  1. According to Rivals (other selectors will have different results) here are the rankings for the last 6 years for NU and Mizzu Starting with the most recent class (2009) and going back to 2004's class) MU - 40.30,33,47,39,29 NU - 28-25-13-20- 5-27 Chase Daniel was in the 05 class which was ranked # 39, compared to NU's 5. Callahan got Harrison Beck. Maclin was in the 06 class ranked 47 to NU's 20 He was recruited by Cosgrove for NU, don't know if he ever had any real interest in Nebraska, doesn't look like OU even offered him. Rivals Years ago, there were no rankings. You would probably hear who the recruits were on signing day. You can't even find lists for most years prior to 1972. Going just by memory (which might be wrong at my age) one of Osborne's highest ranked classes was the one with Steve Taylor and Broderick Thomas. Think they were one of the top 2-3 in the country. But 10 of the 25 recruits never even lettered at NU. T.O. had some top 10 classes, most were probably in the top 25. I think 1992 with Frazier was ranked fairly decent.
  2. Does anyone know if photos of the other 3 corners of Memorial Stadium exist somewhere?? Here is the one I can find. Thanks
  3. I like the double stripes on the pants. Personally I kinda like the white pants on the road, I know a lot of people don't. There for awhile the red pants seemed to be a weird red, either that or my tv needed adjusting.
  4. If Rich Glover doesn't win this then you may as well just limit it to players that have played since about 1990 and forget the rest. Rich Glover
  5. Its a slow time of year until spring ball, so I thought this might be interesting. Most NU fans remember Tommie Frazier missed 8 regular season games due to blood clots, but then was able to return and play in the Orange Bowl. Maybe some aren't aware that NU applied for a medical hardship for Frazier that year. They found out just before the Orange Bowl game vs Miami that the NCAA turned it down, because he played in to many games. Now the what if - had he played in fewer games and received another year, I assume then that the decision would of had to be made on whether or not to play Frazier in the Orange Bowl and lose that extra year. If he had not played would the Husker have beaten the Canes?? If Tommie would have then been able to play in 1996 would Nebraska have lost the ASU game or the Big 12 Champ. Game vs Texas??
  6. If I remember correctly, there was a time when the shoe contract was paid to the head coach (or at least part of it) and T.O. had it split among his assistants, rather than keep it himself.
  7. The only reason Bob Brown won't win is because most voters are to young to remember him. There are only 2 players who have their numbers retired at NU. Bob Brown (2004)and Tom Novak He was very complimentary to Bob Devany and NU at his induction to NFL Hall of Fame. I think he was selected to more All Century Teams for NU than any other guard except maybe Shields. Unanimous All American and lineman of the year by the 1963 Washington D.C. Touchdown Club. Wanted to make an impression his first day of practice with Raiders, so he gave a goal post a shot with his forearm and broke it off. Here are a some bio links. 8. Well, I'll give my 2 cents worth. 1 - Steroids - This is like an old wives tale. The NCAA banned steroids in 1984, began testing at bowl games in 1986. Year round testing began in 1990 and NU also does its own testing. With all that testing if there was a big problem you would know about it. Nebraska was light years ahead of everyone else with weight training and developing players. They did it with hard work. There was a reason why NU took their own weights to bowl games - even the pro facilities they sometimes used did not have enough equipment. 2. - 85 Scholarship limit. That was in effect for the 94-95 NC teams. Didn't seem to hurt them that much. Should not hurt NU as much as some due to NUs strong walkon program. 3. - Big 12 Conference - Now there is the Big 12 Champ. Game. Other than that NU plays Texas or OU once a year, just like they played OU once a year before. Other teams have improved but Nebraska's problem was they declined with 3 coaches since T.O. left. Bo should have the Huskers back to the top soon, at least winning the North fairly regularly. Oh, and the old Big 8 - 6 of the 8 teams won/shared at least one conference title even Mizzu-(they have none in the Big12), and only 6 of the Big 12 teams have a conference championship. Colorado even had a NC in the old Big 8. Also Nebraska did not always dominate the Big 8. T.O. only had 2 shared titles in his first 8 seasons. He mentions Big 12 Champ games, But seems ignorant of the fact that the Huskers have been to 4 Big 12 Champ. games and won 2 of those. Oh and the grand total of those B12 CGs that Texas Tech, Kansas, Mizzou (teams he mentions) have won?? 0 nada none. In fact the only team that has won more B12 CGs than the Huskers is Oklahoma (6). NU and Texas are second with 2 each. The rest of the conference together has a total of 3. 4. Prop. 48 - That might hurt some, but there have been limits on that for a long time, and you still can have some. 5. Nebraska itself - Well, Lincoln Nebraska hasn't changed, so I don't see the problem there. If kids want to go to school for the night life and recreation, Nebraska will take the ones that want to play football and get an education and do ok. 6. TV - I think the number of bowl games and the amount of teams needed to fill those spots might have more of an impact than just being on TV. Nebraska has not changed location, distance for families to travel to see a home game has always been a problem.
