  1. True. It's been a surprisingly disappointing year. But who knew coming into this season that we'd be rebuilding? Perhaps that's what's most disappointing.
  2. Doodlebug does post from Oklahoma, and as we all know, there is no such thing as a Husker fan in Okie Land. So this must be true.
  3. God only knows why his attorney is letting him do this, but Sandusky is appearing on NBC tonight, interviewed by Bob Costas. Jerry Sandusky to Bob Costas in exclusive 'Rock Center' interview: "I shouldn't have showered with those kids." I really don't think I could watch this and not get sick. No explanation suffices for what he did.
  4. If ever there was a time for NU to utilize a Spy, this is the time. Lavonte David would be excellent in that role, too.
  5. That is bizarre. I'm seeing the same thing. We have a ten-game roadie to start the season, but that's not unusual considering how bad the weather usually is.
  6. Perhaps if you are a Clemson fan. At this point in the season I expected to be in the running to win the division by winning out, not by hoping someone else loses. While you have a point about the division because we have only ourselves to blame for losing to Northwestern, that doesn't eliminate everything else we've done on the year.
  7. This is the second straight year we've beaten two ranked opponents, at least one of which was on the road both years. Second straight year we've beaten a team ranked higher than us. While we're not getting better as fast as I'd like, and while the defense isn't what anyone has expected, it could be a lot worse right now.
  8. These teams are nearly mirror images of each other. We have almost identical rankings on the major offensive and defensive categories.
  9. That's a great point. Makes the Northwestern debacle all that much more horrible. That gripe aside, this has been a very successful season so far. If you would have told me we'd be 8-2 at this point in the season, I'd have been pretty happy with that. We've beaten some solid teams: Ohio State Washington Wyoming - bowl-eligible! Michigan State Penn State Even if we lose to Michigan at The Big House and beat Iowa, that's a 9-3 regular season with several good wins, two understandable losses and one bad game. That's not a terrible season, especially when you remember the turmoil we went through with the coaching turnover after last season and the fact that we have a pretty young team.
  10. Woody was also the product of a much different era. It's never been OK to punch players/cameramen, but it was less "not OK" back in the day.
  11. Already a thread about this in the Big Ten forum.
  12. I don't disagree with that at all, and I've said similar things in other threads. I also tie that into my dislike of how Bo handles the Blackshirts - in year four of his tenure, if these guys haven't earned their Blackshirts by the second week of the season, that's entirely on the coaches for 1) recruiting the wrong players or 2) failing to train/motivate them to play to Bo's standards.
  13. Bo said in today's presser that Qvale and Thompson are both day-to-day with injuries. Ben Cotton and Andrew Rodriguez are doubtful for Michigan. EDIT - here's an updated from the LJS: Bo Pelini was asked about several injuries Monday. -- Starting tight end Ben Cotton is doubtful for Saturday's game at Michigan, the Husker coach said. Cotton's right arm was in a sling after the Penn State game. -- Starting LG Andrew Rodriguez also is doubtful. He didn't make the trip to Penn State because of an undisclosed injury, which I believe happened late last week in practice. -- Reserve offensive guard Brandon Thompson and backup wideout Khiry Cooper are "day-to-day" because of injuries. -- Pelini expects reserve guard Brent Qvale to return to action this week. He could be a big help with depth behind guards Seung Hoon Choi and Spencer Long, who played every down at Penn State. LINK
  14. I have to admit, I was shocked to read this. Someone posted a link earlier showing he was currently rated the 10th-best QB in this year's draft. Really surprised by that. I figured he was decent, but nothing to get really excited about.
  15. I agree. I would have done the scholarship interview. Yale/Harvard can't possibly be more important than the rest of your life. I'm surprised they couldn't work with him on this, though. You would think that there would be some way to reschedule.
  16. Maher just picked up his third Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honor: Co-Special Teams Player of the Week Brett Maher, Nebraska Jr., K, Kearney, Neb./Kearney • Averaged 45.0 yards per punt on eight punts, placing five inside the 20-yard line • Had two punts of 50 yards or more with a long of 61 that came in the game’s final five minutes • Converted on a 41-yard field goal and is now 16-of-19 on field goal attempts this season • Claims his third career weekly Big Ten honor • Last Nebraska Special Teams Player of the Week: Brett Maher (Oct. 10, 2011) Bruce Gaston, Purdue So., DT, Chicago, Ill./St. Rita • Blocked a potential game-winning extra point by Ohio State with 55 seconds remaining to force overtime • Allowed Purdue to secure its second straight home victory over the Buckeyes • Claims the first weekly honor of his career • Last Purdue Special Teams Player of the Week: Kawann Short (Oct. 11, 2010)
  17. There is no reason to post things like this. If you don't like the thread, don't post in it. If you have a gripe about the person, take it to the Woodshed.
