  1. I'm saying he exercised his right of free speech, somebody else is exercising theirs. Don't kick a hornet's nest if you don't like being stung, if indeed he did receive any texts as he described. Or....kick the hornet's nest to reveal the ugly racists and part-time patriots who think of themselves as a hornet's nest. MRI shouldn't be surprised but he can still be appalled. Most decent people are. Nice to see them weigh in. If you are actually doubting whether he received the texts as described, you haven't spent much time on social media. Check out the Twitter and Comments Section greetings Leslie Jones received when she was announced as a cast member of the Ghostbusters remake. Guess she was asking for it.
  2. The problem of black on black violence hardly negates the issue. It's a different side of the same coin. Inner city black kids believe their lives have less value because there's sh#tloads of evidence everywhere they look. It's the same recruiting technique used by gang leaders and drug lords in every culture throughout history. A lot of young black kids don't believe Black LIves Matter and it's simply not true that Barack Obama and black leadership sweep that galling fact under the rug. If you think the unwarranted police shootings of blacks are somehow mitigated by the fact that blacks are killing each other, think about it again, a little harder. That's kinda messed-up.
  3. But if you have a nice black neighbor who thinks BLM has gone too far, perhaps systemic racism isn't a problem after all. Or maybe he's not telling you everything he thinks.
  4. Would you want to be treated the same as the average black person in this country? They've done that study. No white person would trade their privilege.
  5. Some coaches welcome the release from the pressure cooker. Others can't live without it. Money usually isn't the issue.
  6. If it's your job to guess the winning team 50 times in public every Saturday, you've signed up to piss off thousands of people. Are Nebraska fans more vocal and more thin-skinned than other fanbases? I honestly don't know. But it does seem like some fanbases take it out on individual sports pundits, while Husker fans are wary of the entire national press corps.
  7. In fairness to DiNardo, you can still look at Nebraska and see a defense vulnerable to the better offensive teams on the schedule, and an offense that always has been dynamic if it can stop shooting itself in the foot. Two goal line fumbles and a narrowly avoided Pick Six on Saturday still makes the Huskers a work-in-progress. Definitely better, but not shut your mouth better. Yet.
  8. I have a hard time figuring out what to make of your post. The first half is much needed insight and perspective. The second half seems out of touch and tone deaf. Here's the thing: Practically all forms of protest are "divisive" and/or "disrespectful". I keep hearing that all these things are divisive and we should be doing things to bring people together... OK well I'm all ears. This sh#t has been going on for a verrrry long time, and not being provocative doesn't really seem to accomplish anything. The fact that there are people who get more outraged at someone kneeling during the national anthem then they do when people are needlessly killed is pretty f'ing sad. (Not saying this applies to you, just in general) You can make whatever you want (or don't want). The first half of my post was meant to describe and explain the fact that my opinion on this matter is not reached because I have lived some life of privilege. The truth is exactly the opposite. I would like to respectfully disagree with your reply. Protests can be done in many ways that are not divisive and not intended to be disrespectful. The people who are taking part in these protests are not helping anything. They are not promoting a productive discussion. This thread is a microcosm of what is happening in the national debate. People are insulting each other back-and-forth, there is no common ground being reached, no insight is achieved, no progress is made; the point they are trying to make is lost in their actions. To say that police abused of power is wrong, is an understatement. But those protests are not getting people to talk about police abuse. They are talking about the fact that these protesters are doing something to offend people who in many cases agree with their point. As I said, it's divisive and it really accomplishes nothing. Well said California Husker. I agree that the current approach to protesting is creating more divisiveness rather than helping to spotlight whatever cause that is being supported. Again, isn't it a bit weird that African-Americans are getting shot in front of their children with their hands up, and they have to worry about offending white people with their silent protests? And again, you have a working model of the 20th century civil rights movement with all the proof you need that successful protests don't go the way the privileged would prefer. Since you've written many posts suggesting you don't believe the cause is even valid, don't pretend you're merely arguing over the position of the spotlight.
  9. Still resorting to personal attacks I see...I guess nothing has changed. Since it's been referenced many times before, for those that consider themselves center right or conservative, this is what you experience in the P&R forum when making a point. I called you a sweet candied fruit, the color of our favorite team.
  10. I recently saw 90,000 people in a stadium chanting "Go Big Red!" Who knew communism had gained such a foothold in America?
  11. I think Dzuris is getting his respect. And maybe a little more for his epic moustache.
  12. Just keep in mind that the rhetoric used to discredit black protestors today is almost identical to the rhetoric white people leveled against the civil rights movement 50 years ago: the negroes have brought this upon themselves. They need to be patient, show more respect, don't talk back to police, etc. History didn't look kindly at the first round of soft core racism. It's not going to be any prettier this time. And laying the new racial divide at Obama's feet? Oh Bnilhome, you are the cherry on a sh#t sundae.