  9. I voted other. Forrest Behm 1940 All American. (I know he was not unanimous). Behm Bio
  10. I voted other, reason being I think Bob Brown should be listed. He is one of only 2 Huskers to have his # permanently retired (other being Tom Novak). He was also a unanimous All-American in 1963 (according to his bio) He was named college football’s Lineman of the Year in 1963 by the Washington, D.C. Touchdown Club (maybe not a major award, but he was picked by them) Although I don't think what a player did as a pro should be the big reason he is selected for the All Time Husker team, here are some of his pro accomplishments. In his 10 professional seasons, Brown earned six trips to the Pro Bowl and was named first-team All-NFL seven times. He was named to the NFL's All-Decade team during the 1960s, and was named the NFL/NFC Offensive Lineman of the Year three times. Brown was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 2 overall pick in the first round of the 1964 NFL Draft Once broke a goalpost with his forearm. I know he probably won't be picked by many as most fans are to young to remember him. But he was picked on more NU All Century Teams than all the others except maybe Shields, and I think he should be remembered. Brown Bio
  11. DITTO, although if Mitchell had not left NU early............
  12. It would be interesting to see them add the years prior to 1936 in somehow. NU was pretty successful in those years. ND and Michigan should move up then. Hard to decide who to use as NC in those years though.
  13. Growing up the 3 programs I hated most were Alabama, Notre Dame and Ohio State. Hate might be to strong of a word now, but have also added the entire Big 10 (I prefer to call then the little eleven).
  14. Considering NU was one of the worst football programs in the country for a big chunk of years they used (1941-1961), the Huskers came out pretty well in the end.
  15. Michigan also claims the 1947 AP NC, even though Notre Dame was the official AP champ. that year. - The AP did a special unofficial vote after the bowl games that Michigan won, (back then the final AP poll was done before the bowl games). About the only place you will see Michigan listed as the AP champion that year is the Michigan media guide. Also here is a link showing why the Huskers were the more deserving team in 1997 1997 Nebraska - Michigan
  16. I believe Nebraska was still in the running for him until Urban Meyer was named coach at Florida. The ultimate what if had Callahan landed him. The five schools who are listed as getting visits from him on the Rivals and Scout site are Florida, USC, LSU, Michigan, and Bama. Last visit date was USC 12/2/05
  17. There are so many. But just one looking back, I have to say Bob Devaney. NU was one of the worst football programs in the country when he came. He immediately made NU a winner and turned it over to Osborne who continued. Without the Bobfather the last 47 years would not of happened, at least not in the same way.
  18. I moved this site. Its not done and will probably always be a work in progress. I also have to do some double checking on some stats for accuracy. Pages that might be of particular interest are Michigan/NU 1997, Penn State, NU 1994 and the walk-on page(s) I'm just a poor old farm boy from Nebraska so don't be to critical. There will be no message board as this is the best Husker message board there is. Nebraska Football
  19. uote] Dane Todd, I think it was. Many walk-ons received scholarships from Callahan. Dane Todd and TJ O'Leary are two examples that I can think of off the top of my head. Dane Todd was a 2002 scholarship recruit. On the field goal vs CU, I believe the snapper, T.J. O'Leary, holder Jake Wesch, and the kicker Alex Henery all came to NU as walk-ons.
  20. I think part of the problem, D Coordinators . decided to take the pitch away from the QB and see if he could do it on his own and stand the beating. If T.O. would have still been calling the plays I think he would have countered with more misdirection and play action passes. Thats just my opinion.
  21. I was thinking the same thing, but with an option QB you can really take a physical pounding. Don't think you will get as much in the spread
  22. With a good senior season he maybe has a shot at top 10. Here is a list of past DLine All Americans (last 40 some years) Some are 2 time selections and I think there were 4 Outland or Lombardi winners. Also many other All Conference picks. Wayne Meylan - Larry Jackobsen Rich Glover Willie Harper John Dutton Mike Fultz Bob Martin George Andrews Derrie Nelson Jimmy Williams Neil Smith Danny Noonan Jim Skow Kenny Walker Jared Tomich Grant Wistrom Jason Peter
  23. Yeah, I miss the option. I guess I'm getting old but this spread offense stuff seems like something kids or girls would run. I think it might be harder to run the option today, but if you had the right QB and the right guy calling the plays it would still work. Like any offense you need the right players and it might be hard to find the right QB to make it go. Players know they might have less of a chance to make the NFL if they are in an option offense in college. People seem to think NU ran the option all the time (NU rarely ran a true triple option) like the wishbone or something, which is nonsense. NU ran a power running game and the option about 25% of the time. For example Tommie Frazier had 18 TD passes his senior season, for comparison Kerri Collins with Penn St and their high powered offense the year before had 21. Also I think OU probably broke the record this year but 1983 NU with Turner Gill still shared the NCAA record for offensive TDs in a season, so its not low scoring. If you had Tom Osborne calling the plays in his version of the spread, and someone like Frazier, or Gill running the offense with the option, it would be devastating. (IMO)
  24. This is a bit of a strech but 1999 NU was named NC by a couple of systems, (bottom of page in link) Nebraska NCs
  25. Q. What does Chase Daniel have in common with every Mizzu QB from 1970-2008? A. None of them won a conference championship.
