  1. I would be shocked if Ankrah wasn't starting next year. He's real good. He may be, but so is Meredith. What I wonder about is, what about Ankrah AND Meredith starting? I love me some Pierre Allen, but last year he didn't have a stellar season. Maybe Suh gobbled up all the tackles, or maybe Allen's role was different than the Rush End I typically think of, but statistically neither Allen nor Turner were high-impact players last year. Both Turner and Allen started all 14 games last year. Both finished with 51 total tackles. Turner had five sacks, Allen had 5.5. Turner had 15 tackles for loss; Allen had 12. In limited duty Meredith had 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks and five tackles for loss. If you watched him he clearly seemed faster than Turner, and his numbers are respectable for a guy who didn't get a start. With another year under his belt, I can see him challenging Allen for the other starting spot, presuming Ankrah is good enough to earn one on his own. My best guess is it'll be Allen and Meredith starting with Ankrah getting many reps.
  2. Yeah, I'm not saying it's the best example, just the first one that came to mind. All I'm saying is ESPN blew both out of proportion. I agree that it's a different situation, but I don't fault LeBron either. It's not like missing one handshake makes either guy a "bad guy" like these stories imply. They're fine people, and I'd love to have Manning or LeBron on my respective teams any day.
  3. Everything you're saying has been discussed in the thread about this rumor, and it's all been passed off as bunk. Whether Carl had an affair isn't anyone's business, and this notion that Tom is some do-gooder boy scout who can't tolerate a member of his staff having an affair is absolute nonsense. It goes against everything we know about Tom from his coaching days and the things his staff did/said. Those coaches under Osborne weren't all getting to bed at 9pm to get up for church every Sunday, don't you believe that for a second. It's a ridiculous stereotype people are putting on Osborne and it's not factual. You can throw up your hands and say "don't shoot the messenger," but the problem is you're perpetuating a myth. Don't want to get called out? Then don't pass off rumor as fact. Pretty simple equation.
  4. Nominate: Chef K (aka M-247gunner) I mean, the name alone should earn a nomination, right? amirite?
  5. I have to plead some ignorance on this topic... why would coaches share their secrets? I know it happens, but I just don't really understand it (?) Not necessarily secrets. Just sharing basic game planning methods, etc. You have to remember that college coaching is like a fraternity organization. They have conventions, seminars, etc. So a lot of information is being shared throughout. Yep, this is true. And coaches by and large aren't crazy secretive. They talk about their methods and their coaching ideas all the time in the press, on their weekly shows, etc. I'm sure there are some things they keep secret for that "edge" but for the most part they're pretty open with each other. There was a regular parade of coaches in and out of Boyd Epley's weight rooms all throughout the 80s when Husker Power came into vogue. Osborne had no qualms about sharing training info.
  6. I've heard this complaint levied against a couple of different players over the past couple of years. LeBron James may have been one of them recently - not sure. It's a bogus issue, just to drum up eyeballs on their newscast/blog/website/newspaper. I'm with you, GSG - let the winners enjoy their moment, and just gracefully get off the field.
  7. There was some kibbutzing between Saban and Bo prior to the MNC game this year. Scuttlebutt I've heard is that Bo and/or Carl and/or Watson are going to be visiting Alabama during the offseason to have Saban return the favor by sharing info on what he does and how/why it works. Somewhere buried in the middle of last season Bo talked about Alabama and being like them, so your wishes are probably going to be granted soon.
  8. I haven't heard a peep about him. I know he was listed at #2 behind Allen for the Holiday Bowl, but he didn't record any official stats. I can't find a participation list that includes his name, either, but I'm just about positive he played.
  9. That's an opinion, not a fact. It is also an opinion that force is inherent in authority. Further, force does not always lead to "bigger and worse problems than anything it might remedy." Force can sometimes lead to bigger and worse problems, but certainly not always.
  10. This could be taken care of if the NFL adds a week to its schedule. That would have put the Superbowl on 2/14/10, the day before President's day.
  11. I'm excited to see if they can incorporate some kind of play for Washington, too. Some form of Wildcat with him and Burkhead would be fantastic.
  12. These two quotes exemplify where I'm at. I don't really care who starts - Lee, Green, Spano, Kellogg, Martinez, Washington, Carnes, Aunt Ethel - as long as they're competent. Move the ball, be able to put up 17-20 points per game, and don't make crucial mistakes, and we're going to be really, really hard to beat this year. 17-20 pts per? If we're healthy & we have a competent QB, I'd say 24+ should be expected every game with the sched we have, and at least 17 vs the tougher defenses. That's why I said 17-24. Against weaker competition I expect blowouts, but against Texas, 17-20 should do.

  14. The disclosure about Lee's injury doesn't change that for you? No. Not at all actually. I don't care how healthy the guy's arm is...it's not going to make him feel pressure and make better decisions. That being said, I would love to be proven wrong. Meh. I know what you're talking about when you talk about Lee's decisions. He looked awkward/uncomfortable out there a lot this year. I just didn't see anything from Green that makes me think he's going to be better. If we can have a season's worth of Holiday Bowl Zac Lee, I'm giddy with excitement. Any more of the awkward/uncomfortable Zac Lee and I'm going to be ripping my hair out right next to you.
  15. I was in Fremont, 10 years old. I remember that night very clearly, as does my wife (she's from Lincoln). It's amazing to think how scary that must have been. I'm nearly 40 years old, I've lived in Nebraska my whole life, and I've never seen a tornado. Weird, huh?
  16. From what I understand the two-deep will be a competition between: Allen (almost certainly a starter) Cameron Meredith Jason Ankrah Josh Williams It's too hard to say how Ashburn, Vestal, Rome and Okuyemi will figure into the mix at this point, but with four quality rush ends in place, it's hard to imagine that most/all of these guys won't redshirt.
  17. The disclosure about Lee's injury doesn't change that for you?
  18. Moving to Recruiting in five minutes...
  19. Turf toe. Bothered him all year. Here's one article that mentions it.
  20. Again, let's not forget that Moore played a portion of last year injured. I'm not saying you guys are wrong, I'm just saying Stein isn't a lock for the spot.
  21. I have very high hopes for Cam Meredith. I was impressed with him in limited action this year. With full season under his belt, I expect a leap forward. Ankrah will keep Meredith honest if Meredith has any inclination to slack off. Anytime you have three guys vying for two spots, competition shouldn't be a problem. I expect whomever wins those starting RE spots to be fierce this year.
  22. Link? The thread discussing it never reached a conclusion, and I haven't seen anything about it on the major sites since then. Steinkuhler to remain on D Line Also in that article they discuss Cole Pensick heading from the DL to Center.
  23. I think Griffin barely scratches the surface of the teams he covers. I think his knowledge is generally less than that of a more-informed-than-average college football fan. How he got that gig is beyond me. If I got paid to cover college football, you can bet I'd have WAY more insight into the teams I cover than he provides. Be that as it may, I think Moore has as good a chance to start as anyone else. He was slowed by injury (turf toe) in 2009, remember. This time last year Moore and Crick were neck-and-neck for the spot aside Suh. When Suh was "injured" during the Oklahoma game, Moore went in for one play. The Sooners ran right at him... and he stonewalled the play. Moore seems like no slouch, but I think competition between Moore and Steinkuhler will be fierce. There are worse things than to have two guys in close competition for a starting spot.
  24. I thought the google ad was good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auLJ6w80XRg I liked the Letterman/Oprah/Leno commercial just because I didn't think they'd get together after all the rancor lately: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcEx767TIas
