  1. Jackson has an offer and is already committed to NU. Pretty doubtful he makes it to campus, though. I don't know the Reetz family but know a ton of people from the Firth/Norris area. Everyone I've talked to that knows them believes he'll go to school. I have a hard time believing that he'll end up in school if he gets drafted high enough and gets enough money. You won't hear anything else out of friends/families mouths until he's signed a contract for what bargaining power they can use, but money is hard to turn down.
  2. Exactly. If we're going to be winning games we are going to have to do it with the offense. It's one game, the offense can definitely come around and the pitching will hopefully improve, but I don't see it being a strong point at all. Coming into this weekend I expected a 1-3 weekend, and if we get that, we'll still be right on pace to what I expected. The non-con schedule is made to make us ready for Big Ten play. Winning the conference is our ticket to the tourney, not an at large. We should not be banking on an at large as long as the Big Ten stays as it is in baseball. Obviously if we play amazing, have a great record, and get upset, we'll get an at large, but that's not the focus of this team. Play great competition, find out our strengths and weaknesses, and capitalize on them in conference play and hopefully into the post season. Keep calm and stay the course. We'll be okay.
  3. Something Erstad HAD to do if he wanted to make this team competitive on a national stage. There are definitely a lot of coaches who would not have taken the leap and scheduled teams like this, but it's great for the players, it's great for the fans, it's great for the program. It's something that will make us a lot better and help us run through the Big Ten in the future.
  4. BS! Romo chokes in big games. it happens year after year. He's only won 1 playoff game and that was against a division opponent. Throwing up stats is useless. The better qb's make do with what they got and figure out how to win. Romo can't. Give him a line so he isn't watching out for his life. If the defense was half as healthy as it was this year they would have won the division and this topic wouldn't even be up. The only real thing of merit that Dallas could do would be for Jerry to fire GM Jerry. That is the only thing that will help.
  5. Unrealistic? More than likely. Impossible? No. Splitting with Fullerton, all 4 on the road, is a lot to ask. 1 of 4 is something to hope for. Same with taking the series from Irvine. Now, with 4 of these games being midweek games (2 vs Fullerton, 2 vs Arkansas) it's hard to know what to expect. They could be easier to win for us because we'll have more to win by winning than they will have to lose. However, even with great growth from last season, expecting this team to win that many games and host would be unrealistic in my book. I hope that's not the case and I hope people still show up to support the team if they get off to a slow start. What can be said is the harder schedule will definitely get this team ready much better than the schedule in the past has. It's exciting to be able to watch match-ups with top tier teams and it will definitely give us an early season look at what we need to work on and be telling of where we are in terms of the rest of the nation.
  6. I hate HuckFusker. Hope they get destroyed.
  7. Kendall Rogers said that when he did his projections that there were 2 #4 seed openings that he did not think there would be. This is, assuming, that nobody that shouldn't get a bid gets one through the conference tournaments, but Kevin Kugler asked him if Nebraska could make a run at one of those. KR said it was possible. However, getting destroyed tonight did not help. Michigan St has an RPI in the top 50, 48 last time I checked. Also, his projections do NOT have Michigan State or Nebraska in them, fwiw.
  8. LOL, so you're the sole arbiter of whether or not something brings 'value' or 'substance' to a conversation? Hardly, and by your history, you'd do a piss-poor job at it. All you've said is how s***y this team is and how there is no hope they'd make the post-season--there's a difference between being a pragmatist and your posting, and all you've done is nay say anyone that doesn't agree with your point of view. Granted, you were consistent with your nay-saying, but you were also consistently a d**k in how it came across, and it gets old, fast. And I'm sorry that I didn't respond sooner your post, Havok--too busy living life. And frankly, it speaks volumes about you that you need to determine your self-worth by how one responds to you on a message board. No, you're posts are a joke. Plain and simple. If I'm not talking about how great the team is or how they are going to make the tournament without winning the conference tourney, I'm pissing on them.. If that's the case, whatever. Then yes, I do. Sorry, again, that I look at it more objectively. I really DON'T just talk crap about the team. I would love for you to go back through the seasons posts and read the props that I have given this team up and down about how they have outperformed my expectations from the get go. Of course, I thought they were going to be pretty bad all around, and they aren't completely. I've owned up to that multiple times in different threads. However, the pitching is pathetic, I'd love for you to make a logical argument against that point. After all, that's what I'm bashing. As far as bringing value, the post that I quoted from you brought nothing. You accused me of 'tap-dancing' around an issue while you didn't answer the question that was asked of you. It seems pretty obvious that that had no substance to it. Then again, I'm sure you bashing me is substance, but me talking about the downfalls of the team, in the correct forum, isn't substance, right? Finally, I said nothing about when or where you respond. You don't have to respond at all for all I care. However, if you're going to respond, don't do it with a brutally hypocritical response. Again, I'm still waiting to see how all I do is bash on everyone that is a sunshine pumper. All I've ever done to you is given you factual evidence on why we wouldn't make the NCAAs without the auto bid. You can disagree with me all you want, but bring something other than your opinion into that conversation, please.
