  1. Actually I thought that is against the rules, something about artificial noise being made.
  2. What they are paying for is their education. It is well known that this football program supports itself, and other sports programs that don't support themselves. As far as "needing" the students to buy tickets and attend the games, this is one program that probably could get by without selling a single ticket to a student and still sell out. If a student is going to buy his ticket, I think that what everyone is getting at is that he should at least either attend the game, or sell/give it to someone that will attend the game, therefore supporting HIS university. While on a basic level of dollars and cents you are 100% correct, Michael's point reaches beyond just who funds the program. Quite simply without the need to educate the students in NE, a football team would not exist. The students are the reason UNL exists and hence the football team. If the football team is a form of university representation to others outside the local supporters, you would think that the students would take an active roll in supporting them. Say it ain't so...!!!! I deserved that, but I figured since you made the leap to imply the football team didn't need the students I would go back to the basic level to dispute that.
  3. It's odd that Matt Donahue isn't listed on the roster. Maybe because he is a transfer but I thought Jim Ebke transfered in the same period and he's listed. I also thought Paul was a Jr. this year, did he somehow get back a year of eligibility?

  5. I completely agree. Bo obviously made a concerted effort to create long term depth by redshirting alot of the incoming talent. Compton, Henry, etc. If the talk out of practice is to be believed, it appears many of the these players are outperforming the starters, on D anyway. The D-Fense should be much improved next year with these players contributing. Next year's team will have much fewer walkons contributing in major roles; I am a big fan of WO's like anyone else, but there is a difference between someone like O'Hanlon and the Safeties at other schools.
  6. No matter how strong the ties are to NU, there is no way he would accept what amounts to a demotion to be Asst. HC. Especially since he is doing such a good job in Buffalo that his name comes up for almost every high profile College HC job that comes open. He will get plenty of chances this year and next, question is when he feels right about moving on. I could be wrong, but I don't recall hearing his name mentioned for ANY high profile job except Nebraska. I haven't heard of him directly in the running, but every time the media talks about vacancies his name keeps coming up. Recently saw something on ESPN that listed coaches most likely to get a big time job and his name was number one by most analysts. Take that for what it is, not much, but I have to think he is on most schools' radars. I will be interested to see what opportunities, if any, come up between now and next year.
  7. yeah just read the same thing So what exactly is not as serious? Is it a benign as a lot of fluid on the knee, that often feels like an ACL? Did he tear something as everyone previously indicated?

  9. Well, i have been saying it all year, and saying Mizzou would win this year, whihc sadly looks to be right. We played a lot of young guys in Lincoln, they will get better, and other than losing some interior lineman and a few good LBs, we are mostly back. Our may opponents are a Maclin (proabbly) and Daniel free Mizzou and you all. I think we are good enough to beat you in Lawrence next year, but it should be a good game. We will see, we have a little strak against you in Lawrence, as you may know. Is Reesing a senior this year? If so what does KU have behind him?
  10. That is what I was thinking, pretty fast in traffic though.
  11. This area should improve greatly next year, there are indications that the true freshman like PJ, Osborne, Fisher, Compton, etc. are looking better in practice than the starters.
  12. ditto It took me a bit to figure out what they were talking about also....Pretty good stuff Cy!
  13. JFYI, the Citadel is Army. The Naval Academy is both Marine Corps and Navy. Actually the Citadel is not officially affiliated, it is a ROTC school just like VMI and the Corps down at aTm. West Point is the Army's Academy.
  14. According to their web site, you go to channel 102 and order it from there as much as 2 weeks in advance.
  15. We do. His name is John Papuchis. John Papuchis joined the Nebraska coaching staff after spending the past four seasons on the football staff at LSU. Papuchis will serve as the Huskers’ defensive ends coach and will also play a leading role with the Huskers' special teams. If this is the case and he is in charge of the kickers and coverage teams then what are they doing different from last year that has led them to take steps backwards? Like I said the punting looked good against OU so maybe they have the kicking problems shored up and now they will get the coverage on taken care of. Also if he plays a “leading role” why doesn’t he get to carry the title? Would that mean he would have to get paid more? First year under Pelini: Fielding punts, one return for a TD First year under the-coach-who-shall-not-be-named: Call for a fair catch and run away from it like a little school girl. I said and you even highlighted it, kickers and coverage teams. I believe I said the 2 kick returns were a good thing. There was an article about this online at the LJS site, I will look for it. In a nutshell John P. is the overall one in charge of Special Teams, but each portion of the Special Teams has one of the coaches directly in charge of that aspect. They also spend a significant portion of every practice on special teams. They have gotten better in other areas as everyone mentioned, I guess I am a bit puzzled as well on the coverage portion.
  16. Like Texas Tech, amirite? Just curious if NU won or lost that game. Thanks. Feel free to expound if the loss was directly attributed to a stupid mistake also. Feel free to actaully argue any of the points I made too. Well, you asked: And I pointed out that this was not true. Do you disagree? I don't buy the talent gap thing. We can play extremely talented teams to the wire if we want to. It's a gap in mental fortitude. This will come with time - we hope - , but all anyone wants to do is say "coach should have called this play" or "coach should have started this player." I do disagree. It is true. When this squad plays a ranked team it absolutely turns into sugar in a rainstorm. I'm thrilled everyone thinks that TTech was a great breakthrough. I don't and neither does the coach if his comments after that game are any yardstick. The playcalling is directly attributed to the talent gap. There is only one real option on any of the pass plays called, and Ganz is going to put it there come hell or high water. Evidently, it is now impossible to run the ball unless its a stretch, toss or to Slauson's side. And, the look in every single one of those player's eyes looked like they wanted to go to bed in thier cozy Lincoln apt. and hope to play NMSU and Baylor every week so everyone can tell them how special they are again. Its really time for this football team to nut up. Well actually if you listened to Bo in this game's post game interview he actually pointed to the TT loss as an example of what NU can do if it doesn't make the mistakes it made Saturday night. I would say that while Bo did state after the TT game that he isn't interested in moral victories, he obviously feels that game was a step forward. As far as the pass options, it sounds like you haven't watched a game all year until now. Part of what has made Ganz good is his ability to move around and stretch plays out. If he was just going to his first option no matter what, we wouldn't see him stretching the plays all of the time to help get a receiver open.
  17. I hope this thread isn't indicative of what the actual voter turn out will be. 23 votes?!?!?
  18. You mean that Washington is still a D1 school? I thought they were the obligatory Bowl Subdivision Opponent.
  19. I would say he has already earned the right to play for NU since the coaching staff offered him a scholly. I agree with Big Willie, I think he is a competitor.
  20. Cy you should get the look alike thread, now open!, started with this one!
  21. Yeah and the guy who did that got fired as did the coach.
  22. Granted...BUT...one of the major issue we have on "D"...IMO...is lack of depth.... I agree with you man. The fact that we have to play some of the guys we do is just sad. IMO That and if you are looking at starting the "transition up," building QUALITY depth is a big step. True those players may not all make the field next year, but the majority of them will be on the 2-deep meaning they will be pressing the starters hard. I would also bet that many of them will see a lot of time on the field next year even if they aren't a starter, so they will have an impact next year. To top it all off, these players will/may be the starters for Bo's 3rd year and hopefully allow the team to blossom. I don't think anyone can look at this team and say that this wouldn't be a multiple year project to get to an elight level. I also forgot to add Baker to the list of "impact" recruits. I think the overall talent over the next couple of years already looks twice as good as what Bo started with. You can't win with 5-6 walk ons starting.

