  1. I will agree that way to many people are over reacting, Watson is a good coach. There were some calls in this game that made me wonder, for example going away from the power game. But i would like to point out that if we dont have 4 turnovers inside the 5 yard line we win 35-9 and no one would be whining about Watson. Also every game i have more and more doubts in Lee, i started out the year praising him and i thought the QB position would be a strength this year. Lee did not play bad vs. Iowa St. but he definitely did not play good. Lee was average at best, and the problem with that is we dont have enough playmakers on offense for our QB to be just average. We need some more playmakers on offense, and Lee just is not that person. If you were to put a lot of talent around Lee i think he would do very good cause he is cautious and does not force that ball very often From what i have seen, when Lee drops back to pass, he stairs down 1 WR and if that WR is covered he goes straight to his outlet pass (usually a RB). When you put him in a position where he is forced to press the ball down field, it gets ugly. On Lees last two drives, when he really needed to move the ball down field things did not look good. Lees stats on last two dries: -2 completions on 8 attempts for 23 yards with 2 INTs (i know that first Int was tipped but that was still a bad pass) So when things matter the most Lee seems to be at his worst. I like Zac Lee, he is a great kid and he will do great in life but that will not win football games. Time to start giving Green some more looks
  2. I have a question....... if you block a player from the opposing team into the punter, is that still a roughing the punter penalty?
  3. Prince on offense........i dont know I have seen Prince drop 2 or 3 easy picks this year that hit him right in the chest, so i think there is a reason he is on the defensive side of the ball However i would like to see him on special teams maybe, if they could get him to catch punts and kicks consistently then why not put him back there and let the Prince "shake and bake"
  4. That is what i figured would happen Coaches would stay loyal to Lee for the starting job, but if we go 2 or 3 drives not looking good i think Green takes over Also i would bet that the coaches have a plan to get Green into the game in the first half at some point even if the offense is rolling.
  5. I agree with the bolded part, and with ISU's defense I could see a fairly decent day. CG will play a lot tomorrow, probably in the first half. I think he will look just as good as Zac does. I think no matter who we have at QB we can go 9-3 and win the North. So for fun, here is my prediction with both starters Game result with CG result with ZL ISU W 41-7 W 31-14 I feel ZL will have the defense on the field longer @ Baylor W 24-3 W 17-10 CG first road game, Lee on the road OU L 17-21 L 7-31 Don't like our chances in this game, same ol' Lee @ KU W 41-21 W 35-31 There D is so bad we will score, our D will slow them down KSU W 49-3 W 31-10 Again the D is tired, on the field too long with Lee @ CU W 27-10 W 21-13 Usually close, we pull away at the end. So I think the record would be the same, but think we COULD be a better team with a mobile QB. I realize I don't have much to go off of for this prediction, just my gut feeling. I feel CG may have took a lot of chances, but at least he isn't afraid to try and make a play. I also think he wouldn't press so much if he wasn't down by 3 TDs. I guess I feel that if you win the same games with CG or ZL, and if you think CG wins the starting job next year, why don't you start him now? Anyway, there you go, my prediction. I agree that with either QB we will go 9-3 however i think that with Lee our offense will be a little more consistent considering Lee knows the offense much better that Green and the defenses we have left (minus OU) are not good, we have all seen what Lee can do when he goes against a bad D Having said that, I think Green should get his chance to show what he can do. Its not like NU will be playing for a National Championship next year with Lee, so why not groom Green for the future I can handle some freshmen mistakes this year, with the benefits coming in 1 or 2 years.
  6. they need to start putting people in sections by age, put all those old people who want to sit the whole game in the north endzone opposite the students section. and for you older folks who want to be part of the cheering you can request a pass to come sit with the "loud Husker Nation" Or the could just expand the student section
  7. Personally i think that Memorial Stadium is intimidating for the opposing team. Now in recent years this may not be true because our teams specifically our defenses have not been good and i think a good defense really feeds a crowd. However, NU has one of the biggest stadiums in the Big 12 and our fans are defininetly the most dedicated. When an opposing team comes to Lincoln they know that the fans are gonna be there earlier and will cheer loud. Now as a fan you cant cheer when the other team scores but as long as we are still in a game the fans(students) stand up and cheer loud No fans cheer constantly no matter the score, if your team is down by 40 and playing bad, the fans are not gonna be real into the game. I think for the most part our fans do a very good job. I have never been to any other stadiums, so can someone on here who has traveled to a few more game compare Memorial Stadium to some other venues.