  18. Kinnie has had some horrible drops this year, that's for sure, but he's a far better blocker, and the coaches put a LOT of stock into that. Turner with his slight frame can't throw blocks like Kinnie, and I'd bet that's a huge reason he's not seeing the field.
  19. Haven't read this thread, but has anyone mentioned Nebraska? We seem to be our own worst enemy most games. Most of our losses in the Bo Pelini era can be directly attributed to self-inflicted wounds. 2008 VA Tech - Good team, but penalties at the end were too difficult to overcome Missouri - We just got beat. This was a Missouri win, not a Nebraska loss. Doesn't support this argument. Texas Tech - Several chances to win this game, but costly turnovers (including the game-ender in OT) were our worst enemy Oklahoma - Another win by the opponent that doesn't support this argument. 2009 VA Tech - Dropped passes, blown coverages, passive defense when aggression was called for, you name it. We did everything we could to lose this game. It worked. Texas Tech - One of the first lack-of-motivation games in the Pelini Era. We did not come to compete against this team. Iowa State - Turnover meltdown against a vastly overmatched opponent. A loss at home to a team barely over .500 Texas - The Big XII Championship loss based on horrible play-calling, and overall lack of will by the offense. A very winnable game. 2010 Texas - A complete meltdown on both sides of the ball. Poor execution everywhere. Texas A&M - zero offensive punch. A loss more on the coaches than the players, based on their insistence of starting an injured QB. Lack of effort by the O Line was key. Oklahoma - blew a 17-point lead in a game that we had in hand. Washington - one of the most embarrassing losses in the last decade. Zero effort on either side of the ball. 2011 Wisconsin - they just whupped us. While we did some dumb things, I give this win more to Wiscy than pin it as our loss. Northwestern - Total lack of preparation and effort by the coaches and team. Several team sources have openly stated we overlooked this team. Very embarrassing loss. By my count, that's 11 of the last 14 losses we've had where you can directly attribute the loss to our errors, lack of preparation, lack of motivation, lack of effort. That it comes from both the players and the coaches is the most troubling. So to answer the question, objectively, which team can't we beat? I'd say the team that tops that list is Nebraska.
  20. With Boise St. going down there's a lot up in the air right now. If we and Michigan State both win out, they're saying it's possible we could get an at-large bid to the BCS. I think that's unlikely (that we get in) but if another Big Ten team gets an at-large, that puts us out of the Insight bowl, most likely. Representatives of the Capital One Bowl were at the Penn State game, so that's a possibility. I could see us going there or to the Gator Bowl, both of which will put us up against the SEC. Kansas State has to beat Texas and Iowa State to hold onto their #3 position in the Big XII. I would be surprised if they don't lose one of those games. I am stunned that A&M's defense caved like they did, or we'd be looking at a three-game skid for the Wildcats. Snyder has to be in contention for Coach of the Year - he's getting these guys to play WAAAAAAY above their talent level. But if we ended up playing them, I have no doubt we'd be able to take them down. The Big Ten Conference has eight bowl tie-ins. #1 Bowl Championship Series. As of the 2011 season, the winner of the Big Ten Championship Game gains an automatic berth to a BCS bowl game, preferentially the Rose Bowl. #2 The Capital One Bowl receives the second choice from the Big Ten, but must choose from remaining teams with the best overall record, or within one win of the best overall record. Starting in 2011, it may choose to take the runner up of the Big Ten Championship Game should its record be better than the league champion. #3 The Outback Bowl receives the third choice of Big Ten teams. #4 The Gator Bowl receives the fourth choice of Big Ten teams. #5 The Insight Bowl receives the fifth choice of Big Ten teams #6 The Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas receives the sixth choice of Big Ten teams. #7 The TicketCity Bowl receives the seventh choice from the Big Ten. #8 The Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl will take the eighth choice from the Big Ten; if no remaining teams are available, the bowl will choose a Sun Belt team.
