I do not know what firing a guy mid-season will do... I was not overly confident in our assistant head coaches. Hindsight is 20/20- with our situation, it worked about as well as one could hope for. .. I will rehash for a moment- I am listening to the TN podcast from the Frost mega-thread right now... we are pretty lucky that situation down there makes Peterson stuff look sane. The villagers have pitchforks and it is not pretty. Emotionally, hell yes, lets not let him get on the bus from the Oregon game. But firing CMR would have been a bad mistake. I think it is ok to float the idea a coach will not be back, and the momentum will catch the "rumor" pretty quick. CMR deserved the treatment he received. It is pretty rare that an outgoing coach would have the opportunity to conduct a press conference right after their firing and proceeding the AD who let him go.. Speaks volumes of the people involved in the process and something we can be proud of -- in the end, how important is the sport of football?

He works the room well- says he likes Runzas, they are growing on him... he made a comment about SEC, and the press moaned- he followed it by saying he has said worse.. reporters asking about names and he is ddiscussing his relationship to them... Moos said he has third party people discussing with coaches agents... he most likely will not meet face to face - as the industry most coaches work thru agents.... he talked about his Philly visit- him and his wife were looking at a condo. That is why they traveled separate... he is being coy about whether he visit with Scott Frost when he played up there 2 weeks... he is now telling the media corp that he is going under radar-- he will talk when new coach is available... He offered to Coach Riley the opportunity to talk to media.. he is coming in now

I am confident that This will be a nerve-racking week indeed for many Husker fans. Hold tight and keep your powder dry. UNL is a public University and will have to interview several candidates to check-off some boxes. Then, After the ACC title game, we will officially announce a new coach. Bowl game, smowl game...It is important, but not as important as the early recruiting period and hitting the ground running. Besides, UCF will have a hard time playing any BCS/Bowl game outside its home state. They do not travel well, as was shown the last time they played in Tempe a few years ago- they had less than 1,000 fans in the stands.

10 years ago- I could have been sold CMLeach... There is no denying a certain gravitas he brings to anyone's table. I would fear his offensive success here in the B1G. That is my most important concern.... at the moment we are a fractured fan base, and this next hire is direly important for UNL. Ok.... That may tie into why he was not outright canned 4-5 weeks ago. CMR may need to stay on for the family benefits as well.

Man, this thread is getting pretty lengthy... discussing local favorite food places and current movies. I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of CMR staying on after his retirement this weekend. Small rumor going around, from a large donor friend, that he will be working with athletic department after his retirement from coaching the team, and transitioning with CSF. I certainly hope so. I have stated before, Coach Riley is a great ambassador for UNL.

The Sweater Vest would have been a major coup. Like the X-Files, Molder, I wanted to believe and even with his warts, he would have ben a heck of a date vs HCMR. Dang, I had a feeling this game would play out like this. If this is the best effort we can give, it will be another long season for us. I missed the game- spent the evening coaching kids and then going to Justice League.... We need to kick it in the rear or Miles needs to go. I am hearing magic number is 19 wins.... we will see

I like that he is saving the environment with an electric car and bikes/walks to work. I use a lot of his carbon offsets with my two suvs- so it all evens outs for Mother Earth

My quick observation after watching Tuesday night's scrimmage...1) I am concerned, again, that offensive rebounds might be a tall order. It seems, again, we have 4 guys on the perimeter- waiting to shoot the 3, and only one guy rebounding. 2) We, again, may finish in the bottom 5% (in nation) for defending the 3 and ...3) Coaching deficiency may bite us in the bottom ... I do like the (physical) look of this team. We seem bigger, stronger, than last year. I just hope Coach Miles can manage all the personalities and develop a winner this year. My initial guess, we can finish 9-10 in league play, vs 12-13 out of the 14. Honestly, this should be the year we play Creighton much closer on the road.

Our buy-outs etc...payroll is looking larger then the NY Yankees for its active & nonactive roster... I am hearing $30 M for 7 years floating around on campus... Coach Frost has until Dec 3 to decide. But who the heck knows.... Christmas can not get here fast enough.

Yep... totally agree with the statements from Moos.... I just found it odd and thought I would share an observation, not any whisper campaign going on inside the building...that is why we have it here... We look so uninpsired just running onto the field..maybe team is feeding off that low energy and a change happens sooner then after Iowa game?

FWIW-- I was at Champions Club after the game... people were pissed.. but more than two very important guests (his bosses) were not there to greet the people, as they normally are, left their wives to sit alone ... maybe, they are talking with coach right now to pack his bags...rip off the band aid now..

Yep... hearing same things...Coach Riley will retire (needs to attend to things at home) and things will work out well for both sides...cool it a bit and be patient