  13. Have you been arrested? Is anyone saying you should be fired from your job? Have I been arrested? No because I know the difference between right and wrong and I comply with the laws. I have been pulled over and was issued a couple speeding tickets and I'm still alive. Is it due to me being white? Nope could be the fact that I gave the officer respect, allowed him complete visibility of my hands and never gave the officer a reason to deem me a threat to him or her safety. Nobody is saying that I should be fired from my job but I do officiate football and have received a few comments from fans on some calls that they deemed were wrong and didn't agree with. Even told me to hang it up Talk to a black person sometime. Seriously. A professional well-groomed black person who complies with the law. Their stories are absolutely chilling. I'd heard the stories before. Thought we'd moved beyond them in 2016. Sure wanted to believe it because hey...black President! But cell phone cameras kinda threw it back in my face. And why don't well-groomed law-abiding black people tell white people about the humiliating disrespect they encounter on a regular basis? Cause it's a conversation know one wants to have, typically greeted by white disbelief, denial and angry backlash that can make things even worse. Little creepy that white folks are making this about their discomfort. Far, far too many Black Americans also "know the difference between right and wrong and comply with the laws" yet are still arrested, still shot, still killed. It's this tone-deaf response that people in this thread are on about. The implication in this response is that Black Americans who have been arrested, shot, killed by the police did not know the difference between right and wrong, did not comply with the law. These protests are about situations where people complied, people knew the law, but are still dead. Ignore that basic fact and you're missing the entire point. Please show me which of these so called black Americans knew the laws and "complied". Also it's just not black people being shot by cops but unarmed white people too but the media and these protests would lead you believe that's a false assumption A lot of you are living in a false reality built on lies Well sure, and 71% of the cops killed in this country are killed by white people. And cop-killings have actually decreased in recent years. It's a cherry-pickers paradise. If you have yet to see evidence of "so-called black Americans" being treated differently by law enforcement, there is simply nothing anyone can do to convince you. I don't know about a false reality built on lies, but there is a mythology many white Americans clings to in order to feel better about themselves. They are often people who say all the right things in public, but deep down feel superior to African-Americans and want the system to maintain that comfort level. And not just with blacks, but with anything the system did to provide the white privilege they grew up with in the good ol' days. There is no other explanation for Donald Trump. Whatever makes you sleep better at night dude about that so-called mythology garbage. I've seen maybe 2-3 videos where the cop was in the wrong and were charged rightfully so (Tulsa shooting, Georgia shooting where officer planted taser at victims body) which I stand behind by the state to charge those officers. We don't need those types of cops on the streets. If you have yet to see evidence where the victim was in the wrong in majority of these shootings than I guess there's nothing I can do or anyone else could do to convince you other wise. Maybe you should apply at your local PD and see what the real world really is. I was in the field for 7 years and got out of it because people lack respect this day and age and who believe that they didn't do anything wrong. Can I be honest? I'm not sleeping very well these days.

  15. You are right...its disgusting to see after all the brave Americans from all races have died for this country. Nobody is saying they dont have the right to do their petty little kneel, but we all have the right to call them disrespectful and a bunch of pansies. I hope at the remaining Husker home games that they bring out all the brave police officers who risk their own lives every single day and pay tribute for their services. Where would you guys like black people to protest? No matter what they do in this generation people are mad There are many other forums and venues to protest, or to try to help their own personal causes if they feel their are injustices. For instancd, over the past 7 years, black income inequality has gotten worse. Someone like Colin Kaepernick should give way more than what he has to stand up for helping his community. Like giving 100% of his jersey sales -- currently the top selling NFL jersey -- to community charities? Something that wouldn't have happened before he took a knee?

  17. Yes? I think the definition of "butthurt" in this argument needs a little work.
  18. Too high too early in my book. We have all the time in the world to climb, but at the moment we feel like a #22 team. But I do hope some folks recognize that the national media tends to have a pro-Nebraska rather than anti-Nebraska bias. It feels right to have the Huskers back in the mix.
  19. And can we stop pretending that police and patriots and the military somehow have a monopoly on the American flag and all it stands for? That's actually dangerous, especially in this election season. Because there are people who use that backlash to inhibit freedom rather than protect it. If the American flag actually stands for freedom and justice for all, then the protest is about as patriotic as you can get. If it's just a symbol that demands allegiance, we're in trouble. Again, I recently spent time with my old crew from Lincoln. White middle class guys all, successful doctors, salesmen, real estate developers, a decorated Marine and more than a few Trump supporters. We got reminiscing about all the fun times we used to have. And while we remembered our most epic adventures as hijinks, they frequently involved trespassing, vandalism, pointless theft, reckless speeding, drugs and alcohol and slurred confrontations with policemen. We have lived long enough to look back and laugh. Had we been black, we would have been dead or in jail years ago. That's a profound difference in how you view the bounty and opportunity of this county. And it should make people uncomfortable. It's a conversation we need to have. Let's not pretend there's a better time or place to have it when we secretly don't want to have it at all.
  20. The fans can pretend, as long as the team stays One Game at a Time.
  21. It's a little thing but when Tommy sells a pump fake, it really freezes defenders.
  22. Which uhm.....does bring up a question. Of all the players in the Nebraska pantheon to celebrate as your avatar. Mickey Joseph? Is there a personal connection you'd like to share with the class?
  23. Northwestern is not going to blow us out. Other than that, any outcome seems plausible.
