  1. the bold is not true. Actually it is. MO has more TVs than NE. Ratings-wise, NU wins that battle.
  2. I would like to see the KU game continue since NU's been playing them for 100 years.
  3. I wouldn't be shocked to see Mizzou in the Big10 before expansion completes. Like it or not, the state does bring a good amount of TVs. Even though it doesn't look good at the moment, I'd give 'em even odds.
  4. I have a concern with recruiting. It may turn out to be unfounded, but I'll have to wait and see. My fear is that we're now in a cold-locked conference. I would think that, to some degree, that will be taken into consideration with recruits. If this is the extent of the expansion, then not a big deal, but if the Pac10, MWC/Big12, SEC all decide to expand, weather could be sticking point since the Big10 (or whatever its gonna be called) will basically be the only cold weather conference. AZ, CA, TX, FL, GA, Al, in November or WI, MN, MI, PA, IL, etc. Hmmm? I know which I'd prefer.
  5. I still think the 5th down was the worst call. How can nobody on the field know what down it was? The down marker should not be the final say. If I had been Mizzou coach I wouldve never let them get the 5th down snap off. I would've stood over the ball, whatever I had to do to get the correct call made.
  6. I'm not sure how true that Washington State statement is. I don't know who was in on defense, but Frazier threw a TD pass in the 4th quarter when it was 28-14. I doubt we had our 3rd string D in with our 1st O on the other side. Going off the top of my head, either NU first scored 1 TD or WAZZU scored 1 TD off of a long run (like 80 yrds). Eventually, the score was 28-7. After that the teams traded TDs, and NU had the ball at appx the WAZZU 5 yrd line with a minute to go, but chose not to score again. NU was never in danger of losing the game. It was just a matter of whether they were going to ONLY win by 2 scores or 3.
  7. AS far as the CCG, money is the issue. Outside of NU, and recently MU, nobody else in the North has visions of reaching the game on a consistent basis. Those schools, like the South teams, beleive the game will be more profitable at Jerry World. So these schools collectively make more money, and since their fans would be thrilled just to reach the CCG, they'll happily pay for the once-in-blue-moon experience.
  8. The proposed scenario is actually what I would hope would happen, but only with NU included instead of one of the other schools. In this scenario, without NU, I don't like the idea of being left in the cold with the other Big10 schools (unless we get sec offer like knapp predicts). Over the long haul, this would seriously impact recruiting. The Pac10 and expanded SEC would rule the gridiron, by far, compared to "us" cold weather schools.
  9. Why can't you have it both ways? Preseason rankings are largely irrelevant and based on popularity and guesswork rather than actual fact. They aren't worth the paper they're printed on, and we can all think of teams that were ranked highly in the preseason, only to fall ingloriously when actual play started. So that's a fair statement. Having said that, one can also look at the kind of team that is traditionally ranked in the top five and see that they have both an effective offense and defense, and usually pretty good special teams. The Huskers should be pretty solid on special teams and we can make an educated guess that we'll be pretty good on defense based on Bo's track record and the guys coming back, but we have largely the same offense we had last year and until they prove otherwise, there isn't much reason to expect them to be one of the top offenses in the nation - certainly not the kind of offense that warrants a #4 national ranking. While nobody in this thread said "preseason rankings mean nothing," it's not unfair and it's not untrue. You can have it both ways. I think this is clearly a poll thats trying to predict the end of season rankings. (NO way is Boise the best team in the country.) I could see NU ending up at #4, and unfortunately, based on their schedule, I could see Boise winning their second game of the season for the national title.
  10. What's PO'd me about many of the losses is that in about half of the games NU was the outright better team, and many of the other games, NU seemed to be the better team that day. The Crouch fumble at the goal-line in '98, Buckhalter fumble at the goal-line the next year (along with a couple of other silly NU fumbles), the Nunn fumble, and the ridiculous Jammal Charles 4th qrtr after NU led 21-7, are ones that come to mind as games NU should've won.
