  1. George Washington: Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come. Eddie Harris: You know you might think about taking Jesus Christ as your savior instead of fooling around with all this stuff. George Washington: Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball. Eddie Harris: You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?
  2. Props to the OP for figuring out the path, but even if all the dominoes fell just right, I'll agree with the majority in this thread - we are not ready for a National Championship game, and we would get embarrassingly rolled on national TV. We need to keep taking the necessary steps to get there. We're on the journey. We haven't arrived yet. EDIT - also, welcome to the board, HuskerinSunDiego! Please post more stuff like this!
  3. There are people doing the shoe thing up in the nosebleeds in Sec. 34 where I sit, so it's not only the students anymore. I have no idea when it started. Seems to me that it predates Kunalic by a few years. It's a fun thing to do, and a better "tradition" if it starts spontaneously rather than have the soundsystem try to direct it, or the university in general try to start it. All traditions that start spontaneously, or for no apparent reason, are better. The spirit finger thing is equally good, although until this thread I didn't know it was called Spirit Fingers. And although I do the "aaaahhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHH OOOOOOOOO" thing, I don't do Spirit Fingers.
  4. not being serious i hope? ??? Always hard to tell when someone is speaking sarcastically with no indication, and I don't understand what the sarcasm would be here. I 'm virtually certain that Sagarin's system doesn't factor in future games, nor is his computer "clearly concerned" about anything but facts of games played. :confucius :confucius :confucius I have no idea what I was thinking when I wrote that. I even mentioned something to Badgerfan later this AM about Sagarin not taking future games into account. Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself. I have no explanation for why I wrote that. BCS rankings are out. As BBBXII mentioned, we're #10. Not bad for a team learning a new offense, first year in a new league with new opponents and the #38 schedule in the country.
  5. I am right there with you. He has a lot of great qualities, and I'm glad he's our QB most of the time, but yeah - throwing motion, decision-making, etc. is all not where I wish it would be. With these WRs, you just hope we're not wasting that aspect of our game. But he is what he is. Like you said, I admire a lot about him.
  6. What's going on over there is a business issue. At HuskerBoard we're just interested in talking Husker football (and volleyball, and baseball, and basketball, etc).
  7. Welcome to HuskerBoard! Make yourself at home.
  8. What is the guy to the right doing to crazy guy's hat? That's almost more strange than crazy guy.
  9. Northwestern has played a pretty mediocre schedule, and against that schedule they have VERY bad defensive numbers. Their highest ranking in any of the major defensive statistics is 90th. The numbers (those with weak stomachs may want to avert their eyes): Rushing Defense - 95th Pass Efficiency Defense - 101st Total (Yards) Defense - 98th Scoring Defense - 90th They give up three sacks per game and they are 73rd in the nation in kickoff return coverage. God help them if they kick the ball to Ameer. Heck, God help them if they kick it to Marlowe - you all saw what he did on that Rexcat play against Sparty. NW is decent on offense, and Persa will absolutely pick you apart if you give him time to throw. So don't give him time to throw. Have someone spy him on the run and send the house at him every single down when it even remotely seems like he might pass.
  10. Hating on the BCS is a whole 'nother conversation.
  11. hmmm I don't think its worth much. At Bama, At LSU and hosting SC, Auburn, and a game that was essentially at A&M. That doesn't seem like a 61 schedule to me but ok. That's schedule as played, not projecting for the season. They haven't played South Carolina or LSU yet.
  12. Michigan is the toughest team left on our schedule, mostly because of Dennard Robinson and the fact that we play them in The Big House. Their defense is improving, and Robinson can beat you by himself. Penn State will not be easy in Happy Valley, but their offense is horrid and their defense is mediocre. Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin all have better defenses. We score 17 points against Penn State (our lowest output against the three toughest defenses we've faced) and we win that game. We could lose any of our four remaining games. It's a tough stretch, and there isn't a team we can rest against. But we could win every game as well. We just have to build on this win, not rest on our laurels. Hopefully earning those Blackshirts makes the defense confident and not overconfident.
  13. For what it's worth, Sagarin has Arkansas' schedule ranked 61st in the nation. Nebraska's is 38th.
  14. Did you even watch this play? Martin gets up, backs away, raises his hands two times, and runs off the field. He's not sitting there staring at the guy for five seconds, and it's not like he had some outrageous celebration. He raised his hands twice and ran off the field. You are way overreacting to this.
  15. Massey and Sagarin are the BCS' version of the old saw, "Lies, damned lies and statistics." They can all be manipulated to say what isn't necessarily true. They are the most unbiased of the rankings, but not necessarily the most accurate.
  16. Good review but ^this^ is arguable No it's not. They really do play football.
  17. So nobody should ever celebrate, ever, because on every single play someone could be potentially seriously hurt. That's what you're saying. The player should make the big hit, but stop and see whether the opponent laying on the ground is OK before celebrating every time, and if they don't, they're showing an inhuman reaction. After we sacked Cousins those several times, we should have gotten up, checked his health, and then celebrated. That is so wholly unrealistic. When do you ever see this happen?
  18. I didn't miss anything about that play. I was right there in the north endzone watching it, and watching Martin's reaction. I watched it again on DVR last night. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Martin's hit or reaction. Martin is not a robot. He is a high-energy, high-emotion guy. He just made a big hit on the first play of a big game against a top-ten opponent. Expecting a guy like that to calmly walk off the field is like expecting the sun to rise in the west tomorrow.
  19. Yes, definitely. Not only do I have confidence in Enunwa and BK to block VERY WELL on the edges, but they are also both accomplished WRs in their own right. BK has had some uncharacteristic drops this year (sprained thumb probably having a lot to do with that), but overall they are an awesome duo. Throw Kenny Bell into that mix and Jamal Turner at times, and this may be the most talented WR corps we ever had.
  20. I don't see why you'd defend them. They are everything that is wrong with sports.
  21. Did it seem like the air was dead? Usually I can hear the band in pre-game just fine, but I could barely hear them yesterday. Couldn't even hear the drum line start the show. It felt like the atmosphere itself had zero energy.
  22. I didn't have a drop before the game. Didn't even get downtown for coffee. I stood and hollered all four quarters on pure knapplc energy, no red cup energy, no caffeine. It sucked. NO MORE 11AM GAMES.
  23. Go watch it again. Martin celebrated for maybe 1/2 a second before realizing the guy was out cold, and he immediately calmed down and backed away like he was scared of the guy. Martin had just got his bell rung as well. You have to forgive him making an instant's celebration after a huge hit. This is football. You should not be disturbed by that play.