  9. Yep, yep, yep. Now we just need to win the series at Ann Arbor. Penn State plays at Sparty this weekend, so that'll knock one of those teams down, hopefully below us if we win the Michigan series. The Hoosiers are one game ahead of us, and they host the Buckeyes for three games. If OSU can take the series we could jump up there as well. Anyone know the tiebreakers, and how they're applied? Is there any chance we move up to the second seed with a sweep? Holy guacamole - what if we get swept? Look up 3 posts....
  10. The pitching is pathetic, I haven't said that it isn't. I really don't understand what you're trying to argue, because you're saying pretty much the exact same thing I am, except that you're not surprised we are struggling to qualify for the Big Ten tourney. Plain and simple the Big Ten isn't very good. The fact that we are in the bottom half of it is pretty pathetic. Yes, we have to see what is going to happen over the next few years, but we have to pray no one leaves early, or we could see it get even worse. Funny thing. I was thinking about this thread yesterday and how I hadn't come back to it since these couple of posts I made, and how they make it seem like I'm more down on this team than I really am. I think this is a good Husker team. Not great, not really good, but good. I agree that the pitching is woeful, but hopefully we're getting some things figured out. I have high hopes for this team in the upcoming years. I'm just ultra-cautious, I guess. I don't think I'm really arguing with you. More thinking out loud, at you. Fair enough, I was just confused... We were saying a lot of the same thing... The team is hitting the ball well, best since the Gordon/Gerch days...
  11. I think it's hilarious how you obviously have no idea. Maybe you should head over to the huskers vs gophers game thread and see where my post is. Oh wait, 15 hours before your post came. I apologize that some of us actually can't get on here every second of every day. I was busy all weekend with work, my brothers baseball, a wedding, and more work..didn't think I needed to justify that, but apparently you need to know my every step.. I followed most of the games, and I made my impression over there. If you REALLY think I'm a troll, LOL. Yes, yes, I am a troll. I would LOVE to see that support. But yea, I'm absolutely nowhere to be found. Freaking Joke.
  12. Huge sweep this weekend. Very very much needed wins at home against a team we are competing with for the conference tourney. As far as the tourney goes. Top 2 teams get a bye. The 1 seed plays the lowest seed that wins round 1, 2 seed gets the other. It goes in true double elimination style. In the winners bracket round 2 games (1 and 2 seed games), the losers go down to the losers bracket, with the higher seeded losing team getting a bye. It sounds kinda complicated, but I'll link to the bracket below. There is still a chance we could get the 2 seed if we sweep at Michigan next week. Ohio St plays @ Indiana, and would need to win 2 of 3, because Indiana owns the tiebreaker against us. Penn St plays @ Michigan St, who would need to win 2 of 3 against Penn St. In the case that Michigan St were to sweep or Penn St wins 2, we would be tied in record with them. Since we didn't play either team, the tie breaker goes to record against common opponents.. I'm too tired and lazy to look that up right now, but the for sure thing for us to have a chance at the 2 seed is Ohio St to take at least 2 of 3 @ Indiana. Again, huge series sweep here. Great for momentum and the way it happened, with 3 close games, is huge for confidence. Need that going into the final weeks of the year. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/big10/sports/m-basebl/auto_pdf/2011-12/misc_non_event/baseball_bracket_2012.pdf
  13. I was giving and exception to the "show where I bashed a team"... I can't help where someone else takes it..and apparently you want to go elsewhere also. Read the whole thread, thanks.
  14. So do you? or don't you? Just curious. Do you know more about bowling than any of us or not? Than almost anyone here? Yea.
  15. The pitching is pathetic, I haven't said that it isn't. 16. What? You know what. You're whole post was a tapdance around the observation that you and certain others on this board love to s**t all over other posters that were positive. Anyone following this season knew on paper that we didn't have the kids to make the tourney, but when they were playing above their station, the tendency is for fans to be optimistic. Your tendency, when those fans became optimistic, was to verbally s**t on them with your negativity. Granted, you're not as bad as Gumbercules, but you were bad about being a fecal-covered wet blanket when the team was playing well. Do you actually have something of substance to bring to the conversation? I'm pretty sure I don't see if if you do. Because I said from the get go that we weren't going to be an NCAA tourney team and I said that I was not required to get my hopes up and drink the koolaid that you and others were drinking with this team makes me someone that sh*ts on everyone? If so, oh well, I guess that's gonna be the way it is. I'm sorry that I had an objective lookout from the get go and saw this team as one that would not be in the NCAAs. I haven't 'tapdanced' around any issue. I've answered everything you've asked. You completely ignored my response to you. Seems like I'm definitely the one ignoring things I don't want to respond to though, huh?
  17. 380 was the best class I took this semester...Only not CBA class I took, which probably explains it..and Dr. Nelson was pretty sweet.