  8. The only counter-argument I offer is that I think Zac Taylor did a pretty good job considering his physical tools. If you gave him the physical tools of say, a Zac Lee, I think Taylor would have been a phenomenal quarterback. Just my opinion though. Nice post. Where I am coming from is that Lee is aiming the ball more than he is throwing the ball. So far Watson hasn't been successful in correcting this. When he warms up he zips the ball. In the spring game he was throwing the ball with authority. In this years games he is aiming the ball rather than throwing the ball. I just thought of something, has Watson been the OC since Callahan got here? If not, I guess that kind of lost some validity with my Zac Taylor comments lol. I think he has been here that long though, right? And I couldn't agree more. He seems to be over-analyzing where he wants to throw instead of just doing it. He seems to be thinking of all the things that COULD go wrong instead of just focusing on making plays. It is frustrating to watch. Wats has not been the OC since BC. It was originally Jay Norvell. But i think Watson has been the OC since 2006 which was Zac Taylor's final year
  9. If Zac Lee continues to start this year, here is something to think about: Is Zac Lee good enough to keep Cody Green off the field next year when Green has a year of experience in this offense? I think that right now Lee has a slight advantage over Green because of his knowledge of the offense, but with Green's athletic ability i think that next he will win the job no matter what happens the rest of this year
  10. Probably not very good, I only put these stats up to say is the final score was not a great indication of the game. Perform simple, fundamental tasks and NU is in this game in the end.
  11. Thats exactly why i put this out there, people need to take it easy. Almost all of our mistakes are correctable. We deserved to lose the Tech game, thats for sure, but everything is not falling apart like it did in '07 under Cally
  12. I have been a Zac Lee fan also, and i think if you put Zac on last years team he does very well cause he would have a better O-line and would be throwing to Nate Swift and Todd Peterson. But he is on this team and what this offense needs is a playmaker, and i think Cody Green gives you that. When Green got into the game i saw more than once a defensive player try to tackle Green and he shook the defender off with ease. Lee goes down to easy and with a struggling Oline and inconsistent WR's we need a QB that will be strong in the pocket and also will tuck the ball and run. Lee needs playmakers to make plays, you take Helu out and there goes your only playmaker. Green is a playmaker.
  13. First of all i am in complete agreement, our offense did not perform against a very suspect defense and they should get some heat for it. We should have some very upset coaches and some upset fans. What we dont need are people calling for Pelini and Watson to be fired. So we lost a game we could have won, its not the end of the world. We can still win the North and have a chance to win the Big 12, its not that big of a loss and by the way the last time we won a game with under 300 yards of offense...... two weeks ago at Missouri
  14. If, If's were fifths, we'd all be drunk! You are exactly right....... If ifs and buts were candy and nuts it would be christmas everyday. At the end of the day we didnt make those plays and Tech did, so we lost, and we deserved to lose. The point of this thread was to tell those panic attacked fans to take it easy.
  15. Here some things to think about: Some people need to take a step back and look at the Texas Tech game, it was not as bad as you might think. Stats from the Texas Tech game: - Total offense- NU-285 vs. TT-259 (that is the fewest yards Tech has gained IN 3 YEARS) - 3rd down conversions- NU-6/15 vs. TT-6/14 - sacks- NU-5 for -42 yards vs TT-5 for -22 yards Why did we lose? -Turnovers- NU-2 (1 returned for a touchdown) vs. TT-0 -Redzone scoring- NU-2/5 vs. TT 4/4 -Penalties- NU-12 for 95 yards vs. TT-4 for 40 yards So if you take a closer look at the game, our defense played very good, and our offense was not as bad as first thought. We can NOT turn the ball over especially in the red zone and we need to take advantage of our chances in the redzone and score everytime. You can somewhat put those penalties on the coaches but if you are calling for Watson or Pelini's heads anwser me this: Do you really think Pelini is gonna just accept those penalties, I have complete faith in the coaches to correct those mental mistakes. Little more food for thought: We were two plays from having a chance to tie this game. Now i am not the kind of person who thinks 1 or 2 plays determine a game. However if Niles Paul catches that ball or someone just tackles that guy who picked up that fumble that makes the final score 24-10. Then if Curenski Gilleylen catches that tipped pass from Cody Green that litterally hit him in the numbers, Gilleylen cruises to a TD and that makes the final score 24-17 That would completely change the game, instead of just putting Green in and having him throw every down, we could have run the ball. Maybe instead of ending that one drive with an INT, we score the tying touchdown. I realize that if this senario did play out, TT would have completely changed their game plan and things would have been different, but this is just a few things to think about for all these people in panic mode
  16. Dont sit Helu the entire game start Helu, get a ahead by a few touchdowns and then take him out by halftime. if Iowa St. starts moving the ball some how on our D bring Helu back in and seal the deal. but dont just assume we are gonna come out and dominate with anyone running the ball teams get upset when they dont take their oppenent serious
  17. I got those rankings from a link at huskerpedia.com just go here: http://www.huskerpedia.com/2000s.html#2008 at the bottom of each years results is a stats link. click on that and it takes you to the huskers.com stats sheet. then at the top of the page there is a link that says National Rankings