  11. I'll be interested to see who he predicts will be the 3 losses. I find the 11-1, 6-6 prediction swing interesting. I don't recall seeing any program near that type of swing between best and worst cases scenario. Is Pete trying to predict injuries? My guess is he is thinking UT, A&M, and atKSU(?). With the risk of sounding like one of those ESPN haters, I do believe Fiutak has a bias against the 'Skers. He's practically said that he thinks NU's success under Osborne was because NU was at the center of college football steroid abuse, and has stated that he doesn't have the regard for Osborne that many others have due to manily Lawrence Phillips, but also Christion Peter and a few others. I truly believe his hard-on for Mizzou is a direct correlation with his general disdain for NU. I really enjoy his, Zemek's, and the 3rd main one's (i forget his name) writing styles, but with Fiutak, I always add a grain of salt to his opinions about NU.
  12. What exactly is the difference here between the triple option and I-option? I remember Osborne running the triple option out of the I instead of the Bone. The I-Back, full-back, running-back, etc. running towards the line of scrimmage is pretty standard in any offense.
  13. We were a two-loss team heading into the Citrus bowl and had no chance at the MNC. It was a fluke of bowl tie-ins that we happened to play a team that ended up with a share of the title in 1990, but saying we played for the MNC that year is not true. Knapp, you would count '91 also? I'm going off memory, but I think even had we won, we weren't in a position to be ranked #1. Wasn't that the Mickey Joseph led Huskers?
  14. Part of it is probably the success the team has had. There's many that have nothing to do with Nebraska, but since they have no particular feeling for their local school they latch on to whomever they think is good, see on tive all of the time. Its why I believe I've seen so many Gator and USC "fans" over the past decade where I rarely saw them prior.
  15. Nebraska fans own Arizona. Arizonans for Nebraska, AZ4NE.com, is one of the largest alumni groups. ASU doesn't get near the amount of support that NU gets here. U of A has to contend with the Southern Arizonans for Nebraska. I actually think if the economy was better, NU wouldv'e had an even more dominant fan showing at the Holiday. Californians for Nebraska is another huge alumni association. Its tough for opposing teams' fans, even ones in their home state, to outdrawn NU in Arizona or California bowl games.
  16. Recruiting (free) - Huskerboard.com News site - Huskerextra.com Live - Huskers.com I no longer live in Nebraska so I don't know which radio channel is the home of the Huskers. (KFAB?) Anyone known if there's a Canadians for Nebraska that pays for the Husker radio feed to be aired there?
  17. Interesting thread topic. I remember when others used to question why they couldn't be like Nebraska.
  18. Old news. He made his decision but has not yet informed anyone of it. He will call the coaches of each team and let them know about his decision tonight. Thanks! Wasn't sure if this was actually news. Someone on another board made a comment that he had commited to OSU (not a reliable source), and then I saw the headline.
  19. Rivals has teaser headline saying Owa has made decision. Did he acutally announce? Anybody got the info?
  20. You're guessing that you won't be surprised if Owa goes to UCLA? just messin' with ya
  21. I can't agree with this. Just because they are talented and want to play football doesn't mean these kids should be openly harassed by the media and overzealous fans. Where would we draw the line? Facebook friending talented junior high players? I know it's a bit hypocritical because I do follow recruiting (mostly just on huskerboard) but I think the whole scene is more than a little unpleasant and creepy. Some kids welcome the attention . . . but the kids who don't still can't escape it. I don't think that is "ok." Its not really about agreeing with it, but understanding that it exists. Those trying to sell will almost always market as far as the lowest common denominator. Fixing this would require some type of law change.
  22. Okie, understand that P90X isn't really for beginners. I don't know your fitness level, just an FYI

  23. It's easier to compare them to Alabama than us. Both finished 14-0, but 'Bama played a far more difficult schedule and was given a shot at the title, while Boise running their shady course got the also-ran bowl. Then all of your analogy extension fits, and meshes nicely with my analogy. We're analogous! Oh, I would never be silly enough to argue Boise's case against Alabama. Even the majority of Boise fans (or players, if you saw the Fiesta trophy presentation) would not go that far. I wasn't trying to say Boise should have been a national title contender last year, just that they were (and have been for several years) a legitimate top ten program in college football, who deserves to be respected as such. Someone kind of mentioned this earlier. How many "top 10" programs seat 30K? That pinpoints the major difference. So NU is supposed to go play at a teeny-tiney stadium, give up a home date, and pay BSU 1M or whateever? They want to be perceived as big time (even though they're not) when it comes to scheduling, but they want to get paid like a FCS team. I"m surprised VTech took the bait.
  24. Ya, Kid. That's hysterical. Potentially getting yourself and a school in trouble. HAHA! You got me!