  18. Anderson pulled in top end recruiting classes. If you don't want to buy them, you don't have to, but a lot of the "recruiting rankings" in baseball is coming from where scouts have them projected and what not. It's not perfect, just like football, but it is not a bad system either. A team without talent doesn't hit .315...
  19. I would think that we do know the answer, partially, by looking at batting and fielding improvements and the overall improvement in the W/L columns. Most of us also knew that the cupboard was close to bare when it came to pitching--once we saw the improved fielding and hitting, though, the question was whether this team could slug their way to the top of the Big 10, and that answer is 'no'. But this is the MO of certain posters on this board (e.g. Havok, Gumbercules)--***t all over Nebraska athletics when things aren't going their way, and then hop back on the bandwagon when it's picking up steam. It gets old, fast, and it really does no one any good--remember, the kids read these boards, too. Of course, I'd like to think that this sort of thinking is localized to the current generation of Nebraska fans, but I do recall that there was all sorts of asshattery in the 80s when Dr. Tom was perceived as someone that couldn't win 'the big one'. Perhaps it's just a subset of Nebraska fandom culture that we have folks like Havok and Gumbercules that try to work the crowds into a pitchfork and torch-carrying froth or s**t all over any positivity or hope given to our programs? Are you kidding me? This is a joke right? I have said since the get go this season that it wasn't going to be a good one. I also said, and stand by, that we are performing WAY better than I thought that we would. I'm sorry that my view of the BASEBALL program doesn't match up with yours. I would love to find one place where I have 'bashed' another program, outside of the bowling one, which I would love to say I know more about than almost anyone on here. Again, read my post, you will see that I said we have to take a "wait and see" attitude the next couple of years and see what happens. However, the recruiting restrictions don't allow for us to over sign and will also penalize us if someone leaves before graduation, both things that will doom baseball programs. This will make it tough to consistently get talent in here to help us compete nationally. Can we do it? Sure. But it's going to take a helluva coaching job.
  20. Thank you, I will call him out for crying. Because he's not taking a wait-and-see attitude like you're advocating, he's denouncing the hire right now. The problem with everyone overreacting here is that they presumed we were a good coaching hire away from being a better team - the impression I get from reading some of these over-reacting posts is they felt we were a solid NCAA team - and that's simply not realistic. It wasn't realistic when Erstad was hired and it's not realistic now. What were we getting when Erstad was hired? A guy who clearly can play baseball well. But can he teach it? That's the key question. We don't know the answer to that yet, and likely won't for a while. But to sit here and post threads about how poor of a hire Tom made now is foolish. It shows a lack of patience, and a lack of context. I have zero qualms about calling someone out for crying under these circumstances. Crying about this season is silly. It's going to take time. Absolutely this. Sometimes you see first year coaches come in and set the world on fire. That's fine, but it isn't common. Coaches typically get fired because they either 1) Can't coach the talent they have or 2) Don't have talent to coach because they can't recruit. I'd say for Coach Erstad coming in, there was a little of both with what he's been thrown at. This would be like throwing Coach Miles under the bus this season because he was supposed to be a miracle worker with the cards he's been dealt. That's just not fair, and it's ridiculous for fans to think that's an acceptible attitude to have. No, no, no. Not even close. Comparing the talent in the basketball program to the talent in the baseball program is asinine. It's not even close. Erstad was given a hand MUCH more similar to the one Pelini was given compared to the one that Miles has been given.
  21. Thank you, I will call him out for crying. Because he's not taking a wait-and-see attitude like you're advocating, he's denouncing the hire right now. Eh, yes and no. We have been led to believe that we have quite a bit of talent on this team, it was just the downfall of A that he couldn't get them to play well or inspired. Erstad/Bolt, with the offense, have done that pretty well so far. However, the pitching staff, under one of the best pitching coaches in the nation, has still failed to impress. Maybe the talent isn't as great as we've been led to believe, I guess we'll see. However, with the limitations in the Big Ten, I really don't see a 'better' time coming soon in the future. These first couple of years are the years to win.
  22. I truly believed that we were NOT this bad. The pitching is absolutely horrendous. I never expected us to win the conference or compete for an at large bid into the NCAAs, but we are competing for a spot in the freaking Big Ten conference tourney. Seriously. I do think the team has made progress, but not a ton. Obviously we have to wait and see what kind of players we can get in here, but this year is not good...not good at all. You don't have to be a debbie downer to think that and everyone cal call gumbercules out for "crying" but plain and simple, he's right. We are one of the worst teams in one of the worst conferences. Please, argue that.
  23. And this is the exact reason why he should have left. All the arguments when Bubba was deciding if he should go to BB or not and a few was saying he should get his degree first before millions. How much money did Crick just lose because he stayed an extra year? How much did SUH make for staying the extra year. Easy to compare looking back. No injury, Crick looks like genius for staying. Look at Luck as well. You never can tell. Luck doesn't matter, he woulda gone #1 last year....