  18. RANT (sorry for the length but i had a lot to say) First thing that is bothering me here is all the poeple saying we needd to put SUH on offense. In the preseason i heard a lot of hype about Tyler Legate, they said he is as punishing a blocker as we have on the team. He was supposed to be the next Makovicka, but someone correct me if im wrong, have we even given this kid a chance to prove himself in goal line situations. So i would think before we just throw Suh out there and run right at them lets give our true fullback to do his job. Now dont take this the wrong way, i think Suh would do great as a lead blocker. But also i think Eric Crouch would have been a great cover corner, and Ahman Green would have been a great linebacker. So why didnt we play those guys both ways, Answer: these football players are human, not machines. They are gonna get tired and worn out if you run them out on the field every chance the coaches can. Heck why stop at fullback, lets put Suh on KO and KO return, it would be amazing seeing that 300 pound beast flying down the field taking peoples heads off. But if you do that then when the game is on the line and our defense needs one more stop, Suh we not be able to perform at the standard we have come to expect, he wont run the RB down, he wont shed that lineman and get in the QBs face. I want suh to be the beast he is on defense and give the real fullbacks a shot at doing there job. Number two of this rant is about all the people getting on Watson and Gilmore sayin they are terrible coaches. However i do think that the last two games (Tech and Missouri) the WR and QB play has been anything but good. The WR's have struggled to catch the ball and our Lee pushed anything down field, opting to take the dump down instead of putting pressure on the defense, also he seems scared in the pocket and goes down way to easy. But how much of this is our coaches fault, Gilmore cant go out there and catch the ball for our WRs. Watson cant go out there and show Lee where to throw the ball. Before you get on these two coaches you need to look at some stats: 2006 Total offense- 14th Passing offense- 23rd Scoring offense- 17th 2007 Total offense-9th Passing offense- 7th Scoring offense- 28th 2008 Total offense- 12th Passing offense-15th Scoring offense17th Passing offense is direct results of QBs and WRs for the most part, and those are some pretty good stats if you ask me. We have very high expectations for our offense because of how good our coaches have been and we have been blessed with a few QBs and WRs that were alot better than expected. Now we have a QB and some WRs under performing and all of a sudden these coaches suck. Personally i think coaches get to much credit for winning and to much credit for losing, a coach can only do so much.
  19. exactly we need to quit following and start innovating a new offense that defenses dont see every week
  20. I read something a few days ago (cant remember where i read it) that has really stuck with me. All this spread offense that is all over college football is just a fad that has come and will go by the way side sometime, probably soon. You can watch the proof of this every sunday on tv. You dont see the slightess bit of spread offense in the NFL on sundays. This tells me that if you have the right game plan and the right athletes then this offense will not be successful. Its just a matter of time until someone comes up with a scheme to stop these spread offenses that are putting up video game like numbers every saturday. so what does everyone think........is the spread here to stay? should Nebraska continue to run this west coast/spread offense? what offense should we run?
  21. seriously some people just need to shut it...........this is getting ridiculous, its one game and suddenly our whole coaching staff is just terrible. go root of Missouri or Colorado we dont need fans like that in Nebraska
  22. Im not comparing this team to the 90's teams, cause those 90's teams were ridiculous. My point is that Pelini seems to be getting everything he can out of his players he is motivating them to play better every week. Osborne did the same thing but in a different way.
  23. I have never like Jim Rome, i have always thought that Rome is one of thsoe reporters like Colin Cowherd who just talks crap about athletes and teams, just so fans of the team/player will get mad, and haters of the team/player will love what he is saying, cause in both cases the fan will be listening or watching his show to see what he says next. I still dont really like Rome, but he seems to like Nebraska, or atleast Pelini. Pelini has been on "Rome is burning" twice and I just listned to him talk up Suh, and give NU some credit for pulling out that game last night. I think he likes us..............
  24. Now dont take this the wrong way, i am not trying to say Pelini should even be compared with Tom Osborne. Pelini needs to win a few championships and be consistent for a long time to even to be mentioned in the same sentence with Dr. Osborne. However one thing that Pelini seems to be doing, that we have not seen since 90's, is get the most out of his players. Pelini will not let his players be satified with there performance no matter how good they are. Just look at Suh.......if #93 came out this season and preformed like he did last year, no one would have said anything. In fact everyone would probably be happy and he would be drafted in the top 10. But............. Pelini will not let Suh settle for being really good, Pelini is pushing Suh to be one of the best DL every at NU. Osborne did the same thing with his players, he got all he could out of them. Pelini and Osborne have two completely different personallities but they both get all they can out of there players. Personally i think for a college coach that is one of the most important traits a coach can have, motivate your players to be better. What does everyone else think about this.
