  1. i you're avatar is awesome. yes, where did you get that avatar, and why does it make me so hot and bothered? also, thank you knapplc for moving this. i thought this thread was funny, but the expansion forum is crowded enough. also, i thought i could get huskersillustrated to let me join for free. they said i would have to pay just as everyone else, but i didn't buy it. in the end, they did not concede, and i got an offer that if i stayed here, everyone would have to give me their reputation points. I didn't move this one. I've moved a TON of threads in the past few weeks, but this wasn't one of them. I think.
  2. I hate to say this as a Bears fan, but I'm pulling for the Lions this year. A little.
  3. I don't get that, either. This is a football site (primarily), so probably most members just want to talk football. Nexus (another member) and I, and a couple of others whom I should know but can't recall right now, have been pimping the CIC for a while now, talking about how membership in the Big 10/CIC really helped Penn State turn into a better academic institution, etc. Most folks are like, "That's nice" and move on to a thread about football, but there are a few of us who are really pumped about the academic side. Bottom line, when the Big 10 made it known to Nebraska that they would take us if we jumped ship, Perlman and Osborne jumped at the chance. The football stuff/Big Ten Network is nice, but 90% of the reason they made this decision was because of the academic benefits to NU.
  4. Yeah, I'm skeptical about lots of the MNC's teams claim from way back when there were several handed out each year. How did Minnesota get six MNC's? That seems impossible.
  5. Cool story about RichRod. I don't think he fits in with UM's style/tradition/history, but it's good to see that he does stuff like this. It's a little thing, but it's a special thing for the family. That's cool.
  6. I'm going to have to watch a PSU/NU game then. We have recently had some real barn-burners. In 2007, when PSU won their first of three straight National Championships, Nebraska beat them 3-0 in early September, one of only two losses by PSU that year. In 2008 Penn State had what may have been the best Women's Volleyball team ever. Nebraska was the only school to win a set against the Nittany Lions that year, as PSU went 38-0 to claim their second straight title (we actually won two sets, and were up in set five before PSU rallied and went on to win). That match was again played in Omaha at the Qwest Center, in front of an NCAA-record crowd of over 17,000 fans. We didn't play last year, since Nebraska fell short of the Final Four, but we're going to be back there this year. I'd love another crack at the Nittany Lions in the Final Four. My favorite Husker match of all time was the 1990 NCAA Regional match in Lincoln when 44-0 Penn State came to the Coliseum to knock off the Huskers. Penn State had only lost like two or three games (they were called games back then, and matches). The Huskers were heavy underdogs, but the crowd was LOUD, like rock-concert loud without exaggeration, and Nebraska advanced after winning 3-1. I'm not joking when I say there was dust filtering off the rafters atop the Coliseum - that's how loud that crowd was. Russ Rose is one heck of a coach, and he's built a crazy-good program over there. I'm really, really excited to have them come to town once a year. If you live near University Park, you should definitely try to catch the Husker match when we visit. It'll be a heck of a battle, guaranteed.
  7. You've just explained why people complain about manufactured rivalries. We have no rivalry with Iowa because we have no time invested against them. Give it five or ten years, and preferably a big loss when one of us is heading toward a good season. You've also forgotten another key element: 3) Mutuality There has to be a mutual feeling of rivalry on both sides or there's no rivalry. Nebraska and OU had that mutual feeling for decades, but the feeling was never mutual between Nebraska and Colorado.
  8. Baseball in Nebraska ranks below: Football Women's Volleyball Women's Basketball (last two years) Men's Basketball I'd put it fifth on the list of "most popular Husker sports." The level of competition can only help Nebraska. If we can get more wins with these players we may squeak an at-large bid into the NCAA's. Who knows.
  9. Err.... what? Seriously, where are you getting this stuff? If anyone ruled the Big 8 it was Oklahoma, not Nebraska. But that's off the mark, too. The Big 8 was far more of a group effort than the Big 12. This post is entirely revisionist history and not in keeping with the kind of stuff I expect from you, Cy.
  10. The real question is, for Nebraska fans, how does it feel to have a classless AD in Osborne? Nice Press Conference-Way to throw everyone under the bus on your way out of the Big 12. Cause of course it's everyone elses fault, except Nebraska right? Please. Man up and show some class. You chose to leave. Nobody forced you out. All I can say is don't let the door hit ya. Truth hurts that bad, huh? While the bitterness of your post is amusing, it's ridiculously ironic coming from a fan of a school with Lew Perkins as an AD. You need to worry about the mess in your own house before commenting on any other school. You stay classy, JGS.
  11. This is not our new jersey. This is an old photo of some replica jersey.
  12. I think we can close the Internet now. sd'sker just won.
  13. I'd like an answer to this, if it's not too difficult for you.
  14. Oh - my bad. I didn't see that they were saying 2012. I'll agree with that.
  15. I don't know which years they base the 80% on but I can guarantee we won't get 20% free. We can't guarantee anything, because there is no clear legal position here. Nebraska may not pay a cent, or we may pay the full penalty. It depends on how we define "damages," and that's not been defined yet.
  16. Igetbored, why do you like the Huskers? Tons of teams play football, it's not that hard to pick up, and there are more successful teams than Nebraska out there. You following the Huskers makes as much sense as someone liking soccer, or hockey, or basketball, or anything under the sun.
  17. If you're going to kid havoc about not reading what you write, you may want to write a little more clearly in the first place so we don't have to interpret your post.
  18. I just hope the Big 10 continues to expand and eventually adds Missouri so we can all welcome Fro and MUTigerFan to our conference.
  19. If the Big XII were a gunshot victim it would still be in ICU with internal bleeding and an irregular heartbeat. It would most definitely still be on life support. Missouri still has half a foot out the door. Reports from Aggieland have the 12th Man sharpening his pitchfork and readying torches. Oklahoma and OU Fan might wake up at any moment and realize how utterly foolish they look. Unless you're in Austin or Waco, you're not surrounded by people happy about the way this conference was resuscitated. And all across the landscape of college football there are still rumblings of expansion - the Pac-10, Big 10 and MWC have already added teams, and the Big East has been rumored to be looking around. The Big XII, recently experiencing a shrinking feeling, are rumored to be looking at Houston in their own expansion talks. Bottom line here - if expansion talk continues, the Big XII remains one of the most vulnerable conferences in the country due to geography and internecine fighting. Deep cracks have appeared on the Big XII facade, and the unity you'd expect from a conference alleging future wealth for their members seems nonexistent.
  20. This is why we won't be losing any money in this deal. Texas and the Pips screwed themselves out of millions in "penalty revenue" by renegotiating their TV contract and bringing in more money. Because their revenue is going to go up, they'll have no leg to stand on if they try to claim damages.
  21. I didn't list Colorado because they're not part of the Big 12. They left us, it's not like we left them. I probably could have included them, and a "none of the above" option, but it didn't occur to me when I made the poll. I wonder if I edit the poll, does that erase all the previous votes?
  22. Nexus and I have been on about the CIC since the Nebraska-to-the-Big10 rumors started. The TV deal is nice, and we'll help the Big Ten in TV revenue, but frankly, Nebraska got BY FAR the better end of this deal. Rubbing elbows with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and the rest, plus membership in the finest academic club available to public schools. Yeah, this is a pretty big deal.
  23. If I remember correctly, I think I called the Ohio State win, but I think I got the other three wrong. If that's not right, I think I got all four wrong. The Big 10 really showed up well in the Bowl Games. I was impressed.
