  1. So let me get this straight - Kansas Fan isn't buying into the Husker hype? NOOOOO!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o I originally had a boatload of Mr. Shockey Pants like these up here ^^^ but the board said: Of course they're not. And they raise valid points. It's up to the team to show them they're wrong. I believe they're wrong, but there'll be no convincing them of that without the proof on the field. See: Missouri Fan prior to our game last year.
  2. I have been making my bones strong, oh so strong, while getting the baked potatoes ready tonight.
  3. OK, got it. That just leaves zoogies. Anyone?
  4. I heard this joke once, about a guy talking to a girl, trying to help her understand how guys feel about sex. "You know how you feel when you're really feeling horny?" the guy asked. "Yeah," she replied. "Well," the man says, "that's how guys feel when they're not even thinking about sex." It's the same way for Husker fans. We're more passionate about our Huskers on an average day than most fans of other teams are on game day.
  5. Near as I can tell these guys still need seconds: Zoogies dizzturbedNUfan Remember, today is the last day of nominations for this position.
  6. See, this is the kind of thing that brings out Evil knapplc. 99% of the time I'm this very mild-mannered, kind-hearted guy, out in the world doing good deeds for strangers and the like. But every once in a while Evil knapplc scratches his way to the surface. Most often he shows up when a rush end has beat the tackle and is drawing a bead on a QB's blind side, or when a bubble screen is about to get blown the hell up by a head-hunting safety. Most often those DE's and safeties are wearing scarlet and cream. Rather than feeling concern for my fellow men the WR or the QB, I feel an all-consuming glee at their impending destruction. It's a good feeling. Stuff like Michael's post makes me think that, regardless of who starts, Evil knapplc will have plenty of times to rear his ugly head this season. That's a good thing. Yeah... isn't it nice to be arguing over who will be the best of a really good array of players? For years it has been more an issue of "can we put someone out there who can play?" Now --- at least on defense --- it is more an issue of which beast gets the most snaps. I think so, but for some reason someone gigged my post. Go figure.
  7. And Thad Randle, who is apparently a stud, too. The starting situation is clear as mud. What is crystal clear, though, is that we have a LOT of talent to choose from two-deep on the D Line. Clearly this is one of the reasons Bo said we could be "five times better" on defense this year.
  8. Sagarin has us at #3, and I'm pretty comfortable with that rank. His ranks go: Team W L SOS 25W 25L 1. UConn 23 0 15 6 0 2. Stanford 21 1 6 5 1 3. Nebraska 21 0 27 6 0 4. Tennessee 21 2 2 5 2 5. Notre Dame 21 1 30 3 1 25W & 25L are wins/losses vs. his top 25 teams. RealTimeRPI has our RPI fourth: 1. UConn - .7277 2. Stanford - .7227 3. Tennessee - .7076 4. Nebraska - .6955 5. Notre Dame - .6921 We're in pretty good company right now. We could be ranked higher, but I'm happy with #3. There's no shame in that ranking based on who we're ranked among.
  9. We haven't gotten to that stage yet, thankfully. We're still dealing with Noggin, which is a whole 'nother mess of stuff to annoy a person.
  10. My dad was a two-pack a day smoker. He really wanted to date my mom, and after working through every other excuse she could come up with, she finally told him she had two little kids at home and she wasn't going to date a guy who smokes. Dad took the pack out of his shirt pocket, crumpled it up, and never smoked again. They were married a year later. If you want it bad enough, you can do it. Don't give up, anyone who's trying to quit. It's the best thing you can do for yourself.
  11. Again, not saying you're wrong, and agreeing that Baker is really good, but remember that Moore was hurt all last year (turf toe) and that in Spring practice last year he was neck-and-neck with Crick for the spot along side Suh. This probably means nothing, other than the fact that we shouldn't write Moore off in this horse race.
  12. Probably not with Dr. Tom, but I talked to a LOT of fans last year who wanted Anderson's head. I never agreed with any of that, but people were really ticked that we lost so much last year. Coincidentally these were people who seemed uninterested in a discussion of the guys we lost to the draft, so take that for what you will.