  24. Talent isn't just about being fast and agile, I think intellegence is just as important. In this case I have to go back to Bo's body of work the 5 previous years before this one and see that the job he did was not a fluke. This coaching staff was all involved in those successes in some part. I concur 100% on the penalties. I thought the team got better in this area after Bo instituted the running sprints plan, but this team has regressed again. I would say that it is an improvement since the record was 5-7 last year. Since when is an improvement in the record not a sign of getting better. Isn't that what this is all about? The extra practices will also definately help. I also think it helps recruiting, I don't care that there are a lot of bowl games out there. In my mind it almost makes it a must do to achieve a bowl berth because if you don't recruits know how bad your team must be. Well KU is only a 3 point favorite, their W/L record is only one game better than NU, and I think the team will rebound well (see TT on the road). KSU has been equally inconsistent and very bad at times, as has NU, but their record is worse so I have to go with NU on this one. CU appears to be regressing the past 2-3 weeks with no sign of improvement. NU is 2-1 in that same period, I would definately take NU. There is no one else to play is my guess. The roster isn't that deep. All of the top 7-8 DB's have played significant time this year. I am not sure who else you want them to play? I watched all of his press conferences this year and I frankly don't have an issue with how he handles the media. He gets surley at times, but I don't see him berating the media. He gives honest answers. As far as yelling at the refs, other than TO almost every college game I watch, and frankly I watch a lot of CFB, the coaches are yelling at the refs. If this team takes a nose dive and goes 0-3 down the stretch, then I will really start to question what is going on with this staff. I honestly don't know how loyal Bo will be. One of his strengths thus far appears to be evaluating where the team is at. If he can't make the change that is needed, then Bo will have to answer for it same as Callahan. It appears from the telecasts that he is into the game when on offense as well, however without some insider talking about the atmosphere during a game this is an impossible, and therefore unfair to ask, question to answer. Bo gets the same shot Callahan did. I would say yes at that point, with only salvation coming in year 4. I don't think this will be a problem though. Wow on this one. I guess you aren't that high on Compton or Fisher then? How about Dennard? How about Williams coming in this year's class? While they haven't closed on them yet, conventional knowledge right now is that they have a GREAT shot at some really good D-lineman, such at Heimuli, and Defensive Backs, such as Logan. I don't think so. So VT being a 5-3 team and MU being 7-2 aren't good teams? Pretty sure both are going to be in bowls. Losing to bowl teams, while it sucks, looking at where NU was last year can't be a horrible thing. I think he would have to get an invite to a camp and really open some eyes. Small chance, but I think he will get looks. Not sure who you are referring to, but I personally wanted to throw up after that one. I was impressed by what the team did the following 3 weeks, looking for the same this time. I was looking the same way in the first 5 minutes of the game on Saturday. I am not sure anyone could see that series of events coming. In NY none.
