happens. By the way, I really hope people respond to what I wrote. I'm always up for a good discussion...
  8. I like Jim Rose. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who loves what he does. I would love to sit down with him one day to talk NU football, however, I just don't like him as an NU announcer. I have nothing against the guy, I just don't like his announcing style. That being said, I thought it was rather funny when Rose and company forgot to turn off their mics during a few commercial breaks for the A&M game. Anyone else notice this?
  9. Yes, I did watch the game, and I do recall A&M beating us in our own stadium...but I guess I don't get your point. If a team is bad...who cares whose stadium they are playing in...they are bad. That's it. There's nothing else to it. The stadium does not charge our players up to make them super football players all of a sudden. If that was the case, I think we would have a better record than 4-5. So KU held them to under 100 yards. Okay? They still only won by 8 points and like I said before, all it would have taken was one play by A&M and the game could have ended differently. The same can be said for their victories against KSU and CU, which are the only "good" teams they have faced this year. Yes, it is hard to win on the road. But like I said, if KU's opponent comes away with a big play in any of those games, KU might not have been on the winning side of the ball. So, I should give credit to them right now? Hmmm...okay. Good job KU! Way to beat a bunch of crappy teams and three "okay" teams. Yeah!
  10. I don't mean to be rude, but this type of thinking doesn't make sense. Your main argument in this sentence is that since KU "spanked" A&M by...........8 points, then KU must be a good team. You also add more evidence of KU being good by saying that since A&M beat NU at Memorial Stadium, this makes KU a better team. What!? In order for this argument to hold any water, NU would have to be a great team with a great W-L record...NU has neither of these. Following your logic, since A&M beat NU, and KU beat A&M, then this means we need to respect KU........ I wish I knew what you were smoking, because I would like some... I want them to beat a good team. Sure they faced three okay teams...but they barely won those games. These games were all close; they could have gone either way. One interception from the opposing team and KU may not be undefeated this year still. I will give them credit when they do something significant. And saying they are better than us isn't saying much at all. I'm pretty sure Baylor could beat our asses, should we respect them too?
  11. While winning against the number 8 team in the country would be nice...this is a no brainer. Definitely Colorado...
  12. Oh man. I knew he got knocked out of the game because I heard Ganz's name being mentioned by the TV announcers (I was getting ready for a costume party during the 4th quarter and cranked up the TV volume so I could hear it in the other room...yes, I do have a radio, but I can't stand Rose's announcing). That's too bad for Sam if he is indeed out for the rest of the season. I feel bad for him. On the other hand, we finally get to watch a mobile QB in action (I'm assuming Ganz is going to continue leading the offense?), something I have been waiting for. Too bad he has to start his first game against an undefeated Kansas team...
  13. I don't know what you are talking about... :: looks around nervously ::
  14. Anyone know of a good website that describes different offensive and defensive strategies?
  15. I know you can break this losing streak. Just go out there, play hard, don't give up, and give 110% on every play!!! GO BIG RED!!!
  16. The coaches, players, and announcers were pumping up the NU team as if they were going to be a force in the Big 12. I read and heard all of the interviews before the season started and felt like we might have a fairly good team this year...but I was thinking, "I will believe it when I see it," but I was very optimistic and excited to see when NU could do this year. If you think about it, there is no reason why we (the fans) would think that NU would be doing this bad. Our offense seemed to do fairly good at moving the ball and putting points up on the board last year (I guess that's the difference between Taylor and Keller). It also appeared that while our defense was not wonderful last year, it definitely wasn't too bad. I figured they would improve on the negatives last year and become even better this year. I was wrong. The offense doesn't seem like they can get anything going, and when they do, they somehow always manage not to convert in the end. They aren't even using the right freakin' players to optimize the offense's performance. The "defense" has completely crumbled, and we are lucky if we keep the opponent's offense to under 450 yards per game. Horrible practices, horrible coaching, horrible play calling, horrible strategies. That pretty much sums up NU's year.
  17. Just curious...who decides what games will be on TV and how do they make that decision? Anyone know?
  18. ...where I can listen to the show Jason Peter is on? I am talking about online streaming audio. The one on http://www.espn1480.com/ isn't working very well right now. Anyone know of anyplace else?
  19. Why don't they use Castille? It looks like he was having a fair amount of success, and I think he has much better vision and decision making than Lucky. But that's just my opinion.
  20. I agree. People are just picking at him and overanalyzing everything he says just so they can hate him. Just let him do his job to his full potential. I know it hasn't gone like he planned so far this season, but it's not like at the beginning of the season he sat down, kicked up his feet and said... Callahan: "You know Coz...we really need to do bad this season. I think this year, I will send the offense out there and for the first 1 or 2 games our offense will look promising...but then our offense should stall against Mizzou and OSU. Man would that show those fans." Cosgrove: "Yeah, and maybe the defense could give up over 500+ yards per game. Oh, and also maybe the defense could be almost last in the nation in all aspects. Man...that would really get those fans going." Callahan: "Okay...that's our goals for this season...hey, you hungry?" Cosgrove: "Kind of...how bout some fast food?" Callahan: "No, I don't think my stomach can handle any greasy food...you up for Indian food?" Cosgrove: "Oh yeah, that sounds gooooooood. Indian Oven sound good?" Callahan: "Yeah, let's go."

  22. So, we all know NU isn't doing so swell this year, and it looks like we will struggle to get one more win this season. What should NU change to have a better chance at winning in the future? I think NU should...: 1) ...GET RID OF COSGROVE!! Seriously. Please get rid of him. He is horrible. 3-3-5 formation WAS NOT working...don't you think the strategy should be altered at that point? Believe it or not, sometimes a strategy has to be changed because it is not working. Other teams change offensive/defensive strategies when their original strategy wasn't working. What the hell Cosgrove? 2) ...simplify the offense a little more. Okay...this is college football. Why are we running a west coast offense. Half of the time it doesn't look like the players even know what they are doing out there. It's okay to abandon the option offense...but I just think this type of offense is just too complicated. 3) ...get a different type of QB. I think NU needs a different type of QB. Sam Keller is alright, until there is someone in his face. I think we need a QB that is elusive (i.e., can run the ball effectively). This will add another dimension to our offense making it harder for the opposing team's defense, and will make the defense think twice about blitzing. There are other things that need to be done...but I feel these are the main three things I want to see. What does everyone else think?