  13. NEW YORK (Reuters) – Beer drinkers now have a good excuse to order another round -- the brew may help keep bones strong, a study has found. Researchers from the Department of Food Science & Technology at the University of California, have found beer is a rich source of silicon and may help prevent osteoporosis, as dietary silicon is a key ingredient for increasing bone mineral density. These were the findings after researchers tested 100 commercial beers for silicon content and categorized the data according to beer style and source. Previous research has suggested beer contained silicon but little was known about how silicon levels varied with the different types of beer and malting processes. "We have examined a wide range of beer styles for their silicon content and have also studied the impact of raw materials and the brewing process on the quantities of silicon that enter wort and beer," researcher Charles Bamforth said in a statement. The study, published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, found the beers' silicon content ranged from 6.4 milligrams per litre to 56.5 mg per litre. The average person's silicon intake each day is between 20 and 50 mgs. The researchers found there was little change in the silicon content of barley during the malting process as most of the silicon in barley is in the husk, which is not affected greatly during malting. They found pale ales showed the highest silicon content while non-alcoholic beers, light lagers and wheat beers had the least silicon. "Beers containing high levels of malted barley and hops are richest in silicon," said Bamforth. "Wheat contains less silicon than barley because it is the husk of the barley that is rich in this element." But Bamforth told reporters that the results shouldn't be taken too serious. The study examined the beers but it did not look at bone mineral density or analyse patients' data. "I would first consider flavor and whether you like it or not," he told science and technology magazine Discover. "Choose the beer you enjoy, for goodness sake."
  14. One of the cooler things about the Huskers is the Husker Prayer. Here's the text of the prayer: Our very own epocSoN used the prayer this year in the tunnel walk video before the Oklahoma game. Still gives me chills every time: epoc used the phrase "In the deed the glory" prominently in his video. Here's the text: Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory They were written by Hartley Burr Alexander and added to the stadium in 1923, on the southwest corner: Here's a great article about the origin of the words and what they mean to the Huskers. More to come soon.
  15. In my completely very unbiased opinion the best site out there for all things Husker is HuskerBoard. We have all the news that you need to know, about as fast as it's printed. Many times info leaks onto the boards before it ever hits the news. As for what you need to know to be a truly knowledgeable fan, that could take years. But this is a good challenge! Everyone can help create a primer for you, and anyone else, right here in this thread. I'll dig up some stuff you ought to know and post it here in a few...
  16. I'm now a follower. Or stalker. Take your pick.
  17. And here's where the problems arise with this rumor. Signing Day was 2/3/10. Here's a post from 1/26/10: See how the rumor changes? Still think this is likely to be true? People hear this rumor from multiple sources and assume it's true because "where there's smoke there's fire." That had to be posted like five times in the original thread, as if it's some truism we should all live our lives by. Reality is that there has never been a single credible source even hint at this. Carl was doing interviews during this whole time, he was coaching in the bowl game, he was out on the recruiting trail, and he got a huge raise - all while allegedly halfway out the door because Goody Two-Shoes Tom Osborne couldn't tolerate his philandering. The bottom line is that most of the basis of this rumor comes from this very board. People read it, talk, and tell their friends and neighbors, word gets around, and suddenly everyone's hearing it from everyone else so they presume it's true. Amen, PT. Amen.
  18. Agreed. I got burned by this guy who, apparently, isn't actually Tom Osborne. Fake Tom Osborne

  20. One of the pics from that site. Check out the circular wind pattern the twisters left:
  21. I would be shocked if Ankrah wasn't starting next year. He's real good. He may be, but so is Meredith. What I wonder about is, what about Ankrah AND Meredith starting? I love me some Pierre Allen, but last year he didn't have a stellar season. Maybe Suh gobbled up all the tackles, or maybe Allen's role was different than the Rush End I typically think of, but statistically neither Allen nor Turner were high-impact players last year. Both Turner and Allen started all 14 games last year. Both finished with 51 total tackles. Turner had five sacks, Allen had 5.5. Turner had 15 tackles for loss; Allen had 12. In limited duty Meredith had 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks and five tackles for loss. If you watched him he clearly seemed faster than Turner, and his numbers are respectable for a guy who didn't get a start. With another year under his belt, I can see him challenging Allen for the other starting spot, presuming Ankrah is good enough to earn one on his own. My best guess is it'll be Allen and Meredith starting with Ankrah getting many reps.
  22. Yeah, I'm not saying it's the best example, just the first one that came to mind. All I'm saying is ESPN blew both out of proportion. I agree that it's a different situation, but I don't fault LeBron either. It's not like missing one handshake makes either guy a "bad guy" like these stories imply. They're fine people, and I'd love to have Manning or LeBron on my respective teams any day.
