  1. Standout Iowa receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos managed to flash a smile during his initial court appearance Wednesday on drug charges that have shocked Hawkeye fans and left his future in doubt. Johnson-Koulianos, Iowa's all-time leading receiver and a fan favorite nicknamed "DJK," is accused of keeping a drug house at his home several blocks from campus. He's also charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana, and police said he tested positive for both. Decked out in big glasses and sports jacket over a turtleneck, Johnson-Koulianos smiled for photographers as he entered the Johnson County courtroom. He stood with his hands behind his back as Judge Stephen Gerard read the seven charges against him and the potential jail time - up to 7 1/2 years - and fines he faces. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing and an arraignment date was not immediately scheduled. He walked out of the courthouse without commenting and left in a car driven by defense attorney John Beasley, who also declined comment. The 23-year-old receiver and his roommate, 21-year-old Brady Cooper Johnson, were charged on Tuesday after police officers raided their Iowa City home. Johnson-Koulianos was released from jail on Tuesday evening after posting $8,000 bond. Johnson made his initial appearance by video from the jail, where he was later released after posting $14,500 bond. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz suspended Johnson-Koulianos from team activities immediately on Tuesday after learning of his arrest, which came as Iowa begins to prepare to play Missouri in the Insight Bowl on Dec. 28. Johnson-Koulianos, a senior from Campbell, Ohio, received first-team all-Big Ten honors from the conference's coaches last month. He finished the regular season with 46 receptions for 745 yards and 10 touchdowns, becoming Iowa's career leader in receptions and receiving yards in the process. He was the first player ever to lead the Hawkeyes in receiving his first three seasons. Police say they found marijuana, more than $3,000 in cash, a digital scale and other items used to sell drugs throughout the residence. The player's roommate, Johnson, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and several other charges. The criminal complaint against Johnson-Koulianos does not accuse him of dealing drugs. Instead, it says officers located cocaine residue, "small quantities of marijuana" in his bedroom, and a variety of legal painkillers and other pills for which he did not have prescriptions. The complaint says Johnson-Koulianos agreed to take a urine test and tested positive for cocaine and marijuana. He allegedly told officers he had used drugs, "he knew drugs were being used and likely sold out of the residence," and they obtained "electronic media" showing him possessing cocaine. Johnson-Koulianos is charged with keeping a drug house in addition to possession of cocaine, marijuana and prescription drugs.
  2. This from the Lincoln star: Nebraska head football coach Bo Pelini declined to discuss in any detail a report that he's received permission from NU to speak with Miami about the school's head coaching vacancy. Citing an anonymous source, the Miami Herald reported Wednesday night that Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt plans to speak with Pelini. "I don't address rumor and innuendo," said Pelini, adding that he plans to be on the road recruiting for Nebraska on Thursday. Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne was surprised Wednesday night upon hearing about the Herald's report. "Bo's never talked to me about anything like that," Osborne said. "If he got permission (to talk to Miami), he didn't get it from me." Pelini said he didn't seek such permission from anyone. Among the coaches who reportedly have spoken to Miami about the job are Mississippi State's Dan Mullen, Connecticut's Randy Edsall and Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville. Pelini has a relationship with Hocutt that dates to 2004, when Hocutt was an associate athletic director at Oklahoma and Pelini was the Sooners' co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. In addition, Hocutt played linebacker at Kansas State when Carl Pelini was a graduate assistant at the school in the early 1990s. Pelini's NU teams have gone 9-4, 10-4 and 10-3. He's regarded as one of the nation's brightest defensive minds. Nebraska is set to play Washington in the Dec. 30 Holiday Bowl.
  3. Lets get this cloning thing going QUICK. What an asset he has been for our state and School
  4. F.A.T.M.O.M.S. That is awesome, where do I sign up.
  5. Huskers will be ready I am sure. GBR GBR GBR
  6. Lets not start thinking that there is a conspiracy in the big 10 it is NOT. Give us a tough schedule every year. I hate the cupcake games anyway. If you constantly play the best the conference has you can only assume you will be better for it. No excuses, give no quarter. Just play hard and fair and good things will happen in our new conference. GBR GBR GBR
  7. Mr Bebee, We must kindly ask you to refrain from getting too personal with the kid goats at our family friendly petting zoo. You are close to being engaged with your actions and the goats do not like the velcro gloves. Thank you Petting zoo Staff
  8. We are here because it is cold in Nebraska
  9. Thankful that you posted that, sometimes we overlook the small things in life that make our life better.
  10. Some win some lose, others are just destined to be wannabe's.
  11. That my friend was an awesome post at a perfect time. Thanks for posting and stick around for all the fun banter thrown around here all year. GBR GBR GBR
  12. This was a team loss PERIOD. The offense missed chances to put this game away, we failed to recover muffed punts deep in their territory, and the defense gave up a lot of yards when we had them pinned back. We fumbled away our chances and we were out coached on both sides of the ball at times. Truth be told. OU did what they had to do to win and we did not.
  13. I was hoping for a match up with a big 10 team. Oh well, we will dismantel the huskies again and then for a 3rd straight time next fall.
  14. I would never say I wont watch the Huskers to prove a point even when this is the biggest I have ever seen. This is where the Husker faithful need to fill the stadium and show the insight bowl that they lost a lot of money for their host city by choosing the way they did. I feel the Huskers will prepare well for this game and we will see a score comparable to last years game agains Az. The kids deserved better but this is what we have. GBR GBR GBR
  15. Love his attitude and spirit. He is Husker Football. Thanks for your efforts Rex
  16. No regrets leaving the conference. Some of the teams left behind will be missed but as a conference I say SEE YA
  17. Did not pull any punches there and I cant really argue with him.
  18. What were we 14 points from being undefeated. Yes we had some hurtful losses. All of them hurt. But as long as TM learns from his growing pains we will get better when we dont change qb'S EVERY YEAR. There are 10 other teams that wish they could have been playing tonight. Not much of a comfort but at least we were in this too the end. GBR GBR GBR
  19. I am heading to the hooch and get some rest as the game comes on at 0530 in the morning here. I will be rooting for the Huskers in my sleep and watch it in my room in the morning until time to go to work. Here is to a great game and a great Husker win. GBR GBR GBR
