Will There Be a 2020 Football Season?
southernoregonhusker replied to BIG ERN's topic in Husker Football
Not wearing a mask in a business is a Class C misdemeanor in Oregon. It's punishable by up to 15 days in jail and $1,250 in fines. Sadly, no police chiefs or sheriffs are enforcing it and are having officers educate the public. I went to the grocery store two days ago saw roughly 30% of people weren't wearing masks at all and a handful wearing them with their noses exposed. Of those not wearing masks, most were college aged people. Young people around here aren't worried about it. -
I'm not sure that's a 45 pound olympic bar. Looks short.

When it comes to the big lifts (bench, deadlift and squats), the Smith Machine is worthless in my opinion. When you do those lifts the "real" way, the bar doesn't move in a straight line like it does on a Smith Machine. And I stated in the other post, those lifts are all compound lifts meaning there are more than one muscle group being engaged and the Smith Machine certainly takes away from that. I can do a half assed squat with the Smith Machine, but I also have to lean back a little because the machine is also angled. Obviously putting yourself in an angled position isn't the safest. The Smith Machine, however, is "safer." You're not going to drop anything onto yourself as there are safety hooks or latches or whatever word you'd like to use to describe them. I really do like Hammer Strength equipment. I do very well with their incline bench and standard bench machines and I'm able to push myself really hard knowing I won't drop the weight onto my chest. Their row machines are terrific too. So I'm not anti-machine at all, but not a fan of Smith Machines.

Building on the last post...there are secondary muscles that aren't engaged when using a machine versus non-machines.

Will There Be a 2020 Football Season?

On the flip side, our local American Legion team cancelled the rest of their season last week. We had a Fourth of July tournament that included a team from a small town in the Portland area. One of their players felt ill and the team dropped out and went home. They then were tested and eight of their players were positive. Another team at the tournament cancelled their season after the second day of the tournament when it was discovered two players from the feeder team tested positive. No word on our team as Covid related illnesses have been very secretive in our county. -

I have a few friends who have made it a political issue. They've told me Dr. Fauci is a liberal and they won't listen to him. None of them went to college and they work in the timber industry. I'm not judging, but I know how the timber workers around here think. -
Let's bring Oregon into the B1G because I was really looking forward to the Oregon/Ohio State matchup.

Many have already decided on bars, churches malls, beaches, etc and people went out and blew it. Now many have had to shut down again. We had a church here in Oregon with well over 300 cases. They weren't even supposed to meet, but they defied the governor's orders. I don't recall which federal doctor it was, but he said if we'd wear masks and social distance for six weeks, we'd drive this into the ground. I believe that. I wish I could have happened months ago before things got out of hand.
-
It's not leadership. It's timing. Right now we can't do it, but if people would pull their heads out of their butts and were responsible with masking wearing and social distancing, things would change quickly. But we have those who aren't mature enough to do it and that's why we are surging again. Also, we're talking about college football here. A kids game played by young men who aren't even paid. Some perspective would be good here.

From those I've spoken to, it's basically "I don't wanna." -

It's funding related per the article I read. No football money means a cut to non-revenue sports. -

Stanford just cut eleven sports. The Ivy League has said no to all fall sports. I think the writing is on the wall. No football next month. -
Nebraska was 9-4 in 2016.

MLB isn't. MLS is in Orlando along with the NBA. Lots of games with no fans to see. -

That's the same story. I didn't know others came in and shook hands as well. OSP's Superintendent is livid. What an embarrassment from the supposed top law enforcement agency in the state. -

It's inconvenient. It's against my civil rights. It's what limp wristed commies do. Yesterday, our governor here in Oregon made it mandatory to wear masks indoors in public places. A state trooper walked into a coffee shop without a mask. He was told put one on and his reply was, "F--- Kate Brown (our governor)" It's against the law to force people to wear a mask." This came from a state cop. Of course it's not against the law per our state's supreme court, but that's the attitude many have. In this case, one who should know better. -

I had a woman tonight tell me it has been proven that masks are ineffective against Covid. I'm sick of hearing this type of crap from people. -

Negative. We can count in the Pac 12. You're right about everything else. I just watched a doctor in Arizona state they are completely overwhelmed and don't have enough resources to cope anytime soon. -

Why does he look less legit when Martinez was the starter last season despite lacking drive according to his coach? -

It's true. I'm not sure what they are thinking in Lincoln County, but they excluded some from wearing masks due to race. They've now reversed it, but it did happen. -

There are those who still cling to the amateurism angle when discussing the payment of players. -
Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

You're not wrong about vaccines. They have taken longer in the past than 12 months to develop, test, etc. Dr. Fauci stated 18 months would be a record for a vaccine. -

Say goodbye to any amateurism arguments if football is played without students on campus. Also, I think Klatt is nuts. Kids are much safer at home than on campus.
