  1. I don't get things for Father's Day. It's not a gift-giving holiday in my family, kind of like Valentine's Day - we feel like it's a made-up holiday to sell greeting cards. We had the in-laws over for BBQ ribs, garlic & rosemary mashed potatoes and haricot verts, which I pan-seared in bacon fat and butter. After that we played several games of Uno. Good times.
  2. I work Fridays. I'd rather do this on a Friday or Saturday night. We need to pick a day, preferably sometime around the start of Fall Camp (so there's some Husker news to talk about), and just do it. We've talked about it too much. We could also do this several times, since so many of us live in Lincoln. We should do this once or twice during the season, too, for folks who live out of state to join in when they come to a game.
  3. What???!?!?! You don't think it's more important to show NFL games where 1/4 of the teams will be resting their starters, about half of the teams will be eliminated from any playoff contention, and the other 1/4 who are still trying to earn playoff spots are playing one of those other teams in the 3/4 of the league? I think you're missing the charm of sterile, meaningless football, Malth. Between that and watching paint dry, I'm not sure there's a more exciting way to spend a Sunday afternoon late in the NFL regular season.
  4. So lemme get this straight. Iowa is going to have a "Wiscy-like" offense this year? All because their QB has another season under his belt? Last year's Offensive Ranks: Wiscy Rushing O - 12th Passing O - 75th Scoring O - 5th Total O - 21st Iowa Rushing O - 70th Passing O - 49th Scoring O - 50th Total O - 57th So Iowa is going to improve 58 spots in Rushing, stay the same/improve in passing, while improving 45 spots in Scoring and 36 spots in Total Offense from 2010 to 2011? And they're going to do this because.... why? I'm digging your homer-ism, bigg10, but that's not even remotely realistic.
  5. Exactly. The Nebraskans he's writing that article to are the same Nebraskans who applauded Texas off the field last October after breaking our hearts once again. It's a pretty common thing for the Weird Herald writers to characterize Nebraska fans in a bad light, while their hometown Creighton fans can do no wrong. Not sure why they have this "us vs. them" attitude, but it comes out in their writing a lot. Um... Didn't Texas get booed last night when they were introduced? ...Must have been those damned Florida fans. Didn't hear it, but I'll take your word for it. Looks like Barf is right - we're such bad fans.
  6. Between the sound system and the difficulty in synchronizing your clapping with someone 300 feet away (middle of East stadium to middle of West stadium) or 550 feet away (middle of North stadium to middle of South stadium), it's no wonder it takes a while to sort itself out. Combine that with echoes and you're going to have some off-beat clapping. In other news, they've shaved another point off our lead overnight. We're back down to a four-point lead in this thing, if anyone cares. The whole "contest" is just an ad for EA Sports.
  7. Do you sit in the ga section? Ive been the past 2 years and seen some crazy sh#t talking. Between fans of many different teams. What Barf is specifically talking about is Nebraskans treating the Longhorns with class. Overall we'll be fine. Yes there will be some idiots, but for the most part there will be no problem.
  8. Yes, I do think that BSU's headlines help draws students. It can't not - it's free advertising for the university.
  9. These profs are tilting at windmills. Show me an English department or a BA department that brings millions into their college annually. Show me a math department that puts their school's name in headlines six months out of the year - free advertising for that university - and they have a point. Athletics puts schools on the map. Does anyone really think we'd even know about Boise St. University if they didn't have success on the football field these past few years? I don't remember hearing about the BSU J-School making the news much, or their science department grabbing headlines.
  10. Exactly. The Nebraskans he's writing that article to are the same Nebraskans who applauded Texas off the field last October after breaking our hearts once again. 11. Accidentally drove through the EPA (East Palo Alto) one night. We had just moved to the area and had no idea that right across the 101 from one of the most affluent cities on the peninsula (Menlo Park) was EPA, which in the 90s had one of the highest murder rates in the nation. One minute we're driving through tree-filled lanes with beautiful, multi-million dollar homes, the next we're in the hood, and everyone was watching our car. It took about five minutes to work around the block, get back on the main street and get out of there.
  12. Why do we even care enough about Texas to write an article like that? They're getting smaller and smaller in the rear-view mirror. We've crossed that bridge and we aren't going back.
  13. Right because I didn't go out of my way to post a disclaimer stating that I was trolling. Seriously I didn't. No honestly, that totally didn't happen. I was honestly only giving you guys a hard time, usually happens when I drink and get on this board, but makes it fun for me. I will say, sure some of the time the kids say it in a pretentious way, no doubt, but you would be amazed at how many people don't realize there is a difference in the simple pronunciation of the article. But as I said it was all in good fun, I figure it is easier to get away with that here than other big ten boards b/c they have become so sick of the "Thee" thing. I did post that on an SEC board and the amount of positive posts (in a non-condescending way) I got back was large because they actually didn't know there was a difference between the two pronunciations and how the article is used before constants as opposed to vowels (what that says about the South is for another thread), so I bring it up all the time, I figured you guys would get I was just making fun of the situation and I am sure you did. Edit: not only is sarcasm unusually hard to discern on message boards but even mine in person is. A second edit: something that made me laugh came from an Iowa fan. I did not check on this, but his reasoning for OSU being pretentious in using it as our official name didnn't make sense to him b/c the acutal name of the university of Iowa is something completely differenty but b/c they dont use thier official name then OSU shouldn't either, sounded like terrific logic to me. Third edit: you guys always seem so easy to get along with so I always figure I can be my sarcastic self and you guys will get it, but then I have to remember sarcasm again doesnt always come across on type... need to work on that. I think the biggest problem is the lack of translation of sarcasm across the internet. It's bitten me several times, too.
  14. That was before we played in Memorial Stadium You get a gold star and a +1.
  15. Rex may just be our offensive MVP this year. While there may be better running backs in the conference, I doubt any are more integral to their team's success, or more useful, than Rex.
  16. I would have to agree that my biggest gripe with the Big Ten logo is the color. That baby blue is very blah.
  17. So get this. I run to that same Wal-Mart last night, for maybe the third time since this little episode, and who do I see not ten feet from the very spot where this happened? You guessed it - Ndamukong Suh. Having learned my lesson I didn't even offer the fist for a bump. Besides, he was talking with some other dude so I didn't want to be that guy who butts in. Suh probably enjoys walking into a store without being manhandled these days.
  18. They've gotten organized on BuckeyePlanet. Want to know why they've chopped our lead way down? They load several different browsers on their machines, and each person votes four, five times. Then there are others who use private browsing to vote over and over. Last night when I went to bed there were about 2,800 votes from the state of Ohio - less than the votes from Nebraska. This morning when I wake up there are over 4,000 votes from Ohio. Think those are unique votes? Me neither.
  19. Kansas State is looking for some fans if Husker fandom doesn't meet with your standards.
  20. Every conference has patsies, though. To say our wins are padded you'd have to say the same thing about Michigan, who played Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Northwestern every year. Most years Sparty is down rather than up, and Wiscy has been hit-and-miss over the years. Iowa has been down a lot, especially in the 90s. Purdue has had a few decent years in the last couple of decades as well. There are very few teams with tons of wins who can say they earned the bulk of them against top opponents.
  21. I don't know if anyone is saying they could, are they? Also, does it look to anyone else like they gave these people a bunch of stock backgrounds and fonts to use? Way too many similar fonts/backgrounds to be coincidental.
  22. Is there a connection to these two posts that I'm not seeing?
  23. Vote early, vote often. The lead is down to 10%. It was 18% last night.
